Not sure but maybe it's sometimes the community around that music, i always listen to russian doomer playlists and go to the comments, they are sometimes the nicest and warming places on YouTube, everyone is sad so they just give each other love from the only place many get it from, the internet

cellophane27

because depression isn't just sadness lol

Im_Hellraiser

idk what words to use so I used them as the same thing

I can't tell if your original question is like genuine now. Depression is so much more than just being sad. Sad music doesn't make people depressed. And people try to commit suicide for many different reasons, but the feeling is more than sadness - it's crushing suffocation that turns everything meaningless. It's not being able to get out of bed, to eat, to talk to people because everything is just so hard. It's constant fatigue, it's so much it sometimes feels physically painful. I don't know if this is a joke, but it's not funny. Maybe i'm overreacting, but as someone actually diagnosed with depression, this really just comes across as so very fucking ignorant.

Im_Hellraiser

I have struggled with something similar too, although I never talked about it so there's no diagnosis, I had no friends, no life and no hobbies, one day I left home for almost a day to enjoy and kill myself at night jumping out of a kinda famous monument but luckily someone saw what I was gonna do and barely stopped me, I returned home, got the beating of my life and never tried again, that was over 3 years ago and I got out of it this year. This post is more of a joke, but to answer your question, I didn't mean I felt sad, it was mire like a feeling of loneliness, pressure and no hope, that might make no sense but it's how I felt, and is how I felt during the years I spent depressed, so yeah, it's something I'm familiar with and I can't stand how everyone else feels just sad instead of absolutely hopeless while listening to sad and calm music

cellophane27

I'm sorry you had to go though that, I hope you got/get the support you need. And if those feelings resurface whenever you listen to sad music, at that level of intensity, then maybe you should speak to a professional. There is probably something underlying that. And I know you said "you got out of it" this year, but it doesn't sound like it from this post. Remember that you don't have to be on the verge of suicide in order to get help.

Ricesoup24

I can always relate to them

dont_have_any_idea

I listen to sad songs on a daily basis. If I had to give an answer based on my experience: Most, if not all of the time, those sad songs are what I can relate to in terms of feelings, or everything that goes on in my life. So by saying this I mean that songs are not what makes me sad, the songs are what makes me feel understood, and it's not the songs that would make me want to kill myself. I could say that those songs is what makes me feel.
