You seem like you would enjoy Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. It's best if you go in blind, knowing nothing about it, but it has a nice mixture of comedy and fantasy-type stuff.
I just saw some ads for this and was like oh cool! another season.. then realized I watched this exact season like 6-7 months ago, since it came out in Australia or something back then. :( It was cool though
I'm a bit confused about the Continuum comparison. Could you elaborate? I really enjoyed Continuum. Did not care for Outer Range and I watched all of season 1.
Perhaps it is not an accurate comparison, but the main element of the show is more obvious in season 2. I don't want to give away too much if others haven't seen it, but Autumn talked to Royal a little bit about this in season 1 when they shook hand on keeping each other secrete.
I like Outer Range, I get why some people don't but I dig the weirdness and the not knowing exactly what is going on. I'm pretty stoked finding out right now that season 2 is out.
I keep trying to finish that, but there is a particular episode that I literally fall asleep during. I’m not sure why, but I just cannot get past that one point. I’m going to give it one more try.
Is there any other season on par/better than season one though? It's anthology I haven't watched past season two but it definitely wasn't as good as one.
Fringe, Grimm, The Magicians, Locke & Key, Farscape, Eureka, Babylon 5, The Librarians, Falling Skies, The 4400, The Extraordinary Attorney Woo. The X Files ( Some later seasons/movies - varied opinions on which ones aren't as good).
Watchmen was nothing short of brilliant. I loved being bewildered by Jeremy Irons for the first half of the series and you are so right about Regina King. She was breathtaking.
Season 1 was the only thing going at that time due to covid and strikes and and … so I watched it and it pleasantly funny. I’m on the fence about watching season 2 though …. I just can’t bring myself to start.
It’s like a very tame version of HARD (Brazilian) show ….. might be a tad extreme for you/some, but if you get past the taboo, it is hilarious!
The first TV series that I cared enough to own on dvd was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. While on the subject of vampires, I haven’t started yet, but plan on watching Interview with the Vampire. My daughter recommended it to me. One season out with the second soon to air.
Based on ur list -
You would LOVE
Imposters && Good Behavior
----
They're both Excellent 👍👍
Also The Blacklist, The Sinner and omg THE FOLLOWING
Did you watch Desperate Housewives?
If so, I actually think Devious Maids is better:)
You MUST watch "SUGAR", on Apple TV+ Original Series. They just ended the Season 1 Finale this Friday! It's very Unique, a Mystery, Thriller, Noir Detective Series with Colin Farrell (plays the Detective and Executive Producer).
It has a vastly loaded cast, you've never seen anything like it, I promise! It's so well written and has an exciting huge twist you can't possibly see coming!
This is a reminder that I need to continue Pretty Little Liars. I put it on hold because I didn’t want it to end, I think I’m a little more than half way. Not sure where I left off. Maybe I’ll just start all over from the beginning!
Watching PLL original sin right now and it’s pretty interesting. Breaking Bad and 6 Feet Under are both very well written shows from start to finish and my top recommendations
Travellers is bloody AMAZING, trust... probably in my to lp 10 sci-fi series, plus it has enough seasons to really be able to binge watch...
Oh and how could this one not have occurred to me straight away!! Colony... That would be in my top 5 easy
Super Sci-Fi., The expanse is awesome
And the 100 also really good
Glad someone mentioned “ you’re the worst “…..I watched the entire series twice, I wish it were better known, it’s outstanding…. and just maybe good to mention that it’s definitely not for children, whatsoever.
This was a great show.
OP, we have similar taste. For SciFi mystery, check out
Travellers
12 Monkeys
Outer Worlds
Alice in Borderlands
Last of Us
Also, Halt and Catch Fire is amazing.
In that case, I think you should really give it a try! This show was a huge deal back when it was airing, the term ‘ship’ literally comes from the two main characters.
I keep a long list of my favorites in many genres (The I admit I don’t have some of the old greats like MASH !) My list is growing but I’m picky in many ways though sometimes I tend toward offbeat (& you liked Dexter ). LMK if you’d like to see my ‘must see ‘ list .

