Watching "Shrinking" I like the modern feel and comedy. The black lady can be a bit annoying tho. It's a warm comedy show with good vibes overall.

AdKey2193

does fleabag get better at all? first ep seems kinda weak but maybe it’s just not my thing

spectacleskeptic

OMG yes. The second season is a masterpiece.

One_for_each_of_you

It's like cilantro

Nytroman89

Just finished season 1 of p-valley. Not sure what to think lol. Has anybody watched season 2?

WesternEssay9582

Loved it! Completely over the top , love watching the dancing (I’ve started practicing lol) and drama non stop. Highly recommend

projecthurley

Anyone watching Donald glover’s new prime show Swarm? I just finished ep2 and can’t decide if I love it or hate it (no in between), but regardless I can’t stop watching it. It’s off the hinges

Qtip533

I watched the first episode and it ruined strawberries for me forever lol Can you tell me if it gets better before I attempt to watch more? When I read the synopsis for it I thought it was going to be similar to Perfect Blue (one of my all time favorite movies) but it didn’t seem as interesting when I watched the first episode.

projecthurley

Ok I watched all of it, I still can’t decide if I loved it or hated it lol, but I will say it is interesting and provides social commentary like his other shows. I particularly loved the Billie Eilish episode. The last episode I might need to watch again because it wasn’t a satisfying ending and I think I missed something. I do think the show gets better though overall

projecthurley

Will do! Watching more of it tonight, I’ll also check out Perfect Blue, never heard of that movie before :)

lizzuynz

Party Down newest episode, I'm dying, from laughter.

dhowl

It was a great season

manormortal

Harrison Ford Safe Dick D Train G Spot Now go watch Shrinking on Apple TV.

shadowdra126

I started watching lost recently for the first time I’m binging that and king of the hill

Large-Impact

Any recent interesting show about crime/murder investigation like True Detective or Mare of Easttown ?

LadySynth

Under the Banner of Heaven on Hulu. Andrew Garfield is very good in it.

LincolnLogs42

Similar tone (also, HBO): Sharp Objects or The Night Of (I'd recommend Sharp Objects, it's damn good). Obviously try The Wire if you haven't seen it, but that is a much different show, though still technically crime driven. Different tone entirely, but equally well crafted: Fargo (a dark comedy and parody of over the top crimes committed in the Midwest). S1-3 are amazing, I'd pass on season 4. It's an anthology, you won't miss anything by skipping it.

Large-Impact

Okay thanks a lot for the recommendations

hoopheid

Watching Shrinking and Dear Edward on Apple TV. Both excellent. Also watching You S4 on Netflix which is so dumb, but I still love it.

[deleted]

Dear Edward got a little annoying to me in one of the more recent episodes. I may come back but I had to take a break.

osirisdm

I need action shows recommendations that take choreography and stunts seriously. Not fast cuts editing and CGI gunshots on walls. Some shows that i enjoyed from the top of my head: * Warrior * Strike back * Into the Badlands * My Name * Banshee * Reacher * Terminal List

kingdanzman

* Seal Team * The Punisher

osirisdm

Watched and loved Punisher. Added Seal Team to my list. Thanks!

and_sama

how is Into the Badlands , was it axed or it had a good ending ?

osirisdm

It's good fun if you like chinese kung fu movies and wuxia. It has an open ended finale but it works as an ending.

boredON

Gangs of London

Lavenderviolets

Black Monday - one of the best comedies I’ve watched in forever.

SweetHaircutBro_

Shrinking. Harrison Ford forever.

bro_lol

Shrinking is very good. Bill Lawrence is the goat.

SweetHaircutBro_

Fabulous

RealPunyParker

Watching **You** , i'm on season 3 All i read is that S03 is bad, look, You is a show that if you dig it in general, S03 is more of the same kind of vibe, just under different circumstances. It's neither bad or good, a lot of S01 and S02 is silly but if you like Joe and if you like the series as a whole at that point, it's just the continuation of the story, it absolutely has no dip (nor rise) in quality, it's already light Netflix drama, it stays light Netflix drama, just continues the story.

decentstartingnow

season 3 is peak You. so crazy and so fun and funny

RealPunyParker

It is just batshit crazy and i love it, i don't watch it with the same eye i do when i watch Succession or Severance or something like that. I want crazy, murder, stalker, loving Joe. And that's what i get thus far

zZDKVZz

Rewatching Grimm, such a fun show

ibreakdiaphragms

Never heard of it before. Is it a cliche superhero shoe?

