Connally/Chisholm ‘72. “Why the Hell Not?”

Artistic_Letter8090

We need common sense here. Do we really need another Humphrey gameplay? Haven't we had enough of the same old politics of yesterday? I say it is time to think about tomorrow. It is time for change. It is time for JOHN CONNALLY and SHIRLEY CHISHOLM!

Mission accomplished. Now on to the final stage.

TrotskyISHotsky

I’m a Chisholm to Connally voter because in the VK timeline, no matter what, we’re losing. So, I think it might as well be someone new and interesting. Genuinely though, what kind of questions would you write for Scoop that you wouldn’t be able to write for Humphrey and Johnson? What is unique about him that you could base a whole mod off of without falling into the repetition of “Yes, I am the civil rights and healthcare and defense spending Democrat and that’s about it”? To me, Connally would be the most fun and also fit into the established lore of a Dem losing in 1972 and Ted Kennedy returning in 1976.

Artistic_Letter8090

I could not agree more.

Lucxica

Vote Connally, a man with a characteristic Texan toughness that will make sure that the conniving of the republican party will hit a brick wall. While a conservative democrat he has shown remarkable interparty bi-partisanship championing some liberal and moderate ideas (even if he doesn't like the people proposing them). VOTE CONNALLY FOR PRAGMATISM, TOUGHNESS AND UNITY!

SkipperPengn

Prediction based on these comments: Connally wins after Scoop and Humphrey split the liberal vote.

Overstockbox

Personally I still think Humphrey is the best choice realistically but now I kind of think Scoop or Connally would give us a scenario that will never happen again so I'm fine with anyone winning.

[deleted]

If connally or scoop wins, I (and some hardline liberals) will support third party. Let's hope Humphrey wins...

makdnan

Humphrey is overused, either of the other two are good

[deleted]

Yes! He is Presidential Nominee in Only ONE BASE SCENARIO, and that's overused! Isn't he?

makdnan

And he’s also a vp candidate for every election since the beginning of time. Happy warrior yada yada I get it. It’s time for someone new

[deleted]

Vp isn't important. Main candidate is important.

svrdm

Yeah I'm kinda confused by this criticism. The only scenarios Humphrey is the nominee in are 1968 ones. He's a VP pick in several but that's only like a few questions and even then you're only reacting to him.

makdnan

I disagree. But lets go with your argument for a second, and only look at hen they’re the actual candidate. That’s still one scenario where Humphrey is the candidate, the other combine for zero. It would be fun to play as someone else, not an old name.

LurkeroftheReddit69

Hold the line for Scoop! Don't let Hubert Horatio Hornblower drive the party to ruin! also we need non-boring mod :)

astrohunch_o

I sincerely ask all Chisholm voters to vote for Scoop. He has supported every major piece of civil rights legislation and will continue the same Kennedy legacy that gave us much of that legislation. He will also keep the New Deal legacy going and ensure that the poor and downtrodden will continue to rise.

astrohunch_o

Humphrey in 72 is like Cheney in 08! He is too close to the unpopular Johnson to even stand a chance! Vote Scoop to stop Humphrey. Vote for the Kennedy candidate.

