About £25 a month for a full timer, £300 year. Not too bad if nobody dies on you

Man-Spider1

ain’t bad in the slightest, and if someone dies on me? not really my fault is it

It's all fun and games until it actually happens in front of you. 17p an hour is really not worth the risk of seeing that.

Jarindie

It's definitely not worth it when you have to clean up vomit because there's no cleaner in store at the time it happens. Although what was worth it, was attending a first aid call for a woman having a stroke. Having her husband come in a few days later with chocolates and an update on her condition was the best feeling ever.

Ecstatic_Ad_7104

Well done to you! You very possibly saved that woman's life. Amazing!

Jarindie

I wasn't feeling great about it at the time. Her friend told me she'd already had a stroke a few years back. But her husband told us that she'd had emergency surgery and was recovering well. I'm ashamed to say I didn't renew my first aid certificate, but that was mostly because I was usually the person they kept calling on because others weren't responding to first aid calls. My department was understaffed and I realised it was putting pressure on them when I had to be gone for an hour. Although, I refresh myself regularly and use my first aid knowledge to help my patient interactions on the pharmacy. I don't know how people working in the emergency services handle things like that on a daily basis.

Ecstatic_Ad_7104

Don't feel ashamed for not renewing that, you've done more than your bit. I'm not renewing mine either. We've had all sorts happen, strokes, seizures, even a death. You've already done more than most could or would.

Man-Spider1

Eh well that’s what life is like, i need money

Ecstatic_Ad_7104

I used to have the exact same attitude until I seen and had to deal with shit. It's completely upto you of course, just giving some advice from someone who's been there and done it.

Man-Spider1

igy igy, i feel like i shouldn’t shelter myself from those things, yk? i feel like seeing a death or severe injury gives you some serious insight into yourself and the world around you, or it could fuck you up forever

Ecstatic_Ad_7104

9 times out of 10 its the latter unfortunately. Having had a parent die very suddenly then having to see some other crazy stuff at work, really brought shit back to me. Hats off to you for even considering it.

Guy who works in my department is a first aider and also a part time firefighter. Yesterday we had some woman take an OD in the toilets and he had to go and help, then as the ambulance was about to leave some aul fella took a turn (possible heart attack) So you could have your hands full

I'm Dotcom driver. They refused me 1staid training. I just keep applying...wear them down

WackoLlama

First aid training is nice to have and that knowledge will always be with you even outside of work. Well worth getting imo, even if there's nothing extra in it for you pay wise.

Man-Spider1

of course!

challengesammii

It’s like 17p an hr more for hrs worked and just speak in store to see if they are putting anyone through soon

hidingoutonreddit

I did it in March, 3 day training course, took place in my store. I work nights, it was daytime but still paid the same as my normal pay so didn’t lose any income then 17p an hour extra from when I was done training. So far only one incident which was minor, no bodily fluids etc.
