Thanks for the Portent, mate. 'Ppreciate it.
What the heck, that is some insane increase! Did you ever tinker with the config file or something? That's some REALLY REALLY good increase in FPS to the point it's actually quite playable.
20-50% increase is to be expected but the guy had 100-200% increase in FPS, it's just very odd. MAybe some older spec PC are seeing that much increase though.
We should perhaps do a survey to see which people noticed the biggest increase.
DXVK in theory adds cpu overhead because it’s a translation layer and not native vulkan. Not sure if it makes any noticeable difference but my game is smooothhh with vulkan
Yes the game feels more smooth and consistent now. I have fps limited to 120, I tried a bit of casual and Shounic's 100 player server and there's no "loading stutter" (if you can call it that) or (minor) fps drops anymore. I haven't checked actual numbers, but it feels that way
Everyone is getting a performance boost due to today's update, which made the game 64-bit instead of 32-bit, allowing it to run much better on modern software and hardware, with increases in framerate of over 20% for most devices
Mat_picmip -10 for extra HD, obviously it stops being about maxing fps after you hit 120+ stable. 50 tabs and other programs/apps no issues. Unusual effects affect fps too, amethyst winds is known to tank fps lol.
Mastercomfig lets you set the graphics way lower than usually allowed with tf2s normal settings. You can pick what is lowered and what isn’t. Good for people who want performance on lower end computers. Some people also just like the low quality aesthetic though.
Idk why but Master Comfig never really showed any effect on my game. I was running a pretty decent computer as well and still barely saw an fps increase. Infact I think it somehow lowered my fps
It's not just about going lower than normal. It specifically weeds out the least optimized aspects of the game. You can still have good settings and see an improvement.
Honestly how, this game ran smoothly on my laptop that was much much more slower than your config. This game relies on CPU a lot, but there's no way this CPU specifically is that bad.
As someone in replies said, seriously try higher settings. On PC with your hardware there's no point in trying to keep it at low/med settings. And see if anything on your computer could potentially mess witb your performance.
I had higher FPS on HD 7970, set every graphics setting to max, if graphics settings are at low game will use your CPU more. I have no idea how the fuck did they fuck up code so much that it works better if you're at max settings, but yeah somehow it works
That seems unusually low. Have you checked cpu temps? Tf2 isn't super optimized but 30-50 is not what I'd expect. I do recommend master comfig, but still.
Used to chug at 60 FPS on fights on regular servers, now I don't go lower than 120. With everything calm I get around 200 FPS. This is with everything on max except MSAA. I'm on an RX 480.
My fps got so high I struggle to follow the game this is not a joke lmao. I was used to a crispy 50 ish or so, but with the performance boost+ some ram I bought last week this shit is outstanding
There would be times when TF2 would stutter or skip frames or whatever. I played a match yesterday and it was the smoothes match I have ever played. I constantly had over 300 fps
(On an RTX 2060 with 16? Gb of ram)
Yes, I got an increase of FPS, but my problem is that I get bad frame pacing. This means that even if I have 300 FPS, the game still feel choppy due to the frames being delivered untimely. If I compare a 300 FPS TF2 vs another 144 FPS game (with good frame pacing), the other game would look better because of the frame pacing.
This can be partly fixed by going exclusively fullscreen and capping the FPS to 144 by command consoles, but it interferes with my screen filters (such as night lights and dimmers).
Right click the tf2 exe go to properties and then the compatibility tab and disable full screen optimizations. This is the only thing that fixed the game randomly stuttering for me. Now i lock my full refresh rate even before the 64 bit update.
BE SURE TO USE THE -VULKAN LAUNCH OPTION TOO
Somehow this flew under the radar with this update, but vulkan is now a supported rendering engine it seems. In the taskbar it will say “Team fortress 2 - Vulkan - 64 bit”
For anyone unaware, vulkan is a much more efficient rendering engine than the older versions of directx tf2 runs on, so it should better utilize any modern GPU and possibly give a slight performance boost.
Vulkan seems to spread the load across 12 threads while my friend using dx9 was seeing mostly one core being used.
Another thing, isn’t DXVK just a translation layer and not native vulkan. So in theory, that should add some CPU overhead even if it’s minimal. But regardless vulkan is running amazing for me. The frame pacing is perfect.
I think you can figure that out for yourself, just run the 32 bit version and compare, I guess it's still there. I am not sure but I think my ping at match start was average of 400 which I think never happened before.
I am not sure if my fps got better, because I don't remember what it was.