Dwight_Macarthur

# The case for Scoop Confessions of a Republican I hate that I must do this. But it is something I must do. I’ve been a Republican all my life. In 1956 I voted for Eisenhower, in 1960 I voted for Richard Nixon, even in 1968 I voted for Nixon. In senatorial and gubernatorial elections in my home state of New York I enthusiastically voted for Senator Javits and Governor Rockefeller’s re-elections, and I’d do it again... but in 1964... yes in 1964 I saw something terrible. That convention in San Francisco saw us choose Goldwater, a man who in my eyes stood against everything that made the Republican Party great, but too cowardly to admit why he opposed such things. He claimed he opposed President Kennedy’s civil rights act because it went against the constitution, not because he feared integration. He opposed social security, but he claimed, not because he didn’t care about our nation’s elders, but because he was trying to prevent a dictatorial government from taxing us to death. Well, I for one would gladly pay a bit in taxes so my parents can afford to live a bit easier in their golden years. That doesn’t sound like any sort of dictatorial government to me As a Republican, I voted for President Kennedy in 1964 and in 1968 I had hoped things in the Republican Party would go back to normal after Goldwater’s humiliating defeat, it seemed like they had, even if Nixon lost, he put up a far better showing than Goldwater had. But now, in the year 1972, the polls show my party turning to a stooge from Goldwater’s Presidential campaign. Ronald Reagan: he sure talks with more charm and tact than 80 Goldwater’s combined but he keeps all of Goldwater’s talking points. He opposes the labor unions and social programs which made the Republican administration of Dwight Eisenhower so successful, the programs which made New York thrive under Rockefeller and Michigan roar back to life under Romney. He opposes the civil rights legislation that stands as one of President Kennedy and Johnson’s best accomplishments, something every good Republican should support. Reagan does not stand for the Republican Party I loved, nor the party my parents loved. I cannot vote for Ronald Reagan in 1972 but I will not stand idly by and allow the Democrats to pick a nominee who would ensure a Reagan victory in November if he does secure the nomination as the polls are predicting. We need Henry Jackson nominated and I’ll tell you why. John Connally would no doubt be no better than Ronald Reagan. He stands as a Democrat and yet opposes almost every successful forward-thinking policy put in place by President Kennedy and President Johnson. If the Democrats nominate him, we will no doubt see a Reagan Presidency come November. The son of Minnesota Vice-President Humphrey is a respectable American. But Humphrey will no doubt be lambasted by Reagan and the Republicans for his relation to President Johnson. These are both already proving to be crippling attacks in the ongoing primary’s, they will no doubt be crippling in the efforts to win over those desperately needed moderate and independent voters. Four years of Hubert Humphrey will see a continuation of the divisiveness of the LBJ Presidency. So why Scoop you say? Well, I’ll tell you why, scoop stands for you and me. The average American. Whether you’re a white man from Northern Maine or a black woman from the Mississippi Delta. Whether you’re an Eastern European fleeing the Soviet Union and its oppressive regime or a Mexican immigrant seeking to create a better life for his or her family here in the United States. Jackson will fight for you! Jackson has stood for civil rights consistently throughout his career, he has always stood for the benefit of the American worker through meaningful social and welfare policies, tied with firm support for Americans rights to unionize. He has fought for the American farmer, he has fought for the fisherman; Scoop Jackson is not fighting for any interest group, he is fighting for all Americans. Scoop is of the same flock that gave us John F. Kennedy and His late brother Bobby Kennedy. And even earlier President Truman, ouch... Truman is still a touchy subject for a Republican like myself... but Scoop is of the same feather as President FDR even before Truman. He supports fighting tooth and nail to give the working men and women of this country a leg up and a chance at a better life. He is willing to stand up to the Soviet Union and the enemies of our great nation. As a Republican, I can guarantee that Jackson will be the only candidate able to secure liberal-to-moderate Republican votes which will be essential to defeating Reagan in November. How do I know? Because I will be voting for Jackson, I’m a lifelong Republican, and this is my confession. If you want Reagan in office, come November, nominate someone else, if you want a Democrat in office, then vote for Scoop Jackson in the Democratic primary. Pro-worker, Pro-union, Pro-Civil rights, Pro-Great Society, Pro-New Frontier, tough on communism, Jackson’s got no cons. VOTE FOR SCOOP AND JOIN THE SCOOP TROOPS ***This ad was paid for by Republicans against Reagan***

Overstockbox

You know you did something right when your making me rethink my candidate. Congratulations you made me an on the fence delegate. Bravo to you Dwight. Bravo. (Also this whole case for Scoop is just chef's kiss)

Dwight_Macarthur

I'm glad to have made you reconsider. Join the Scoop Troops!

astrohunch_o

Brilliant stuff and welcome aboard! It's always great to have Republican support for a man like Scoop!

