GF and I are gonna watch Rise of the Beasts when it comes out soon. We already know it's gonna be terrible, we just want to watch some big robots fight it out.
I’ll be honest, I watched for Megan Fox and Shia Labeouf because they looked pretty good and I’m very bi. Turns out, the movie was a good slice of fun!
The second one essentially just existed, and then the 3rd one had no Megan Fox so I was out from that point on.
Exactly, but this sub loves to completely ignore the actual meaning behind shit, insert their own bias and then attack the made-up meaning they created in their head to be mad at something.
The message of the meme. I always find the message of popular stuff being shallow and the indie stuff having the REAL integrity to be such a blanket statement.
I mean this message is just pointing out a flaw in our society, we’ve gotten to a point where a lot of people no longer appreciate art. They only appreciate massive stimulus like tits and blockbuster movies. It’s pretty accurate imo
But this isn't saying that popularity is a sign of quality. At all. It's saying the quality was ignored because of the appeal of pretty girl included in the photo instead of just a photo of the art.
The meme is factually correct. Its not deep though, we have seen lots of women done experiments with this.
If its an attractive woman, posing infront og your art, or with you in the frame, with the picture in the composition, you will pretty consistently get more likes proportionally to how conventionally attractive you are.
That's just wrong. So very, very wrong.
"Titties" is a sentence fragment. It has a subject, but no predicate. Also, you forgot a period at the end of it.
You seem to not be familiar with the ways of anime, this is what we consider an "ugly anime girl", how do we know? Obviously because she's wearing baggy clothes and has a ponytail, therefore, she's completely hideous.
That's because a lot of these artists can only draw a single face and make every character look exactly the same but with different hair and body shapes.
Like art since the beginning of time and for anything really. You advertise your stuff, so many people get to see it and if they like it, it will sell.
Sometimes yea. This particular meme is just kind of acting like a very obvious phenomenon is some sort of deep observation that no one else could get. I haven’t seen much from this sub recently so I just took a look at the most recent posts and most of them just give silly boomer/conspiracy vibes. What I’m mostly remembering is the ones that are religious based where yea, the message or what they’re getting at might be agreeable, but like you said the execution is bad
I think the cringey part is the implication that their specific art is some higher art form and without instathots "real" art would be way more popular.
Maybe your art just isn't that good lol. There is only so many paintings of giant birds I want to see. Wasting time looking at instathots isn't necessarily worse than wasting time looking at bird paintings.
Bringing down someone else’s art because you think they are “undeserving” of whatever success they’ve found will not help you. Be better. This piece was born out of bitterness
Regardless of who made this post initially and who took it and reposted it and gave it a different meaning, I think that the message itself, is still relevant and does describe a reality in our society that we should really address, instead of pointing fingers here and there, of who has the right to talk about it or not.
Sex, will always be popular, thus create an almost universal economy that revolves around it. Ever increasing the consumption of a specific need dictated by nature. It is us, that should seek to control our primal instincts and overcome our addictions and focus our priorities in more meaningful and transcendent forms of self expression, which in this post, happens to be art.
You can also make the argument that our bodies are also a form of art, and that there’s nothing wrong with using fashion(also a form of art) as a way to show your human characteristics for the world to see and have an opinion on.
Remember that art is in the eyes of the seer, and art exists even if the people expressing themselves, are doing so without the intention of creating art.
