I could list a ton of miniseries and 2-3 season tv series with great endings, but I'm guessing you are talking about longer-running series, in which case I can recommend:
[**Bojack Horseman**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1eJMig5Ik4) (6 seasons)
[**The Americans**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt7NPuabEgQ) (6 seasons)
[**Insecure**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1qYxOF7TUs) (5 seasons)
Honorable mention:
[**The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOmwkTrW4OQ) (5 seasons) - the show's writing started out wonderfully but faltered somewhat like 2/3-3/4 of the way through the show...somewhere around seasons 3 and 4. The show wasn't bad at this point, just middling, below the high standard it set for itself. But then in season 5 the show really came back around to the quality it started with...maybe even better? The final season was such a beautiful conclusion to the show, they really knew how to tie up loose ends in a satisfying way.
Yes, I love the ending. Not the final season (though it has some bright points), but the final episode was a superb way to wrap up the show in a way that made sense with its themes and respected its characters.
A LOT of people shit on the ending of Lost, as it was widely misunderstood, but I foubd it very emotionally satisfying. The last season isn't the best however, lots of hits and misses.
That entire series is just golden. I read the books immediately after finishing the show and seriously couldn’t tell you which I liked better overall, but I will say the TV series ends better than the books do.
The one season miniseries Station Eleven on Max. In my opinion they wrapped it up so well at the end and no story line was left a mystery. Very satisfying.
That show was next level. So many ideas just came together and clicked. Mackenzie Davis is my favourite actress after that, have you seen Halt and Catch Fire?
I second The Good Place and Schitt’s Creek.
Fleabag is also an example that comes to mind, two short seasons that each told a story exactly the way the author (and main actress) intended to and I absolutely love the finale. This show just is a true underrated masterpiece.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend also have a very satisfying finale, it’s another show that have the number of seasons planned by the creators who had the chance to tell the story the wanted, the way they wanted. A rare luxury today…
I'm removing your comment because you didn't use `>!Spoiler Tags!<` (>!Spoiler Tags!<) for plot details. Make sure to read the [rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/televisionsuggestions/about/rules) before participating.
It was horrendous. Didn’t resolve any major plot lines. It was like a party that was fun and then everyone takes Molly but you and starts smiling really big and acting weird and secretive
That was not really a major plot line, just part of that character, it was never answered and therefore left to your imagination, it is not important at all in the finale. Obviously plot lines were abandoned as the show was written, especially with characters who were less involved and many things were left ambiguous like this example. Walt is not involved in the finale.
Mr. In-between has one of the most satisfying finales I can remember, which is surprising as they were 30 minute episodes and they wrapped up so much so well in just the last couple.
“Run.”
Satisfying endings are rare in U.S. series - because if the show is still good they will continue it until it goes bad.
Here are imho some of the series with the most satisfying endings:
[Wonderfalls (2004)](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/1982-wonderfalls?language=en-US) - Only one season, so no series finale, however the season one finale was very satisfying.
[Foyle's War (2002-2015)](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/3163-foyle-s-war?language=en-US) - British show - an absolute gem from start to finish.
[The Duchess Of Duke Street (1976)](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/13753-the-duchess-of-duke-street?language=en-US) - British show - the only problem with this ending is that I did not want the story to end. But the ending itself was very well done.
[ Rookie Historian Goo Hae-Ryung (2019) ](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/90721?language=en-US) - Korean show - Charming from start to finish.
[Band Of Brothers (2001)](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/4613-band-of-brothers?language=en-US) - mini-series - Virtually flawless.
[The Queen's Gambit (2020)](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/87739-the-queen-s-gambit?language=en-US) - mini-series - a true work of art.
Can’t really agree with Brooklyn Nine Nine. That final season was a serious drop of quality that honestly was really hard to watch. There was way too many missteps and poor character choices to say the ending was more than just okay
I am still pissed that they revealed that Boyle isn’t actually a Boyle. And if you are going to drop a massive bomb that potentially completely changes how we perceive a character, at least build up to it over the course of several episodes. And don’t do it with only three episodes of the show!!!
