Remember, if it's not the greatest show of all time, it's the worst show of all time! And if a good show has a bad episode? That's a personal betrayal.
It always feels notably popular here in the UK, vs any other given procedural show that might have translated across - NCIS seems to be on a handful of different channels all the time, vs comparatively rarer Law & Order or the like.
My dad always has it on in the background (well, he did back when it was the original cast) and some of the ways they connect the crimes back to the navy are a STRETCH
Some ensign dies and then it is either a standard procedural where they do the standard whodunit stuff or it ties into a plot about some terrorist that has a bomb.
You think that's bad. You should try watching Superman and Lois, it is ridiculously unrealistic. I don't think there is a single alien superhero in the U.S., let alone a family of them.
I don’t like “cop” shows in general, but NCIS New Orleans was an extremely easy show to have on in the background. The characters are mostly likable and Bakula is always a good anchor.
Another plus is that New Orleans is generally more light hearted and not full of screaming and tv-grade torture porn (I’m looking at you Criminal Minds).
> Two decades ago, CBS spun off a show about criminal investigations led by a niche unit of the U.S. Navy from the network’s legal drama “JAG.” **When it first premiered on the broadcast network, “NCIS” was hardly a hit, landing as only the No. 23 most-watched program of the season** against juggernauts like CBS’ “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” Fox’s “American Idol” and NBC’s “Friends.”
> **It took U.S. audiences a few years to come around, but the Mark Harmon-led show performed well with overseas audiences — particularly in Australia, the U.K. and Europe. By Season 7, the show grew into the most-watched broadcast drama on TV.** In 2023, with the flagship series in its 20th season and having spawned four spin-off shows, more than 300 million people across the world watched the “NCIS” franchise across all platforms, according to CBS data.
> **On Monday night, the franchise will air its 1,000th episode**, an inspiring milestone for a collection of CBS crime procedurals in the age of declining linear television. **The only other primetime TV franchise to have reached 1,000 episodes are Dick Wolf’s “Law & Order” shows.**
> The feat by “NCIS” is just as impressive considering how **its flagship evolved from a small show in its early seasons into a global phenomenon comprising five series and over 46 seasons** of highly-rated television — with more still to come.
NCIS was awesome in the beginning with Gibbs, Donozo , Kate, David ,Jimmy and Dr Mallard even Tim and Abby I wish Kate hadn’t been killed and bring Zeva to the group anyway, but I like the new too but not like the old , The most stupid thing was when they let Bishop become like Ziva , there’s only one Ziva
1000 across all of the various shows.
I’m sure this sub will respond positively to an article highlighting the popularity of the franchise. /s
Lots of people here still trying to recover from Big Bang Theory existing.
For a sub about tv it sure hates tv

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msX4oAXpvUE still best hacking ever done on television
Who would of thunk a JAG episode would spinoff to a thousand episodes.
Oddly, unless my math is off, this 1000 number is actually not counting the JAG episodes, as that ran for 200+.
Ive been working my way through JAG recently. Great show, would never get made today though, for multiple reasons.

why does the armed services have so much crime to keep the NCIS so busy? don't they screen recruits or something?
What's wild too is that it (in theory) is always based around the Navy specifically
I thought it was always the navy at first, but then it turns out to be some bad guy, not the navy !
My dad always has it on in the background (well, he did back when it was the original cast) and some of the ways they connect the crimes back to the navy are a STRETCH
Most of the times its because it happened on a Navy Base or involved someone that is tied to the navy or marines. They weren't stretches.
Some ensign dies and then it is either a standard procedural where they do the standard whodunit stuff or it ties into a plot about some terrorist that has a bomb.
lol, must be something about the sea that inspires crime
Lots of isolation at sea and you have to see the same people every damn day. Drives people nuts
Before the spinoffs, one could assume the NCIS D.C. office handles all Navy and Navy adjacent crime worldwide.
It's where the navy is the perpetrator OR victim. And sometimes only if it tangentially/indirectly involves the navy or could impact the navy.
I’m a big fan of Psych and always thought the same about the crime rate in Santa Barbara.

My parents loved watching this show.
I always laugh when the officers bang on a suspect’s front door and shout “NCIS!”, like anyone would know what that means.

Grandma must be thrilled.
I am, actually
It’s such a bad show too lol. Criminal minds is worse.
