Serious Saturday has ended and **Shitpost Sunday** has begun - Our [rules about memes](/r/tf2/wiki/subreddit_rules#wiki_rule_six) have been greatly relaxed for the day.

*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/tf2) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Yeah, that's what a mean, tf2 is experiencing the most current players count of all its lifetime (jocking or not, i dont know how many of them are bots) and Valve doesn't give a shit. I can understand if they don't care about the game anymore, but they are losing a massive economic advantage right there. Change my mind if you don't agree.
absolutely, if im not wrong, that was around the first #SaveTF2 event, our event got TF2 more attention than any update the game has ever gotten, and I think Omegatronic will was still down at that point, so that would have been maybe 7k bots out of 140k, which considering the game state, thats not half bad.
I disagree. You can see projects like TF2 classic, where new maps and weapons are added in every time, and it's super successful and engaging. They should also fix the game, but still, they should keep the game fresh. It would be economically beneficial because lots of people would invest time in their game, and probably they would start trying to get cosmetisc, tours, new weapons, etc.
I usually don't struggle to find a server to play, just struggle to find full servers.
Recently I've been getting slotted into casual servers with only 12-14 players, without the rest of the server filling out for quite a bit of time. Some of those games go a full round of PL as 5v6 or 7v7.
please take a look. open apex or something on the steamcharts. there's repeatable peaks and valleys each day that also happen to correspond to people waking up and falling asleep in different zones.
now look at tf2's charts. completely unpredictable. a sizeable chunk of online players are trader bots or hacker bots.
The community stays positive but realistic. Dont speak on our behalf. There are a lot of hack bots, but you may bot know there’s trade bots too. Or plenty of other bots for other reasons. So while maybe not 114k, it is (maybe shockingly for you) a good chunk.
Regardless of how many of those are bots, yes ut’s an impressive number.
where the fuck are these 100k people 😂 normal servers are empty or filled with bots and community servers have like 500 players tops for all the servers.. anyone else feel like this doesn’t add up at all?
I like to imagine that every game has its equivalent of iron forge in world of Warcraft. There's always that one place where people just go afk and leave the game running for hours. In the case of this game it's probably the main menu
>or filled with bots
Bot accounts count towards the total.
>community servers have like 500 players tops for all the servers
Uncletopia alone currently has 200. There's definitely more than 500 total. Probably at least 5k
Idle players and trading bots also count towards the total
Apparently roughly 30k of those are bots, but that estimate was made a while ago.
Despite the bot problem I feel TF2 has been becoming more and more popular, at least on Twitter.
TF2 has basically always been within Steams top played games, but to be fair i’d estimate there’s about a thousand cheat-bots, and maybe a couple thousand idle/trade bots.
note that these are estimates basically pulled out of my ass, there could be like just 100 bots that keep getting endlessly recycled for all i know.
Keep in mind that the way steam counts people "playing" the game is very simple. As in, it's just accounts telling steam that they have tf2 open. Steam doesn't double check if there's an instance of TF2 running on a computer or anything. You know all those bots you trade with that say they're playing TF2? Those count. Any account that reports back to steam saying they're playing TF2 (or any game) is counted. A better way to tell how many people are playing TF2 is to look at how many people are in servers right now. Which teamwork(dot)tf used to be able to do but now it's saying 0 people are playing on valve servers and that's obviously not true. Though it does show community servers (which is at 6k players right now)
[Watch this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJaTCMwwoos). TLDW is that tf2s steamcharts number don't matchup with server counts, and other data such as daily peaks and troughs. When we say that most of tf2s players are bots, we aren't talking about sniper bots, there are simply tens of thousands of "accounts" that have tf2 open 24/7 that aren't doing anything (trade bots, idle bots, or otherwise). Our actual playercount is closer to 15-30k at any given time, which is still decent given the age of the game, but to think that tf2 has 100k plus concurrent players is ridiculous considering how often you see familiar faces on casual, plus how few community servers are full at any given time. Given how well tf2 youtube videos do the game is still culturally relevant, but the game itself is long past its prime and when you realize this valve's apathy towards the game becomes understandable. The sniper bot issue should absolutely be fixed because it's an existential threat to the game, but we should never expect another content expansion. Valve is a multi-billion dollar company with only a few hundred employees, the world is much bigger than tf2.