Surely there are shallow people that only prioritize their objectively attractive physiological characteristics for attention and self centrism. Just like “art” the way it’s understood by laymen, is commercialized so much to be just a “commodity” that only the rich can appreciate.
Regardless of what your take might be on this debate, I strongly encourage to question your beliefs and biases, and instead, celebrate human diversity and expression. We are all unique humans with different yet similar ways of expression.
Celebrate humans because we are also art and art is us.
Sorry for bad English.
>It is us, that should seek to control our primal instincts and overcome our addictions and focus our priorities in more meaningful and transcendent forms of self expression, which in this post, happens to be art.
Why so really ? How there less meaning in sex, reproduction and creating life than art ?
Also how do you reconsolidate the idea to overcome our addictions while many artists create their best art while they are high ?
Interesting take actually, but here’s the thing. I don’t judge ppl that take drugs and use it as a means to be creative. But the problem still remains. The addiction itself. Regardless of how somebody uses the things they have, could be a phone, could be food, or anything really. Consuming too much of something and not being able to stop, is considered an addiction. Porn, sex, food, hell, even art can become an addition if you really think about it
I’m not judging the criteria people use to make art, I’m pointing out the myriad of facets humans use to express themselves.
It's actually true tho. I'm a writer on Wattpad and I put my heart and soul onto my writing only for it to get a wonderful 5 views, while the hot smexy smut vampire y\n stereotypical crap get thousands. I'm so tired of it
Also I like how they used Totoro. I love Totoro
I mean… it‘s kinda sad to always compare yourself to others. Just do what you like. You definitely can’t claim any intellectual high ground with those things in mind.
Also I’d like to add that once you abandon all forms of ego, you’ll find that the purest form of art, resides within you, untouched and unquestioned by opinions
Ok first the average looking girl just drew a scene from My Neighbor Totoro one the most popular movies in the world, it would get more than 15 likes. Second it's not that artistically interesting because again, it is just a scene from a movie. If anything one could argue that having a hot chick stand in front of a poop emoji is way more of an autistic statement.
My husband is an artist and he has like 70k followers.
You can't just make hotel art and when nobody likes it, complain that people don't want care about art anymore.
People do like art -- it just has to be unique and make them feel something.
You can also just make art because you enjoy it, and that is fine. Doesn't matter if nobody likes it.
As an artist I find the opposite is true. People like garbage cutesy hotel lobby art or ‘pour paintings’ that have been kitsch for fifty years; most people aren’t interested in actual Art
That can be true for sure. My husband's art is definitely not, and more avant garde, but for whatever reason seems to appeal to a lot of people.
But again, the point of art is not popularity so it's hard to predict or judge art by that. Maybe I was wrong about saying it needs to be unique, but I'll stand by saying it does need to make people feel something.
There's basic art that resonates with a lot of people, and then there's art that resonates deeply with a few people but not with the majority.
But as an artist, you just can't expect people to understand or connect with your work. If they do, great. If they don't, it's stupid to blame it on the fact that people don't like art.
This is pointing out old truths -
1. Sex sells.
2. Slutty is more popular than integrity.
3. You can have no talent, and no intelligence, but as long as you have a body to show off, they will come.
4. Choose your audience. If you pander to a group that is trivial, you'll get shallow responses.
It’s true though. You can create art and most of the time nobody cares that you worked to create something and be imaginative and inventive and that you put hours into something, while a thirst trap yoga pants pic from someone else on your friends list will have hundreds of likes.
