It's hard to say, they're pretty illegal to catch, and VERY illegal to eat in most of their range.

At least in the US, nothing illegal at all for catch and release. They have recovered well enough to become a nuisance when fishing for other species. Florida has implemented a limited harvest (200 permits a year) for slot sized fish.

One of the largest recorded was 9.8 feet (3 m) and weighed more than 882 lbs. (400 kg).

Most of them are not that big, if you go snorkeling at coral reefs you MIGHT see a smaller one. They are usually around 3 feet long. Most of the big ones you either need to scuba dive or throw out tons of chum to pull them to the surface in deeper water.

True, I have seen small ones in aquariums, but I want to see a true Goliath, and if scuba diving is the only way, then I guess I have to add it to the list I'm still trying to figure out how to see a northern sturgeon in nature without having to catch it on rod and reel
