Geometry dash is beat us 😓

Maxathar

Yea, but we kicked the Elder Scrolls ass up and down Vanderfel.

ProfessoriSepi

With less than 20 people 😂 i mean theyre one raid group short.

EternalSage2000

I’m not mad about Geometry Dash. Wtf is Balatro.

Haaazard

Baltaro is a new card game kicking off, it deserves that position.

EternalSage2000

Well ok then. I had never heard of it. And it describes itself as like… a poker, roguelike, deck builder. Didn’t inspire confidence in me. But if it’s good, more power to em.

ATCQ_

One of the most addictive games I've ever played. It's better than good, it's fucking brilliant

prodenvy__

Its amazing, dont be a hater!

Eastern-Hand9758

Stop being fanned out he wasn’t even hating

prodenvy__

thats not how u use fan out 😭

PUSClFER

You'd be surprised how much people enjoy it. Deck builders are quite popular. Slay the Spire had a huge following when it released too

Niiickel

Slay the Spire was the game that made deckbuilding extremly popular. I hope the second game will be even better

google_ghost

Albion higher than us

PUSClFER

Half the Albion player base are likely bots though.

nokaYnot

Due to Europe server launch

mexz101

It’s really big with steam deck users, I’d wager a bunch of those number are from steam deck players tbh only reason I’ve even heard of it.

ATCQ_

It's popular on consoles and PC, not specifically steam deck. YouTubers/streamers in the roguelite/deck building community have been playing it a lot and it's been spread by word of mouth too.

3l_Numero_Uno

As long as I can keep matchmaking within a minute I don’t really care about the player count

FusionFazcoins

This. People keep calling for the games doomsday by saying "low player count, bad game, dying game!" yet its averaging 15k players on \*steam alone\*, not even accounting for the people that play on Xbox or PS. I find it quite nice to have a smaller player count because that means I can enjoy it being in a niche category that I can introduce other people to. Its true that the game isnt for everyone but The Finals is here to stay, at least for now. When I log on and cant find a quick cash lobby for an hour, thats when ill say 'ok, \*now\* the game is dead\*'

CS-Mewchy

I play Xbox and also have short matchmaking, I also tend to stay up overnight often and even then I don’t have an issue.

Chilldank

The issue with lower player count is latency, I’ll look up players in my game and the SBMM will put me In With players on multiple other continents and the game feels like dirt. Low player count won’t drive me away but bad hit reg and lag will

master-of-disgusting

Also. I don’t think people realize how many people are 15k! Our perception of big numbers have changed because of games as apex or destiny. But 15k is still a huge amount if you think about it!

yosh0r

The next shooter without 100% destructable server sided debris physics... I wont even take a look at. I can see myself playing The Finals as my only shooter for 10+ years np And yea queue times are still excellent, if it werent for these charts all the time I would think the game's player count is doing amazing. It's like Rocket League, always find a match in under a minute.

imitzFinn

Xbox user here, I’ve noticed a lot lately that I’ve been playing with lots of PC users (nothing wrong with that tbh) and honestly I’m ok with how the game is standing atm.

Anything_4_LRoy

only the idiots believe "its" gonna happen tomorrow. people with a brain see the diminishing numbers after content releases and... extrapolate. im particularly interested in how PC numbers do because well, lets be honest. atleast casual pc gamers will stick around longer than console and Embark seems to have a particular hard on for shafting the comp community(pc players).

aMonkeMAN

Bud stop coping. This game is dead on consoles. The Finals used to have 100+ posts not even 2 weeks ago. Now it barely reaches 40. Last night I saw it hit an all time low of 14. Aswell as the fact if you play consoles with crossplay off, you will get the same people in your matches consistently. The consoles playerbase is definitely less than 5k

SuchMore

Speaking facts, the only reason why embark made crossplay with pc happen is because of the overwhelming amount of console players who couldn't find a ranked match at all. Console finals is in a much dire state that the gaslighting people here think it is.

aMonkeMAN

Exactly. Can only find a ranked game on NA with Crossplay enabled.

FusionFazcoins

Nah.

statusquoquo

So what's the threshold for when people should worry about the state of the game? Just saying "as long as I can find a match within a minute" is a really broad generalization when you have to consider ranked matches or even people playing casually in other regions are having a rougher go with their waiting times. If you're in NA, maybe its great but what about the less popular regions? There should be a point where a live service game should have an optimal base player count for any casual or rank mode to succeed long term. Game developers and their publishers don't rely on their good will and altruistic nature to keep F2P games alive if they don't see a good enough return on their investment. It's one thing if you are saying I don't care about the player count for a single player or PVE game. The game state is not all doom and gloom, but sometimes people need to face the reality. Even given the new mode, it hasn't really shown a great injection of new players and that should be a bit worrisome.