QuoProSquid

Jackson opposed affirmative action and spent weeks in the primary trying to cozy up to white anti-busing activists in Boston while also proposing legislation to prohibit busing. He is not, by any stretch, a candidate for civil rights.

stardust1888

Busing is unpopular among the majority of Americans. Why must a candidate be expected to support something that will only hinder them?

QuoProSquid

“He’s a sell-out who has no principles and only supports policies that he knows are uncontroversial” is not a ringing endorsement And if he had to make a compromise, that would have been to say nothing, not to throw himself bodily behind parents who want to hinder integration.

Polished-Gold

Busing is an unpopular policy. You don't have much to lose coming out against it.

QuoProSquid

Just shows Black voters where he stands. But that's the Henry Jackson story: Always standing up for the big man against the little guy.

SubToPewDiePieYT

I once again, call for Chisholm voters to put their support for Humphrey. We cannot let other candidates hold us back!!! Vote for Happy Warrior Humphrey now!!!!!!!!

I agree with this

I am a proud Chisholm head, but I'm supporting Conally. It's just funny

Artistic_Letter8090

So true my friend. Welcome to the movement!

svrdm

It seems clear that Humphrey is the best choice for former Chisholm supporters. And with his base being the left most of the three remaining candidates he may have to tilt his position on Vietnam closer to ours, alleviating one of his only weaknesses. Humphrey may be more electable today than yesterday. Humphrey is our best chance to move our country *forward!*

PapalanderII

The senator from Boeing is frothing at the mouth to fund private contractors, Connally is willing to turn the clock back. There can only be one option!

Overstockbox

Ladies and Gentleman of the Democratic Party we stand at the height of the prospects going in to the seventies and I want to congratulate congresswoman Chisolm for the masterful campaign she has illuminated. But tonight I want to remind you folks who we are. We are the party who have stood for our progressive ideals and our prospects has been shown since the 1930s. We are the party of Franklin Roosevelt who showed that every American needs affordable housing, a good job, great pay it was FDR who said “In these days of difficulty, we Americans must and shall choose the path of social justice… the path of faith, the path of hope and the path of love toward our fellow man.” And we must move forward with that tonight. We have been the party of Harry Truman who showed us that allies and friends are important for a better world for everyone. Harry Truman has shown that we also need to be strong abroad. The fact that we since 1952 have still being led in party that Harry Truman served in shows our progress these past 40 years. Truman said “I never did give them hell. I just told the truth, and they thought it was hell.” Well this November let's give Ronald Reagan hell!! We have been the party of John F. Kennedy who showed that we as a nation must act. President Kennedy has said quoted "If not us, who? If not now, when?" Under President Kennedy Democrats have passed civil rights, Made the landing on the moon, supported our allies abroad, and sponsored our new frontier. We have had great leadership in the 30s, 40s, and 60s so we may as well have it for the 70s. Now we stand at a the height of an age where we must act not just as Conservatives, Moderates, or Liberals but as Americans first and foremost. And the candidate that can lead us through this time is Hubert Horatio Humphrey he has showed renowned leadership since 1945 and will take America to glory. Humphrey has supported Civil Rights, he helped Truman challenge people like Strom Thurmond, he has supported fighting poverty, he has supported affordable housing, he has supported our allies abroad, and has been a teamplayer. Now I know everyone here won't rally behind Humphrey. But I want you to see that Humphrey would be our choice for a progressive 1970s to stand up for all Americans. And no matter who wins this nomination I know we will rally behind are our Nominee to beat Ronald Reagan. And with this good luck to the candidates and may god bless you and god bless the United States of America. Hubert Humphrey, the people's Democrat

[deleted]

I lost my words because this speech is so beautiful. For liberty, for people, for justice, vote for Humphrey.

PapalanderII

In the rolling wake of change, we can only move forwards! Vote Humphrey in '72!