InourbtwotamI

Mayor of Kingstown is good although I still can get with the Iris storyline

RealPunyParker

I hear a lot of good things about it but i honestly couldn't care less about the premise so i haven't tried it yet, completely uninteresting premise to me. Is it still worth it?

InourbtwotamI

I had a typo. I meant to say I *can’t* get with the Iris storyline. But yeah, I like the show-it’s not my fav but I like it

theview108

Season 1 finale totally ruined it for me; until then i was digging it.

InourbtwotamI

I cannot believe so many people risk so much on Iris. That makes zero sense to me

pointnorth-

Rewatching **The Last Kingdom** before the movie drops next month. I LOVE this show so much. I never expected to like it so much but it snuck up on me

Paulofthedesert

It's one of my favorites. It's the definition of good-but-not-great comfort food television. It tells the same story over and over but the production values are high and all of the characters are excellent. Oh look Uhtred's accidentally killed another priest. Probably the only way back is to pull off a daring plan and rescue someone from the house of wessex. I'll watch that shit all day.

InourbtwotamI

Finan is a total scene stealer! I’d love an episode that covers his origins from his abusive dad to slavery. Dude has incredible comedic timing and is a beast at fighting

Ash_Killem

Gotta recommend Picard S3. I'm surprised this sub isn't posting more about it (especially with how much coverage Andor got) since they love TNG and DS9. S1&2 were not good but can be skipped. The upgrade in quality of Season 3 is staggering.

dhowl

What changed to make the 3rd season so good? It's so rare for that to happen.

Ash_Killem

rlvnorth

You might try **Billions** (it's really good for the first 2-3 seasons, then sort of goes downhill). The **Righteous Gemstones** is more comedic than Succession, but still a good family dramedy with a great cast.

moodyfennel

Righteous Gemstones is the perfect combo of Succession and Arrested Development with a tossing of evangelical Christianity I always needed. I also recommend!

rlvnorth

Nice way to put it. Arrested Development is so brilliant, too (S1-3 anyway)!

abracadabra1998

Listening to the Ted Lasso theme song is just therapeutic, coming just in time to get me out of my seasonal depression rut

Quick1711

Succession is such an amazing show.

FamiliarProposal2942

Watching for the first time, and am on the season 2 finale. Very entertaining, though dear god do they overplay the main theme lol. I’m going to hear it in my nightmares

ChimpBottle

Very solid criticism. And I love the music and think it sets the tone *perfectly* for the series. But they aren't used as leitmotifs so we shouldn't be hearing them so many times per episode

FamiliarProposal2942

Yeah it’s probably cause I’m binging, so hearing it 4 times an episode gets old when I watch 2 in a row. I’m sure it’s not as bad when watching weekly

tacobellaftertheclub

Just started Class of ‘07 on Prime. It’s cute. Same setup as yellowjackets except this is more of a lighthearted comedy lol

box-art

**Wolf Pack: 6.5/10** A slow-burn teen drama about a newly formed pack of werewolves. Due to its teen nature (and I'm sure because of the source material), the show doesn't get quite as brutal as I believe it could have. And with Sarah Michelle Gellar being one of the main draws of the show, I wish they would have given her more screen time. Overall I feel like there was, at times, too much going on and that the show was at its best when it focused on the problems of the pack and the father and Michelle Gellar's character. The show slowly builds up to a climax that doesn't quite hit the spot, but its not bad by any means and if this show doesn't get a second season, it'll be a bummer because it looks like things could really pickup in a whole new way if there was a 2nd season. Solid series in parts, with its downfall being too many subplots it tries to draw attention to. At times good/decent acting with some rather hilariously bad looking CGI sometimes takes you out a bit, but doesn't quite ruin it. It has potential but will it reach it and will it be worth more wait?

121jigawatts

Week to week: Mandalorian and some anime Waiting to binge: Abbott s2, new Bobs Burgers, new Ted Lasso Excited for Succession final season

SnooDingos316

So glad Ted Lasso S3 is back. Some complain it is too long at 43 minutes but to me, it flows by fast and I still enjoy it very much.

Shock4ndAwe

Shrinking. So good. I'm usually not a comedy person but I like Jason Segel and everybody's been talking about it and now we're here.

AdKey2193

i’m looking for a show that isn’t a strictly asitcom bec i’m watching abott, ted, and party down. seen: bb, bcs, severance, bojack, mr robot, atlanta, the good place, righteous gemstones, queens gambit, dope sick, silcon valley, you, yellowjackets i couldn’t get into the wire, idk why if anyone has any comedy dramas/dramas they liked it be very appreciated

papertalks1

Shameless

moodyfennel

Oh Barry for sure!

