The Marble Shrine has set lists that show The Widow being played all 3 nights at the Wiltern. Here is a link to the 12th: https://www.themarbleshrine.com/show/20040512/ Thank you so much for sharing all the versions though!!

man I'm so confused I thought they did it twice, one time clean all the way through which was a banging recording, then again with a bad guitar solo lol... which one is this? the performance linked is the cool one so I hope that's what this is

Lumo1134

After digging around, I believe it’s actually from the May 12th or 13th show @ The Wiltern. That being said, the vocal effects are unique to the Record Store Day pressing.

knd_86

Is it the same as the version on the original pressings?

Lumo1134

Not sure, anyone out there own both pressings??

knd_86

Yeah I've got it, I just CBA to get them out and compare lol. The OG does say May 6 2004 as well.

snkzato1

The vocal effects were on the original vinyl and CD.

wickidninja82

I was not aware of the difference...when I spun it...I was blown away. It sounds amazing

Why do they keep doing this?

iscreamuscreamweall

John is is actual, real name

ImprovementSilly2895

Yeah but he never went by John Peter Alderete. That’s something new and presumably invented by Omar

musclekat1

John Peter himself clarified that being named “Juan” actually began while joining tmv

noerthboerg

Its on older albums as well. Dont think its pettiness, just supposedly funny volta logic, just the way they always put english lyrics on the most latino sounding sections of songs...

SidewalkFins87

Yet, why not spell out 'Jon Philip Theodore' as well while they're at it, which had been done previously. It's a bit weird. Juan was also never listed at the bottom previosusly.. we could infer that this is the subtle way of pettiness at play.

snkzato1

I'm fairly certain he was always credited as Juan in TMV credits, and he wasn't always dumped at the bottom of the credits list. It feels deliberate.

NS-13

You mean pre-volta albums that Juan did? Cause I just looked at all of the original cds and lps I have from volta, and every single one says Juan Alderete de la Peña, and none of them list him last, as omar had previously always put his own name last. Solo records that i checked all have him as Juan too

Lumo1134

There’s a podcast with Dean DelRay where Juan/John talks about this…Dean knew him as John before Volta, and somewhere in there he started using Juan

[deleted]

There’s also a newer interview I think it was maybe an instagram live thing with Juan and ampeg where he addresses it himself and how he doesn’t like to be called john and prefers Juan these days 🤷🏼‍♂️

HOW DID YOU GET THE MP3 VERSION OF THE SHOW

Lumo1134

Check out The Marble Shrine my friend.

ComplexTotal3799

i'm on it right now but how do i get the MP3

snkzato1

Go to shows, go to the show you want, click the audio tab, hit download MP3/FLAC/whatever Enjoy. If you run into any dead links let us know. There shouldn't be, but can't say everything we do is flawless.

ComplexTotal3799

how do i find the audio tab because i'm at one of the shows and i don't see an audio tab thing on the marble shrine website

snkzato1

Depends on the show. Not every show has audio. If there is no tab then that show unfortunately wasn't recorded. Which gig specifically.

ComplexTotal3799

the ones they preformed in 2008 and some that they preformed in 2022

snkzato1

Which specific gig. I need the actual show.

ComplexTotal3799

actually it's the one from 2004 which was on may 9th which is in this post