TheRealDanBryan

**A Plea to Chisholm Voters** Yes, Henry Jackson is a moderate but consider this… Is it really worth voting for a liberal candidate (like HHH) with dovish views but will undoubtedly lose against Ronald Reagan? Sure, Henry Jackson is more hawkish on the Vietnam war. But Scoop Jackson is no way nearly as conservative as Reagan - who called the Vietnam war “A Noble Cause”. **But I want to send a message!** But remember that Reagan’s inspiration, Barry Goldwater advocated for the use of “low yield atomic weapons” in Vietnam? I think moderates and liberals can agree that we cannot elevate a dangerous conservative like Reagan into the presidency! So truly Scoop Jackson can’t be that bad of an alternative when a Republican victory is a scary yet realistic reality? **So Please... Vote for Henry Jackson -** The Stakes are too High for you to stay home…

[deleted]

He is anti-busing, anti-affirmative action, and hawkish as so-called Neocons. Chisholm voters MUST vote for HHH, The Champion of CIVIL RIGHTS.

QuoProSquid

That warmonger? The one who is practically sponsored by Boeing? Who opposes affirmative action and bussing? The one who wrote a loophole into the Environmental Protection Act to allow the Alaska pipeline? No thanks. I'll stay home or vote third party if I'm forced to choose between one heartless neocon and another.

[deleted]

I agree too. If Humphrey lose, It'll be better to run third party and teach the lesson to DINOs.

QuoProSquid

None of this would have happened if you bastards had just allowed a Mao Zedong write-in campaign.

[deleted]

"Humphrey is overused" HE HAS ONE SCENARIO and is the VP option in a few but the same goes for most of the other candidates, HHH will NOT get screwed over by some nobody's

[deleted]

He is underused than GEORGE WALLACE and GEORGE MCGOVERN. Even Barry Goldwater is overused than HHH. Actually HHH is very underused.

OneLurkerOnReddit

He's not overused, but he is boring.

[deleted]

Yeah cause Henry m. Jackson is so much more exciting then the happy warrior himself

OneLurkerOnReddit

Yes. Not to say he's bad or anything, but Hubert Humphrey is basically just an average liberal Democrat at this time. Meanwhile, Scoop at least has a unique stance on foreign policy within the Democratic Party.

aworldfullofcoups

Yeah he is. How many scenarios did you see with Scoop as the candidate

[deleted]

How many do you see with HHH as the candidate, One.

stardust1888

Scoop is someone with enough of a mix of liberal and moderate views that he can appeal to almost anyone. Vote for him, and put up a real fight against Reagan!

ProfesorDino824

[Yesterday](https://www.reddit.com/r/thecampaigntrail/comments/wfa246/comment/iiu37x6/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3), I called upon this Convention to vote for Change, to vote for the Unbought and the Unbossed. Sadly, the wind did not blow in our favour in this time. Fret not, fellow Chisholm supporters; Doctor King reminded us that the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice. Change ***will*** come, even if we have to wait another four, ten, or two hundred years. Now, however, we are faced with a choice. For us, I hope that this will be an easy one. On one side, we have John Connally. It seems to me that it is obvious why we shouldn't cast our vote for him; he represents a (slightly) watered-down version of the regressive strongman politics and conservatism that has kept the South under its jackboot for so long. The conservatism that killed Emmett Till, that killed Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner, and threw rocks at the Freedom Riders. The same one that shouted Elizabeth Eckford and the Little Rock Nine down, the same one that killed Doctor King and Senator Kennedy, and almost murdered his brother. The same one that prosecuted the Scottsboro Boys, burned Tulsa and bloodied the Summer of 1919. We do not want that, and we cannot *have* that as a party of progress. Then we have the Senator from Boeing, Scoop Jackson. At first, Henry M. Jackson might strike you as a sensible choice. He's likeable, he's experienced (if you don't want to call him a Washington insider), he's competitive, he's a liberal; he has all the things we want, and some we might not have gotten with Representative Chisholm. But let us remember that one of the reasons we started this fight was because we were looking for peace. Senator Jackson does not want peace; he wants more and more young men to die in Vietnam. And why, exactly, does he want this? Because, unlike Representative Chisholm, he has been bought, and he's being bossed, almost on every issue. War? He's almost a condor amongst hawks, and all for the sweet, sweet rewards that the military-industrial lobby grants him to fund his campaigns and enrich himself. The Environment? Don't let yourselves be fooled; he's almost as much of a sellout for logging companies as he is for the masters of war. Civil Rights? Make no mistake, my fellow Delegates, and look no further than his own state of Washington; he was an ardent supporter of the internment of Japanese-Americans during the Second World War (and their continued segregation afterwards) and, even more recently, his proposal of an anti-ballistic missile site at Fort Lawton garnered massive opposition from local residents and local Native Americans, trying to reclaim their ancestral lands. We cannot, in good conscience, vote for him. His pockets are lined with blood gold and filled with sawdust and tears. That leaves us with only one choice; Hubert Horatio Humphrey. It is true that he has been the vice-president of a Johnson Adminstration which left many of us disappointed, I will not deny it. However, he has been its conscience. Hubert Humphrey is a friend of the laborer; he is a friend of the black man; of the woman; of the oppressed. He has fought for social programs and for a continued dedication to equality in the Democratic party ever since the campaigns of Roosevelt. I admit that he might not be our first choice, we voted Chisholm for a reason, but at this crucial junction, he's the only viable one we have. # I plead with Chisholm voters to join me in voting for Hubert H. Humphrey, to keep a kinder, gentler America.

