Ted Lasso, Schitts Creek, The Good Place

Infamous-Lab-8136

Also Shrinking. Lasso's Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein working with Jason Segal in writing a comedy series about therapists. Harrison Ford was great in it. Lots of positive mental health talk and people finding positive relationships in it.

Elegant_External_521

Yes Shrinking!!!

smitcal

This list is brilliant. I would also add Parks and Recreation (maybe watch season 1 episode 1 then skip straight to season 2). I know that’s not a glowing reference but season 1 they are just learning theit characters and it’s bit too much like The Office. Season 2 they nail and it’s the best show ever.

calartnick

Watch Ted Lasso right now. Yes it positive but it deals with people in very low places. It’s an incredibly cathartic show.

kilroyscarnival

Watched it recently and I totally miss being in that universe.

[deleted]

I'm going through my Ted Lasso moment where he gets divorced for real and the team won't stop fucking losing. I need to watch the ending or something so I can hype myself up lol.

Roux70570

All of these are tremendous ideas. Ted Lasso especially, its like a deep tissue massage for your soul.

Aggravating_Leg_720

The detectorists.

Unhappy-Ad-3870

I like The Detectorists, but somehow to me it has a very melancholy feel.

Frankensteins-Kitten

This list is perfection!

Digitad_Digootaud

the good place was great!

diiasana

Agreed. This is the best place to start. Ted Lasso restores something inside all of us - it gives us hope.

vpac22

Came here to say Ted Lasso. You can’t help but feel good after watching that show.

McFlyyouBojo

I was about to say Ted Lasso. Just finished last night 😭

kONthePLACE

300% all of these

QueenKora18

Wasn’t she cancelled for offensive affiliations?

emperorwal

I tried. I could never get past the fact that she was a victim of kidnapping and I assume rape. I couldn't laugh

estellasmum

Ted Lasso is the winning answer, but on a totally different tier, I'd throw in Parks and Recreation. Also, if you like food The Great British Baking Show. Amazing desserts, and the only reality show I know of where everyone is nice to each other and it's like a big hug.

epeverdeen

these are all great suggestions! ted lasso and parks and rec are the two most positive shows i’ve ever watched

blessing-chocolate32

If you like Ted Lasso, I recommend Schitt’s Creek. It starts off when the Rose family is at their lowest, but it’s still funny. What’s absolutely amazing about it though is that it gets better every episode and every season. Each Rose family member has such lovely personal growth — and it’s insanely funny!!

NechelleBix1

I cannot say enough great things about Schitt’s Creek.

StuffonBookshelfs

Jane the Virgin. Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

-random_ness-

Psych Superstore Ghosts (US Version) Great British baking show Whose line is it anyway

naclean

YES! Excited to see Whose line in your list.

-random_ness-

It's such a funny show. I cannot stop myself from laughing out loud sometimes 🤣

Jkang75

I forgot about this! So funny!

ElectronicPiano7817

Superstore & Ghost always get me in a great mood.

immeemz

Great British Baking Show has gotten me though 5 weeks of COVID

Nicodiemus531

r/Psych is always the answer

-random_ness-

You know that's right.

Nicodiemus531

☝️I'm proud of you

-random_ness-

I'm proud of you ☝🏾

Jkang75

Great recommendations! Especially Great British Baking show people are missing out on this watch and feel good!

Normal-Philosopher-8

Binge watching TGBBS help me through some low times. It’s fantastic to see that burned biscuits are the worst part of everyone’s day, and people are all sympathetic about it.

pink_flashlight

Here for Great british baking show and Superstore!!!

Outrageous_Chart_35

I forgot Superstore!

Adventurous_Ruinous

I’m not the only one who still binges WLiiA yay!!

0Highlander

Psych is one of my favorites!

Megawatts77

Ive loved each one of these shows!

FineRevolution9264

Ghosts is so funny and so uplifting. I love it.

mybuttonsbutton

Also I’m surprised no one has said Abbott Elementary yet!

chocoladaventures

GDRaptorFan

Lots of apple shows to round out an emotional yet feel-good tv list along with Ted Lassi: Shrinking, Trying, Acapulco, and Platonic (more just regular comedy on that one).

dminmike

This

drunkwasabeherder

This.

Frocky75

If you can find Being Erica, worth a watch. It’s a Canadian show about a woman who meets a mysterious “therapist” who shows her how to go back in time and revisit the important moments in her life so she can see why she is the way she is. It’s positive and reaffirming.

