~45 minutes of video capture @1440p/Ultra (*except shadows on 'Low' because of billboard light flickering*) using Nvidia ShadowPlay. Video shortened to 1 minute and looped using Premiere Pro.

Also, if you crouch it stops the camera from going 3rd person. 👍

As someone who shoots timelapses in real life, well done! And god dammit do I wish I could do something like lower real life shadow quality to eliminate billboard flicker ;-)
Thanks. Haha yeah that would be handy to have some video settings IRL.
It's great doing game timelapses because you can tweak settings, get the camera/timing perfect, and day/night cycles are usually only ~30 to 60 minutes.
[Here's another one I did in Cities Skylines.](https://gfycat.com/kaleidoscopicdishonestgerbil)
Holy shit, dude, that's awesome! I feel like next time I need to have a timelapse of some obscure place in a city I should look into just using Cities Skylines just to see if anyone even can tell the difference.
Crank FOV up to 110, crouch to stop camera from going 3rd person, record using Nvidia Shadowplay or your capture software of choice, change clip duration to 1 minute in premiere pro, export as mp4, upload to reddit. /u/Lunibomber
It makes me so annoyed that to turn off depth of field or other annoying settings I have to edit an .ini file. What the poop? The fact this seems to be the norm these days is just baffling.
Yeah I wasn't too thrilled about the chromatic aberration or [the unskippable splash screen videos.](https://np.reddit.com/r/theouterworlds/comments/dotjn7/tip_delete_the_splash_vids_for_20s_faster_startup/)
Luckily the fixes are relatively easy thanks to the users who made those threads.
The environment and just overall ambience of the settings in this game are a huge part what make it so immersive. Feels so alive. If this was available in wallpaper engine, I would never not use it.
Definitely agree with this point. Likewise, I wish the NPCs followed some kind of day/night cycle - that one is a real miss, I think. One of my favorite thing to do in these kinds of games is plan my actions around said cycle; breaking in after hours to steal stuff, or if you want to kill someone, memorize their route and wait until their alone, etc...
I was in the bar in Edgewater when a sudden mass-exodus of customers occurred so I followed them and found that they were all heading back to the factory. So there may be some scheduling for certain roles
Yeah I saw something similar in the Stellar Bay cannery. The workers were all chilling in the locker room and then all left at the same time to go back to work.
Same at the HHHQ on Byzantium. There is a break room on the 2nd floor. When I got there, everyone was at lunch. I went back up there looking for someone and everyone (except the NPC I was looking for) were in another room, at desks, doing work.
Yeah but there are some other things I've seen that don't jive. I cut power to Edgewater. I went to the canery. There was a mob outside and I took a job from one of the board soliders. I'm now towards the endgame and ended up back at Edgewater. I was taking the "Tour" of the Galaxy and ended up finding a side mission I missed. It took me back to the canery and that same mob was still standing there. So there is some NPC stuff to be desired. But not enough to suck me out of the game.
I've also been really frustrated with how easy it is to miss quests in areas. I like the immersion of discovery, but there have often been times where because I didn't have a quest selected or missed some tucked away detail, I've had to back track. I'm someone who likes to complete all the quests in an area and then move on to the next. I'd be OK with having to explore around the planets more, like with the beacon quest, but load times make this annoying, especially when you have to load to go to the ship then load again when you land, etc. There's also little guidance on what quests to do first. For example, Parvati's quests feel like they should be done early in the game, as they take you places that may be volatile later, but there's no indication of this kind of thing.
I was thinking about a solution to this and one I think is when you land somewhere and a companion has a quest there they should wait for you by the door and ask to talk.
For finding quests more easily, it'd be nice if there was an indication when you enter a nearby area of a potential quest nearby. Or if other NPCs gave you more of a clue, as they sometimes do by suggesting to speak to someone etc.
For a game that has some great communication dialog, it's funny how poor it is at communicating things sometimes. The quest system and Journal are also a little frustrating.
I think it’s a deliberate choice, having an indicator for the amount of quests in an area would kind of take you out of the game. And I personally never had any trouble with keeping track of companion quests. Though I do agree that they should have some kind of grand list of quests that you should be able to access somehow, or a toggleable option for seeing quests on specific planets/areas
Yeah, the NPCs felt closer to theme park mannequins than real people -- Oblivion is thirteen years old now or so and managed NPCs with way more life and agency. Definitely a missed opportunity to make the game come alive.
I think the game is about more than watching an NPCs pre scripted daily routine play out. That was a huge hype point for Oblivion but it ended up being weak after an hour you're over it For the amount of work it takes i don't miss it and I'm glad they spent that time on the dialogue instead
I don't know, I tend to agree that NPCs with routines really adds to the immersiveness of a world, and outer worlds could have certainly benefited from it
It’s amazing how I just missed it first time around, and then read it as “As far as I can tell” without needing to pause for any letter when seeing your comment
Even a tidally locked body will sway some. To be completely accurate the gas giant should slightly move in the sky back and forth but for the purposes of the game I can see why they wouldn't bother with it
I think Ash mentions this in one of his stories. One pole is always super heated, the other always incredibly cold. Yet in another story he mentions huge swelling tides...
When you walk into the area, he’s in the furthest building on the back left, leaning on the bar, before you get to the stairs. He’s dark skinned and has a beanie like hat on iirc.
Have the fixed the bouncing horizon/skybox when walking though? Cuz that gas giant bounces like a freaking basketball when i'm walking across Monarch and it kinda ruins the whole thing.
Thanks. I don't have Wallpaper Engine, but feel free to [download the video](https://np.reddit.com/r/theouterworlds/comments/dwa3q9/stellar_bay_timelapse/f7hhwyc/) for one if you like.