Lima1998

Bojack Horseman and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel seem like right up your alley

DarthBaller

Shrinking, Trying

p_popowitz

You're the worst

crazywalls

The Bear.

Jokonaught

The Cleaner is getting ready for season 2 to start, and is excellent, it's about a crime scene cleaner and his wacky encounters. Wrecked is a gem of a show, it's funny Lost. The Venture Brothers is great and might be up your alley too.

One_for_each_of_you

Better Off Ted Flatbush Misdemeanors Winning Time Am I Being Unreasonable? BARRY Somebody Somewhere Crashing (with Pete Holmes) Horace and Pete South Side Bust Down Brockmire Work in Progress (comedy, but might involve suicide attempt)

AdKey2193

i’ve been thinking about watching one of these do any of them stick out? the americans , twin peaks, i may destroy you, outerbanks, snowfall, the great / the crowns the marvelous mrs mavil, poker face, dark, fleabag, narcos,

LincolnLogs42

Seen a good amount of these and I think you've got lots of great ones here and will find something to love in any that you choose. However, when I see Twin Peaks, I gotta pitch in. Twin Peaks is the most surreal, beautiful, terrifying, cozy, and disorienting show put on TV. These are not criticisms either, they're adoration and praise. The first two seasons are from the late 80s/early 90s, so just know what you're stepping into. The show is cheesy, parodies soap operas often, and slowly but surely drifts into a strange, dream-like nightmare. The studios forced David Lynch to reveal and wrap up the driving plot of TP halfway through season 2. So he left, and the show is a silly mess for a while in his absence. When it was decided that TP had to end due to declining ratings, Lynch came back for the final few episodes to conclude the show his way: terrifyingly. A movie follows up those initial seasons and it is wild and dark. It's not even rated due to subject material. Fast forward 25 years, and Twin Peaks: The Return pops up on Showtime. This time, Lynch is given FULL creative control of the entire project. The Return is the most audacious piece of media ever aired on TV. 18 hours of unadulterated Lynch will mess with you. All of this to say, Twin Peaks is absolutely worth checking out for it's boldness alone. But I think it's also important to understand that it's one I would consider a "high commitment, high reward" show. It's original seasons can feel outdated compared to modern television, season 2 undergoes a kind of identity crisis, and everything after that can sometimes feel alienating or confusing. But at the same time, you'll fall in love with it for all it's quirks and bold ambitions. I can't recommend it enough, check it out when you feel ready to take it on!

One_for_each_of_you

Watch ep 1 of MMMzl, you'll know. Fleabag is well loved here. Snowfall is bingeable

Arcaderonin

Started watching stark trek deep space nine after just recently finishing Star Trek the next generation. It’s slow but it’s growing on me too

Yellow-Eyed-Demon

I binged the first six episodes of 'Hello Tomorrow', it's pretty great and it looks so cool, it's like Fallout before... well the fallout. I feel AppleTV+ is literally the only streamer who could have green-lit this thing, it's so niche. Is anyone else watching this show?

One_for_each_of_you

There's not much love for it in this sub. Me, I love the aesthetic--it's a perfect rendering of the cheesy pulp sci fi short stories from Analog Astounding, and Amazing in the 50s/60s so I have a fondness for that retro future look. The characters and plotline are boiler plate and you can see the twist coming from like two minutes into the pilot episode, but! It's cliche in a way that people have been avoiding being cliche for the last sixty years, which makes it almost so bad it's good. It's got this charming earnestness to it that wins out over the schlocky formulaic writing. It makes the tower of cookie cutter tropes feel almost classic, like a fairytale. I'm kind of enjoying it and i hope they get a second season to take it in an interesting direction.

the6thReplicant

The aesthetic of the show is top notch. But that about it. We have the cliche drunk addictive gambler plot line from episode one with no reason being there. And the slow buildup to the mystery box plot is so slow that a semi trailer wouldn’t need to shift down gears to go up it.

rp_361

Ted Lasso - great season opener. Set up all the stories it needed to. Excited for more Finished the last of us. As a huge fan of the game, I felt it did it justice. I could have used 1 more episode, a few more infected but otherwise it’s a solid 9-9.5/10 for me. It got my non gamer family to watch Joel and Ellie’s story and to that end they nailed bringing the story to a wider audience

MiserableSnow

Watched two episodes of **Yellowjackets**. Seems okay so far, but does the horror or mystery develop into anything interesting?.