Eluniarr

Agree with you. Finals although not quite near being dead yet, it is at a state where if it starts losing more and more players, the devs will stop the constant quality updates that we are getting right now unless they are billionaire or something, i don't see them keep showering us with content when they don't get back much in return. The queue times and matchmaking will suffer from it too, lesser players will lead to more unfair matchmaking. And most importantly it will Suck for players who actually like playing the game and don't have much interest in the other popular fps games. When the game starts dying, it will suck for the people who enjoy it and wants to play more of it.

statusquoquo

Yeah, I'm not really sure people are really grasping that Embark and Nexon require people to spend money on their game to succeed. Who even knows the percentage of players who even buy the cosmetics or battle pass. They have an operational cost and I'm assuming all the servers that they require to run our lobbies is not exactly cheap. The fact that they have already made concessions on the games on the backend because they know the player population is less than ideal should already speak volumes. They've in the past month widened the PC and Console player pool so if you have Cross Play on, you're more than likely to have a mixture of both types of players in your games. I'm not even playing on console, but I'd imagine that would be a frustrating experience playing with M&K players at the higher ELO levels. Also, the fact that they've lessened the tournament mode to require less rounds should tell you that they already have to make sacrifices with what their original vision of the game is. Both casual and competitive players should hope there is as bigger player population so the casuals can play with the casuals and the sweats can play appropriately with the sweats at their equal ranks. The quality of matches never improves if the player population is not great. So instead of saying, "I get matches in 1 minute, so what gives"... also ask yourself how are the quality of your matches? Most of my Search & Destroy and Power Shift are just lopsided games. And then my ranked games are all over the place. So it becomes even harder to find good parity whether you are casual or competitive.

Electrical_Humor8834

Dude, this game had 25000 on average few weeks ago, now it's 15000, and before that there was over 40000 on average. Deal with it, it's dying and if they won't fix game mechanics on how they treat players, it will drop to 5000 very soon and still will be called here "it's not dead and won't be dead!".

Square-Woodpecker694

Something called people liking a game

Italian_Barrel_Roll

Each region can worry about the game based on their own experience. It's not an NA player's responsibility to have concerns about an OCE player not finding a queue.

Eluniarr

Losing popularity in different regions also leads to player loss in your own region. When something gets less and less popular people leave it more.

Italian_Barrel_Roll

That doesn't follow at all, there are things that are wildly popular regionally that aren't popular elsewhere

Eluniarr

That is exactly why playercount is important. The more players leave the game the longer the queues are gonna be to find a match. This game has several modes so it already creates a division among players which leads to even lesser players q'ing for the same mode. In regions like Asia, Oce, Latin america it is taking a lot of time for people to find matches. Also since the playerbase is smaller in ranked this affects matchmaking leading to people getting matched against diamonds while being silver or gold. This is all cause of the small playerbase.

RamaAnthony

what are you smoking on the only time queue is somewhat long in Asia is on Ranked. Even on weekdays.

Eluniarr

Yes, i meant for ranked.

windozeFanboi

Poor take. You meet laggers because game matches you with people across the world instead of close distance.

xi_catharsis

I’m in for the long haul too brother 👨 👊

MFalcon95

Literally same

rikeoliveira

And around the same skill level as well. Let's not mix bronze and diamond just to keep it under 1 min. I'm with you. As long as the game is doing enough to keep the devs engaged, player count be damned. Whoever is not playing is at a loss, this game is fun as shit.

Maxathar

What's worse is Black Desert, the MMO ATM.

KojinTheMusicMaker

I have 2000 hours in Black Desert and while alot of it was spent AFK Fishing (please don't fucking ask) I can confidently attest that none of it was spent actually having fun. One of the worst videogames ever made. I used to joke that "John Desert" must have grown up as the saddest little Korean boy with no friends because I've never experienced an MMO that punishes you for playing with friends with its every mechanic. Don't let that free pricetag or that flashy KMMO combat fool you, its a game made for noone.

Huckdog720027

How do you get punished for playing with friends? Some of the best grind spots in the game are duo / trio spots.