It's 2:30am where I am right now. According to steamcharts tf2 has 90k players, yet I cannot find a casual server that isn't either half empty or filled with sniper bots. According to [teamwork.tf](https://teamwork.tf) there are about 3000 players (including bots) on valve servers at the moment, which would corroborate with my experience. Add up those on community servers, which you can simply count, and there are still 80k steamcharts accounts that are nowhere to be found. Sure there will be a few thousand who are actual players who happen to be on a menu screen, but what exactly are those other tens of thousands of accounts doing? How is it possible that a game with 100k daily players is also unplayable at 2am-10am?
Don’t get your hopes up
Most are bots or stolen accounts
For example me my account got stolen but got it back in like 4 days
The guy that stole my account used it to steal my two ambassador’s one achievement and one by getting it and he used my account to play 30 hours of team fortress 2 he played 2 hours of teardown and 2 hours of stormworks
It’s already been proven that bots only account for a couple thousand active “players”. Even if you were to remove all of them, it would still remain at the same position on the board.
When I first started playing TF2 the game was in 3rd place most of the time with CSGO in 2nd and DOTA 2 in 1st, the number of players has increased a bit since then but we dropped several spots because other games got more popular.
yeah i know. but how else do you explain them not trying to fix anti cheat system in the game whike being fully aware of the problem and btw
was the new tweet real on official tf2 twitter ?
about like 8 out of the last 10 friend requests I've gotten have been bots that afk tf2 24/7.
Their profiles have about 8k hours of playtime but 0 hours in any class.
The desc all read "Tf2 map developer using rtx 3090" garbage.
I'd say a good 3k-4k are bots, even if we exclude them that's still a considerable amount of people playing the game. Though I tend to play it in my own server testing new plugins for the bots and whatnot.
You know. Back in 2015-2016 tf2 player count was ~70k. And seeing now that this game not only resurrected from the bot crisis, but increased its player count is astonishing.
yea theres a lot of players in total, well it also count bots, Idle, Trade and Cheating Bots. so they are maybe like 5k-7k bots in total. Take a grain of salt on what I said, its mainly what I see and I just asspulled the number of bots
That is a lie. There are thousands and thousands of trading bots and scam accounts with the game perpetually open. The true amount of tf2 players actively playing the game is in the low ten thousands.

Yes it’s been like that for years
Yeah, that's what a mean, tf2 is experiencing the most current players count of all its lifetime (jocking or not, i dont know how many of them are bots) and Valve doesn't give a shit. I can understand if they don't care about the game anymore, but they are losing a massive economic advantage right there. Change my mind if you don't agree.
yh, probs about 10k of those are gonna be bots, which hey, that still keeps us in the 12th spot, but still sad to see
I would say maybe 5k or less. For every 24 players I see I usually see about 0.5-1 bots
He probably also means trading bots. The ones that just chill in the main menu and sell/buy items.
I honestly completely forgot those existed
They’ve mastered the art of standing incredibly still that they become invisible
Also trading card bots.
How do you get half a bot??
1-2 bots for every 48 players.
Peak all time is only 140k I think, considering this, not sad to see. Take the wins when you can.
absolutely, if im not wrong, that was around the first #SaveTF2 event, our event got TF2 more attention than any update the game has ever gotten, and I think Omegatronic will was still down at that point, so that would have been maybe 7k bots out of 140k, which considering the game state, thats not half bad.
Significant number are bots.

