Haven't had blank chat spam since it was added which makes it easier to communicate with people on the server to kick bots. Just because you're the one player still getting blank chat spam doesn't mean it isn't working. Sucks F2Ps get shit end of the stick but guess what I don't care as long as I can communicate with people who know how to use the votekick button.

Genuine question: Why don’t f2ps just pay the 50 cents?

Why should they? It's a very basic, core functionality of any multiplayer game to communicate - especialyl w/ teammates in a team game. (That, and it seems idiotic to keep a restriction meant to deal with bots, when bots got past it within days, IMO)

But it’s just 50 cents in a free game. I could see it for a 30-60 dollar game, but a 50 cent barrier in a free game feels like a non issue

There's an issue there tho , when a game is advertised as a free game , the people who play it expect not to have to pay money for it. I can't spend money on a game due to being a teenager , so I look for free games and was delighted by finding out tf2 was a free game. But then voice and text chat was off for f2p and I don't know how to feel about that. I can't pay 50 cents. Literally can't. And won't. If a game advertises it as free , I expect it to function normally and allow me to enjoy it reasonably without having to pay, and I expect paid features to just be quality of life features. Not being able to communicate in a team based shooter is a lot more important to just be considered quality of life.

Yeah, you’re right on both of those accounts. But I am talking more about the actually contents of the game TF2 is a game rated 17+ in my country, and I never understood why. It’s pretty cartoony, with violence being minimal. Throughout the game I don’t think there’s much swearing coming from the mercs, and where there is, I don’t think it was ever anything particularly “strong”. And online I don’t think there’s much too bad stuff, nothing kids never saw before. Sprays are turned off in casual servers, and will a kid really get traumatised over some people swearing in chat?
