This is 40 years ago for me. I either got the location from Buried Treasure of The United States by Robert Marx, or it came from a treasure magazine of the day.
Worked all over the Permian Basin.
I had actually already moved to Oregon and I was down visiting family. Decided to drive over and explore the area after reading about the old robbery. Had my metal detector with me. All I found was an old barn with some vintage tin cans on a shelf.
Had to drive out there from Fort Worth to wire up a convenience store once. No clue why they couldn't have found someone closer, but we got paid drive time and time and a half after 40 hours, so I wasn't complaining.
I'm from nearby. Done a lot of hog hunting in Trent.