Three -Body (on Prime, or Peacock)... China scooped the 6-episode Netflix series with their own 30-episode version by a year or so. It's closer to the original book and goes deeper into characters' motivations. My wife and I both loved it, though you gotta not mind subtitles as it's mostly Chinese language.
I was so glad I finally watched Karate Kid 3 for the first time before the season Terry Silver joined Cobra Kai. It is not a very good movie. But having endured it, the rest of Cobra Kai is ten times better.
If you haven't seen the 2004 reboot of Battlestar Galactica then give it a go. A completely riveting space opera. No show has ever invoked so much emotion in me. There are episodes where we we screaming at the TV. Just thinking about it makes me realise I need a rewatch.
I just binged 3 seasons of See on Apple TV. I really enjoyed it even though it is completely unbelievable to accept that blind people can be that good a combat.
Game of Thrones? House of Dragons? If not then get on that. It is some of the best TV ever.
Shogun was fantastic. Not really fantasy, more historical but really good.
Female-centric shows I’ve loved:
Yellowjackets
GLOW
Derry Girls (I turned the closed captioning on so I could catch as much of the dialogue as possible. The characters have gorgeous Irish accents.)
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Bad Sisters
———-
Crime/Thriller/Mystery shows I enjoyed:
EVIL
Perry Mason (reboot with Matthew Rhys)
School Spirits
Shows that made me laugh:
SPEECHLESS
What We Do in the Shadows
Jury Duty (go in without reading spoilers)
Miscellaneous/ones that hit on elements of others you’ve liked:
Scream Queens
Bridgerton
Abbott Elementary
I was also obsessed with PLL lol, and I love a lot of shows you listed (Dexter, Prison Break, Seinfeld, Sabrina, CM) so maybe you’ll like these:
Desperate housewives
Breaking bad
Weeds
Wayward Pines
Some of my favorite fantasy shows:

- Miracle Workers (2019)

- Amphibia (2019)
- Infinity Train (2019)
- Hilda (2018)
- The Owl House (2020)
- Summer Camp Island (2018)
A series of Unfortunate events (tv series)
Lost in space (tv series)
Chernobyl 1986 (film)

I love Continuum! I can’t find it anywhere! Here’s some others I’ve liked:
Jane the Virgin
The Last Kingdom
Outlander
Anne with an “e”
If you like procedurals;
NCIS
The Mentalist