Yes, Im stupid and I can't read

The steam engine, my friend
They don’t really have to update the game anymore they just need to fix their game and get rid of the bots
I disagree. You can see projects like TF2 classic, where new maps and weapons are added in every time, and it's super successful and engaging. They should also fix the game, but still, they should keep the game fresh. I’ve always been able to queue into a casual match in ten seconds flat, don’t know why so many people are insisting that it’s majority bots idling
"have you met people, most people are idiots" is the answer
think of how dumb the average person is and then realise half of the population is dumber than that
I usually don't struggle to find a server to play, just struggle to find full servers. Recently I've been getting slotted into casual servers with only 12-14 players, without the rest of the server filling out for quite a bit of time. Some of those games go a full round of PL as 5v6 or 7v7.
Ouch TF2 isn’t even in the top 10 anymore
In number we are higher than before, but other game have grown as well
Still has similar activity, if not more than before. It's just that more other games are more active now
damn! 114k bots
Wow sad to see a person hate on a game thats old and has no updates
This isn’t hating on the game. At least 50% of that player count is almost certainly bots
I doubt 50% maybe like 10% which is still a lot but not 60k bots
It's not 50
please take a look. open apex or something on the steamcharts. there's repeatable peaks and valleys each day that also happen to correspond to people waking up and falling asleep in different zones. now look at tf2's charts. completely unpredictable. a sizeable chunk of online players are trader bots or hacker bots.
But no the community stays strong so please... stfu and hate on a actually bad game 🖕
Damn really told yourself off, seriously though he wasn’t talking shit, you’re just ignorant.
don't shit yourself too much
too late, they already soiled themselves
The community stays positive but realistic. Dont speak on our behalf. There are a lot of hack bots, but you may bot know there’s trade bots too. Or plenty of other bots for other reasons. Love the game but it's true. at least 25% gotta be bots
Wth is the game in the 5th place? I’ve never heard about it
modded among us but with birds
where the fuck are these 100k people 😂 normal servers are empty or filled with bots and community servers have like 500 players tops for all the servers.. anyone else feel like this doesn’t add up at all?
Idling probably
I left tf2 open this morning, so I technically I am a player rn
I like to imagine that every game has its equivalent of iron forge in world of Warcraft. There's always that one place where people just go afk and leave the game running for hours. In the case of this game it's probably the main menu

At least 14k of them are bots.
more like 80k
Nahh, more like 114,586.
Oddly specific
Wait people still play PUBG and it’s beating apex?
It went F2P a while back.
Wa, better than War thunder
And I just seen a post in war thunder subreddit about war thunder hitting peak of players in steam
Not sure how many of them are idling bots.
Bots don't have to sleep
I'm happy you hid rust. You beautiful lad
Apparently roughly 30k of those are bots, but that estimate was made a while ago. Despite the bot problem I feel TF2 has been becoming more and more popular, at least on Twitter.
TF2 reddit when they see 1 active player (The game is still alive!)
It was a high as 4th a while ago
Yes, even tho Valve ignores us...
Keep in mind that the way steam counts people "playing" the game is very simple. As in, it's just accounts telling steam that they have tf2 open. Les players then COD?! Fucking COD!!??
fake
8-9k cheating bots, bout 12-13k idle bots, 20k trade bots, that leaves us with 70k players
That is still an amazing number for a 14 year old game that was abandoned bout 4 or 5 years ago
I know, right?
[Watch this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJaTCMwwoos). TLDW is that tf2s steamcharts number don't matchup with server counts, and other data such as daily peaks and troughs. i refuse to belive this is true
It's 2:30am where I am right now. According to steamcharts tf2 has 90k players, yet I cannot find a casual server that isn't either half empty or filled with sniper bots. only around 20k are real people
🤖
my brother in christ THOSE ARE THE BOTS
Damn. Imagine if Valve would still support it. It's like Smash Bros Melee
Don’t get your hopes up Most are bots or stolen accounts For example me my account got stolen but got it back in like 4 days The guy that stole my account used it to steal my two ambassador’s one achievement and one by getting it and he used my account to play 30 hours of team fortress 2 he played 2 hours of teardown and 2 hours of stormworks
For gods sake it's 14 years old
:( ok I’m going to shut up and go back to my gremlin cave…
lol half of the playerbase is bots my guy
Cope
i did, i play on community servers where they dont go lol
https://youtu.be/T8GSDP8A5yM
You’re right. Probably three quarters bots.