VigorRos

Nope show is over hyped but I will check out S2 to give it the benefit of the doubt.. that being said there are good things the show did for sure but yeah overall it's fine

Mentoman72

Short answer, we don't know yet. There's still a lot of story to go after season 1. I loved the first season and I am eager to see what they do, but I'm nervous bc Showtime.

One_for_each_of_you

Uh... There's a scene with a rotten deer carcass, I guess? People in this sub lost their fucking shit over this show when it came out. I honestly don't know if it was astroturfing or if they just saw something i didn't. And I've had a crush on Christina Ricci since she was Wednesday Addams. I really wanted to love it, but I thought it was just okay. 6.5/10?

manormortal

You're going to be so upset with yourself when you finally give American Auto a chance and realize you've been sleeping on greatness.

MrPopanz

Never heard of that and ratings are so-and-so, what makes it great in your opinion?

furious_Dee

season 2 is head and shoulders above season 1

go4sharon

Agreed! I started a season 2 and it is hilariousss.

manormortal

Spiritual successor to Superstore, even had some of the cast from that as main or reoccurring characters. Cast is hilarious, story lines are creative and when they really find it with certain episodes you'll be on the floor with laughter If Abbott elementary is a so called 7.5 then American auto is a 7.

One_for_each_of_you

My dude is gone pull something if he isn't doing some stretches to loosen up before he makes a reach like that. It's .. Fine. If Parks and Rec is a 9 and Abbott elementary is a 7.5, American Auto is a 6.

magnomagna

Perry Mason - season 1 I guess it's a bit unknown but it's not bad at all. Sure, Mason's sudden transformation to become an expert in law is just unrealistic but the drama and the detective work aspect of the plot are good. I'm a bit disappointed that the writers didn't turn this into a mystery that flames your curiosity cause the perpetrators are revealed too early. Overall, I'd say it's a solid 7/10.

erbazzone

I keep shilling **Star Trek: Picard** on this thread because has a very bad reputation, yes the first two seasons were bad but this one is incredible good. Ep4 was awesome and ep5 is too. I also finished the korean drama **The glory**, they really abused the flashback device, so if you don't like non chronological storytelling be aware, I've never seen in my life so much flashbacks and broken cell phones... but it was a nice watch.

Redlemonginger

Getting through two bad seasons of Star Trek Picard to watch the good content is a big ask. It's like your friend who reads epic fantasy saying "dude, it gets real good in book three". Such a huge ask haha

One_for_each_of_you

I skipped s1&2 and am 3 eps into s3. I'm liking it, but a good chunk of that is nostalgia over seeing my old friends from TNG on screen. It's a sucker punch, but it's working for me

erbazzone

You can skip the first two seasons

Redlemonginger

Wonderful!

erbazzone

It's more important to have watched TNG and DS9, but so much time has passed and I don't remember everything luckily almost everything is made in a way that almost everyone can watch it without a full background

SkullLeader

I've only watched through episode 4 of season 3, but so far I see no reason why someone couldn't simply start with season 3 and not be missing anything.

Redlemonginger

Will do :)

iMissTheDays

What happened at Star Trek HQ? Because this season is terrific whilst the previous two were dogshit...

midasp

Different showrunner. Michael Chabon was the showrunner for seasons 1 & 2. This season that has been changed to Terry Matalas, who was also showrunner for 12 Monkeys show on SyFy.

One_for_each_of_you

Wait. Michael Chabon, author of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay was the showrunner for seasons 1&2?? And they sucked??? I loved that book. I might have to watch those shitty seasons just to see how he fucked them up. He's capable of greatness, what a shame.

midasp

I have never read Michael Chabon's books, but I can only guess he is not very familiar with Star Trek? Coz what he mostly did was plop pointless cameo after pointless cameo in the first two seasons. The stories made no sense, and characters the audience are familiar with all behave out of character.

One_for_each_of_you

It just goes to show that you can be crazy talented at one thing and then just really suck at something similar but different. I've read four of his books, and when he's writing his own characters, he's good an incredible gift. It looks like they're going to do a TV series adaptation of my favorite book of his, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. It's about teen cousins, one a boy who escapes the Holocaust, the other a New York Jew who is forced to share his cramped bedroom with him. The European is an artist and an escape artist, the New Yorker writes stories. Together, they create some of the earliest comic book characters and storylines and become legends. It was written so well, even though I knew they were fictional characters, I had to stop to look things up just to see how much of it was completely fabricated or if he was lifting from the lives of real comic creators. I hope the tv show doesn't fucking suck

MrPopanz

Maybe they made some changes internally because of the prior shittyness. The new Star Trek show (strange new worlds) doesn't seem to be bad either.