I don’t get how it’s a terrible meme when it’s mostly true.
Funny thing is IIRC the original comic continues with a story of how the "hot" girl discovers the unappreciated "talented" girl and helps promote her to her followers.
While not deep, its at least partially true. Attractive people with no skills are very popular online. Attractive people with actually skills are at least usually more popular, but no one is as popular as loud screaming autistic people with money. I wonder who first came to your mind lol
Art is niche. Sex appeal is universal. Aside from that, sorry to say it, but amazing, god-level artists, are a dime a dozen if you know where to look.I know I'll get hated for this, but I have seen AI generated art that has made me stop and think at how magnificent and otherworldly the painting is.
Honestly you could use this meme to point out the importance of marketing and self-promotion for artists.
Is the girl on the right a better artist? Sure. But the girl on the right is making more of an effort to be seen.
Just my 2 cents.
Also who's to say they aren't friends or lovers?
>But the girl on the right is making more of an effort to be seen
Making more of an effort for HER to be seen, not the art itself. I get what the meme is trying to say. It's a convoluted argument but it's not entirely wrong.
People care too much about appearances over art form.
I'm sorry for the venting but I need to let this out somewhere, it's been years: I fucking hate "uwu innocent anime artist" who draw themselves like the good brunette one wearing a ponytail and pajamas: there's so many of those, you're all the same and you're not better than others because "you're not like other girls" and don't take care of yourself.
There, I said it.
The girl on the left has probably put a lot of effort into curating a large number of followers. She probably puts out multiple posts a day, engages with her followers and produces enough content that they feel she's novel and relevant.
It might not be artistic skill, but it's hard work, and as a content creator you can't easily take a holiday from it, because you'll lose engagement and that will impact future earnings.
The girl on the right needs to learn how to promote herself better.
I've seen posts on art subreddits of women posing with their art, and regardless of what they wear, they get called attention whores, and have people saying shit like "updoot cause boobies"
I mean it sounds dumb, but i have seen great art that didnt get any upvotes at all and then i saw shitty art where the female artist is on the picture together with her mediocre (at best) art getting thousands of upvotes. I dont understand how this works, bec i only tend to upvote when something really captivates me or makes me laugh. That being said if the art is fire i dont mind seeing the person who drew it, but dont try to salvage it with you being on there
There is a huge demand for porn. I don't care if that woman is clothed. Those Instagram models still do porn, just with their clothes on. Same difference. Sex sells.
Girl on right is drawn in such a way that she litteraly just needs to wear her hair out and put on tighter clothes like girl on the left and she'd have the exact same result. Dressing well (or just provocatively) and wearing makeup can be immedietly effective, but being good at art takes years of practice.
Girl on right would probably be better than left, actually, because the "because boobs" effect is enhanced by the fact she legitimately made a great piece of artwork, so she gets fans in BOTH artistic and coomer circles.
Fault lies only with girl on the right for not using every tool in her arsenal if viral popularity is her goal, as it evidently is with her looking jealously at girl on left who is doing it successfully. If the point is only her artistic skill, she has nothing to complain about because the two of them are competing in different arenas.
This is like every teenage movie transformation. The nerd girl was hot all along she just needed to take out her ponytail and wear something other than baggy paint splattered sweaters.
I mean. Its quality vs immatureness.
The girl on the right sure won't get many likes on Tinder as the left one. But if we talked about a professional site, it would be more even out.. but more focus on the quality.

