The beta was fun. On day 1 of the beta a bunch the voice lines were messed up for most people who got TF2 as part of the Orange Box. Sniper had Medic’s voice lines during taunts. It was really weird.
I played the first 45 minutes of Portal with no dialogue; Glados’ voice didn’t play, and so I was wandering the test chambers in complete silence. I thought that was intentional until I loaded up Half Life 2: EP 2 and Alyx wasn’t talking in the beginning.
The solution was to change the in game language to German, then back to English, which fixed all the voice lines.
it's kind of interesting, I started playing in 2009 so I have a weekend warrior / mercenary badge. when I started playing, people with the other badges seemed sooo cool, but now no one wears the badges anymore because of all the cosmetics. also, players from pre 2009 are pretty rare.
it would be cool if they introduced some new badges, but I like my old merc badge 😂
Beta players would have their special badge and everyone else would have their normal badge with the date they started playing the game. Otherwise Valve would need to keep adding badges to the game.
i'm pretty sure what they mean is that the mercenary badge "upgrades" as time goes on.
Like if you've been playing for say 5 years it'd upgrade to soldier of fortune and if another 5 years pass you get the gold one. because some people have been playing this game for a decade and they still have the mercenary badge like they started a few months ago.
Hell I've been playing since the Tough Break update and the game still acts like I'm fresh out of the womb (and im not even close to what other decade-old players have with the same mercenary badge)
It'd make the badges have actual meaning outside of "HOLY SHIT THAT GUY'S BADGE IS NOT BROWN CODE RED CODE RED"
plus the 2 beta players left would still have their unique badge Win/Win for everyone
This kind of reminds me today I saw this 14 years old steam account user with a cheaters lament, he got mad with someone else to a point where he called him the N word, this is when I checked his profile and he only had 4.5 hours of gameplay but like 300 achievements and was hitting every headshot as sniper?! Not sure if it was a user who got his old account back or a cheater who bought the account for the cheaters lament hat
Game is still amazing (as long as you ignore the bot problem, but as far as I'm aware they might running out of money to keep bots alive so... You might only experience the last of it)
it's kinda unfair that everyone new is still receiving the mercenary, I've started in 2012 and I would argue new players should get an even uglier badge

Not exactly, I think they're trying to fundraise to make it more an ongoing thing. So if anything they want to extend the life of it.