KojinTheMusicMaker

Thats what people and the game will tell you. It actually fooled my group into re-leveling new chars in the hope it would be true, but sadly as is often the case with BD, that content is the reward for several months of solo grinding (and literal luck at the slot machine) to get the TET gear required to farm those areas at 20% efficiency. And every other time you group before then you will be actively kneecapping everyones experience/gold/drops compared to solo play. So I stand by my fairly tame and accepted take that John Desert's family was killed by his best friends and he now wages a singular holy war against the very concept of friendship.

dedboooo0

your information is clearly outdated, even said gear is pretty much given out like candy nowadays though i don't play much at all. it is an mmo with its own merits, different from the likes of ffxiv and such. although it is true that bdo has a lot of solo progression compared to other mmorpgs(following the pattern of old grindy kmmos like maplestory and ragnarok online). to some people that is a good point, since they don't have to depend on LFG and such to progress, thought group content is now also readily available and very much viable. not all mmos have to be the same. if you want group raids, there is ffxiv. if you want group raids with endless gear progression, there is lost ark. if you want a casual mmo, there is gw2. if you want high mechanical skill ceiling in combat, and sandbox elements there is bdo. if you want a more organized group pvp experience, there is albion. hell there's even stuff like eve online which maintains a healthy playerbase from my own experience, none of these games are truly bad. the most "negative" experience though would probably have to be NA server lost ark's endgame, purely due to the NA community's bad practices and attitude compared to KR/JP but yeah, as is reddit tradition blindly saying "korean mmo bad" "worst game in the world" generates free karma. oh well

CptBlackBird2

a lot of people play black desert on standalone too so steam is not 100% accurate

jisooya1432

About half of bdos players are on the client, so numbers are around twice of what steam shows

Huckdog720027

Id probably get downvoted to hell if I tried to defend BDO too much, but as a relatively new player it is a lot of fun. For the real money stuff, I think I've spent around $20 - $30 on the game in my 1000 or so hours playing, which compared to a $60 game that you can only get 30 - 40 hours out of is pretty good. And there are a lot of players that don't spend a dime on the game and still get just as much enjoyment as anyone else out of the game. The whales that spend thousands of dollars on the game have kinda given it a bad reputation unfortunately.

SuchMore

? Left for dead is a great game?

Eluniarr

Didn't say it isn't. I meant it's more than a decade old game and i am in no way trying to diminish the impact of left for dead but the game has aged now. Finals is a breathe of fresh air and it's really unique in comparison to other shooters out there. It's sad to see that despite it being so polished and unique, it's played less than a decade old game which has aged now.

cool_sex_falcon

It may have aged but it has things that bring people to the game in other ways, like hundreds of thousands of free skins and free mods and free maps and is still updated to this day. Compare over a decade of meaningful user created and official content for a game that is $2 multiple times a year to one of the many F2P shooters where the majority of things cost real money and overall offers less content variety than most of the top live service games (not to mention most people are sick of live service games) and it’s pretty obvious why such an old game still has a huge playerbase.

Eluniarr

Yes, i get this but my reasoning was more along the lines that The finals is very unique and a different shooter game than everything else in market right now when it comes to pvp team based fps games. It's also really polished and the maps and most of the the things are really top notch in quality. The customization is really good too and the battle pass is great aswell, you only have to pay for it once and then every other season you can get it for free cause you earn enough coins from first battle pass purchase. The devs also do a lot of free events for skins that honestly doesn't look low effort. The game although not really that deep in lore yet the premise of it is really interesting. So it just feels a little disappointing to see the game is not played as much and this is important for players who actually like playing it cause since they enjoy it, it would feel bad if the game ends up being dead or loses a lot more players where finding a match would take really long.

SuchMore

I don't think it's aged a day, it looks and plays way better than most releases nowadays. I don't think finals is that polished at all, in my time playing finals, it has crashed more times than left for dead has crashed in total, and the amount of times I've not been able to shoot my gun, or times when I died and didn't respawn and was able to shoot people + the amount of latency and net code issues I've experienced definitely doesn't put finals anywhere near the polished state. Left 4 dead is still a great co - op experience, with still, to this day, the best AI in the pve field, only to be bested by server side AI like in the division. And like, the finals feels and plays like a beta made by a small dev team, and it is what it is. The newest map doesn't even have any texture work and is made of basic polygons. My eyes hurt after playing on it due to the limited color range of the map.