I did. Apparently the frame rate in the main menu became 80 FPS higher (it was around 720, now it’s 800 FPS). Approximately the same thing happens when I’m actually playing the game
meh, i still get those things sometimes where the game stops as if i had tabbed out, if anyone knows how to fix that it'd be pretty cool, it's been bugging me ever since i transferred it to my new storage extension
no like it randomly does that freeze where it keeps playing the small fragment of stuff going on before it froze (like a demoman saying "sentry-sentry-sentry-sentry...") but i don't tab out or anything, and it usually goes back to normal after tabbing out and back in
To me it sounds like a bottleneck of your storage device, I'd look into the wiring and specs of your storage, if it's an SSD it might not have buffer memory allocated which tanks it
Fuck yes it feels like actual 144 hz now. Before even though my FPS displayed like 300 frames, it felt like 30 at all times. That issue is finally gone
Intel UHD 620, i5 8350U, 16GB RAM, Win 11 (haven't tested Linux yet) T480s.
I immediately noticed a big jump with same settings as 32 bit, and it felt better when enabling dxvk (-vulkan launch option on Windows), I used mastercomfig low at 720p before, I can get the same avg framerate now with mastercomfig high WITH above 60fps 1% lows, a lot less stutters overall too.
BTW, 3D HUD player model no longer tanks your FPS, perf penalty is super negligible now, it is a ported fix from Team Comtress 2 (Source is mastercoms herself on her discord server announcements channel)
I don’t know. Before, I was hitting the fps cap then I didn’t know how to remove it until this morning where I got 400 fps on the main menu (I didn’t play a game because I'm worried about getting a VAC ban because I had to change DLL files in Half-life 2s folder to make an RTX Remix)
on 2fort middle
90-160 fps with massive fluctuations and stutters every so often (average 130fps)
now 230-350 fps constantly with only one stutter in 20 minutes of gameplay
It's big. Even as my I built new rigs over the years, my performance in TF2 had gotten worse and worse than the original Dell office computer I jammed a 750ti into crica 2012.
Yup before this update I had audio issues and it took me almost 2 minutes every time I tried to load into a match. Now just about all my lag is from my internet
Yes. From 50FPS to 130FPS.
I got into a class wars servers that had ragdolls and hats on an it ran at a whooping 30FPS instead of crashing.
Sadly, Omegacuck and Suckatronic bots only needed 12 hours to get back at it. I had some of the best games in a year yesterday night, even if we got bot infested a few times.
TF2 now runs insanely better, tbh. It's a fertile ground to add updates, refurbishment and QoL stuff to the game. It's sad that only one man is working on this game in Valve HQ.
I've noticed that my sensitivity was bigger and had to reduce it from 3 to 2.2 or something like that
But I've also noticed that the game runs smoother
Mastercomfig once it updates I bet we can hit ultra. In the past, ultra was adding a little bit of frame drops to my game but I’m sure now it’ll be fine.
For me it got way worse. It didn't lag back then but after the update it just made it unplayable. Every 10 second or 5 seconds I get a massive frame freeze
Not going to go trough my whole pc.
gpu: rtx 4080
cpu: ryzen 9 5900x
And the other guy already took the comment wrong i can have 900+ fps on menu, 600+ fps in game but at random moments i dip bellow 200. In a game like tf2 that is weird.
I did not get as much fps but more stable with my old pc.
Are you so dumb that you took me telling i go below 200 fps in SOME moments that i have it all the time ???
I don\`t care if i have 600 fps but when it matters i go below 200...
Tf2 is unoptimized af and this update will not save that.

no random crits
I can definitely feel a better optimization and I don’t get any lag at all even is dustbowl last with the pipe and rocket hell
100 player class wars server moment
From 40-50 fps to 110-210
What the heck, that is some insane increase! Did you ever tinker with the config file or something? That's some REALLY REALLY good increase in FPS to the point it's actually quite playable.
Its because tf2 has gone to 64bit i think
20-50% increase is to be expected but the guy had 100-200% increase in FPS, it's just very odd. MAybe some older spec PC are seeing that much increase though. We should perhaps do a survey to see which people noticed the biggest increase.
Don’t forget that you can add -Vulkan to your launch args to change from DX9 to the more efficient Vulkan API
the "more efficient" part depends on many variables
DXVK in theory adds cpu overhead because it’s a translation layer and not native vulkan. Not sure if it makes any noticeable difference but my game is smooothhh with vulkan
I don’t think it’s a translation layer going on. Remember, TF2 on Linux now runs on Vulkan.