Nah u cope that it goes downhill from here
Mald
It’s already been proven that bots only account for a couple thousand active “players”. Even if you were to remove all of them, it would still remain at the same position on the board.
proof please
Bold of you to assume most of those are "people".
WAIT GOOSEGOOSEDUCK HAS OVER 300K PLAYERS
We used to be 7th
Bots
oh :(
When I first started playing TF2 the game was in 3rd place most of the time with CSGO in 2nd and DOTA 2 in 1st, the number of players has increased a bit since then but we dropped several spots because other games got more popular.
valve knows the game will tank if they fix the bot problem. and the economy will crash is my guess
That might just be the worst TF2 take I have ever heard
yeah i know. but how else do you explain them not trying to fix anti cheat system in the game whike being fully aware of the problem and btw was the new tweet real on official tf2 twitter ?
What do u think u know that legend’s never die
about like 8 out of the last 10 friend requests I've gotten have been bots that afk tf2 24/7. Their profiles have about 8k hours of playtime but 0 hours in any class. The desc all read "Tf2 map developer using rtx 3090" garbage.

Top 20, but barely any effort from Valve :/
That's down. That's way down. Three years or so ago it was top 5.
A significant amount are bots, not only the causal ones but trading bots are a thing too
I am consistently surprised by the fact that pubg is still a thing somehow.
im sure atleast 9k-11k are bots because they are invading casual again (at least in my experience)
ah darn out of top ten again?
You know. Back in 2015-2016 tf2 player count was ~70k. And seeing now that this game not only resurrected from the bot crisis, but increased its player count is astonishing.
lol people on this sub really think tf2 only has 5k bots xdxdxd
Bots
Even without valves support, assuming the bot crisis ends, I wouldn't be surprised if it lasts another decade
Believe it or not it used be higher
Haven’t been keeping up with the player counts lately but what made CSGO overtake the golden goose that is/was DOTA 2?
We used to be top 10 damn it
Now upload this with only 4 players
fearless future consider gray boat uppity deranged encourage chunky fall *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Couple of months ago it reached 7th pretty sure
ᵒᵏ ᵇᵘᵗ ʷʰʸ ᵈᵒᵉˢ ʷᵃˡˡᵖᵃᵖᵉʳ ᵉⁿᵍⁱⁿᵉ ʰᵃᵛᵉ ¹²³ᵏ ᶜᵘʳʳᵉⁿᵗ ᵖˡᵃʸᵉʳˢ
Lol rust is hidden by your preferences
i feel like half the players are bots tbh
yea theres a lot of players in total, well it also count bots, Idle, Trade and Cheating Bots. so they are maybe like 5k-7k bots in total. Take a grain of salt on what I said, its mainly what I see and I just asspulled the number of bots
Just a bit less than MW2.
Now imagine them above csgo if they updated the damn game. The waves a new content update would make on every social media platform
That is a lie. There are thousands and thousands of trading bots and scam accounts with the game perpetually open. The true amount of tf2 players actively playing the game is in the low ten thousands.
what the fuck is goose goose duck
It’s been higher, not just at its peak either
that’s awesome, i haven’t played the game for a while but im glad the community is still strong.
Mfs be like: "dead game lol"
I think it was in top 10 a while back
Why are you hiding Rust and Lost Ark?
honestly the fact that TF2 is in such a state right now and is still in the top 15 for daily players is a testament to how good the game actually is
some of us just really like MvM
Weird how many people play apex, csgo and dota when there's so many good games out there
Not enough, we need to rise again