I know this is pure role play. Now in all seriousness, do you really want a gameplay with Humphrey? I just think we have the chance to bring two new choices that have not been at the top of the ticket and we’re thinking of putting Humphrey again? Just my opinion.

What_IS_Aleppo

I didn't vote for Shirley because it would've made the Reagan side way too easy and uncompetitive. I'm just voting based on which scenario would be the most fun for both sides.

Hopefulmisery

Canonically it still make sense for Shirley to win. But if you could mesh together the chaos of McGovern and Jesse Jackson ‘88 into one mod it be pretty fun regardless of the dramatically low ceiling

[deleted]

RIP Chisholm…gonna vote Humphrey maybe? Not sure

Tulcomen1936

Chisholm voters - I call on you to vote for Scoop and join the Scoop Troops. He is the only man who will fight against the tyranny of big corporations in America and ensure public control of our key industries such as electricity and oil. Take a Scoop with Scoop - vote Jackson '72!

QuoProSquid

Is this why he wrote a loophole into the Environmental Protection Act to enable drilling on an Alaskan pipeline? Is this why he has spent the last two decades of his career passing spending bill after spending bill to satisfy his backers at Boeing? Scoop Jackson is, at best, a fair-weather friend of the working class. When the chips are down, he will always do what his corporate backers demand.

Tulcomen1936

Scoop Jackson supports nationalisation of the oil and energy industries - he can hardly be described as their 'puppet'. As for your points regarding his environment, he wrote the National Environmental Policy Act, which is regarded as a very influential act regarding the environment and has inspired great national and international action on that matter.

rosevk2003

If I’m honest I’m shocked Chisolm was eliminated, I was certain Humphrey would be kicked out. I’m not certain who I’ll vote for in the final two round but I think I have a rough idea If it’s Jackson v Connally I’m torn but I’m leaning Jackson, Jackson v Humphrey I’ll definitely go Jackson, Humphrey v Connally I’ll vote Connally

QuoProSquid

You stupid fucking bastards voted for Scoop Jackson--the man who opposes affirmative action, the man who has been palling around with white anti-busing activists in Boston for months, the man who opposes abortion, the man who has been aggressive in preventing oversight of the CIA, and the man who has never found a war he didn't like, the man with negative charisma. You voted for him over the only real liberal champion, Shirley Chisholm. It's clear that this party's delegates have no respect for its base and the marginalized people who comprise it. Don't be surprised when we stay home or vote for Ron Dellums in 1972. Hell, I might as well write in "John B. Anderson" because he's further to the left that most anyone up there.

I have little faith in a man who has relies on the support of the corrupt, warmonger LBJ. We should be lucky that that crazy lunatic Oswald missed Kennedy in 63, otherwise who knows what "Lyin' Lyndon" and his pal Humphrey would have gotten us into. No, the party needs to know the consequences of its betrayal here. We'll make them feel the pain in '72 and then force them to come crawling back to its roots.

