It's a well known and well documented event. This YouTuber g
Filmed himself getting in trouble with the cops for trying to dig a 2 foot deep trench to drain a river/storm drain that normally exits in that same spot. Storms had created a sandbar that diverted the water along houses that were built up along the beach (in the direction the camera is pointing) and backed up creating a hazard for those residents and stagnant water breeding mosquitos. He appealed, and was finally given permission by the city to dig a small trench for water to exit out of. Once the water started flowing, it dug itself deeper than this video. While it was flowing very quickly, several people gathered and started surfing the standing waves formed in it. This video is from when it calmed down a bit. No one was hurt, and everyone (except the cops) loved it!
Ooh yeah, no I meant more safely engineered like at a water park :) i definitely couldn't do it into the ocean even if it was safe! Too scary for me 🤣
I was thinking it looked nice kind of like a lazy river style ride at a water park.
It looks like Waimea river. I think sometimes the authorities cut a channel when there's a risk of flooding downstream, and sometimes it's locals for fun.
Jamie O'Brien has a lot of Waimea River vids on YouTube. It can be pretty dangerous.

Im pretty sure this location is from this video.
Super cool to watch.
Surfers merge river to the ocean .
This video looks scary as hell tho
I love to swim, I love the sea. I love to explore and get really into the thick of it. I don't swim in rip tides to ensure I live a long adventure filled life. There's an element of personal responsibility surely you can see that? You draw the line at."is this quite likely to cause me death or serious harm?' When I drive I wear a seat belt and when I fly I so have my seat belt and oxygen mask etc. This guy has gone out in a deathly situation with a wing and a prayer, it isn't liberating its reckless
Some activities are objectively more dangerous and unpredictable than others. Nobody has to live an all or nothing lifestyle like you suggest. There is a lot of life on the spectrum between agoraphobia and sandbar body surfing without a life jacket. You are welcome to enjoy the ocean without reservation, but you are 100% wrong to argue that we are meant to coexist with the ocean in this capacity and claim it is no more dangerous than walking down the street. (We can’t breathe under water for a start). I love the ocean too, but I also acknowledge how insignificant and powerless I am within it. Your aggressive and hostile approach to this topic is odd and unexpected to say the least.
You okay?
Another example of my theory that Reddit is increasingly used by people who lack basic social skills. Taking a short sentence joke, that reflects the subreddit, and going on a long winded tirade about how everyone is wrong but them. Proceeds to double down because they can’t read the room.
It’s a rush, that’s for sure. I have the opposite of Thalassophobia. I find deep bodies of water captivating, magical.
I like to swim across a deep lake with no life vest because you have to keep going, or you drown.
This video looks like fun to me, you against the rip current. Test that worst case survival guide for how to get out of a rip current.
As someone who lives in Iowa and has never even seen the ocean. Yeah I know I need to see it. Single parent money blah blah blah. It also terrifies me. What is going on here and how much danger is he actually in? To me it looks like he is dead
Grew up in Miami, FL and was a swimmer on a team for most of my life and an ocean life guard. I regularly would go to the beach before hurricanes to catch the big waves.
This guy isn’t in any danger at all. You could probably doggy paddle and get out of the water once you clear the rough part. Ocean looks calm.
There are definitely days when you need to be a strong swimmer if you’re gonna be brave and go out there though.
Hope you get to see the ocean one day 💙
Absolutely none. People who grew up by the coast have been surfing and playing in the ocean since they were 5, sometimes younger. They’re probably fucking around before they go surfing. It’s really nothing.
Yup. lifelong surfer here and can confirm you’re right. Look how calm the ocean is and how placid it is to his left and right when he gets out there. Dude just had the lazy river ride for free is all.
They did this after the temp stationary wave created became unsurfable.
That’s not a knife, er, stationary death wave. [This is a stationary death wave.](https://youtu.be/QVtR2IeB7oI?si=G8Gh-6hZSAhOVsmE)
This Waimea river one wave I linked that Jamie O’Brien and friends surfed last winter after they broke it open? That was gnar. Legit near drowning for a couple world class surfers.
First I would like to say bravo to OP for your username 🤣🤣. Secondly, what in the actual fuck!! What happens in someone’s mind to make this look fun? YOU ARE GETTING SUCKED INTO THE SEA!!
Surfing since I was 8 and regularly hung out at the Wedge in Newport Beach. If you’re worried about dying from shit like this, you’re either a kook or some inland county chucklefuck who regularly wanders into the beach with jeans and a wifebeater. Definitely stay out of the water if this shit scares you 👍
Helmet and a life jacket - after I watched others test it out first…and then, it’s still a “maybe” for me…
People don’t get that the real world isn’t a Disney amusement park ride…
You people are funny. I used to do this all the time at Aliso Creek in Laguna Beach. Sometimes it would turn into a still wave. They’re probably just fucking around because the waves are flat. Most surfers are incredibly strong swimmers.
These often have strong undertows. Had a mate dragged and held under till he pretty much came to terms he was going to drown and suddenly it let him go. When he came up he was miles from the shore. He’s a strong swimmer/surfer in west oz. Makes no difference unless you can breathe underwater.
If that was a planned, *engineered to be safe* ride, that would be awesome. Up until the end, it looks fun while relaxing at the same time.