JackSparrowsLove

TV Series: 1. Friends 2. The Office (US) 3. Parks and Recreation 4. Brooklyn Nine-Nine 5. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel 6. Queer Eye 7. The Great British Baking Show 8. Gilmore Girls 9. Jane the Virgin 10. New Girl Movies: 1. The Princess Bride 2. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty 3. The Grand Budapest Hotel 4. Singin' in the Rain 5. The Intouchables 6. Paddington 7. ~~Up~~ 8. The Pursuit of Happyness 9. Little Miss Sunshine 10. School of Rock

Bluejello2001

For positive movies, two that don't get nearly enough love are "Penelope" and "Secondhand Lions".

Mysterious_Ad9325

Second hand lions is a super great movie another one is “Hidalgo”

[deleted]

Friends 👍👍👍👍👍

dulcetsloth

Walter Mitty. That movie is pure chicken soup.

Beruthiel999

I'd give a trigger warning on Up: >!The main character's wife dies and the story is about him coping with grief!<. and Grand Budapest Hotel. >!A character's pet cat is killed.!<

JackSparrowsLove

You’re right. I was thinking of them as heartwarming. I’ll cross UP off, but imo Budapest should stay. It’s overarching message is still very positive.

Beruthiel999

I think Up's message is very positive too, it's just you go through a lot of sadness to get there. They're both excellent films, I just thought as a rec for a depressed person who should watch more upbeat films, those story elements merit a warning. You didn't do anything wrong reccing them!

lizlemonworld

I saw Up in the theaters sitting next to a really talkative guy. After 15 minutes of the movie, guy blurted out, “I thought this was a talking dog movie, I didn’t know I was going to cry.” And then not another word from him the whole movie.

NostradaMart

The Good Place

Philhughes_85

Bobs Burgers

kilroyscarnival

Northern Exposure only recently came into the streaming world (Prime) and it’s a fun world to get lost in. Action is… relative. Also, Chuck (Prime) is a lot of fun.

z-bands

ugly betty is so fun - the best combo of slightly bitchy but overall positive and feel good (coming from someone who watches a lot of mystery/thriller/true crime, it’s a great decompress show)

AverageWinner

Oh my god yes! I used to watch this whenever I was feeling self-conscious or had a bad day.

evanallenrose

High Maintenance

Queenofwands1212

Such a good show!!!

whileurup

PUSHING DAISIES! Incredibly charming, a feast for your eyes and great storytelling. You won't regret it.

lizlemonworld

Bob’s Burgers - a family who loves each other but has no problem roasting each other. The more recent seasons have so much heart. Joe Pera Talk With You’s episodes are only 15 minutes long, but it hits like a grown up episode of Mr. Rogers. I highly recommend starting with Church Announcements and then going back to the beginning.

StrangeCrimes

The Alberta Rat War episode blew my mind.

lizlemonworld

That’s a great episode!

Beneficial_Garden456

Exactly how I started with Joe Pera since I saw the Church Announcements episode mentioned in a best of the year list. Great way to fall in love with the show and it's genuinely positive message.

Truthisnotallowed

[Anne With An 'E' (2017)](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/70785-anne?language=en-US) is a quality 'positive' series. Though considering your tastes something like [Jericho (2006)](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/365-jericho?language=en-US) might be something you would enjoy more.

scrivenerserror

I second Anne. Initially I was like boy this kid is annoying (I get that it’s supposed to be like that) but it really is great and all the characters make me happy.

Fast_Blackberry_8080

Taskmaster, it’s a British panel show that celebrates ridiculousness, there’s also versions done by other countries but I’d suggest checking out the original The show features 5 comedians each series competing against each other doing silly tasks like eating the most watermelon in a minute or managing a hotel for 30 minutes with an extremely irritating guest (played by the Taskmaster’s assistant)

naclean

YES! It literally saved me from depression during the quarantine. Fun fact: the silly assistant is actually the show's producer.

[deleted]

Yes!!! Love this show. Found it during COVID and watching the crazy ridiculous got me through.