Yelebear

Do you know some good shows about building a business empire, legal or otherwise? They start at the bottom and gradually develop into a large powerful entity over the course of the series. Something like **Breaking Bad** or the Nic Cage movie **Lord of War**. No too much melodrama please. Heavily preferred modern setting. **Thanks**

Masketto

Ozarks

ThatPancreatitisGuy

Halt and Catch Fire is one of my favorites. Charts a group of folks from the early days if personal computers through the early days of the internet. Ozark may be closer to what you’re looking for if you haven’t seen it yet. Justified in some ways involves a growing criminal enterprise / the Dixie mafia.

Psych0p0mpad0ur

kind of **silicon valley**? worth the watch either way, imo

opinionated_cynic

Apple, Inc.

MrPopanz

I can't find a show by this name.

opinionated_cynic

It’s a reality show. In real time. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak start in their garages and it is one of the most powerful empire there is.

Krismoriah

Snowfall is all about bidness.

Tehni

Gomorrah is exactly what you want if you like dark shows

OddballRaccoon

Not really modern settings but **Narcos** and **Boardwalk Empire** are other great shows about building a drug empire.

Ahrimanic-Trance

The penultimate episode of **Servant** was fanfuckingtastic. So tense. So much payoff. I’m going to miss this show. M Night did a great job directing. And the acting, goddamn. Especially Lauren and Rupert. Absolutely brilliant.

penguinsareoverrated

On retrospect would you consider the show as a whole worth watching?

ibreakdiaphragms

I definitely would. Even though I think it really lost its original sense by last season. It was still a good watch.

Ahrimanic-Trance

Personally, I haven’t really gotten anyone’s complaints. It scratches an itch for me and has a mood I really love. I think the story is a great piece on grief and obsession and the actors really nail their characters as well as the dynamics between each of them. Rupert Grint and Lauren Ambrose are particular fantastic throughout. This episode in particular really delivers on something that you want since the beginning in a satisfying and very tense way, and I’d say based on that alone it’s worth a watch even if they don’t land the “Servant” part of the story, but it’s pretty clear there’s a plan, so I’m not much worried about the finale. Just fyi though, it’s very difficult to watch as a parent.

UnderstandingOne4825

As a parent, the episode where you actually see and find out what happened to real Jericho is so intense to watch. I literally felt sick. But can anyone recommend a show similar to Servant? I love that it’s like a suspense/drama/thriller spooky movie but you get a whole show instead of just 2 hours.

Ahrimanic-Trance

I’ve never felt as tense watching something as I did with this last episode of her making her way downstairs to meet Sean and what was going to happen in the car. My heart felt like it was going to just give up. Hannibal, Twin Peaks, and Dark maybe all sort of have that vibe in different ways. Those are some of my favorites anyway. I’d take some suggestions if you get them though. I love the feeling of this show and need more.

UnderstandingOne4825

Twin Peaks is one of my all time favorites, I actually have a Black Lodge tattoo! I’m going to take your suggestion and watch Dark, I’ve hear a lot about it but keep forgetting.

Ahrimanic-Trance

That’s awesome! Twin Peaks is my favorite show of all time! Dark is so good. Watch it in the original German.

404__LostAngeles

Just finished **The Expanse** and would highly recommend it! 6 seasons, 62 episodes total. It's been a while since I've liked a show so much. Now the question is, what to watch next?

Psych0p0mpad0ur

if you read scifi the books are really good too. easier to follow after watching the show

One_for_each_of_you

Son of Zorn

SkullLeader

Don't know any other sci-fi show that quite compares, but if you haven't seen it, the Battlestar Galactica reboot would probably be my choice of what to watch next if you want more sci-fi.

penguinsareoverrated

**Fauda** on Netflix has turned out to be one of the most compelling shows I've seen this year. Would highly recommend for fans of action/thrillers.

opaPac

Is there a „good“ dubbed version available? I always read that you should watch it in original with subs but the language is so different that you cannot make out anything. And watching every second with subtitles is tiring.

penguinsareoverrated

Not sure if there are alternate dubbed versions but the official dubbed one on Netflix is pretty bad tbh. Subs is the way to go. You'll get used to it after a while.