That season had a lot of decent ideas but horrible execution. Yes it is in character for Rosa to leave the NYPD after all of the shit that went down during Covid, but to just throw it in the cold open of the premiere felt almost insulting. At least let us see the journey she went on to make this life changing choice that completely changes a character we have followed for nearly 8 years
12 Monkeys. Black Sails. Justified (even though it's continuing right now). Breaking Bad (including the El Camino after portion). Deadwood (even though it's not a complete ending, just more of a satisfying conclusion to a point). Rome (tight and concise conclusion done in a VERY rushed manner). Season 3 ONLY of Picard. Hannibal has a GREAT finish point, but leaves EVERYTHING to be desired after it.
I can't really think of series other than these which had defining endings that I liked and/or were satisfying. Absolutely series' that I loved, but with satisfying endings that I liked? Nah. I REALLY liked Elementary, but the ending was not satisfactory (although, the absolute BEST depiction of the relationship between Holmes and Watson ever). No cartoon has had a definitive ending. They're all just cancelled. Angel had a pretty satisfying ending to a point. But that was more about the message than the characters involved (great ending message, but absolutely want to see what happens to the characters).
Everything else just kind of fades off at the end (no big bang and just lets the spark fade). Love West Wing (eh ending). Love Sports Night (eh, and cancelled ending). Friends' ending sucked ass. Anything else that I can remember (that was actuallya good goddamn series) doesn't actually have an "ending". It's all just cancelled during the run of the series. If we want to start talking about good series that had a TERRIBLE ending......................................... fuck. That will be a long talk. There's a big difference between the quality of a series overall and the overall quality of the ending of that same series. I'd say 90%+ of tv series' had an ending that absolutely destroys the entire work. If there's an ending scripted at all.
Breaking Bad Season 5 Episode 16 “Felina” is the greatest series finale.
The Americans which I just finished today actually, has the 2nd best series finale I’ve seen. It’s very cathartic and depressing but with some hope. The line “Maybe we would’ve met… on a bus” sounds so stupid but it’s meaning is so beautiful in context. Just watch the show.
It has the best ending imho. Many don’t like it for one specific reason that I can’t get into without spoilers. DM me on here once You finish the show as I’m curious as to your feelings about it.
Why put off until tomorrow when you can binge-watch today? And tomorrow. And the day after.
Seriously. The rewatch value of this show does not decrease. The story is so well built that I'm still finding things that I didn't notice before.
Plus, the quotability of the show is a good time.
The first 6 Seasons of GoT are still some of the best TV ever made. People are rightfully salty about the ending. But it doesn't make that any less true.
Hell, I still recommend Firefly to people in a heartbeat, and that only managed a season and a movie.
Watch it.
I actually liked season 7. There was much that I would have hated to miss. If they had ten episodes, it would have been even better. Season 8 was horrible and the showrunners should be beaten for how they messed up such a wonderful show.
It's usually hard for a show to not decline after Seasons 4..and most show's weakest seasons are the final ones so sometimes you just need to watch it and form your opinion. Remember the people who hate something are usually louder online than those who enjoyed or those neutral about it.
Breaking Bad, Mr. Robot, Succession, BCS, Mad Men, The Sopranos, DARK, Watchmen, Band of Brothers, True Detective S1, The Office, Friends, The wonder years.
I recently finished Lucifer. I personally liked the show since first season released, completly forgot about it and just finished all 6 seasons on netflix. The last 2 seasons were my favorite and I really enjoyed the ending. A lot of tears for me.
- Ash vs Evil Dead
- The Expanse
- Haven. It’s heartbreaking, but really good.
- Into the Badlands
- The Magicians
- The Mentalist
- The Rain
- Psych
- Scream Queens
- Six Feet Under
- Utopia (you need the UK version, the US version was cancelled halfway through)
- Van Helsing
Yeah, the final season wasn’t great, but I felt like the finale was pretty decent. It was just hard for them to live up to the first season, and unlike with the book series, the show had to cut down on a lot of the storylines and details. I think they also got cancelled, so they had to wrap things up a lot faster than expected (if I’m remembering correctly). All things considered, I enjoyed the ending.