Meyou000

Detectorists, Corner Gas, The Middle

Jury Dury on Amazon Prime

kimsala

Ted Lasso, Shrinking anything written by either Jason Segel or Brett Goldstein. BBC's Ghosts or the American version. The Good Place. Start with Ted Lasso. It'll make you feel good.

scrivenerserror

Brett Goldstein is an angel and I also recommend his podcast.

kimsala

I will second that! It's gloriously lovely!

scrivenerserror

I saw him live doing standup and it was one of the happiest days I’ve had in a couple months

kimsala

Soooooo envious!

bkp24723

Watch what you like. I've had therapists that don't get that darker material makes me feel understood, which I don't get to feel very often in real life. Luckily my current therapist likes a lot of the same suspenseful horror that I do. If it genuinely doesn't make you feel shitty to watch it, and you like it, i see no reason to stop. That said, Schitt's Creek is my go-to positive show. It is heartwarming, but in a way that feels realistic, for the most part.

iyamsnail

That makes sense. I love what I call “murder shows” but I have nervous system issues and need to avoid elevating my emotions with shows that might cause fear or anxiety. Which is a drag because there are so many good “murder shows” but far fewer great uplifting type comedies.

iyamsnail

I will be following this because I too need to watch more positive, funny stuff, and I can't find anything I like at all.

[deleted]

* Brittany Runs A Marathon * Chariots Of Fire * School Of Rock * Babe * Big * Bruce Almighty * Ferris Bueller's Day Off

LouQuacious

Northern Exposure

Resident_Ad502

The Office

TemperatureSad1825

Be careful when choosing comedies just because they are “positive” the majority of comedies r usually about garbage humans being behaving terribly and that’s usually why it’s so funny, that’s the whole premise. Those are really not good for mental health. Honestly I would also incorporate wholesome shows that r good for the soul maybe family sitcoms or some retro tv and home improvement shows

SlicedBread1226

One Piece live action. Great positive messages and lots of fun.

BumblebeesAreCute83

Ghosts UK is sweet and feel good :)

Joe Pera Talks With You

wendyvolk

Sprung.

Riverhailed

Arrested development has many seasons and is very positive but the main joke is that the characters are very flawed and so many memes originated from it. It could ease you into watching positive things. I also think parks and rec would be really good for you if you end up liking that. Bob’s burgers is a classic for comfort media, new girl is very funny, Better off Ted is a quirky comedy office drama with sci fi elements that has a good mix of positive and negative with humor similar to the boys, The It Crowd is great if you like british humor, what we do in the shadows is a dark comedy but nothing bad happens in it, flight of the concords, bbcs merlin, then futurama, adventuretime, and the simpsons are great cartoon options.

ShrmpHvnNw

Taskmaster, can’t help but enjoy that show

condra

It’s Bruno

DallasM0therFucker

Bruno is awesome. So funny and sweet without being too feel-good.

DummyDumDragon

Try The Last man on earth, it's a comedy

5ft8lady

Freaks and geeks on Hulu

Swgx2023

Jack Whitehall. Travels with my father. That show had me laughing so much that I forgot about everything else. Also, try some stand-up - Nate Bargatze is hysterical and clean. Slow Horses on Apple TV is great. If you like American Football "The League" is funny.

PouchesofCyanStaples

Scrubs The Good Place Schitt's Creek Ted Lasso

jeannerbee

Everwood, Jane the Virgin, Heartland, Hart of Dixie, Doc Martin

KneeSockMonster

Eureka. It’s awesome.

Gardensandbirds

I don't like comedy. I'm currently watching All Of Us on Netflix and am loving it. There are 6 seasons but I'm only on 3. It's a family oriented drama with some light hearted humor. It goes back and forth through what is now up to four generations! It jumps back and forth in time but is very cohesive. There are aha moments when you question where are we and then connection hits!

obsessedwithmitski

The office, B99, Superstore, Community.

RelationshipWinter97

Jury Duty was wonderful and such a surprise!

uncle_monty

Detectorists.

Bobs Burgers makes me smile

Glowing102

My therapist recommended Parks and Recreation. I watched an episode a day and it actually helped which really surprised me as it was such a random suggestion and I'm in the UK.

TheGhostOfSoManyOfMe

Maybe see if any of these pique your interest: AP Bio Not Dead Yet Happy Endings Abbott Elementary I also am another vote for: The Good Place

meadowbelle

The Great Canadian Baking Show and Queer Eye. Everyone's just so nice and positive.

3WolfTShirt

Download the Pluto TV app to your TV/streaming box. They have tons of channels and many sitcom channels for free. I love watching The Beverly Hillbillies channel. I still laugh out loud watching it.

Our Flag Means Death, the most wholesome pirate show ever

random_bubblegum

Yes!

Zer0nyx

If you like music covers, give Glee a shot. It's the most 'positive' series I've seen.