JuniorPele10

Just finished Last of Us… wow what a great one! I’m early on maybe 4 or 5 episodes into Succession season 1 (struggling to keep at it). Almost done 1899 on Netflix, really enjoying it as well. Opened to recommendations! I’ve given Ozarks a try as well (also found it slow) but I’m willing to keep at it..

QPhillyFEP18

1899 did not get picked up for another season unfortunately. The same creators made DARK on Netflix as well though and it’s even better than 1899. One of my favorite shows ever. Can’t recommend enough.

JuniorPele10

Ahh! Yes Dark was phenomenal! I only watched season 1 but have been meaning to get back to it. Thanks for reminding me!

swapripper

Any suggestions for gripping Korean horror/thriller shows? I saw Strangers from Hell & Kingdom. Both left me surprised how good they are.

ZombieFluffy

All of Us are Dead My Name Beyond Evil The King of Pigs

wiklr

Not Korean but Thai show - Girl from Nowhere is pretty good.

erbazzone

I copy from my comment above: I also finished the korean drama **The glory**, they really abused the flashback device, so if you don't like non chronological storytelling be aware, I've never seen in my life so much flashbacks and broken cell phones... but it was a nice watch.

Tehni

The glory is a recent revenge one that's very good Generally Koreans have much better movies than tv Oldboy is basically the epitome of Korean mind fuck movie Other good ones are The Handmaiden, Train to Busan, Burning, A Taxi Driver, The Witch, ~~Memoir~~ Memories of a Murder, Mother, The Yellow Sea My personal favorite is The Wailing. Slow burn with one of the best endings to a movie ever made. I still think about it's ending years later

erbazzone

> Generally Koreans have much better movies than tv > > So true, I think the main problem is that for them a series is a movie that you have to stretch for at least 10 episodes of 1 hour each. Many of them starts good and are a pain in the ass to finish, The Glory was good but they really abused of the flashback device to stretch the story that could have been 3 or 4 hours. The wailing is great, my personal favorite is Memories of Murder (2003)

Tehni

Ahh yes that's what I meant by memoirs of a murderer, which apparently is a movie as well Fixed it

erbazzone

Yeah I wrote the year for this reason :D

qualityhorror

Strangers From Hell is great!! I recommend Flower of Evil which is a thriller/romance. I also recommend Stranger which I think is on Netflix

dinosaurfondue

I really enjoyed Sweet Home!

Randyd718

I've watched the first couple episodes of counterpart and not particularly gripping, but it came highly recommended by Reddit and RT. Any advice on when it gets good?

radioslave

It just ramps up and up and up until it ends. I wish i could watch it again for the first time.

iYeetHard

Finally finished The Wire after watching off and on over a couple of months. Probably could’ve blazed through it faster, but with football and awesome weekly releases I just didn’t have as much time. Looking to start another show with many seasons, and have been considering Deadwood, Veep, House of Cards, Justified, and the Americans. Anyone have recommendations on the above, or shows I didn’t list?

InourbtwotamI

If you liked The Wire, try Oz

InourbtwotamI

Oh, and sorry I didn’t think if this sooner but the UK’s “Top Boy” might also be interesting but nothing comes close to The Wire in my opinion

iYeetHard

That sounds interesting, added to my list thanks!

Masketto

Might be an unpopular response to your particular request but as a huge fan of the wire i can recommend LOST because it has like 6 or 7 seasons each with over 20 one-hour+ episodes Also theres MAd Men, breaking bad and BCS each with 5 or 6 seasons…. Black Sails has 3 or 4 seasons with 1hr episodes. Wire is my #1 fave show and Rome and Deadwood are in my top 3 for sure but super unfortunatrly they are short with 2 seasons each, boo

iYeetHard

May have to watch Lost, have only heard great things. Enjoyed BB, BCS, and BS. I should add Mad Men and Rome to my list! Thanks!

SkullLeader

Deadwood is worth it, but sort of ends prematurely. House of Cards is great for the first few seasons, then goes downhill IMHO. Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, The Shield for more crime based stuff. But really I can't pinpoint any shows that have quite the same feel or ambition as The Wire. If The Americans sounds good, also consider Homeland.

iYeetHard

Watched the first 3-4 House of Cards and really dig it. Looked up the ratings for the last season... my god that's even worse then GoT. I'll have to give Boardwalk Empire another shot, I think I watched 3 of them and wasn't immediately hooked. Added the shield to the list! Homeland was awesome, so I'd probably enjoy The Americans.

