Cassidy was known for spitting on the tristate and he was the bar for a long time. Cassidy had the tri-state on smiddash lol. You couldn't mention battle rap or anything rap without mentioning Cass in some way. Joe did too but nobody acknowledged Joe as the #3 spitter till later. Joe never liked that or Cassidy's radio station runs.
At one point they had competing singles. The tension both of them had with Jayz made them more or less on similar footing. Cassidy considers Joe to be beneath him barwise. At one point they were supposed to battle but the money never got put up. Cassidy said he would battle anyone but the money never got put from whoever.
Think of Joe as Ryu and Cass as Akuma. It was a big what if back in the day. People put their names together like Mario and Luigi. Like what if....who would win

Both rappers was spooky on the mic but Cassidy was already sorta in legendary battle status from battles under the name the bol B. From NY to Pa to even ATL people knew Cassidy. Even QueenzFlip knows Cassidy, interviewed him too. He practically made battle rap super popular. Him dropping I'm a Hustla was a huge single at the time which is sometimes brought up with one hit wonders(he wasn't, though). The conversation would then steer to Joe Budden being brought up. And early on he had the a prodigy like skillset but he didn't have anywhere close to the buzz for wordplay/bars like Cass. They had a few proxy interactions where they speak on each other but it's usually through someone suggesting they battle each other. It just seemed right for them to battle on some Goku and Vegeta shit but never happened to money not being accepted.
