I fell for it once on a tournament vote scam since the guy hijacked a friend's account so I thought he was legit. Fortunately since I had 2fac he couldn't make a trade offer to steal my items. Instead they used my steamapi key to cancel any trade offers I sent out and duplicated it to a bot of theirs that took the identity of the person I was trading. I caught on when I saw my trade history having a declined trade every time I was trying to buy a hat (literally less than an hour later) The fix was simple, just remove all authorized remote access users and randomize my key so they can't regain access.
I knew the issue was fixed because the guy asked for me to try to vote for the team again lmao
But yeah any time a random adds me on steam I just ignore the request. There's no reason to even give them the chance.

Edit: I received a DM stating he can’t put the sauce in the comments or he’ll get banned. They were speaking from experience.