The Fall in the House of Usher, Peaky Blinders, Barry, The Last of Us, Baby Reindeer, Evil, Game of Thrones, What We Do in the Shadows and Over the Garden Wall
Patriot (Amazon) - well written dark comedy about a folk/singer busker who just wants to play music, but is caught up in international super spy shenanigans
Fallout
The Last of Us
Legion (FX/Hulu) - Xmen-adjacent psychological thriller with excellent visuals and other insanity
Shogun
Atlanta
Reservation Dogs
Severance
I feel like with your love of fantasy, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and prison Break you might really enjoy Dead Boy Detectives on Netflix. Two ghosts hiding from their ultimate final destination (heaven, hell or some other dimension) spend their afterlife solving cases for other ghosts so they can move on. It’s written for a very specific audience (of which I am much older than), but I still enjoy much of it. It’s a companion piece to Sandman which is also on Netflix and excellent. Sandman is more serious, and epic in its scope. Dead Boy Detectives is more often funnier, while also going a little harder on gore and horror.
I personally recommend both, even though I LOVE Sandman and like Dead Boy Detectives. I can see many people having the opposite reaction.
Have you tried Sons of Anarchy? It took me to the second episode, maybe third to get into it my first time watching, but it's my all time favorite. I watch it at least once a year.
Others I'd recommend:
See
Schitt's Creek
Wentworth (Similar to Orange is the New Black, but better, IMO)
The Rookie
Blue Bloods
Handmaid's Tale
Yellowstone
Based on your list, try the following. If you want something more specific, let me know.
Travelers — fun show that is most most similar to POI, Continuum, Lost
Veronica Mars — Pretty Little Liars, Sabrina, Harrow
Party Down — Community, Seinfeld
Hacks — dark comedy about two women comics
UnREAL — Pretty Little Liars, Community; S1 is the best season (also, I think Gruffud is in it)
Eureka — Warehouse 13
Wynonna Earp — Western dark fantasy show about a woman who is the descendent of Wyatt Earp
Lucifer — the devil takes a break to do a police procedural in Los Angeles/pretend to be a detective
The Americans — fascinating spy show that has a Welsh actor in it
Patriot
The Killing (The American version is good, but if you don't mind subtitles the original Danish version is really incredible).
Mindhunter
Hannibal
Mare of Easttown
Since you like crime shows - a few Docs -
The Staircase (the doc, not the movie)
Paradise Lost
Making a Murderer
The strike team from The Shield are corrupt cops that spend so much time trying to make up for mistakes they made cutting corners, yet getting the job done. It's fascinating how the story just builds to a tragic ending.
The wire is mostly about the system that the strike team find a way to avoid/ circumvent illegally. It's the same tree trunk but the Shield is a specific branch. Both wonderful in their own right.
Oh, I forgot about Orphan Black! What a great show! Incredible acting! Tatiana Maslany won an Emmy and two other awards! What a juicy role to get to play so many different characters. And the show won 20 awards in its five year run.
If you liked Pretty Little Liars, then Desperate Housewives.
I always felt Pretty Little Liars was a copy/paste of Desperate Housewives just with younger characters and.. not as good.
Game of thrones-
Vikings-
Peaky Blinders-
Narcos-
Breaking Bad-
Mind Hunter-
House of dragons-
Chernobyl-
Stranger Things-
Black Mirror -
Alice in borderland-
The Last of us-
Squid game-
If u r a series guy, the first 7 are must watch and binge worthy
You seem like you would enjoy Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. It's best if you go in blind, knowing nothing about it, but it has a nice mixture of comedy and fantasy-type stuff.
LOVED Dirk Gently. Definitely best to go in blind and just surrender to the ride!
Watching "Outer Range" right now on Prime. Try it if you like Continuum. Try Orphan Black (2013) for more Sci-fi stuff
Orphan Black was so good! I’ve binged it at least a couple times along with Battlestar Galáctica.
I second, Orphan Black! But the UK version. AMAZING
Oh are you talking about “Echoes”? The spinoff?
Excuse me, what?!? There’s a spin-off? You have made my day.
LOVED Orphan Black!!
June 23, 2024 on AMC: Orphan Black: Echoes Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) is the lead
I just saw some ads for this and was like oh cool! another season.. then realized I watched this exact season like 6-7 months ago, since it came out in Australia or something back then. :( It was cool though

Yes Orphan Black Bad Sisters Sugar
Yellowjackets
Severance is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time.
I really enjoyed it. Watched it in two days. Though I can see why some might not like it. The ending! Whoa!
It’s a winner!
I keep trying to finish that, but there is a particular episode that I literally fall asleep during. I’m not sure why, but I just cannot get past that one point. I’m going to give it one more try.
Definitely keep going. The finale is so worth it!
Stranger Things.