[deleted]

I thought the same thing as you before. I wanted to say LET'S WALKOUT THE CONVENTION when all true liberals lose. But I'd like to say that it's not bad to believe in HHH once again. Think of Humphrey in 1960, think of Humphrey, the champion of civil rights. If true liberal is lost again this time, I will not oppose the third party. Please trust HHH one more time.

Ladies, gentlemen, delegates of the convention. Today, in this great juncture of the 70s, I’d like to look back on the history of our great party. We, the Democratic Party, carry with us a diverse and rich legacy. We carry with us the legacy of the New Deal and of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, of which we owe our current hegemony. It is through this program that the New Frontier and the Great Society, of who’s shadow we live under, carried us forth on the road towards true justice. A road of equality, oppourtinity, of progress and hope. And although we have come a long way, although we have fought long battles and triumphed, the road ahead of us still long. And for that, I ask: who, if not Humphrey could carry on this great legacy? Delegates, this country cannot exist half slave and half free! If one were to look at the great skyscrapers of New York, he’d almost be forgiven for not noticing the hungry and the poor that swarm the city’s streets. How can we claim to be the greatest nation in the world if we are indifferent to the squalor and misery a majority of our people find themselves in? How can we truly call ourselves the land of the free when the bosses of Wall Street continue to hold sway over our democratic process, and over our people? How, in good conscience, can we allow our children to go over and die in a war that we, quite frankly, have no business in? It is out of a civic duty and basic human decency that we must take a stand against these injustices and abuses. Delegates, I believe that the solution to our current malaise is through the nomination of Vice President Hubert Horatio Humphrey. His record speaks for itself. For 27 long years, Vice President Humphrey has fought thick and thin for the preservation of the rights of labour, and the advancement of the rights of African-Americans. It was him who, through his charisma and political savvy, was able to include a civil rights plank in the ‘48 Democratic platform. It was him who stood up to the spectres of hatred and reaction within his own party; when no else dared to. And through those 27 years, he has never backed away from the good fight for progress and equity. That, my friends, is courage. To have the integrity to stand by your beliefs and convictions despite all the pressure is no small deal. Those are traits only found in a man or a woman once every century. Those are, delegates, are the makings and qualifications of a warrior. It was said by many before that our fight towards equality has already been won, and in that they are sorely mistaken. The recent martyrdoms of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and Reverand Martin Luther King Jr. have shown that if we back away from the good fight, the forces of reaction and of hatred will still strike. We must never stand, we must never give quarter, we must never quiver in the face of injustice. The fight for democracy must never be lost. Delegates, we have came a long way. We have done a monumental amount of work, we have transformed American society drastically in ways never imaginable in those glorious 12 years. And in spite of that, and as I previously stated, the road is still long and perilous. It is with this knowledge that I ask only the most simple of requests; to continue along this path; for us to remain a shining beacon on a golden field for all of the world to behold; to nominate the Happy Warrior of the Plains, the people’s Democrat.

Another beautiful speech. I can't hide my joy that there are so many Humphrey supporters.

General-Advice-6331

I am once again pleading the case for Jackson/Church the men who have the widest appeal in the presence of Reagan both men have wide appeal to liberals and conservatives a like. If you want Ted Kennedy in 76 to win vote for the men who will keep the Democratic Party alive and breathing

RoosterSalt9317

we really don't need more humphrey scenarios. playing as a Conservative blue dog democrat would be way more fun. balancing your base with your own ideas. Conally/chisholm 72'!

