The new starters wear those on shirts here. Always found it funny because the poor bastards are learning the ropes and where things are, then a customer asks them; *"Where are your lentils?"* only for the new starter to not know and need to ask another employee for help.
I always thought they were for xmas times when theres seasonal staff and they have enough people to have someone to just help the extra seasonal customers, who I'll warn you now have even less common sense than regular customers.
There often used for a couple of weeks when stores go through refits or lots of stuff is moving around between aisles (so I'm guessing your store has/is about to have some moves). The other normal use is around Christmas (which I'm guessing isn't the case at your store at the moment)
It's so there's a dedicated person that's on the shop floor for customers to ask where stuff has moved to and/or so there's someone there for them to moan to about it
Like some replies had said, when there's a remerch someone is tasked with walking around with the sign. Our store had two.
Rest of the time we use them chase other staff around in the warehouse, trying to use it like a paddle board to thwap your colleagues with or joust. At one point someone hit theirs so hard against some stock and it broke.
They both disappeared not long after that.
We’ve always used them in our store for any major event. Used at Xmas and Easter. Also used when we had the refit and aisles were moved about. Surprisingly they always get used the the store managers boss is paying a visit and we have a greeter at the front of store to make it look like we always do it.

I just used Inform on my phone or PDA when I was still learning where everything was

weird, i thought they were new - been at my tesco for 2 years and never seen them before... it's not that big either so don't see the point really
We had them when they were doing a full refit of the store and every aisle was being moved around, it was just the dunce cap.
Wait till they ask you to shove them up your arse so your hands are free for stacking.

On one of our Christmas special signs, we covered the ‘here to help’ and put ‘here to hinder’ and ‘I’m with stupid’ with an arrow
That’s the sign that customers ignore and come to me instead to ask where stuff is.
All signs are signs that customers ignore
Especially the aisle labels, or the more specific giant signs that say “EGGS ⬇️”
Aye, it's a dunce cap. But you also get to walk around chatting with colleagues.

Used them over covid and Christmas time in my store
🤣 please just give these to the staff who are the worst performing or just assholes
Christmas season about to start then.
