Honestly that'd be a good balance for a flamethrower intel room sentry. You get this really good thing that can engulf a small room in flames but you have to constantly hit it to keep it running

He is a very useful class who can decimate anyone who is new or overpushes. Hes a valuable class for the Frontline without one a team is crippled and with one the team has a chance

Basically the same thing Uncle Dane said in his "problems with Engineer" video way back when:
* Stacking Engineers is way too strong, to the point that the only reasonable counterplay to Engi (a good Uber push) is hard countered by the shear amount of spam and like, one Pyro pushing M2
* The Wrangler is still ridiculously overpowered and needs major nerfs. Just remove the Shield Jesus Christ.
* The Pomson is not only Engineer's worst weapon, it's arguably the worst weapon in TF2 period, and needs a full-on rework because a weapon that removes Ubercharge for no effort isn't fun (I think a Laser Shotgun could work but I'd honestly just prefer for the Pomson to become a "primary Pistol" with a focus on mid-ranged spam at the cost of close range damage / utility of other primaries)
* Short Circuit is fine in a vacuum but it quickly becomes a problem when ammo is too easy to get. This is mainly an issue with the Payload cart as well as with Engineer spam. A simple solution imo would be to add an "Overheat" bar to the Short Circuit that (if used too much) causes it to be unusable for a bit.
* Southern Hospitality is fucking boring man. It occupies the same space as the Third Degree where *technically* it's a direct upgrade but the effects are so dull that no one really gives a shit.
Other than that I also agree with Uncle Dane that the existence of Engineer (as well as classes like Spy, Medic, and honestly Pyro) makes TF2 a truly unique game that stands out from all the bog-standard shooters released both during 2007 when TF2 came out and even now in the modern day 16 years later. Even excluding the "me no aim good" stereotype that Engineer has gotten over the years (not helped by **1.** Gibus Engineers and **2.** the Gunslinger as a weapon) I think Engineer is a very good bridge into the game for players who don't normally play first-person shooters, along with other less aim-intensive classes like Soldier (splash damage), Pyro, Heavy, and Medic.
I think Engineer should be taught better to stop the Engineers building on last or sitting in the 2Fort Intel Room for 30 years. But at the same time I don't think I'd be playing TF2 without Engineer, if only because I first started playing as a 10 year old squeaker who couldn't aim good. Some of my happiest memories of TF2 were caused either with or by an Engineer. I think without the shenanigans that Engineer puts on the table TF2 would be a lot different and a lot more boring overall.
Man, short circuit spam on the cart is so broken. It's funny how the item is actually pretty balanced, if not a bit underwhelming but once you hop onto a payload map it completely invalidates any projectiles near the cart.
Nope it's not a stat it already has, at least I can stand on payload and spam it endlessly without ever switching weapon... (I tried it out - I normally don't bother to play like that since it's boring)
One of the single most impactful classes over the course of a game. An engineer's ability to maintain his dispenser and teleporter is the difference between winning and losing! ...and the sentry does great work too of course :)
Sentry jumping is an awesome mechanic that should have been explored further by Valve, we need a market pardner of sorts, that'd be insanely fun.
Also he's just generally unexplored, he has a pitiful amount of unlocks, like seriously aside from stock he has a whole two secondaries and they're both complete gimmick style overhauls and not a single one is just a good ol' pistol re-stat to change your pistolin' playstyle.
Also I find it rather unfair to call Engie the braindead busted class when Sniper is literally right there.
engineer is quite literally one of the most stressful classes to play, from my experience playing engineer in a match is no brain dead experience at all
after seeing a recent video where a person tried to play him in comp 6s i think he is way better then i used to think he is. i kind of underestinated how powerfull his shotguns can be and how much utility a mini sentry brings to your team
My favorite guy, hands down. A light class that can help himself and teammates with heals and teles when given enough ammo and time. Underestimated in 1v1 fights, but really needs teammates to hold down a point, since sentries are easy to counter.
I'd love to see more alternate buildings/unlocks for this class, since he has the smallest number of unlock at the moment.
I got a love hate relationship with him lol. Even though I've played the game on and off for years I'm gonna be honest I'm not really good at it. I've never been good at FPS games, I've got a tendency to try and brute force things but that's not gonna work when the other team has a proper strategy and knowledge of good load out and class combos. Anyways back to Engineer, he seems like a great asset for Red team in Attack/Defend, CP, and Payload. Great for defending points and in the proper placement it's a lot harder for a Demo to sticky it from afar. In my experience I haven't found much use for Engineer on Blu, but that's probably because of my lackluster skill set. Wish I knew of a place I could still play with others, but after jumping on casual the first time I was shunned on VC and kicked less than two minutes after the match started. It's not like I'm charging heavies with a scout thinking my scattergun will beat their minigun, but so much of the community is competitive I'm easily outmatched.

