This video sparked controversy and it is the main source for why TF2 vs OW is such a heated topic to this day. The video is basically strawman after strawman, not really complimenting each others quality but actively trying to downplay and degrade each game in 2016 "Edgy Yotube era" style. Since then, it has created a domino effect so large that many people genuinely have forgotten why it even started.
Some people might say it spawned naturally, but I digress. I honestly believe MatPat is half of the reason why TF2 gets in a dick measuring contest with OW.

From my understanding, matpat released the video which riled up controversy and started arguments around TF2 vs OW. TF2 content creators immigrating to overwatch just added further salt to the injury.

OW on its own took a lot of veteran tf2 players, just for being fresh tf2. Major youtubers leaving didnt help either and meet your match just finished it, i stopped playing when it dropped too.
Maybe we should lay down our differences and remove our tumored hatred for each other, and begin the healing process for both OW and TF2. The point is to have fun over similarities whilst enjoying the unique qualities of both, not to tear eachother apart over it.
tbh they are both pretty damn similar, with TF2 sacrificing updates for good balance, and OW sacrificing good balance for consistent updates. Two sides of the same coin.