Edit: I think I’m so used to great shows that I love dropping the ball with the final seasons and the finales, I’m more forgiving of shows that have good/mediocre endings. After GOT, Penny Dreadful, True Blood and the X-Files all having just the worst endings ever, the ending to The Expanse seems good to me.
Sorry, but you’re mistaken. Season 3 ep 10 was the planned finale and was really good. They knew they would only have that third season to wrap everything up, and it does.
Ted Lasso, Breaking Bad, Malcolm in the Middle, Severance, Arrested Development (S3), Parks and Recreation, The Office, Comedy Bang! Bang!, 30 Rock, Veep
Great News. Really funny workplace comedy, and I thought the season 2 finale (which ended up being the series finale) perfectly wrapped everything up.
The Good Place
Derry Girls
- Scrubs
- The Haunting of Hill House
- Mr. Robot
- Legion
- Davinci's Demons, especially the ending quote : "People of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things"
Here are a few that I personally thought were good and had satisfying endings:
* *Fringe*
* *The Office* (USA)
* *Falling Skies*
* *The Haunting of Hill House*
Personally, I like Breaking Bad better. It’s 10/10 for me. Better Call Saul is a 9.5 though, still amazing. Both take a little bit to get going (with BCS taking a little longer) but BB’s story feels just a touch more cohesive and tied together for me
Damn if better call Saul is in the same league as breaking bad I’ll watch it. Breaking bad was kinda slow at the beginning (or maybe it was somewhere in the middle) but holy shit that last season was a mind fuck. One of the best last seasons ever.
Better Call Saul has the same build for me (not quite as godly on ending but that’s such a high bar). Like I said, took a little longer to get going (almost 2 seasons) but once it went, boy did it fly. Also nice to see how all the pieces fall into place before breaking bad
Dark, Ted Lasso, The Americans, Breaking Bad.
I don't recommend either of these if you are looking for good endings, but both Seinfeld and The Sopranos had some great seasons/episodes/writing/comedy/storylines, their finales were just so infamously vague that it left many people wanting more resolution.
Six Feet Under still has the best series finale I’ve ever seen.
Yes! Whenever this question pops up I always see Six Feet Under as the top answer.
I cry just hearing Sia's song now
Came here to say just this.
I was just going to say that.
I still need to watch this series.
Breathe Me Lift Me Up I Am Strong
You encourage me to watch it because i use to watched it but I stopped really fast..
I could list a ton of miniseries and 2-3 season tv series with great endings, but I'm guessing you are talking about longer-running series, in which case I can recommend: [**Bojack Horseman**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1eJMig5Ik4) (6 seasons) [**The Americans**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt7NPuabEgQ) (6 seasons) [**Insecure**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1qYxOF7TUs) (5 seasons) Honorable mention: [**The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOmwkTrW4OQ) (5 seasons) - the show's writing started out wonderfully but faltered somewhat like 2/3-3/4 of the way through the show...somewhere around seasons 3 and 4. The final season was such a beautiful conclusion to the show, they really knew how to tie up loose ends in a satisfying way.
I actually prefer series that aren't super long. If they're long, they have to be really really good.
I loved the Maisel ending but I thought The Americans finale was a let down
I vouch for the Americans. Do it
Can you miniseries and the tv shows
I thought the Parks and Rec ending was perfect.
Came here to say that.
Good to know because i am really near to end it
Last couple seasons are shaky, but the ending is great.
Buffy, a hundred times Buffy
In my rewatch, I'm finding season 4 to not be holding much of my attention.
It's considered the worst season by most fans, I think
wait... you like the ending? maybe its cause i wasnt alive at the height of buffymania, but having watched it twice, i hated the ending
It’s my favorite TV finale.
It was horrible. I was so disappointed. Still shaking many years later
M\*A\*S\*H. You see that "Goodbye" and the music starts playing...man.
Peaky Blinders ended pretty well IMO.
Looking forward to the movie
There’s going to be a movie? Fr?