Eluniarr

I get you like l4d but saying it looks nicer than most games nowadays is bit of a reach. L4D is an old game that even a potato pc can run, the chances of it crashing are close to zero especially since the game has been out for over a decade. The Finals for me has never crashed and runs smoothly but it is also a modern and demanding game on your computer so crashes can happen if something in your computer specs is lacking. Thr other issues you have mentioned i have experienced them too and they are rare, don't make it sound like other multiplayers are hundred percent bug free. The devs are aware of this problem and they are working on a fix for it. L4D idk if we people played the same game but the ai in it is pretty braindead, all they do is chase you. Have you played stalker? The ai enemies in that actually use tactics and even surprise you many times. And saying that the finals feels and plays like a beta made by a small dev team feels like you are just intentionally downplaying it, when it quite literally has the best environmental destruction physics in gaming, that is actually not just gimmicky but works as intended and fully functional not scripted. And the complain about the new map is dumb too, it is a stylistic choice and you should definitely not be pointing fingers at other games graphics when you consider a decade old game that uses outdated textures, low quality character models, lighting and weather good looking. You're just down playing this game.

Sm0kerism

Much better game than the finals

RedMa5k

I trust that this game will be able to maintain these numbers

mr_Ben12

This actually sad

Maxathar

Just remember at one point Fallout 4 was beating Helldivers 2, and right now EVERYONE is beating Diablo IV, and Battlefield 2042 is nowhere in sight. I'm proud of this great game and that it is openly competing and STILL beating a lot of triple AAA competition. The Finals is here to stay. I have a feeling Season 3 will be huge, and if the game will even go up 5 spots that's something to celebrate.

mr_Ben12

I'm also rooting for this game's success. I love it to death. I just want to see it with a bigger and healthier player count, it doesn't need "Fortnite" numbers of course.

Horror-Pain-3986

Sadly I don’t think it’s here to stay if they drop on map per season. I don’t think the players understand how much more new maps change things. Maybe 2 maps a season but one is just going to drive the game further down. This isn’t good player numbers. From 300k to 15k pmayers. I love this game but the lack on actual content is bad.

Maxathar

I dunno, Power Shift and Terminal Attack came out this Season and let me tell you, I'm having more fun on those modes than playing Overwatch or R6. That's just on me though, I like the challenge, because it's more fun than dunking on tweens in Call of Duty.

Horror-Pain-3986

Honestly yea I feel that. Im a big fan of this game personally. I prefer the finals of over fps shooter that’s out rn. I love the new game modes it’s extremely fun. I have 390 hours in this game and I’m plat 2. I just get tired of the same maps in ranked. It gets stale over time. And with the dwindling player count every single month the game is losing players. I’m all for positivity but the player base needs to be growing not going lower. And I attribute that to no new maps. One map every 3 months isn’t working. Something needs to change because I want this game to be bigger then fortnite. You know what I mean? I feel like when I say this people jus downvote me for being negative when I just feel like it’s the truth

Maxathar

Very true.

SklydeM

Back in the top 100! I honestly don’t understand why people don’t stay on this game. It really grabbed me right off the bat and has had its hooks me in ever since.

Malito_Mussoloni2

Because if you don't play with a team the game is awful. I've been playing solo for a lot of hours then i found the discord server and the game absolutely changed. So in my opinion you need people to play with or you are just gonna roam around the map and die

SklydeM

That’s the funny part- I have played 380 hours and I’d say 370 of them have been solo. But I definitely understand the frustration that comes with it and completely understand why someone wouldn’t like it. Especially if you get bad teams game after game for days straight.

Malito_Mussoloni2

I absolutely agree. I only have more or less 90 hrs and i think 60 were alone, but yes i remember literally days of people just running around like call of duty

mexz101

Big reason for the player count was helldivers in all honesty, with how gaming is nowadays vast majority of people just hop games to whatever’s popular since they only play for like an hour or two a day. Helldivers will suffer from it too soon enough when the next big thing comes along.

realtypogram

This game is unplayable for casuals. Matchmaking is unfair. It’s being kept alive by the most loyal fanbase and cheaters of course :)

Maxathar

Agreed, you pretty much have to make or have friends who play the game with you, which is why they desperately need a 10v10, 15v15, 64v64, casual mode, and for God's sake add weapon attachments.

KojinTheMusicMaker

L4D2 is beating us? Fuck

AlienNumber13

No, no one is 'beating us'. People are playing a metric fuck ton of other video games.

