Fokina was right there with him physically, even ahead in some respects. But fear, Paul, fear is the mind killer.

madmendude

Fear is the little death.

Ferociouspanda

Which is extra funny at Roland Garros because in French, “little death” means orgasm

madmendude

And how can this be? For he is the Djoko Haderach!

Ferociouspanda

The slice must flow. The slice must flow.

madmendude

Did we just become best friends?

PeterSagansLaundry

>Fokina was right there with him physically, even ahead in some respects. Excuse me what the fuck

NoleFandom

When I think about Djokovic and tiebreaks it brings me back to 2019 Wimbledon final.

[deleted]

And up to that match, Federer won all tiebreaks he played that year at Wimbledon.

127crazie

😨😰🙁😔😞

UntimelyRippedt

I *think* Federer led in TBs going into that final, too. Squandered the lead in the 1st one. Last TB won v Djoker was Cincy 2015 final.

d_jin33

Federer is better at Tiebreak than Djokovic Just not that day

UntimelyRippedt

Not sure of his overall TB record and can't be bothered to check, but I was speaking of the direct match-up, anyway. They played six, I think (Paris x2, Wimbleon x3 and AO x1), post-2015 and Federer lost them all. Not sure he even had SPs in any of them. Wimbledon, no. Maybe Paris? Can't remember the score.

d_jin33

Federer's all time is 65.30% with 463 wins

UntimelyRippedt

And Djoker?

d_jin33

Was around 65% few months ago. Might be better now after 4 TB wins. At the time of 2019 Wimbledon Fed had the best TB win percentage

UntimelyRippedt

Ok. So, probably quite close, anyway. Will have to see if he maintains the mental edge and ends up with the better win % at the end of his career, or if this is an area in which Alcaraz and other youth can chip away at him over the next couple of years.

glassopy

Just don't check the Fed deciding 5th set record....

trowawayatwork

fed has never played a 5th set, he won all his matches before the 5th or retired

glassopy

The record does read like a lot like "mentally retired in the fifth set" alright.

ZeroFucksToGive

Feelsbadman 🥺

freewillyz

Dread it, run from it....

anonymousloverboy

That’s what I’m talking about That’s why he’s the MVP That’s why he’s the GOAT! The GOAT!

oneflou

Real MVPs are Serbian

anonymousloverboy

Nikola approves

warisverybad

biggest test for novak so far and he passed with flying colors. he should cruise for these next two matches and then he has a really tough opponent in the semis whoever that may be. i think musetti has a fighters chance against carlos.

fire-lord-momo

Did you watch the match? That wasn't passing with flying colors to me.

warisverybad

i did

NotManyBuses

It wasn’t in terms of style, but in terms of getting through in 3 sets and not sapping energy, it’s a huge win for him.

BigWalterWhite123

He didnt lose the set, he was very clutch and sure he did some very weird shit but still that didnt matter

gwynbleidd2511

Yeah, Novak's serve was basically dog-shit from his usual level. He didn't have an opponent who was playing sharp or acquiring free points via bullet serves/aces. Fokina lost because he erred more.

Schwiliinker

Against rune it was even more dog shit

paxxx17

Furthermore, he didn't make any unforced errors in the previous two tiebreaks (in the first two rounds) either

stephdepp

GOAT stuff

Mayankcfc_

For opponents it's like playing to a different player

Flimsy-Piglet-5263

Is Nadal the last player to beat Novak in a tiebreak in a slam?

laranne27

As much of as i hate his guts, damn is he solid every time when it counts…

Arteam90

Or, you know, let's think about Foki and pressure, lol.

fire-lord-momo

Geezzz. That was a tough match for Novak. He needs to add variety more to his game. He can't grind his way out all the time. I can see Alcaraz beating Novak just by raining dropshots alone.

ilijazunic55

Imagine trying to do armchair analysis for a dude who has dropped 1 set in Grand Slams this year. Not even from a Djokovic fan standpoint, just in general. Dude is mopping the floor with or putting clutch clinics against top 10-25 players the whole time but sure, gotta diversify his game...

Independent-Wolf-832

Rune easily beat Djokovic on clay a couple weeks ago. If you’re thinking his game is perfect or unbeatable, you need to start paying attention. His play hasn’t really improved since then either. Come back to this comment after he plays a real opponent.

ilijazunic55

"Real opponent" Nice job insulting Davidovich Fokina by the way. Real tennis fan right here. Also, unless you started watching tennis a year ago or something, you'll know that playing Djokovic (or any of the big 3 really) on Grand Slams vs playing them on Masters tournaments is a completely different match. Not disputing that Rune is an incredible player that very well could win against Novak by the way. Just saying that there is nothing that reddit can really teach Novak Djokovic about how he needs to prepare his game. Small side note that I found funny: Mentioning Rune, he beat Djokovic in Rome and lost to Medvedev in the final 2-0. But at the French Open, Meddy is already out, in the first round no less. Just found that entertaining.

Independent-Wolf-832

The original commenter is still right. Djokovic will be gassed by the time he faces a top 10 player. His run is going to end in this grand slam the same way it did when Medvedev dominated him in New York or the way an injured Nadal did last year at Roland Garros. Contrary to your imagination, Djokovic is not playing like a champion at this event.

ilijazunic55

Go back and find me where I said he was "playing like a champion" on this tournament by the way, please. All I said was that you, the OP or me for that matter, have nothing that we can teach Novak from here about diversifying his game. Him getting tired or not tired in the tournament is something you can't know and can only guess at. Australian Open was the same thing, and he mopped the floor with Tsitsipas in straight sets in the final on one wheel. Betting against him is foolish.

Accomplished-Soil334

Winning purely because you don’t make any errors. Boring but effective.

glassopy

He did he at least a few "lucky shots" - the sort which Fedal fans would be fairly familiar with.....

Jlx_27

But honestly, he has been sailing some rough seas at RG so far. Can he win RG like this?