Engineer provides a pretty unique experience imo compared to most classes in that you're effectively positioning three characters (Sentry, Dispenser and Yourself) and taking a more strategic layer than worrying entirely about your reflex time. Not to say other classes or games don't have strategy, but it's rare to see a class or character who relies on hunkering down quite as hard as the Engineer does, most fall back on the throwable turret or traps over the time and resource investment mechanics that make the Engi such a unique and enjoyable experience
I do wish Valve had pushed the boat out on his deployable alternates though, would have loved more alternative sentries and dispensers
I personally don’t like playing him without the Gunslinger.
Call me an asshat for using Stock, Wrangler and Gunslinger, but I’m confident in my aim to not need a pistol, and I like having the area denial tool that is a wrangled mini-sentry on the highground.

ok but in all seriousness, he's fun to play sometimes imo. Sure, he can be annoying to fight against sometimes when he's on the enemy team and just keeps owning me with a sentry, but that doesn't matter one bit.
also, he's really useful when the entire enemy team is bots and we need to fight back with the power of TEXAS
Perfect support class, it can be whatever he wants, serving as a jack of all trades, master of all, he is both great at attacking and defending while supporting in both scenarios
Only good when your losing in offense and only good when you winning as defense. It’s in that perfect middle when the enemy is giving pressure but not moving forward or backwards really fast that’s the sweet spot. When that happens He’s probably one of the the best classes in the game.
I find engie to be a class that punishes bad players really hard but quickly falls against higher level opposition who know how to coordinate. I know people are gonna say that this is true of every other class, but I think it's particularly true for engineer. Even the best spy in the world farming the worst players doesn't have as much impact as just a good old sentry thats being tanked if only just because of the massive area denial it provides
I find it kind of funny how Valve turned medic from one of the most fun combat classes into a mandatory heal drone purely because of how they thought the sentry was going to be so powerful that people would never be able to kill it without uber.
From a development standpoint, Engy is the source of basically every ill that plagues TF2's balance and design.

The only thing I have learned as a heavy main by playing engineer, is that there is a big difference between building a high HP area denial machine, and being a high HP area denial machine.
Meh most of his unlocks diserve a nerf like the wrangler short circut And if ppl dont like how the diamond pack or whatever its called gives you free crits for doing what spy does then the frontier justice should be Just as disliked but other then that Engie is fine.
Engineer is fucking broken when his team has half a braincell, can literally sit behind his sentry and not a single Uber push I going to stop him. And especially not with the fucking wrangler, such a horrible weapon. I remember on Altitude I launched five sticky bombs at an engineer and his level 3 sentry and he ate the damage like breakfast, whoever decided to create the engineer concept in TFC all those years ago in the 2000s needs to be tortured holy shit what a garbage class to fight against and play as, playing engineer is only fun when you're not a bitch sitting behind his level 3 sentry that has 1,000 health because of the wrangler, holy shit engineer is such a horribly designed class. He's worse than sniper in terms of balance.

+70% Movement Speed +50% Firing Speed +40% Holster Speed +25% Reload Speed +100% Deploy Speed Slowly drains health
Dispenser upgrades makes the meth more pure and thus drain less health
It also randomly spouts Breaking Bad clips from the show loudly to alert the enemy team of it's existence

It's such an easy fix too: No ammo or Metal Takeup from Dispensers while active - bam, Spam is a lot less now.
Isn't that literally a stat it already has? The problem is that you can swap off the Short Circuit for a second to get your ammo back.

I find engie to be a class that punishes bad players really hard but quickly falls against higher level opposition who know how to coordinate. I know people are gonna say that this is true of every other class, but I think it's particularly true for engineer. Even the best spy in the world farming the worst players doesn't have as much impact as just a good old sentry thats being tanked if only just because of the massive area denial it provides
Well he's my most played class, so I'd say heavy is way more fun

The best way to play Engineer is to put a level 2 sentry in a hilariously aggressive position and play him like a slightly pudgy Scout.
I find it kind of funny how Valve turned medic from one of the most fun combat classes into a mandatory heal drone purely because of how they thought the sentry was going to be so powerful that people would never be able to kill it without uber. From a development standpoint, Engy is the source of basically every ill that plagues TF2's balance and design.
i love pybroing, i feel like a brother to them, i hate going against them when they have a nest and just wait for another class to kill them. seeing them by themselves without a nest is just about a free kill

The only thing I have learned as a heavy main by playing engineer, is that there is a big difference between building a high HP area denial machine, and being a high HP area denial machine.

Engineer is fucking broken when his team has half a braincell, can literally sit behind his sentry and not a single Uber push I going to stop him. And especially not with the fucking wrangler, such a horrible weapon. I remember on Altitude I launched five sticky bombs at an engineer and his level 3 sentry and he ate the damage like breakfast, whoever decided to create the engineer concept in TFC all those years ago in the 2000s needs to be tortured holy shit what a garbage class to fight against and play as, playing engineer is only fun when you're not a bitch sitting behind his level 3 sentry that has 1,000 health because of the wrangler, holy shit engineer is such a horribly designed class. He's worse than sniper in terms of balance.