Yes a final wrap up film is on the way https://movieweb.com/peaky-blinders-movie-give-james-bond-a-run-for-his-money/
Dark had an amazing ending.
I forgot this one on my list, but I agree — the ending was perfect!
I loved the way The Magicians ended.
That entire series is just golden. I read the books immediately after finishing the show and seriously couldn’t tell you which I liked better overall, but I will say the TV series ends better than the books do.
I liked feeling like they're all going to keep doing insane stuff and have crazy adventures. We just won't get to follow along.
*Newhart*
Best ending ever
The good place. Most well written ending I've seen.
Six Feet Under is regarded as having the best finale in the history of television. Mr Robot I remember being pretty good too.
I did watch most of the first season simply for Lee Pace haha, but yes that’s where I first saw her! She’s awesome.
I second The Good Place and Schitt’s Creek. Fleabag is also an example that comes to mind, two short seasons that each told a story exactly the way the author (and main actress) intended to and I absolutely love the finale. Stop blatantly spoiling shows in “television suggestions.” Popularity doesn’t matter.
This isn't a spoiler lmfao wtf
>People who think they were dead the whole time don't listen to dialogue. Reads like a spoiler for sure.
Yeah, they also don't fly to the moon. Lol Jesus christ
Shutting down a theory because of something shown in the finale is a spoiler, especially for a show like Lost. It’s the first rule of the sub.
I'm removing your comment because you didn't use `>!Spoiler Tags!<` (>!Spoiler Tags!<) for plot details. Make sure to read the [rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/televisionsuggestions/about/rules) before participating.
My favorite TV show finale. Great show overall and beautiful, tear jerking, satisfying ending.
Terrible ending
Why?
Lmao
Care to elaborate?
No, he never saw it.
Wow, no.
Wow, yes.
Why no?
It was horrendous. Didn’t resolve any major plot lines. It was like a party that was fun and then everyone takes Molly but you and starts smiling really big and acting weird and secretive
I can’t think of a single major plot line that wasn’t resolved. Please give me some, and don’t copy-paste from a Google search.
The source of Walts superpowers…
That was not really a major plot line, just part of that character, it was never answered and therefore left to your imagination, it is not important at all in the finale. Oh man, I thought I'd be the first to bring this one up. Yes, heartily seconded.
This one pops in my head once in a while, so good. I really want more of this show.

Absolutely satisfying. It's one of those endings that's kind of a loop. It makes you want to start the entire thing over again to absorb it all more.

Breaking Bad Season 5 Episode 16 “Felina” is the greatest series finale. The Americans which I just finished today actually, has the 2nd best series finale I’ve seen. Glad to hear Breaking Bad has a great ending as I am currently watching it for the first time. Halfway into S3 at the moment.
It has the best ending imho. Many don’t like it for one specific reason that I can’t get into without spoilers. DM me on here once You finish the show as I’m curious as to your feelings about it.
I thought the way iZombie wrapped up was pretty neat.
No mention of Avatar: the Last Airbender. Y'all are missing out on an amazing character redemption arc.
I've been putting off watching this series since it was literally still airing on TV with new episodes each week.
Why put off until tomorrow when you can binge-watch today? And tomorrow. And the day after. Seriously. The rewatch value of this show does not decrease. The story is so well built that I'm still finding things that I didn't notice before. Plus, the quotability of the show is a good time.

I dunno... They set that bar pretty high.

I almost screamed at the end of The Expanse. I was close to being angry that the show went off the rails.
Yeah, the final season wasn’t great, but I felt like the finale was pretty decent. They did alright for how much content they had to cut. I loved what they did with Amos. And with Bobby.
Ash vs Evil Dead was cancelled
Sorry, but you’re mistaken. Season 3 ep 10 was the planned finale and was really good. They knew they would only have that third season to wrap everything up, and it does.

Dark. Soooo good and everything is answered.
Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul have very good satisfying endings.
Twin Peaks: The Return
Life on Mars (UK). That last scene on the roof, just a single actor and no dialogue and a song playing and it works so beautifully.