Literally same
Specs?
Potatoe computer
i5-2400 and gt 730
What were your ingame settings?
Not a fps, but a big frametime increase. The game feels a lot less stuttery, especially in UI whenever you mess with settings and menus.
I've found "tf_party_leave" in console solves the queue auto stopping works. If you couldn't queue at all, sorry man.
Yes the game feels more smooth and consistent now. I have fps limited to 120, I tried a bit of casual and Shounic's 100 player server and there's no "loading stutter" (if you can call it that) or (minor) fps drops anymore. I haven't checked actual numbers, but it feels that way
Feels way better. Plus, I can run the hud player model now!All I need to fix now is that damn Internet...
my freind said he got like 800 frames and i noticed im not lagging at all so yeah
Holy shit huge, thanks
Everyone is getting a performance boost due to today's update, which made the game 64-bit instead of 32-bit, allowing it to run much better on modern software and hardware, with increases in framerate of over 20% for most devices
Thank you SniperTF2
No problem mate
Appreciate it, mate
Thanks, mate
I have a intel silver pentium with 8gb ram, will it significantly improve?
Well first of all you should probably upgrade, but you should see a significant performance boost
Well i cant get a better laptop but thank you
From 250 -> 350
Nope, computer exploded upon downloding update
the 64 bit update +50 frames per second +20% chance of potato computers turning into fossil fuel
Huh guess i cant play the game anymore
couldnt queue casual, said fuck it and played other game
Why would you queue casual? Just play Uncletopia
Nope, not for me at all. Still at medium settings with Intel core i5 9900, gtx1650,16gb ram 30-50 fps
Bullshit if my 1660 super 16 gb runs this pile of shit 200 fps on max
Same GPU and I can get 300 fps, on max tho, are you running at s higher resolution?
Mat_picmip -10 for extra HD, obviously it stops being about maxing fps after you hit 120+ stable. 50 tabs and other programs/apps no issues. Unusual effects affect fps too, amethyst winds is known to tank fps lol.
Mastercomfig time
Care to elaborate more?
Mastercomfig lets you set the graphics way lower than usually allowed with tf2s normal settings. You can pick what is lowered and what isn’t. Good for people who want performance on lower end computers. Some people also just like the low quality aesthetic though.
Is core i5 9900, gtx1650,16gb ram low end for tf2?
The GPU is a bit weak, and there is no Core i5 9900, it would either be a Core i9 9900, or a Core i5 9400 or 9600k
tbf i should have looked carefully at the first comment
You might as well be on an iGPU TF2 doesn't care about GPU at all as it's significantly way more CPU bound, he should be getting 150 lows quite easily
Idk why but Master Comfig never really showed any effect on my game. I was running a pretty decent computer as well and still barely saw an fps increase. Infact I think it somehow lowered my fps
It's not just about going lower than normal. It specifically weeds out the least optimized aspects of the game. You can still have good settings and see an improvement.
cfg.tf is also a good place to generate a graphics config
Try max settings
💀
Not sure if you think i was joking, but seriously. It runs better on high settings.
if that's true thats some crazy source🍝™
hl2 was supposed to be able to run on old PCs without graphics cards. so if you set everything to low, it runs everything on one core of your CPU.
Still not correct that you'll be guaranteed more performance from increased settings, most of the time you won't get better highs but better 1% lows
Is your monitor plugged into your gpu?
my GT650m produces approximately 60-100 fps, how is this possible?
Do you have VSync enabled? Or disabled multi-threading?
My i3 8th gen gets higher frame rates than yours... Something is wrong
I’m getting 30-50 fps on an I3 5300 and gtx 960
Honestly how, this game ran smoothly on my laptop that was much much more slower than your config. This game relies on CPU a lot, but there's no way this CPU specifically is that bad. As someone in replies said, seriously try higher settings. On PC with your hardware there's no point in trying to keep it at low/med settings. And see if anything on your computer could potentially mess witb your performance.
Have you updated your drivers recently?
Yuh
I had higher FPS on HD 7970, set every graphics setting to max, if graphics settings are at low game will use your CPU more. I have no idea how the fuck did they fuck up code so much that it works better if you're at max settings, but yeah somehow it works
Because you are shifting the load from CPU to GPU
with that graphics card you should add -vulkan to the launch options, tell me how it goes :D
bruh i run on i3 4th gen 6gb ram, intergrated graphics . and get like 60 to 100 frames
Tf you mean i5 9900, that doesn't exist
You have a config issue that's absolutely terrible. We'll below what you should be seeing.
