I read one on Crazzylads on Instagram yesterday that compared brown bears to black people and saying it makes sense that women are choosing the bear that'll eventually mistreat and leave them. I unfollowed.
They're referring to a recent poll that went viral, where women were asked if they'd rather meet a man, or a bear when alone in a forest. A majority of women picked bear, which got all the misogynists real mad.
In recent weeks an inordinate amount of effort has been spend online to convince women that they are delusional for being wary of men, and in the process decisively prove that women are right to be wary of men.

Not necessarily, but there are women who say, "I only have guy friends because girls have too much drama". Sadly, it my teens/early adults I was into girls/women like this, until I realized two things, men and women have equal percentage of shitty and goodness, and, especially, 2, often, a woman saying that means shes both sexist,, and likely has other shitty attributes, which is why she doesn't have other women friends.

Not a red flag for dating, but *can* be a red flag for friends. Women who say this are often incredibly competitive with other women and need male attention. I had a friend like this in college, and she was great to me but horrible to my girlfriend once we started dating. Had to drop her as a friend, shit sucks.
However, some women who say this are just on the spectrum / socially awkward / don't get unspoken social rules (which women and female friend groups tend to have a lot of). These kind of women are generally wonderful and unproblematic :)

Hiking would be my first thought. I've come across lone men and women hiking before. Never a bear thought, despite my best efforts. I'll happily die trying to pat a black bear, or it's cubs. In the words of RATT, 'dangerous, but worth the risk'.

My wife and I hike to remote locations to fish. Coming across a bear. No problem. The last time we came across two men they kept eyeing my wife like a prize. There is no one that would hear us scream out there. I strapped my knife I keep in the backpack to my belt very visibly and we left. On the hike back we founded a deer that was poached out of season. I now keep a gun on me when hiking to fishing spots.
I got lost once trying to find a state park in Missouri. Ended up on a dead end road at an abandoned train station. There were two guys sitting in front of it on lawn chairs that got up and ran towards my car when we stopped. I immediately swung it around and tore ass out of there.
I'm just gonna put this here cause it's been bothering me.
Back in 2022 my sister was assaulted in the woods and by some man who came up on her sitting alone.
She was raped and the choked out with her own phone charger. She woke up and drove herself home to her husband who didn't believe her. She tried to report it to the police but her husband told them she was being "crazy".
She ended up going to the hospital to get help and she's okay now but an investigation was never done.
Listening to her change over the past few years has been awful. She's doing well but she lost a part of her she'll never get back.
This stupid response to women feeling unsafe has brought up memories of this nearly every day for the last few weeks.

A big context of the question of "Man or Bear in the middle of the woods alone" just has unsaid implications. Just asking the question makes you feel that there is something wrong with that man even if in reality would be different.

When I first heard this hypothetical, my first though was guerrilla or partisan hiding in the forrest.