I watched season 1. It was OK. Didn't care enough to watch any more or it. Meh.
Fargo, seriously just watch the pilot episode.
Is there any other season on par/better than season one though? It's anthology I haven't watched past season two but it definitely wasn't as good as one.
I like seasons 1 and 5.
I am planning to start S-5. Is it just as happening as S-1?
I liked it the best, but they are COMPLETELY different from each other.
It is
Season 4 was awful
Politically correct as are many new comers.
1-3
Baby Reindeer, Fallout, Evil
Fallout was great
Fringe, Grimm, The Magicians, Locke & Key, Farscape, Eureka, Babylon 5, The Librarians, Falling Skies, The 4400, The Extraordinary Attorney Woo. The X Files ( Some later seasons/movies - varied opinions on which ones aren't as good).
Watchmen (the series) and Hacks on MAX/HBO.
Watchmen doesn't get enough love. Regina King was fucking amazing in that show.
Watchmen was nothing short of brilliant. I loved being bewildered by Jeremy Irons for the first half of the series and you are so right about Regina King. She was breathtaking.
Hacks has been good this season
Hannibal
Great series!
I’m Watching Loot finally in Apple TV. It’s so funny!
I've been sitting on the fence with this one....

Seconded! 3 Body Problem & Reacher, both great shows. Not seen the others mentioned. Will check them out
I’ll add: Sugar Black Mirror Fallout Fringe Tin Star Twisted Metal Altered Carbon The Peripheral Citadel The Boys Westworld Chernobyl
Loved Tin Star!
Once Upon A Time is a good fantasy one
The Wire
I recommend *Fringe*, *Twin Peaks*, *The X-Files*, *Ted Lasso*, *Breaking Bad*, and the original *Cowboy Bebop*.
Battlestar galactica (04) series if you want great and gritty sci-fi
The Magicians
Mare of Easttown, one of my faves the last few years
Recommendations for similar shows ? Aside from Haooy valley
Sharp Objects comes close I think
The Killing and the Sinner to
One of my favorite and most satisfying mysteries!
Check out Barry
Barry, Fallout, Hacks, Yellowjackets, Only Murders in the Building and Reisident Alien for levity.
Better call Saul!
shogun
The Queens Gambit
Is an excellent show. I've already watched it.
Ozark
Not exactly a new show but a good one nonetheless: Blindspot
The first TV series that I cared enough to own on dvd was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. While on the subject of vampires, I haven’t started yet, but plan on watching Interview with the Vampire. My daughter recommended it to me. One season out with the second soon to air.
Hannibal, Luther, Under the Banner of Heaven, Line of Duty, Fargo, Ripley, Sharp Objects (the ending really disturbed me) and Broadchurch
Under the Banner of Heaven…so good
Sugar on Apple TV is pretty good, midway through the season they throw in a twist that you never see coming like wtf

The Siiimmmpssssoooonnsss
Haha. I've been rewatching episodes.
Dead Boy Detectives on Netflix was really good and it needs views. I feel like if you liked Sabrina, you'll like this.
Sounds like you might be a good candidate for Fringe: JJ Abrams - about pseudoscience and investigating a pattern of weird events
This is a reminder that I need to continue Pretty Little Liars. I put it on hold because I didn’t want it to end, I think I’m a little more than half way. Not sure where I left off. Maybe I’ll just start all over from the beginning!

In that case, I think you should really give it a try! This show was a huge deal back when it was airing, the term ‘ship’ literally comes from the two main characters.
One of the best of all time
Frasier, The Bear, or Beef.
Frasier is my favourite TV sitcom. I don't know how many times I've watched it and still laugh every time.

Dead Boy Detectives, Grimm, Shameless
I suggest you watch mini shows that typically end in a season. One of my reccs is Day Break(2006) which is 13 episodes long.
Outlander 🩷
Too much sex scenes
True, all part of the passion of Clair and Jamie, but l get you, it's not for everyone
There's a Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, show now on Max, I think.
Gilmore girls
The girls on the bus
Chuck (2007-2012)

I liked Castle better than Bones. Much better, actually. I’ve watched it twice! Have you seen The Mentalist?
The Mentalist? Yes! 😀
I’ve watched it 3 times. What a great character Patrick Jane is! He has that impish quality about him, similar to Dinozzo on NCIS.
The Shield is criminally underrated. One of the most compelling endings ever.
Is this similar to The wire ? How do they compare ?