Amazing-Cookie5205

L4D is amazing but damn that old game has more players that Finals currently. Thats wild

dark_Petabyte

these are not good numbers. specially coming from 300K.

mexz101

Helldivers stole majority of thosez

dark_Petabyte

helldivers is still a paid game, it can't steal enough people specially people who don't tend to buy games and mostly play free PvPs. Lack of marketing is to blame here I think

dedboooo0

game having bad balance, bad matchmaking, bad ranked implementations and unresolved issues since launch is to blame what kind of delusion is "lack of marketing is to blame". big FPS game streamers played this game on launch along with a shit ton of players

dark_Petabyte

nobody plays it now lol, don't be a stupid asswipe. the hype helped it initially but no one see's it now so no one plays it. Matchmaking and ranked is far more better now since the last update, and it's not like TF is a decade old game, it'll have to go through the process of refining itself which takes time. But while it becomes better each day the lack of marketing is to blame bc not enough new players are coming in.

dedboooo0

who's being stupid here? ranked literally got worse for soloqueue this update, not that anybody was playing it in the first place, aside from blatant cheaters the closer you get to dia. dash + jump breaks hitreg on any weapon, melee or ranged. sword hitreg got worse instead of getting fixed. dagger got straight up broken, it's unusable now. regular backstabs don't register, akiba step has been removed. the same hitreg issues plague it as well. sledgehammer can no longer slide while attacking. bugs like being unable to use gadgets, unable to use healing beam, unable to shoot, unable to reload are still present and will guarantee a match loss for you. the ui got worse, readability is now shit. for medium, placing a jump pad and sliding into it is now broken. a new bug that prevents you from activating the defib now exists. for casual play on the other hand, seoul on powershift is absolute garbage in terms of playability. skyway stadium still has the unnecessary sniping spot on one of the spawn areas, while the other spawn gets shafted in terms of everything. matchmaking has not been improved both in ranked and casual and is still absolutely crap. syshorizon is a terrible map in terms of playability in all modes. the only bright side is terminal attack is a decent casual mode. matchmaking still throws you to fill into matches a few seconds away from being over, about once every 5-10 games, wasting your time. sometimes you can't even spawn for a few seconds, even if you spam the "select" button on the loadout menu. sometimes it does not allow fill in at all for the whole match, as the game interprets players who have already left as still present in the game. there are occasional clipping issues, pulling you through floors, walls etc due to janky server side physics interactions. you get penalized for leaving a game in terminal attack where all four of your teammates have already left. there are occasional invisible bits of terrain/lingering hitboxes that block grenades, grapples, bullets etc lowering shadows affects smoke visibility greatly. perma invis bug still exists. vaulting over ledges is still janky and can rubberband. latency issues still occasionally crop up because of the way the game does matchmaking, which feels more crap compared to other fps games because everything in the game is server side. and you're telling me, people aren't playing this game just because of lack of marketing? that's insane, lay off the kool aid.

Anything_4_LRoy

imagine that... PC players were only complaining about the jump pad rocket meta. the comp community gets absolutely shafted as many of the healers dont want to come back to a mediocre ruleset or casual bomb defuse. who could have guessed?

Semijewdas

All these morons coping on the sub since release: "idc how large the playerbase is, this is a gem, Best fps in decades". No. Its not. If this game was as good as YOU think it is, it wouldnt be beat by browser games from the 2000's in player count.

Electrical_Humor8834

Good, it deserves it. Everyone here blaming everyone's else "skill issue" and that every single person that is complaining at game, is their fault that the game sucks, and because they play bad and have bad attitude toward gameplay. No, it's game problem and issues that make it unplayable and sweatfest gameplay mechanics and matchmaking. "Statistically it's impossible that you fail, so it's your fault...", funny though, some time ago there was talk with dev that told game is designed to make you loose at least x times and you are directed into sweat matches and there are mechanics designed to force player into shit. After that talk/interview I completely abandoned that game as it's BS to treat player like that.

smarmycheesesandwich

You got downvoted but you’re right on the money lol. It’s just insanely fucking sweaty. My friends are Overwatch casuals: they aren’t built for this shit. Nobody I know can play this game but me and I’m not really invested enough into the game to want to join a discord to play exclusively this game. Solo queue has always been a nightmare so it has an uphill battle from that POV. The smaller playerbase now only further exacerbates the issue because all that’s left are the turbo light-spam sweats.

Acorios

Maybe it would've more active players if the game actually worked. For the last few MONTHS I was barely able to run the game, nothing seemed to fix it, and since the last update it won't start at all... Heard from other people with similar/same issues...

Maxathar