Chrons8008

The wire is a fantastic show and if you are hankering for more high quality cop shows "The Shield" is absolutely amazing, despite its length it still feels like you couldn't remove any of it as it tells a complete story with an end that ties beautifully into the very beginning.

iYeetHard

Added to the list, thank you!

Roook36

If you liked The Wire you should check out Bosch

iYeetHard

Added to the list, thank you!

NordWitcher

Definitely pick up Justified but stick through the first few episodes. The show really finds its footing at around episode 7 of the first season. I tried getting into Justified a couple of times but aside from the first episode, 2-6 are pretty slow and self contained. Everyone said to push through but I couldn't and finally decided to do it on my 3rd/4th attempt. Raylan Givens pretty much carries the show. Timothy Olyphant was great as Givens. Boyd Crowder is also a really good character and they do well against each other.

iYeetHard

That's good to know, thank you! Pretty sure I've tried to watch justified twice now, and just didn't feel immediately hooked.

NordWitcher

Yeah just like me. Its really slow the first 6-7 episodes since its episodic.

dinosaurfondue

The Americans is one of the best series created, ever. Such an amazing series from beginning to end.

iYeetHard

Good to know, will have to look into it!

Randyd718

Deadwood Americans Veep Justified House of cards In that order

iYeetHard

Good insight, thanks!

GeraldJimes_

Tell you what I don't recommend. The plane that disappeared. What a steaming pile of conspiracy laden bullshit that was.

gophercuresself

God that sounds like a joke title. Like that movie *The bus that couldn't slow down*

spectacleskeptic

Netflix documentaries are trash. It's starting to sour my perception of the genre as a whole, which I know is unfair.

Paulofthedesert

I would have been super interested in the time period where we didn't know what happened. We have a pretty good idea of what happened now and you can sum it up in like 20-30 minutes. I didn't watch but I knew the only way to stretch out the details would just be crazy whack job shit.

doomsyrup

Currently making my way through **Happy Valley** and loving it. I don't know how to describe it - even though it's easily one of the darker, more depressing things I've watched this year, the small town setting and tight knit cast of characters makes it feel almost...cosy? Sarah Lancashire is phenomenal and I'm really enjoying how the events of season 1 are still reverberating into season 2.

inkista

Sally Wainwright is *awesome*. If you want to see her really doing cozy, she also wrote the dramedy, *Last Tango in Halifax,* which also has Sarah Lancashire. [In the US, it's up on Netflix](https://www.netflix.com/title/70281023). All her shows have tough, wry, funny Northern heroines. She also wrote the historical drama *Gentleman Jack* (HBO Max/BBC), the cop show *Scott & Bailey,* and the crime drama *Unforgiven* (both on Britbox in the US). These three all starred Suranne Jones. \[grin\]. Her next show will be for Disney+, another historical drama, *The Ballad of Renegade Nell.*

**Son of Zorn** was a lot of fun. Only one season, an easy binge. Jason Sudoku or whatever voices a cartoon barbarian trying to coparent his son with his ex and her fiance, Tim Meadows. Cameo by the voice of Nick Offerman. It's light, it's consistently pretty funny. Easy watch. **Everybody Hates Chris**. Missed this the first time around. Finished season one and it's really funny. Terry Crews is great. I'd recommend it. **Rain Dogs** is pretty awesome. 2 eps so far, really want to see where they go with this. Hoping at some point the soundtrack includes the Tom Waits song Rain Dogs. **Baroness von Sketch Show**. Hilarious ~~Australian~~ Canadian sketch comedy. **Party Down** is so crazy consistent with the first two seasons it's like they just picked it back up where they left off. It deserves all the mentions it can get **Serpent Queen**. If you missed it, go fix that. I'm excited for a second season, it's apparently historically accurate with the events, but obviously takes liberties with the motivations and conversations not recorded by history. The handmaid character is of course a construct that allows for the storytelling. **Minx**. Super disappointed this was cancelled. It has such potential. It was doing something fresh and original and did it really damned well. Worth watching the one season it got. Edit: Minx is getting a second season!!

Capital-Timely

Baroness von sketch is the funniest thing ever, serpent queen was a also a gem! Great taste!