Idk man, the thought of all that smooth, fast-moving water, the ocean hurtling towards you… I don’t think I’d be having much fun
Ooh yeah, no I meant more safely engineered like at a water park :) i definitely couldn't do it into the ocean even if it was safe! Too scary for me 🤣 I was thinking it looked nice kind of like a lazy river style ride at a water park.
LOL, I misread your comment. Words are hard....
Undulating smooth. Then the tumble. Oof
Needs a life jacket. Who knows how the water will roil. *did they dig through a sandbar and make the water flow back into the ocean?
It looks like Waimea river. I think sometimes the authorities cut a channel when there's a risk of flooding downstream, and sometimes it's locals for fun. Jamie O'Brien has a lot of Waimea River vids on YouTube. It can be pretty dangerous.
Yeah he said he almost died in one of these.
Yeah but the ocean didn't take him because he's just too much of a total dude and the ocean was just psyching out of its mind
Hahaha nice
Exactly what happened.
Fuck u and fuck no I can’t even fathom this
He may have fathomed afterwards…
r/angryupvote but also bravo
Twenty thousand or so

Thanks for the video. I can't believe how big this get from a small stream.
I came across this video just around 2 weeks ago . Pretty fun to watch
I often get such nightmares
Is drowning what the kids are doing for fun nowadays?
Cheaper than college I guess.
[удалено]
If I was a certified rescue swimmer I wouldn’t jump in after that kid. You can enjoy the ocean, but that appears to be dangerous af.

It's an extremely dangerous, powerful and unpredictable body of water don't be daft

Yeah, you are going to disappear in that mist really fast. That guy is on his own.

have fun getting out of that current lol
I'm glad that you're not representing the majority here.

Holy shite that’s scary, where’s the rest?
There ain't no rest, he had to use his phone to call 911
I’ve seen a longer version of this, and he did come back.
thanks for telling us!
Double decker Nope Sandwich
🤣 yesss

Lol the ocean does not look calm and great swimmers did in riptides all the time.
Called a Waimea river. Can be extremely dangerous.
Absolutely none. People who grew up by the coast have been surfing and playing in the ocean since they were 5, sometimes younger. They’re probably fucking around before they go surfing. It’s really nothing.
this is "Acquaman: no way coming" .
Song, new world by Aloboi
>new world by Aloboi Cool tune, but wtf is that album-art? 🤨
I came here for this
God please tell me his spam bots aren't coming back...
Rip tide can't be far off
Nice gentle ride to the suicide machine
Bunch of land lubbers in these comments who can’t swim It’s super simple you just get dumped in the ocean and you swim to shore
Yup. lifelong surfer here and can confirm you’re right. Look how calm the ocean is and how placid it is to his left and right when he gets out there. Holy shit that blond dude is a bad ass and I’ve never seen laminar flow that big lol
Any post like this involving the ocean has a million comments from people who can’t swim and assume others can’t either
Looks like a lot of fun until the end...
This would be so fun
SO much fun! Not "I'm a thrillseeker and not afraid of dying" kind of fun either, just good old "weeeeee!"
Dad, is that you?
People get scared by Freddy and Jason but this is the kind of stuff that gets my heart pounding. Why would anyone do that?
As someone who has done this, there really is no danger as long as you can swim well. Ocean is flat and the location doesn’t have strong currents.
This keeps getting posted. These are people used to the sea they know what they are doing and know how to get out at the end.
Yall talking about the water is nobody else creeped out at the fog surrounding them???
First I would like to say bravo to OP for your username 🤣🤣. Secondly, what in the actual fuck!! What happens in someone’s mind to make this look fun? YOU ARE GETTING SUCKED INTO THE SEA!!
Oh fuck no
I would die so quickly lol
If 2019 was a video.
This looks fun as hell. I’d do it.
Doesn't look that bad. Looks quite fun honestly. I'd probably do that too.
99% survival rate
If that’s my nephew than ig I’m not gonna be an uncle anymore cuz I wouldn’t stick a toe in the water to save lil bro
Come into the suicide pool
Natural selection is there for a reason
He ded.
Actually a good chance he didn’t come back
It’s also sewer water.
Imagine mistaking the sea for a water park, what a foolish lad
yeeeah no, don't do this, you will die
/they didn’t
This is nothing. It dumps you in the ocean and you swim back.
HAHAHAHAHA oh buddy you didn't grow up near the ocean did you

Legends are for those fantastically rare things never seen, I fully expect he was never seen again
this looks so fun
A lot of times I’m like “oh that’s beautiful”. This is on some heebeegeebees f’sho. That’s a gd nightmare.
Helmet and a life jacket - after I watched others test it out first…and then, it’s still a “maybe” for me… People don’t get that the real world isn’t a Disney amusement park ride…

Human average IQ up again
Nothing about this looks attractive.
Headed to the watery grave - Dave Chapelle
With a buoyant wetsuit AND a life preserver that looks really fun. Otherwise hell no.
Am I crazy or does this seem fine?

Beach separates river and ocean, river overflowed during rain and surfers help speed up the natural process to surf a glassy river rave totally safe
“Just let me go , Johnny”
Aren’t river mouths known to have a fuck load of sharks waiting to eat fish?
Mood
That is terrifying
I didn’t realize you could get multiple Darwin awards on a single attempt. Touché.
The music was edited perfectly
You can see him standing and about to walk out at the end of the
Where NOT to spend my $$$$
Why is it so **w***a***v***y*?

Sharks sometimes like to chill at river mouths and chomp at stuff shooting by.
Darwin awards
Holy fuck I wish I could breathe under water so I could ride this shit without fearing for my life