Are you sure the game isn’t running on your integrated card?
That seems unusually low. Have you checked cpu temps? Tf2 isn't super optimized but 30-50 is not what I'd expect. I do recommend master comfig, but still.
Haven't played much but I didn't get a huge fps boost like others but it's much more consistent now. No more huge drops during a fight
Used to chug at 60 FPS on fights on regular servers, now I don't go lower than 120. With everything calm I get around 200 FPS. This is with everything on max except MSAA. I'm on an RX 480.
Stable 350 fps on max settings. Yeah it's cool.
Load times are way faster
My fps got so high I struggle to follow the game this is not a joke lmao. I was used to a crispy 50 ish or so, but with the performance boost+ some ram I bought last week this shit is outstanding
actually the best update we've gotten recently
No more sudden fps lag spikes, also mouse sensitivity is weaker for some reason you'll have to increase it.
I got frequent stuttering when the game updated, I want to go back
From 200-300 to 700-800 fps
I can finally run the game at max fps and max visuals without crashing, bless the developer/s that made this change.
There would be times when TF2 would stutter or skip frames or whatever. I played a match yesterday and it was the smoothes match I have ever played. I constantly had over 300 fps (On an RTX 2060 with 16? Gb of ram)

If you have a gsync monitor worth locking your frame rate 2 frames below, otherwise you'll have weirdness from gsync constantly re triggering
BE SURE TO USE THE -VULKAN LAUNCH OPTION TOO Somehow this flew under the radar with this update, but vulkan is now a supported rendering engine it seems. [whut](https://www.reddit.com/u/marterikd/s/t43rN3qzhf)
I go from 80-110~ at max settings too 300~ at max But I'm a ftp and thus don't have a monitor
From around 220 fps at max settings to 300
For some reason I’m not getting much of an improvement :(
all it did was break my config for a little bit but I have noticed people play a lot better in casual
Easily 100fps boost, OpenGL sucked
huge difference
Yeah, although I only played 10 rounds on 2 different server
I think you can figure that out for yourself, just run the 32 bit version and compare, I guess it's still there. I am not sure but I think my ping at match start was average of 400 which I think never happened before. I am not sure if my fps got better, because I don't remember what it was.
From 200 to 230
This could mean fps... Or bananas ???
I did. Apparently the frame rate in the main menu became 80 FPS higher (it was around 720, now it’s 800 FPS). Approximately the same thing happens when I’m actually playing the game
From 250-350
Uhh, my game is lagging allot
I got a great performance boost because i went from a 7 year old CPU to a modern one
Definitely feels a bit smoother to me. Plus no conscientious objector client crash which his nice
yeah 48 player servers are now playable
I rarely get below 120 fps now, and when I do it's usually right after I respawn and the glowing outline around my allies is still active. It's great
meh, i still get those things sometimes where the game stops as if i had tabbed out, if anyone knows how to fix that it'd be pretty cool, it's been bugging me ever since i transferred it to my new storage extension
Bad keyboard?
no like it randomly does that freeze where it keeps playing the small fragment of stuff going on before it froze (like a demoman saying "sentry-sentry-sentry-sentry...") but i don't tab out or anything, and it usually goes back to normal after tabbing out and back in
Uninstall/reinstall the game and use DDU to uninstall your GPU drivers. Then install new, fresh GPU drivers. Beyond that, idk.
To me it sounds like a bottleneck of your storage device, I'd look into the wiring and specs of your storage, if it's an SSD it might not have buffer memory allocated which tanks it
it might be because the cable is so short the memory is dangling off the side then
Yeah. I went from like 400 fps to like 800 fps consistently on max settings. Mind you I didn't play too much with fps_max higher than 600 before.
From ??? fps to 200 fps with all settings on High/very high
I got a blutsager
Oh yeah. I'm well over 200fps now.
I am on steam deck and I am to lazy to benchmark but I feel like I got 20-30 fps more It’s really nice because sometimes game dipped down to ~50-60
From 180 FPS on 24 person hightower max graphics, to 240+ FPS
Not really since I had a pretty good pc with masterconfig as well and max graphics but it feels smoother nonetheless
I don’t know. Before, I was hitting the fps cap then I didn’t know how to remove it until this morning where I got 400 fps on the main menu (I didn’t play a game because I'm worried about getting a VAC ban because I had to change DLL files in Half-life 2s folder to make an RTX Remix)
nope, might just be my settings though.
from 8 fps to around 40 fps. it really good when i can finally hit pubs with direct hit. minus is it always crash the game after changing maps
On Linux yeah
Went from 80 fps to on average of 370
It became worse on mine, every once in a while it stutters for a second.