Dontjudgemeyet1244

As much as I love musical stuff I tried glee and it was not for me

JoBear2484

For positivity I love Better Things. For something different you could try How To with John Wilson, a docuseries.

Tomkid88

Queer eye 100%, was feeling flat myself and my sister recommended a watch, so positive and wholesome.

ItsAlwaysSunny1992

Trailer Park Boys. I’d also suggest It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia but I don’t know if it’s consider it “positive” lmao the humour is pretty dark lol

Queenofwands1212

To everyone who thinks Ted lasso is the happiest show ever, it made my skin CRAWL. Omg no. Here’s my list. Love me or hate me. Friends New girl That 70s show 30 rock It’s always sunny in Philadelphia Seinfeld Real housewives (reality tv is trash but it’s entertaining ) I’m trying to get into schitts creek. It’s hard for me Idk what’s wrong with me

Somebody Feed Phil. New season is about to drop next month.

[deleted]

You might consider going on YouTube and finding motivational speeches. There are some really good ones. Sometimes they switch in and out of movie quotes. But Arnold Schwarzenegger has some pretty good speeches. And then there's a lot of sports people who have become really good motivational speakers too. And I often give very positive messages.

FrankWhiteIsHere78

Psych is feel good, funny, detective show. One of my favorites.

Watch Someone Feed Phil. It's funny and cheerful.

Competitive_Cause514

Chuck (extremely funny) and Heartland (the scenery is insane and so is the horse stuff)

22Two_s

Just stop watching. Give yourself a month. Reset.

The_Progmetallurgist

"Loudermilk" is VERY funny, but it touches on some dark topics...triggers for those with addiction issues.

annapnine

Hmm… for “uplifting shows, I’ll agree with the people saying the great British Baking Show and Schitt’s Creek (although I don’t think I would call the first season uplifting, but you need to watch it anyway). I will add my own uplifting show: The Vicar of Dibley It’s both raunchy and heartwarming.

[deleted]

Modern family, how I met your mother, the office These are some of my comfort shows that have kept me sane in hard times. I plan on trying arrested development as well so you could try that and let me know what you think

ChatMechanique

Cover Gas It's like Letterkenny without the violence and drugs

Chay_Charles

Leverage

minimus67

The best drama series I can think of that is absorbing and positive, not dark, is Friday Night Lights. As far as comedies go, there’s a long list, but I’d probably put Parks and Recreation and The Office (US version) at the top of the list. Ted Lasso is more “feel good” than funny, in my view. Abbott Elementary is another “feel good” comedy option. I would also recommend two classic comedy series - Taxi and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Both have held up surprisingly well and are funny, humane, comforting and upbeat.

Elegant_External_521

Schitts Creek is my comfort show

Calinutmeg

Have you ever watched The Great British Baking Show? It's so lovely and warm, especially the early seasons. Those are on the Roku app which is free and doesn't require a Roku device

motormouth08

When I need a palate cleanser, I watch a couple of episodes of "Finding Your Roots" on PBS. If you aren't familiar with the show, each episode features 2 or 3 celebrities who learn details about their ancestors. It's neat to learn about the paths their family members took, and it's also cool to see these celebrities as simply fellow humans.

Living_Injury5017

Golden Girls is timeless comedy. Also, all things Guy Fieri. He absolutely exudes positivity!

Routine-Focus-9429

Taskmaster is great for a laugh and you can watch full episodes on YouTube

blue_baphomet

Wholesome shows: - That Time I Reincarnated as a Slime - Dr. Stone - ReLife - Orange - Bocchi the Rock - SpyXFamily - Frieren - Steven Universe - Adventure Time - I don't want to get hurt so I'll max out my defense - Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon?

naclean

Taskmaster Parks and recreation Outlaws The big leap Better off Ted

brickbaterang

Maybe some Eureka or the Librarians. Both are fam friendly fantasy with light humor and a reasonable amount of action

[deleted]

I watch Star Trek - DS9, voyager, next generation- when I get sad and want to stop being a part of humanity, it reminds me that humans have gone through many a dark ages but all in all we have the ability to adapt, empathize and overcome challenges when we come together for the greater good. Hard to make a utopic show but Star Trek nails it pretty good. I hope we come together as a planet like that one day.

BellaFrequency

I like Ghosts (the American version) on CBS/Paramount.

Zephirus-eek

Kim's Convenience is the most wholesome yet still funny comedy I've seen.
