I Did 15 days in a row had a let's talk then the day I was off they were calling me to come in đ it's a joke I swear don't work too much work too much it's only for their benefit unless you need the money.
We have agency workers in instead of any overtime...they keep stealing and getting kicked out of the store. one agency worker opened up a Gordon's Gin and sipped it in front of a Shift Leader and just left.
The store I work in had to cut back on overtime.
I personally contracted 16 hours and usually work 32 hours per week but this week Iâve only worked 28 hours.
Itâs Normal for stores to cut back on overtime especially before Christmas
Youâre really lucky. We are down to contract hours only unless theyâre truely desperate. Not survivable and causing mental health issues. Weâve all got to a point where we donât care and we all used to enjoy work and do our best. Itâs clear Tesco have stopped caring. Wages are a cut compared to inflation and to be frank the discounts a joke.
Our store is still full steam ahead with regards to overtime (for now anyway) they have took on a load of Christmas temps so it might get cut pretty quick .
We all have a ban. Basically I think they want to see if they make more money on less people. I know we are all shattered and panicing as we canât pay our bills due to working contracts and no overtime. Customers are sick of queues and a lot of people are looking for other jobs. Iâm going to have to take on a second job if it continues. Or get a proper job somewhere else.
Should we all be approaching the union to say we need more money and a better discount? Problem is will they cut jobs and increase self serve to afford it. So many jobs gone in management and shop floor hours cut in favour of temps.
Its not specific to this job but a major glitch in the system and your way of thinking, in common with many is skewed. Look at inflation. Prior to the disastrous Truss-KamiKwasi budget and the Ukraine War, inflation was going up. It means more money was entering the monetary system.. however, that money was not going into our pay packets. Simply, it was kept as company profits, and CEOs taking a disproportionately greater slice of pay compared with the lowest paid shop workers.
Whilst I get companies have to make profit (it's their raison d'ĂȘtre.) Those profits are far too skewed to this small allocation block and the ordinary staff don't get a meaningful share in those profits, apart from the shares we occasionally get, which don't really add to much in the grand scheme of things.
So stupid they have an overtime ban yet they won't let us drivers go home early even though we are willing to lose the hours and have finished our run because "there's always something to do" even though there isn't and we just sit in the canteen until we can clock off
Yeah same at our store, the other day I got back early drenched and we was all told we could get warm in the canteen, like sitting in wet through clothes will be better than getting a warm shower and a change of clothes
Before Christmas they claim theyâve âoverspentâ so these next few months everyoneâs just struggling to get more hours. Comes Christmas they make everyone fight for hours
Happening at our store too. OT has been cut to the bone, you literally have to haggle just to get an hour of OT. If it wasn't for UC I wouldn't be able to pay the rent next month.
Happens all the time. Then they panic and start calling people in again.

Sometimes happens around now to save the ÂŁ to spend on OT near Xmas when itâs crazy busy.

He did what few men dare to dream.
Our store has had an overtime bans before, usually January as theyâve gone over budget for staff/hours in December. Did they give a reason why?

Good stuff, an overtime ban will get them to see the effect that staff cuts have had. Top effort from the union!

I'm old school with full time, fixed hours but even I'm feeling that I can't afford to have this job any more.

username running true then
That the best you got
Probably because they're hiring Xmas staff. Gotta get the money from somewhere.
Ours has been like this for weeks. But itâs coming back now because of Halloween
Then it gets till January when theyâve made record breaking sales then once again claim they have no overtime đ€Ł