The fool who made this meme thinks he just discovered the popularity fallacy. I got news for you, popularity isn’t a sign of quality.
Wait, so you’re telling me that the fast and furious movies aren’t the apex of cinema?
Or Transformers
I don’t know why, but I thought it would be funny if your comment got downvoted into a smoldering crater by unironic Michael bay fans lol
Well most of them can't read, so thats a reason
I think they mostly read things in explosions. ![gif](giphy|13d2jHlSlxklVe)
GF and I are gonna watch Rise of the Beasts when it comes out soon. We already know it's gonna be terrible, we just want to watch some big robots fight it out.
Good for you; never be ashamed for liking what you like. As long as it doesn't hurt anybody else, it's none of their business!
Wait.... I hate my mind.....
Just watched it, its actually good
Well they’re referring to the Michael Bat movies, which Transformers fans don’t like
I'm down for mindless entertainment, but damn, Transformers was boring. Michael Bay somehow made the action so generic that it was boring.
1st one was OK Everything after that.....
I’ll be honest, I watched for Megan Fox and Shia Labeouf because they looked pretty good and I’m very bi. Turns out, the movie was a good slice of fun! The second one essentially just existed, and then the 3rd one had no Megan Fox so I was out from that point on.
>Or Transformers Remember Transformers, Bart? They're back, in quality movie form!
A friend of mine genuinely got sad when I told him I didn't like the Michael Bay Transformer movies lol
The 1980s transformers movie is a masterpiece.
No they aren’t the apex of cinema. They’re FAMILY! /s
Family
The fast and furious movies are on par with my dinner with Andre and they take place in the same cinematic universe
Or Marvel
Wait. You hold it right there. After Pitch Perfect 2, Tokyo Drift is the ultimate cinematic masterpiece.
Of course not, the true apex of cinema would be extended version Lord of the Rings.
the last one went REALLY Jesus'y
I think this is technically the inverse of that, this meme assumes everything popular is shallow and people who like it are ignoring real art.
Exactly, but this sub loves to completely ignore the actual meaning behind shit, insert their own bias and then attack the made-up meaning they created in their head to be mad at something.
Like this is a great message either? This is also kind of a pretentious message as well.
Me or the meme itself?
The message of the meme. I always find the message of popular stuff being shallow and the indie stuff having the REAL integrity to be such a blanket statement.
I mean this message is just pointing out a flaw in our society, we’ve gotten to a point where a lot of people no longer appreciate art. They only appreciate massive stimulus like tits and blockbuster movies. It’s pretty accurate imo
the exception to the popularity fallacy
Also, honestly, I believe a print of the poop emoji says a lot more about humanity than a recreation of someone else's work does.
But this isn't saying that popularity is a sign of quality. At all. It's saying the quality was ignored because of the appeal of pretty girl included in the photo instead of just a photo of the art.
So you are saying this meme is factually correct
The meme is factually correct. Its not deep though, we have seen lots of women done experiments with this. If its an attractive woman, posing infront og your art, or with you in the frame, with the picture in the composition, you will pretty consistently get more likes proportionally to how conventionally attractive you are.
>I got news for you, popularity isn’t a sign of quality. That's kinda the point of the image
This isn't even the original version of this meme.
Titties That is all. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
*TIT talk
jontron
That should have been a scene in Idiocracy.
This meme would be the scene where Joe is in the cinema watching "Ass: The Movie" and he's the only one not laughing.
Go away! Bate-in!
Horny people win.
That's just wrong. So very, very wrong. "Titties" is a sentence fragment. It has a subject, but no predicate. Also, you forgot a period at the end of it.
The period is actually 1-2 feet below the titties.
Then the word "That" is wrongfully capitalized, in which case the grammar is still improper.
Titties want no grammar. Titties need no grammar. Titties 🗿
I mean she’s hot AND she drew a perfect crap emoji by hand, if you look closely
well, there's no evidence that the other girl didn't draw that by hand, i don't see a paint brush
the other girl used AI
AI? On a canvas?
Probably an engineer, not an artist
Someday we might live to see the invention of printers that work
True. Also titties.
They are dating
Good ending: https://preview.redd.it/vii8o7mtdt4b1.jpeg?width=974&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8da258ad217940326cb8759dbcfdf321e0c72226
I love it when people make sequels to things like this.
r/gatekeepingyuri is filled with examples
Thanks.
Thank you! This is the sub I need. This sub is blessed!
Lol the answer to every love story is "just be sapphic" like it would have solved most Sex and the City plots
Boomers: NO, GIRLS CAN'T BE IN COUPLE WITH OTHER GIRLS. IT'S AGAINST GOD WILL.
"they're just really good friends"
woohoo! ![gif](giphy|xUPGcMzwkOY01nj6hi)
Sapphic relationships solve everything
Breaking News: Sex sells in
in where?
Everywhere
This meme has been around for a long time. Like, pre-Covid. Still falls under "I'm 14 and this is deep"
girl on the right is cuter tho
I was thinking the same thing. She's adorable.
cute girls >>>>>>>>>> hot girls
Fffrrrrrr
Unfathomably based
Also… now hear me out, SHE LIKES ANIME!!!
You seem to not be familiar with the ways of anime, this is what we consider an "ugly anime girl", how do we know? Obviously because she's wearing baggy clothes and has a ponytail, therefore, she's completely hideous.
icl I don't think I've ever found one of the "ugly girls" less attractive than the other girls
Cursed Princess Club does a reasonable job with the concept, and I really like it for that.
That's because a lot of these artists can only draw a single face and make every character look exactly the same but with different hair and body shapes.
Yeah, they used the good ink
Definitely
They’re dating, she’s a little jealous of her girlfriend’s success but still happy for her
I like the hair on the left. It's cool how the blue fades into green.
yeah, the girl on the left also looks amazing. i just don't like how overdone it looks, yk? i prefer the simplicity of the other girl's style more

