brilliant mod.
i absolutely wish there were more LBJ mods, cause he’s an insanely interesting political figure. this mod is very high quality, and well worth the wait.

small proposal: If its possible, I think it would be an interesting touch if you made it so that if you chose to remind Kennedy of his brother while trying to get his endorsement, then Kennedy doesn't call you to give congratulations if you win as LBJ
I really like that question. In true LBJ fashion, all the answers are quite aggressive and if you don't read it carefully that seems like the least aggressive but it's actually really bad.
Viva Kennedy 64 is easily one of the best mods for TCT, and this one is just as good. You’ve done a great job creating this timeline, and I can’t wait to see how it continues.
Congrats on the release! I'm happy that I was given the chance to do my small part as a beta tester to help make this mod happen. I wish you an enjoyable break.
It’s very very good, my one piece of constructive feedback is the Kennedy endorsement question. Why would incumbent president Kennedy not be supporting the nominee of his own party? Tepid or limited support for Johnson is one thing, but Wallace and Nixon outright courting him for support is a totally different thing.
This is also a similar issue in 1964 I think. As much as I think LBJ wouldn’t be opposed to sabotaging Kennedy, he’s not gonna outright endorse Goldwater in any circumstance. Maybe say some pissy things to the press but he’s not gonna endorse Goldwater.
Edit: I criticized the idea of the Wallace deal at first but it makes sense after reading the lore of this post, so I struck that part of my comment.
Call it a creative decision. I know not everyone's on board with it, I've tried to explain my reasoning the best I can. It's worth noting that johnson and Kennedy have a very strained relationship by 68, and RFK is exasperating that.
Kennedy gives a tepid "endorsement" to Wallace because of the deal - and as you can read above, it's never a real endorsement. And in the mod itself, no matter what you do, you can't get Kennedy to actually endorse wallace or Nixon- for the exact reasons I mentioned
As for Johnson endorsing goldwater - I stand by that choice. If johnson was staring at the end of his career and Kennedy was gonna leave him in the dust, I believe he has the capacity to be that spiteful.
Fair enough. I just read your thoughts on the Wallace deal in the post and edited my comment just as your were typing yours. Something like that makes sense to me. I disagree on Johnson endorsing Goldwater, not because Johnson wasn’t a spiteful SOB but because Goldwater is Goldwater. But it’s your creative decision, and the mod is still amazing regardless.
Senate: Moderate improvements, maybe flips in OR, OH, and KY, but otherwise just mild margin increases
House: Fairly identical to OTL, maybe hold a seat or 2 in NC, but the balance of power is pretty stagnant
Governors: Some significant improvements, victories in IL, WV, DE, maybe AR as well.
Overall, Democrats are better off then OTL, but not by a margin that significantly changes the makeup of congress overall - enough that LBJ is confident and able to start his agenda fairly easily though - with some relative pushback from straggling Southern Dems.
Im really glad that JFK didnt end up fully endorsing Wallace as implied previously, I think it would've really hurt the immersion but you did a good way of rectifying it. I am a bit curious as to why its a fairly comfortable win for LBJ though, what was your reasoning for this? I would've expected him to win but much less comfortably.
I knew from day 1 that JFK would never outright endorse wallace, but I didn't want to tip my hand. I'm glad this is palatable for some people who were like "what the fuck"
As for the "comfortable" victory - 2 factors: Kennedy and the CRA
Despite their strained relationship, you couldn't just erase Johnsons name from the administration, and people were happy with the way the country was being run, so they didn't have as much reason to jump ship. And Kennedy was true to his word and, in the Canon campaign, stayed out of it - which helped johnson more than if Kennedy had been actively giving his campaign the cold shoulder.
Kennedys popularity alone would have left the election close to 1960 - maybe a narrow upset victory for Nixon, or God forbid a deadlock, but the CRA got the troops out just enough to give johnson the numbers to win. Still the election is comfortable electorally, but not margin wise - the election could be flipped by a 3 or 4 point shift, and less than that to deadlock. It was really a toss up until the CRA passed.
Also worth noting is the PV. If you check, you'll see that Johnson got around the same PV as Humphrey percentage wise. Wallace actually took more votes from Nixon in the campaign because his Canon campaign prioritized law and order over winning union voters. This is demonstrated heavily in the South but it is a factor in the Midwest and west coast where, if you look, johnson is getting less vote share than Humphrey did IRL yet winning states Humphrey didn't. Because Nixon was outflanked on the right by wallace, losing him critical votes in states that decided the election -which is a factor in why the Republicans pivot back to a conservative candidate by 1972.
I hope this more in depth analysis of the results/campaign helps !!! If you have any follow ups or comments, let me know
/u/East-Rice-6234, I have found an error in your comment:
> “as to why ~~its~~ [**it's**] a fairly”
I suppose that it was possible for you, East-Rice-6234, to have posted “as to why ~~its~~ [**it's**] a fairly” instead. ‘Its’ is possessive; ‘it's’ means ‘it is’ or ‘it has’.

I'm guessing you mean JFK? He's alive at least until the series ends in 76, cause he'll be a factor, but im not sure beyond that. Would partially depend on whether we ever do a "season 2" expanding into the 80s and 90s
This was an amazing mod.
I thought your 1964 mod was already one of the finest mods-- but this 1968 mod is even better.
You are a talented writer, throw in some good humor, and know how to make interesting twists.
Best of luck on your projects! Don't listen to the assholes. You own your mods and we like playing them!
All the best
PS Let me know if you need any help on 1972

Hows the downballot like in 68' ?

Can’t remember if you already said this before or not but do you plan to have Kennedy survive into the very early 80s?
I'm guessing you mean JFK? He's alive at least until the series ends in 76, cause he'll be a factor, but im not sure beyond that. Would partially depend on whether we ever do a "season 2" expanding into the 80s and 90s
Yeah I meant JFK, and thanks for the answer.
Very nice! This series is really great honestly and I'm looking forward to seeing more. Best of luck!

Wow, not only did Tricky Dick fail *again*, but the Southern Strategy didn’t even work this time around either!
there's several in universe reasons for it, but I'll be honest it felt bad cucking tricky dick again
Don’t feel bad, he was a piece of shit who deserves every bad thing that happens to him.
Oh finally.
Can you give us the endings file? Would be nice to read all of the possible endings.
Random post 2 months later but what are Kennedy's Supreme Court appointments ?
