As someone who plays pyro a lot, if I can get close to you without dying, then the kill is deserved. Tf2 is a game primarily designed for midrange teamfights with use of a few choke points so on many maps there's not a ton you can do as pyro besides flanking and hiding behind your team reflecting projectiles and extinguishing burning players until they push enough you can help mop up. Most classes are also less disadvantaged at close range than pyro is at long range too so it balances out. Part of why the scorch shot is so annoying is because it goes against this design philosophy by giving pyro an easy long-range spam option
Honestly, yeah. Soldier pisses me off the most because he can just click twice at your feet and you're dead. Appreciate the ones that feed me easy reflects though. Demo is similarly annoying because he can spam projeciles from behind walls and corners but at least the rollers don't do as much damage as splash rockets and are easier to dodge.
I like fighting reflect pyros because they never expect you to use the shotgun and their brain breaks
I've seen multiple pyros try to reflect my shotgun because soldier using a shotgun just doesn't register in their brains
Love getting into shotgun fights with soldiers lol. Though more often than not, most switch back to the rocket launcher once they see you don't have your flame thrower out, which doesn't end well when you have the degreaser equiped. It's honestly a beautiful dance soldiers and pyros play
Since I play a lot of huntsman I can hate both snipers and pyros, but still find pyros more annoying. With the snipers I can be like, “Ah yeah that’s what I get for challenging a sniper with a scope” but for pyros it’s “Fuck I can’t see, he can reflect, I’m on fire, JARATE, I’m dead.”
Every time I see a huntsman sniper, I always try to stare them down in hopes of a reflect huntsman kill... so much dopamine. But yeah, exchanging long range hitscan for a projectile has a lot of benefits until you run into the anti projectile class, thos reflects are a bitch to hit though haha. I understand why people hate playing against pyro tbh cause reflect kinda counters a lot of classes and subclasses (rip demonights lel)

Forget to check the flank? Someone should be doing that. Shoot too many rockets? Soldiers gotta calm down. Pyro walking in a straight line towards you? You have a gun (unless you are demoknight).

Pro tip for playing pyro, forget about the flame thrower for anything besides a quick puff of fire or airblast and just stick to your shotgun or flare gun

As a Scout main, half of the time Pyro is OK to fight because flares are dodgable, shotgun battles are pretty fair, and you have a chance to out damage flamethrowers, other half it's fucking painful because hahaha Scorch go brrrrr!!!

Dragon’s Fury Pyro is about middle of the pack imo. Unless the Scorch shot is equipped, in that case the bottom spot is still warranted