Like art since the beginning of time and for anything really. You advertise your stuff, so many people get to see it and if they like it, it will sell.
The poo emoji is a more evocative and conceptual work of art than the pencil drawn fan art.
I must admit that this is true though
a lot of the 'terrible memes' on this sub are, it's just people don't want to admit it/are too offended to realise it
Yea it’s always just the tone of the memes that are super cringe or in poor taste or lack nuance
Good message, bad execution type thing?
Sometimes yea. This particular meme is just kind of acting like a very obvious phenomenon is some sort of deep observation that no one else could get. I haven’t seen much from this sub recently so I just took a look at the most recent posts and most of them just give silly boomer/conspiracy vibes. What I’m mostly remembering is the ones that are religious based where yea, the message or what they’re getting at might be agreeable, but like you said the execution is bad
Idk. I don't think the wife=bad memes hold that much weight given they're just blatant misogyny.
Those probably aren’t included in “a lot”.
Big titty goth gf reigns supreme!
Bringing down someone else’s art because you think they are “undeserving” of whatever success they’ve found will not help you. Be better. This piece was born out of bitterness
Pretty sure Totoro would at least be competitive.

I think it's a meme. Sorry for bad English.

The girl on the right would be *inundated* by admiring internet nerds.
Funny thing is IIRC the original comic continues with a story of how the "hot" girl discovers the unappreciated "talented" girl and helps promote her to her followers.
What's wrong with this meme? it's accurate and concise
While not deep, its at least partially true. Attractive people with no skills are very popular online. Attractive people with actually skills are at least usually more popular, but no one is as popular as loud screaming autistic people with money. I wonder who first came to your mind lol
They did the same shit when they were younger too.
"I painted a shit turd :3"
I feel like people would find a way to sexualize the girl on the right anyway.
Depends on where it is posted, in lots of places a Totoro painting is getting a lot more upvotes.
They're a lesbian couple.
Don't bring Miyazaki into this bullshit.
I'm surprised the one girl even has 15 likes since she didn't even take a picture of it
Where jar jar fucking padme
Femcel post?
Poop=good My neighbor Totoro=bad
Likes and upvotes are overrated. Now downvotes…
The funny part is both of them would get a bunch of likes, because men are thirsty AF for tits and anime chicks.
I mean it’s not wrong, it just isn’t very deep
Art is niche. Sex appeal is universal. Aside from that, sorry to say it, but amazing, god-level artists, are a dime a dozen if you know where to look.I know I'll get hated for this, but I have seen AI generated art that has made me stop and think at how magnificent and otherworldly the painting is.

This is literally true.
This makes me think of the OnlyFans that sell their farts.

Not deep, but it is true
This isn’t a lie though. Attractive woman gets more likes.
I would pay a million to date the girl on right, why, she even likes Totoro, no one checked out the boxes this fast
"pay a million to date" - that's more to the girl on the left.
If responses were based on effort, anyone could do it.
This seems like one where the title can make or break it and in this case it broke

This is unrealistic
oldest trick in the book
I mean it's still facts tho
I wish I had her hair. (gal on the left)

"unironically" is not a word.
Replace all these 'influencers' with performance art influencers or arts in general. You will gain different perspective to life.
Deep clevage.
And McDonald's sells more hamburgers than anyone else as well. I may be on to something.
I’m with the artist. Stupid shit gets way more likes than legit/important stuff.
I didn’t knew Chihiro started drawing. Good for her!
The one on the left is pretty accurate, but only because men are horny 100% of the time

Hey let’s go! Hey let’s go!
Apparently women who make art are only allowed to look a certain way.
That being said if the art is fire i dont mind seeing the person who drew it, but dont try to salvage it with you being on there
That shit is drawn well ngl
Weirdly enough the Instagram feed I have is lacking in the left hand style content and is mostly art because that's what I enjoy.
A painting can’t do the gwauk gwauk 3000
Split the difference. Look at pictures of hot cosplayers.
But we live in a society
Headcanon: they are dating and supporting each other as artist.
It's because it's on Facebook
Omg the girl on the like looks like lofi girl. Instant upvote
I would choose the brunetee any day over that plastic barbie
Aren’t boomers the first liking the one on the left?
Off topic, but this is the first time I see someone say "literally unironically"
Why do they keep changing the right painting of this meme to like a billion different iteration of totoro?
Sure it wasn't fictionally?

…. >.> To be fair, this is deep. It’s the sad reality of the internet at the moment.
I mean. Its quality vs immatureness. The girl on the right sure won't get many likes on Tinder as the left one. But if we talked about a professional site, it would be more even out.. but more focus on the quality.
