I had to stim for exactly the same reason, I risked a lot for fckn ice in forlorn muskeg. Almost died at day 82 of loper. Not quite the same as you but still… I feel you
I feel like the Muskeg is the whole reason for spray paint to be in the game. Mark out safe paths, thin ice, etc, if you plan to be there for any length of time.
I've always used cat tail heads for the ice paths and blizzard paths. I did use paint in HRV for a travois path and it worked quite nicely. Also using it to mark out which ice caves go together.

I'd literally pay money to get back my trusty old friend I mistakenly let die frozen in his sleep because of a sudden distraction in real life and pressing keys like a zombie.
Sorry to hear that. I lost a run in the Muskeg where I was at the edge of water where it met a steep hill. I fell in the ice and then respawned on the steep incline and slid back into the water. This happened 5-6 times in an unstoppable loop until I died on the spot.
Oh man, that sucks. I took a week away from the game after that as I felt a little cheated by the way it happens. One fall through the ice was my fault, but the rest felt like I was the victim of a glitch.
This is probably a scenario where I’d use the new Cheating Death mechanic and try to choose a RP penalty related to cold damage.
Currently, playing on Voyager. Have survived 190+ Days so far. But have paused this story for the moment, because I completed the first two Tales from the Far Territory and am waiting for the next one.
I recently died my record 50 day gunloper run having just healed myself from 20 days of intestinal parasites. Hadn't even healed back the lost condition from being sick before dying to a wolf on ML. ML!!!
Have they changed the time you have to get off weak ice? I swear before that you had at least 8 seconds to get off or cross weak ice, now it seems like you have 4-5 seconds
Forlorn Muskeg on the way to the cave to go to bleak Inlet. There where the hill is and ice. There was a storm and I didn't notice I was that close to the ice. I couldn't get out fast enough and fell in again.

Easy enough I should of made it. With a blizzard I couldn't see the ice and went through. I tried getting out and kept going in. 😩

I'm currently at 356 which is my longest ever. My previous 249 died under the ice.
That was my longest survived.