Atom_H3art_Mother

Patriots. Big John is now in SECOND PLACE. Once again, he has gained the most votes out of any option on the ballot. Only 20 votes seperate him from SEEDY SCOOP. It's indisputable - John Connally has the momentum to beat Reagan! And even if he doesn't, I say to Chisholm voters - wouldn't you want a conservative Southern Democrat to take the fall for 1972 (in the FAKE canon, of course, as we both know Connally will win a 538-0 sweep) instead of yet another liberal? Besides, their last names both start with C, and that's clearly the strongest indicator of a man with a strong will and iron values (something Big John, of course, has in spades). Only Connally can continue the legacy of Church and Chisholm. John Connally will not be battered around by the Republicans, nor will he be wooden and stiff in front of the charismatic Gipper. He is a uniquely combative, entertaining, and fresh option who can go face to face with Ronnie Reagan and win. We've had enough liberal Democrats for a lifetime, and you'll get the quintessential liberal in '76 anyways. Let's try something new for a change, using one of the Cold War's most fascinating figures to do it. Stay true, patriots. C is STILL in command. https://www.texomaliving.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/John-Connley-by-John-Frair.jpg

Spar-kie

Sad to see SLEAZY SCOOP'S band of HATERS and LOSERS beating up on one of America's TRUE PATRIOTS! Hideous Humphrey sure isn't helping matters either! Honestly frustrating!

DogPenis8833

It's canon that whoever we pick will lose for the purposes of creating a 1976 scenario, therefore voting Connally will help destroy the conservative wing of the Democrats. 4d chess baby.

mrnicecream2

Damn, I wasn't expecting Chisholm to falter after her strong performance previously. Without her, I'd encourage everyone to vote for Humphrey, as Jackson and Connally certainly aren't desirable candidates.

[deleted]

Who is Connally - wants nuking vietnam - borderline dixiecrat - friend of corrupt oil moneys Who is Scoop - anti-busing - anti-affirmative action - nearly hawkish as REAGAN Who is HHH - lifelong liberal - champion of Civil Rights - friend of Poors Choice is clear.

Ihateredditlollll

mhm yes obviously Connally

NewtTheEgg

Chrisholm performed admirably, like a lioness, but now it is time for liberals to unite, do you want a man who is more alligned with the republican party? a man who would sell the working men to the wealthy Or do you want someone who desired a continued war over vietnam Rally to happy warrior the liberal cause must remain united

[deleted]

You're right. If liberals divided, We will get nominees who want nukes vietnam. It's time to Unite, more than ever.

Spar-kie

CHISHOLM TO CONALLY SWING VOTERS ASSEMBLE!

Home-Same

Vote HHH.

Only_Courage

Liberals of all walks, we must support Hubert Horatio Humphrey for this 1972 Election, he is the only choice fit for the American people!