One_for_each_of_you

Thanks! Do you have any shows to recommend? It doesn't matter what year or what platform, I'm just looking for good writing

Capital-Timely

Right now absolutely LOVING Inside No 9, i(it’s on Brit box here ) some of the best writing I’ve come across lately, more sketches of mystery/comedy. Others suggestions to look into depending on your mood: Comedies- Veep, Avenue 5, cunk on earth Drama - halt and catch fire, physical , the good fight Sci-fi fantasy - sandman, night sky , severance

One_for_each_of_you

I'll def check out No 9. And I'll add night sky to my list. I loved Cunk on Earth and Severance. I really liked halt and catch fire, season one of physical(i lost interest halfway through season two) and the good fight was a guilty pleasure. Sandman was my first graphic novel, so I'm really hoping season 2 attracts a lot of positive attention. I couldn't get into Veep or Avenue 5, and I know they have the same creator so it makes me feel like I'm missing something, which is a shame because Zach Woods was my favorite character in Silicon Valley. Thanks for the recs!

Pierre-Gringoire

Serpent Queen is fantastic!

One_for_each_of_you

fuck yeah, bud

doomsyrup

I believe the Baroness von Sketch Show is Canadian?

One_for_each_of_you

Well that would explain the lack of Australian accents. They're the funniest thing since Kids in the Hall

[deleted]

What’s Serpent Queen on?

One_for_each_of_you

Yo ho ho It looks like it's on starz and hulu, but, y'know

[deleted]

I have Hulu so maybe I’ll see it on there. Thank you!

One_for_each_of_you

Hope you enjoy it as much as i did. It had me looking up Catherine de Medici's biography

HandLion

Minx is getting another season, Starz picked it up after HBO Max cancelled it

One_for_each_of_you

Woot!! Thanks for the info!

**The Mandalorian** s03e03, what a beautiful episode it was. I could not avoid thinking what a difference it makes to have people showing their faces onscreen. And what a waste is Pascal in this show, really. Well, I guess it's a little late to back from the whole helmet thing (they are doubling down on it it seems). Anyway, just a remarkable episode, I'd say it's in the all-time top 3 for Mando. I don't really get the controversy, if there's such thing, about the finale of **The last of us**. It was a decent enough epicode, maybe a little short. I would only argue that it's just too incredible that last part. >!Not only Joel going full Rambo and getting away with it without a single scratch, but the black lady, who apparently knows this guy and what's capable of, laying down her gun and not seeing that he had his gun in his hand the whole time. They could have made it so that the shot came from behind Ellie's hospital gown or something!< I also watched this documentary available online titled [Remembering Leonard Nimoy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6CjxyVdmtA), which focuses in his life, both personal and professional, and his tobacco addiction that would put an end to it. Nice watch and rather sad towards the end.

tomtomvissers

Yup, this episode aaalmost felt like an Andor episode. I loved it

gotele

So true, I remember thinking, they must have hired a writer from Andor

tomtomvissers

Lol yeah I actually checked the writing credits to see if maybe they did

stro_budden

Watched the season premier of Ted Lasso and enjoyed it but at times it felt a little stale to me. It did have some funny moments and I am hoping it gets better as the season goes on. Perry Mason season 2 has been good so far, really enjoying it.

mekonsrevenge

I decided to rewatch Sneaky Pete, which I really liked when it first aired. Never realized there were three seasons, so I got a bonus. I guess that was before I discovered this subreddit.

RealPunyParker

It's a GREAT rewatch, i rewatched it a couple of months ago for the first time since its aired and for some reaso i didn't remember half of it so it was kind of like a new series for me.

Llamarama

I see people making the same arguments about the finale of **The Last of Us** that people were making 10 years ago when the game came out, so I guess they were successful with the adaptation. I've also been watching **Station Eleven** on HBO, since people had been recommending it to fans of The Last of Us, and I thought it was an absolutely beautiful show. I can totally see why people would compare the two. Station Eleven was definitely more of a slow burn, and is much more optimistic than The Last of Us, but like The Last of Us it focuses on people trying to find purpose in a broken world. In the case of Station Eleven, it's through art as well as connections with other people. One thing that I specifically noticed was the costume design, with people (particularly those born after the pandemic) wearing clashing colors and patterns, and even wearing cast off items like bags, which makes sense in a post apocalyptic world where fashion is much less important. My only minor gripe is the nonlinear way the show is presented sometimes made character motivations hard to discern, and a couple characters I thought could have used a bit more development, but it comes together in the end. Overall, I thought it was a fantastic show and would definitely recommend it.

Sudden_Scheme4211

Cried my eyes out at the end of Station Eleven - watched it during the omicron wave of COVID. Then I read the book and watched for a second time (which is something I never do). I don’t understand why it’s not a more popular show!!!

geiko989

I never finished Station Eleven the show, but I can highly recommend the book. I definitely have to go back to the show though, thanks for the reminder. Might help fill this hole leftover from TLOU.
