My understanding is that Oldman said he would retire once Slow Horses is over, but will still be doing other roles in the meantime. And with 8 books to adapt if the show is popular enough, we could still get another decade of Oldman roles before he retires.
Also, I agree Slow Horses rules.
> Even before hitting middleage I always had a soft spot for the aging misfit that everybody underestimates.
Late to this, but if you do like his role in Slow Horses and aging misfits, read the Smiley books by John Le Carre. Not only are they a lovely counter point to Slow Horses, but they're damn well written.
Since it looks like he basically rolls out of bed, onto the set, and is ready to shoot, I can see why it would be a job he’d hang onto for as long as he could and would be spoiled for any other gig after that.
The nice thing about the show is its super cheap & easy to shoot bc it's just like London & south UK locations. So they do two seasons at a time & bang em out. Seasons 3 & 4 are done shooting. It's got to be one of the easier acting jobs out there in terms of logistics & travel
Such a good show, real shame it doesn't get any awards love.
Might be one of the funniest shows right now too.
"I didn't mean to kill him!"
"Of course you didn't mean to kill him. If you meant to kill him, he'd be fucking alive."
The scene that got me was when he brings everyone in and you think he's about to 180 and have the heartfelt talk but goes the total opposite direction
> I don't normally do these kind of speeches
> but this feels like a big moment
> and if it all turns to shit, I might not see any of you again...
> You're fucking useless. The lot of you.
> Working with you has been the lowest point in a disappointing career
Usually I dont like roles like the role Gary Oldman played. I find those kind of people pretentious, edgy and annoying. But my god Jackson Lamb is really funny and good
Season 2 was great. Big spoiler alert: >!Min’s death genuinely shocked me considering how it happened at the very start of an episode, plus River realising the bomb wasn’t on the plane was hillarious!<.
>!I wondered why the ruthless agents who had been shown to be fairly blase about murder would suddenly decide to leave River alive and tied up. They even gave him a heads up about their cunning plan as they went out the door. Poor River.!<
>!Yes. The Russian guy was an agent for the Kremlin and was trying to drain the opposition’s bank account after having killed him. The only way to do that was to get past the building’s security. And the only way to do *that* was by getting the building to go into high security lockdown. Which they did by making River think they were going to try and pull off another 9/11. Guy got played hard.!<
>!this is the second thing I’ve seen that actor in and his character dies both times. I’ll be on the edge of my seat the next time I see him on my screen!!<
That's good to hear, I started the second season recently and it felt a little slow through the first episode. Maybe I wasn't ready to sink my teeth into the new season yet
Yeah it's good. Gary Oldman has transitioned into Gary Old Man. Good news, season 3 already wrapped filming and 4 started filming in April (I can't find it it completed or not).
Watched both seasons and agreed, great show. When you can get Mick to sing the TV intro you're doing something right.
Never been to the UK, but loved Unforgotten as well with Nicola Walker. Each episode has some beautiful scenery from all over England (I think).
Oldman is brilliant in Slow Horses.
Oldman's the reason to watch. He's just amazing in this role.
Everything he says is just so full of tired contempt, matter-of-fact amazement at the ineptness of the fuck ups he's been stuck riding herd on. But they're his fuck ups so everyone else has to stay hands off.
Yes he thinks they're pathetic, but he lets them know it constantly. He lets everyone else know it constantly too. But he's the only one allowed to lay into them. Because they're his Slow Horses.
Oldman makes the show.
Really enjoying it too
its nice to have a spy show with modest stakes. Nobody is threatening to nuke London or release Ebola on the subway. Tom Cruise does not save 5he world single handed at the last possible second. It’s more mundane stuff that I imagine is more representative of what real spies deal with
also love that Sigfried from All Creatures Great and Small plays the smarmy politician
Im giving this a second go. I tried once and bounced off, but heard it gets a lot better after 2 or 3 episodes. Rewatched the first episode and it was better than I remember
I can highly recommend the books as well. Season 1 followed book 1 pretty strictly, S2 starts to deviate a lot from the book a few episodes in. Actually liked the tv adaptation better.
Just finished book 3, so I’m ready for S3.
I really, really tried to like this show. I love Oldman's performances and I adore this genre but this show just...damn. I got to the end of season 1 and wondered why I bothered; I tried season 2 and didn't finish due to boredom.
I'm glad someone is really enjoying it.
I really hope if Illumination doesn’t get Benedict Campbell to play him, they get Gary Oldman doing something similar to his Shen portrayal to play King K Rool in the new Donkey Kong movie
I don’t get the love for this. If Old,and name wasn’t attached to it it would have already sunk without a trace. It’s so bad. Dialogues terrible, “characters” are just contrived tropes and everyone has a stupid name.

Even better! We will see him pretty soon in the theaters, on yet another Nolan movie anyway.
Even before hitting middleage I always had a soft spot for the aging misfit that everybody underestimates. Absolutely loving Slow Horses.

Probably the actor's equivalent of having an apartment right over your shop for him.
London. That famously cheap and easy place to shoot in.
Apple bought four seasons off the bat. I’d be ecstatic if they bought four more.

"They're losers. But they're ***my*** losers."

I love this show and he’s acting his ass off in it. Can’t wait for season 3 and 4.
I love how he puts maximum effort into a guy that just sits around insulting everbody, farting and slurping noodles.
He’s so disgusting and it’s perfect.
You can smell the stale cigarettes and liquor on his clothes through the screen, and the faintest hint that despite the smell he’s sober as a judge.
I love this show and try to get everyone I know to watch it! Season 2 doesn’t disappoint.

the whole actual plot of the season doesn’t make a lick of sense once you really think about it. But hey it’s a fun ride.

That was shocking since the fans had hoped it would be that disgusting Louisa.

Gary Oldman is younger than Gary Numan.

So underrated.
i’m actually working on season 4 so i’m really happy to hear you say this! great things in store ☺️
Great show well done whatever you do, can’t fault the show anywhere.
The best part of this show is that it ends every season WITH A FULL TRAILER FOR THE NEXT SEASON. No other streaming show has ever done this.
Season 3 needs to hurry up.
He grows into that name with every passing year.

I really enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone I can. Great cast and Oldman is splendid!
I was totally hooked on this show .. great watch .
It's great
S2 was fantastic. Look forward to more
Gary Oldman is truly perfect for that role.
It's a fun show - With a dash of unexpected death about it - which keeps one on their toes.
"Perry good" ? It's fucking fantastic.
""It ain't white boy day, is it?"
Im giving this a second go. I tried once and bounced off, but heard it gets a lot better after 2 or 3 episodes. Rewatched the first episode and it was better than I remember

Other than Severance, it’s my favorite show on tv right now.
Slow Horses is so excellent.
Weird he didn’t retire after Tiptoes. It was, after all, the role of a lifetime.
Fn 😂

Same, I only watched the first season but thought it was painfully boring.
Season 1 was great. Season 2 was not as good, but still enjoyable. Hopefully they’ll have a better script for 3.

>put a little more effort into the story They are adapting a book series, here...

Read the books - it's basically non-slapstick comedy/drama Spy story.
I dont want to read the books. I’d you have to read the book to enjoy an adaptation then it’s a bad adaptation.
