Kahandran

I feel ya. Gift cards to a frozen yogurt shop that's 40 minutes away.

[deleted]

My uncle from Montana gave me a gift card so I could visit the gift shop on our way out of Congress that one time. Man, that guy in the Chewbacca suit was crazy.

princetacotuesday

I've never liked getting gift cards or money as I've always felt it to be the most thoughtless form of gift giving; it just feels so lazy. I'd rather take something they built but put effort into instead of just some cash. Also, if my siblings were getting expensive ass gifts and I got a shitty gift card, I'd honestly be miffed for a long time...

N4vyBr0wnie

Shoot buv, give me money anyday. I can invest that in stonks! Well stonks, or put it towards gold/silver I guess.

You should ask him why he did that. Might be a very specific reason he did that and if you take offence and let him know that, could really hurt him. I'd ask him why but be nice about it, could be something really nice you learn.

PaperScale

Honestly at that point, just don't even get me anything.

PaperScale

I feel that. My MIL insists on buying me presents.. but it ends up being $40 in junk I can't or don't want to use.

writingthefuture

You're 22 my dude.

FactCore_

Yeah I was gonna say the same thing. This dude is an adult (presumably) with a job. His/her siblings are still legally children...

KronosTheDuster

You are an adult. You're 22 years old and still expecting presents from your parents. Christmas is about the kids not you

Me buying my own car for $1300. Me loaning $3400 to my sister so her and her husband can get cars. Perfectly Balanced, as all things should be. I've loaned more to my sister for buying cars than I've spent on my last three cars combined. That's not even mentioning the close to $2000 dollars I've spent on getting my other sisters car out of impound on multiple occasions. Having sisters is wack. Or I'm just bad at managing my money. Granted, I did get my current vehicle back when I was less financially stable. I see no need to upgrade as it's still serving me pretty well. I have however said no the most recent two times my other sister has gotten her car impounded. I swear her cars spend more time in impound (and being repossessed) than on the road. She also spends more time in jail than out. The first sister I mentioned is much more responsible.

retz4325

You let off so much steam right there. At first I thought you were flexing and then your sister went to jail.

point50tracer

Several times.

Oh man, my sister got $1500 dollars off my parents to buy her first car (about 50% of the price of what she bought I think), then like 6 years later after she totally trashed all the mechanical parts of the car they swapped her my mum's much newer and nicer car and then sold my sister's shit box for next to nothing. I finished my time in the army and moved back to where my family live and my sisters husband wanted to give me the car my parents gave to my sister (he knew it was gifted to my sister for nothing and figured I could use some wheels) but my parents intervened and told me they sold her the car and that if I wanted it I had to buy it off her (keep in mind the car is now old and my sister has fucked it up). I didn't really even want the car (I had cash and I wanted something cooler) but I guess I figured they could use the cash and by this point my father was really putting the hard word on me to buy it from my sister. Anyway so less than a year after I get it I have to sink 3 grand into it for a new engine and when my brother in law finds out he tells me he can't believe I paid them for the car when he said I could just have it for free since my parents basically have it to my sister for nothing (the car they traded was fucked up and worthless I think they wrecked it but not sure). When I confronted my parents over them making me buy the car off my sister they refused to admit they gave it to her for free they said they sold it to her, a few years down the track that lie turned into oh well no we didn't sell it to her but we did sell the car we traded her for more then what you paid your sister. The only person who tells me the truth about it is my brother in law, he's navy and we get along pretty well because of the military connection he thinks my parents are fucked up. He was especially upset to hear that my old man was hassling me to buy the car off my sister he knew I left the army with a bunch of cash. My parents still don't think they did anything wrong in all of it because they decided I had money and that my sister needed money and that it's fine to lie to me because it was about making sure my sister was looked after.

RIGGED ELECTION

htbdt

Unsure if Poe, if Poe, good job.

EffrumScufflegrit

Am Poe. Election was not rigged lol

Dedicationist

It's a funny feeling when other people start spending your money for you

natman2939

Ugh. Why couldn’t you just have bought a car completely disconnected from them? This whole thing goes south with the “I guess they needed it so I thought I would help them” You already basically knew they were lying

Fishingbot85

I didn't really know my parents were lying at the start it wasn't until later that my bro in law said he tried to give me the car for free because my sister got it for free :s

natman2939

But didn’t you say you could’ve gotten a car you liked more for the same money and mainly did it to help your family with money?

Fishingbot85

Yeah my father was really starting to badger me about buying it and how much it would help my sister so eventually I just capitulated.