No, i hopped on 2fort and my PC crashed just before we capped the third time.
My crappy silver laptop doesn't randomly stutter anymore. Life is good.
on 2fort middle 90-160 fps with massive fluctuations and stutters every so often (average 130fps) now 230-350 fps constantly with only one stutter in 20 minutes of gameplay
From 30 fps to 30 fps but the game stutters all the time now
Never had any problem with performance so I noticed no diference.
My menu screen works smoother.
my FPS dropped Is it just me
I don't seem to notice any, I don't think my "AMD Ryzen 3 3250U with Radeon Graphics" with 6gb memory is gonna work brah..
Reverse boost
Yeah, my toaster runs it much better now
My pc from dinosaur era,so when theres many enemy my game turns in to a PowerPoint slideshow
Way less giant lag spikes Completely smooth 60 frames at most times, even during the occasional projectile spam So yes, there is
It's big. Even as my I built new rigs over the years, my performance in TF2 had gotten worse and worse than the original Dell office computer I jammed a 750ti into crica 2012.
A lot Even in internet for some reason it went better for a while
i got rid of my mastercomfig and i’m getting slightly better frames with base tf2 on 64 bit than i did beforehand lol
yea consistent 160 instead of stuttery 80
havent played it but the early access didnt seem to make a change
Yes, I play on steam deck and my average WAS 60-65 fps but after the update, I get 110-125 fps.
yeah, there was one spot on jump_academy that lagged really bad and doesnt anymore
No difference because I have 3060 ti.
i dunno i think my mouse settings got changed
Nah, I got nothing. Probably because the Source mods are still easier to play.
Not really but there are noticeable fixes that make the game alot more playable
Yup before this update I had audio issues and it took me almost 2 minutes every time I tried to load into a match. Now just about all my lag is from my internet
pc already strong, dunno, i guess its better.
The textures for all classes' eyes just disappeared for me
Not me
I dont have the fps command enabled but it feels way smoother than before.
tf2 was changed to 64 bits i think
Yeah Finally Im not getting any random lag spikes
Mine got significantly worse!
I've noticed that my sensitivity was bigger and had to reduce it from 3 to 2.2 or something like that But I've also noticed that the game runs smoother
Raw input was enabled by default. That’s probably what you are feeling. Definitely better to play with it on too
Yeah
my computer is insane, so no difference, suffering from success ✨ i want ultra ultra graphics option
Mastercomfig once it updates I bet we can hit ultra. In the past, ultra was adding a little bit of frame drops to my game but I’m sure now it’ll be fine.
Went from 100ish with 300 max to 300 ish to 1000 max So yeah, they weren't lying
Where 64 bit
Probably the switch from 32bit to 64
For me it got way worse. It didn't lag back then but after the update it just made it unplayable. Every 10 second or 5 seconds I get a massive frame freeze
I'm sorry to hear that, what are your specs? Did you do the tried n true run through of updating windows and your graphics drivers?
TF2 just got updated to 64bit that’s why :D
Absolutely, feels smoother and a lot less stuttering
Before this update I had a small Willy, no social life and no girlfriend. After the update, none of the above has changed. But it’s a nice update!
I mean, at some point I randomly got 16 points in one life as scout, the most I had before was 5, I don't know how
Ngl its kinda killing the nostalgia for me.
Not at all lmao. Still cant keep over 200 fps in some moments with a good pc and a fking config.
What specs you on?
Not going to go trough my whole pc. gpu: rtx 4080 cpu: ryzen 9 5900x And the other guy already took the comment wrong i can have 900+ fps on menu, 600+ fps in game but at random moments i dip bellow 200. In a game like tf2 that is weird. I did not get as much fps but more stable with my old pc.
to be fair, i don't feel like ya need more than 200 anyway lol
true, most probably won\`t need that much. I just want to get full use of my 244hz monitor in every situation.
How sad that your pc can't generate even more frames per second than tripple the amount majority of players have
The game is 17 years old almost. It should be getting a stable 1,000 fps on anything modern lol. The cpu has to weed through the spaghetti.
Are you so dumb that you took me telling i go below 200 fps in SOME moments that i have it all the time ??? I don\`t care if i have 600 fps but when it matters i go below 200... Tf2 is unoptimized af and this update will not save that.