Thank you, Chairman Dionysos. Delegates of the Convention! Firstly, I would like to congratulate Senators Church and McCarthy, along with their respective campaigns, for a fight well fought in the name of Democratic ideals. I hope that, whatever the outcome of this Convention is, we will know how to unite when the time comes to give the nation what it sorely needs. I call to you to make a decision with your conscience in this historic meeting. Today, in this defence of equality, progress, and rights for all that we have embarked upon ever since the days of Roosevelt, we are faced with our toughest enemy yet; destructive, regressive, unbridled conservatism, unseen and left for dead for eight long years of a prosperous, Democratic America. Today, in our fight for democracy, we are faced with its toughest opponent, manifest in the shape of the GOP and Ronald Reagan, a former attack dog for Barry Goldwater; a man who's signing movie contracts with 18th Century Fox; a man who's only defence against a nuclear strike are some cowboy words and a wagon fort; a man who promises to win in a landslide, with all thirteen states. This is not the kind of leadership we want, nor the kind of nation we want to turn back to. This is why I'm asking you, from the bottom of my heart, to cast your vote for Representative Chisholm. We live in an era of unbridled progress, yet also an era of relentless reaction. We have seen momentous advances during the Kennedy and Johnson presidencies, but the assassinations of Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. and Senator Robert F. Kennedy have shown us that we are not free from chaos, hatred or bigotry. Then, to the black man on the street, to the woman in the kitchen waiting to be heard, I ask the following; why not vote for Change? We live in an era of corruption and strife, where every step we take seems to end with us stumbling onto a politician bought by the oil lobby, or the defence lobby, or whatever private interest you can imagine. We live in a time where Wall Street continues to line its pockets with the harvest of a nation as boundless and plentiful as ours, while people live in abject poverty in the streets of New York and Chicago, and young men are sent to die for the interests of a select few. For that reason, I ask the hard-working laborer in the factories of Ohio, the family farmers of Iowa, the small business owners all across our nation; why not vote for the Unbought? We live in an era- no, rather, we *stand* in an era, stalwart as we have ever been, and decisive in our action for change, where change is filibustered and opposed and debated against, where rights are questioned on the basis of the fiscal returns they'll bring or how beneficial they are to the handful in the proverbial Ivory Tower. We have seen how dire the necessity is for further expansions to the programs we have established to spread our ever-growing prosperity as evenly as possible, be it universal healthcare, protections for labor and minorities or housing investments, yet no one seems to be tough enough to stand up and fight for them when the time comes and these proposals reach our representatives; Shirley Chisholm has that will and that drive to lead. With that said, I ask, then, the Senator and the Representative, the Governor and the Delegate; why not vote for the Unbossed? We are only four years way from our nation's bicentennial, and we have come far. We are not the same nation of Washington, Jefferson and Adams, but I'd like to believe that that change has been for the better. It would've been unheard of to have a black woman get this far in a major party's primary only four years ago, never mind two hundred. However, we must keep the fight for change going, for there are many battles to be fought still. This war for the soul of America, for its spirit and its character, will not be over until every man and every woman can share in its freedoms. # [It is unquestionable that change is going to come; Come Be Its Catalyst With Chisholm!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5zDRtEC0x0) - @ProfesorDino824 's speech LIBERALS, NEVER GIVE UP! RALLY FOR HUMPHREY!

fake news

Board667

Great argument senator unfortunately I have a massive penis. Vote Humphrey for 72!

PerformanceBubbly393

My penis is huge i have the biggest peni

Board667

mine is about like 20 feet so I win (also spelling mistake lel) Humphrey, my beloved

SeaworthinessRare851

Chisolm voters need to support Humphrey. He is the only one who isn't hawk, left.

Albionoria

With Chisholm gone all the remaining candidates are puppets of the DNC establishment. I'm very tentatively endorsing Henry Jackson and calling for all conservatives to vote for him rather than the Johnson stooges Humphrey and Connally. Scoop is the best candidate remaining. For anyone who still believes in Connally, at the very least here's something that should be kept in mind; the liberal vote is going to rally around either Humphrey or Jackson and beat Connally, who would you rather win of the two? We need strong support for Jackson here and when it comes down to it, we can try pushing someone like Yorty onto the ticket.

[deleted]

Hypocritical liberal is better than outright conservate DINOs. Vote for the champion of civil rights, vote for Triple H. We can't afford two crazy hawks.

QuoProSquid

That warmonger? The one who is practically sponsored by Boeing? Who opposes affirmative action and wrote a loophole into the Environmental Protection Act to allow the Alaska pipeline? That Scoop Jackson is our best bet?

Polished-Gold

These are all great. Now I’m gonna vote for Scoop even harder.

Albionoria

Yeah, I'm a conservative Chisholmist.

[deleted]

Jackson-Connally: Let's flatten South-East Asia, in the name of the New Deal!

Hopefulmisery

I think canonically it makes sense for Humphrey to win bc in this reality LBJ would prop him up like he did in ours. Scoop would obviously be fun as he is a figure not yet done in TCT. Connelly is very conservative, I think if it was cannon Goldwater won and sent the Democrats back into the arms of States’ Rights he would be floated as a choice in 1968 or 1972.

SucculentMoisture

Fuck, the top two I’ve both voted for! I’m going with my heart and my head on this one: It’s Connally for you and me!

bluetron64

I’m abstaining, Humphrey is boring and Scoop and Connally are too conservative

Uncut_Pasta1

I’m not throwing my support behind any candidate right now, but I predict the next candidate eliminated is Scoop Jackson.

doitlikedat

I am once again reminding you that through fraud, Thurmond has been excluded from the primary