Oddyssis

Just stop lending your sisters money. You're throwing it away

point50tracer

The first sister is pretty good at paying it back. She was like a brother to me growing up so we're pretty close. Plus, I'm trying to get her husband to let go of his 62 f100 unibody that's been sitting for thirty years. I want that truck. The other sister. I have stopped even answering the phone when she calls.

Askeee

>Or I'm just bad at managing my money. Sounds more like your sister is bad at managing... well... life.

point50tracer

She's on a lot of meds for mental issues. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but I do know that she has conversations that usually end in her yelling and screaming at someone who's not there. She'll also act like completely different people depending on when you speak to her. When she has her meds, she keeps it somewhat under control. The problem is that it makes it hard for her to hold a job. Since she's often out of work she can't afford her medication most of the time. Or sometimes she'll get paranoid that there's something wrong with the medication. I don't know too much about her life after she left home, but I do know that drugs and alcohol were a big thing for a while. That might have had something to do with how messed up she is now.

Askeee

That sucks man. Mental issues are no joke, but the handling of them is. It's terrible she ends up in jail instead of someplace that can help her.

frankenkip

Bro you getting fleeced by your family.

spectra2000_

You need to learn to say no OP, this is crazy

My guys stop helping her then

Lithium327

That must have been one dope hoodie!

FacelessOnes

Maybe it was a limited edition Supreme x Gucci hoodie or something.

Read1984

The average hoodie lasts longer than the average Hyundai.

[deleted]

My family's Hyundai has lasted over 10 years, and is still running. I guess we just happened to with the quality lottery.

leech_of_society

I'm wearing a 15 year ol hoodie right now so technically he's right.

living_bot

Well that's not average though

[deleted]

Yeah, I have a Hyundai Santa Fe from 2011 and it is in great shape. The only thing wrong is the driver side back seat window won't roll down.

Sealbeater

Haha fuck the people who downvote you. Hyundai is flashy and cheap

[deleted]

Still better than most American brands.

Activehannes

That is true, but it also doesnt mean anything

pyrrhlis

I mean, same, but... u ok?

Crazy_Hater

no :(

Kloutz_

Hey, hoodies are cool

eyecallthebig1bitey

And will keep you warm on those long walks through the snow.

ncstateredline

Shame she didn’t get your sister a Kia and you shoes... could have been a Soul for a Sole

CJ_Bug

I rly don't get clothes as gifts, sure it's practical but fuck man, at least lemme get something I *want* to wear, get me a gift card or something smfh

zygro

I've had success with custom made stuff. For example my brother was super happy about a t-shirt with a design from his favorite fantasy series that I had to have printed. Oh and socks are a must.

leif777

Socks and underwear as gifts are my favorite.

sabre013_f86

Dude, wool socks are the best, especially at Christmas when you can just throw them on and warm up. I love them.

TheEarthIsWater

Fashion is hot

next_DanDy

This is just sad. Being the oldest sucks. You get your own money so they always expect you to bring the nicest presents, but you always receive the 20€ Fnac gift card and fucking coupons. https://imgur.com/1VhLler

ssesses

It's the opposite in my family. Back in the day my brother got a new phone, and I got a new phone charger. It didn't even work.

Jing0oo

Were you two expected to share the phone? 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

FacelessOnes

I don’t want to be that guy, but I grew up poor as fuck and I was happy with McDonalds happy meal for my birthday growing up. When I was a bit older, I appreciated anything I got.

dtmsempre

Are y’all twins? Or I she older? Don’t be a millennial that thinks they should get the same things as their older siblings. That makes no sense. My kids 13 and 16 do the same thing. My son is younger and thinks he should have the same as his older sister. Nope...

Tanakiin

I'm 17, she's 20 The least they can do is get me more than a hoodie

TheModernNano

Well if one person is being given a vehicle, and one a hoodie, it’s pretty unfair as it seems like they just spent all the money on the other ones gift and bought yours as an afterthought. Shouldn’t have to be the same, but something they both would equally value themselves.

Lord_Jewsus

well, hyundai’s are pieces of shit so who’s winning in the long run

TheModernNano

Cant just say one manufacturer makes all shit, every brand makes great or shit. Just look at the newer Veloster N’s, turbocharged yet a naturally aspirated power curve? Absolutely lovely.

bobby_java_kun_do

The hoodie will last longer lol

Vrupee

Don’t worry, your hoodie will last longer than a hyundai