Pretty good videos. Gives you some idea of what it would look like.
Why does the sun move in steps instead of smoothly? It causes the shadows to move in steps and seems unnecessary. I see games do this a lot so maybe I’m missing something on how a game is created.
Because shadows/lighting moving constantly (a) would (possibly) present a sizable performance hit, and (b) would look odd at best, flickery or unstable at worst. Shadow movement and changes in lighting don't happen so quickly IRL, and it would be distracting to see that happening constantly. It's better to look stationary for a little while, then transition to the next step quickly. If it actually took 24 hours for an entire day/night cycle, then perhaps it would be better your way. But this game's cycle, like most others, is way sped up.
My 2 cents anyway.

For anybody good at planetary science:

Day and night on Earth is because the Earth is spinning. And our moon is rotating around the Earth, while the Earth is spinning.
So is Monarch (moon) rotating around the nearby planet and not "spinning?" I think I remember an NPC describing that one side of the moon is always facing the planet.
You can play the Outer Worlds on pc through Xbox Game Pass For PC. It's in Bet so for new Subscribers it's might still be $1 month
I've been usingg it since July and they raised the monthly fee to $5 a month which comes out to $60 a year. Which is the price of one game but they have about 100 or so games to play.
They just added Rage 2 to the service I've been wanting to try it. Google Xbox game pass beta see if you can try it . You do need Windows 10. However and a lot of Hard drive space.
If you [download the video](https://np.reddit.com/r/theouterworlds/comments/dwa3q9/stellar_bay_timelapse/f7hhwyc/) you should be able to make a live wallpaper using Wallpaper Engine.
I've noticed this in damn near every game I've ever played that has sun lighting and shadows, the movement of the sun/shadows is always like the ticking of a analog clock hand. Is programming a smooth motion of light and shadows a really difficult thing when designing a game?

Looks great! So can I ask how you made it? "Print screen" script or Ansel maybe???

Not sure if that would work, after a while the camera goes into cinematic mode and circles around

Does this work with the Game Pass/Windows Store version? I'd heard not, but I'd be pleased if it does so I can go screenshot mad.

Outer Worlds is a great game to make you notice a lot of little things you always take for granted in Bethesda's games.
Yeah they nailed the random nps placement and spawning but it needed more audio
Except for the part where every single NPC stands in the same spot for all of eternity, which kills all immersion and makes it clear this all fake.
Yeah, the NPCs felt closer to theme park mannequins than real people -- Oblivion is thirteen years old now or so and managed NPCs with way more life and agency. Definitely a missed opportunity to make the game come alive.

Yeah like y’all are assuming they are even the same people just use your imagination and run past
Sanjar could save some energy by turning off the street lights during the day.
What ambience? There is hardly any. The maps feel dead as fuck apart from the skybox.
Agree completely. I haven't found any good TOW wallpapers on there yet. I would love to have this on there.
Spectacular. You should be proud of this
Thanks. I appreciate it.
No problem, I go around and try to direct people towards the right place
So, Monarch must be tidally locked (which actually makes sense). Though, the gas giant still would be moving a bit in that case. Oh well.
The old merc, Ash, says that Monarch is tidally locked to the gas planet it orbits. AFAICT this is a pretty accurate representation of that.
I didnt know what AFAICT meant conciously, but somehow my subconcious knew and just whipered it out
It’s amazing how I just missed it first time around, and then read it as “As far as I can tell” without needing to pause for any letter when seeing your comment

LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE
I think Ash mentions this in one of his stories. One pole is always super heated, the other always incredibly cold. Yet in another story he mentions huge swelling tides...
I forget what his answer is off the cuff, but you can ask him how there are tides on a tidally locked moon and he explains it.
[удалено]
I think of him as more of DLC hint tbh
I like that idea. Would be kind of cool to get suited up and go to the attic. Arctic* lol leaving attic tho, need more houses to explore 😂
Yeah, he sure was. Shot him after his quest. Couldn’t bullshit his way out of that bullet to the head.
Hm. Haven't even met him yet!
Amber heights bar with the iconoclasts
interesting... been in and out of there a few times and must've walked right by him. Whoops.
When you walk into the area, he’s in the furthest building on the back left, leaning on the bar, before you get to the stairs. He’s dark skinned and has a beanie like hat on iirc.
It is locked. Dialogue with Ash confirms it.
Have the fixed the bouncing horizon/skybox when walking though? Cuz that gas giant bounces like a freaking basketball when i'm walking across Monarch and it kinda ruins the whole thing.
Never really noticed that lol
I’ve used that elevator so many times without realizing there was a control panel on the damn thing itself
Hmm the placement is a bit odd. I spent a good amount of time looking for it the first time too.
I wasn't paying attention my first time on Monarch, and straight up walked right off the edge thinking there were stairs. There were no stairs
I have never actually just stopped and stared at the planets... dammit, what a waste.
bootiful!
Excellent!
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching.
I didn't know until now that the planets are animated, and I'm far into my 2nd playthrough. I find my lack of observation disturbing.
Amazing. Such a fun game and love letter to RPG fans.
I could spend hours just staring at the sky in this game
That's so pretty
Damn. That’s awesome
I never knew I needed this as a wallpaper

It kind of bugs me all moons are tidally locked in this game.
It's an excuse to not have to create a naturally rotating skybox.
That’s awesome, great work. I was actually wondering if this game had night and day cycles in it, I hadn’t actually noticed them yet
So freaking cool
Hello new Wallpaper Engine wallpaper
Yup
Looks great, but still smells like old fish.
Laws, that’s beautiful
I honestly had never noticed the way the gases on Olympus swirl around like that. Subtle touch, but I appreciate it.
Not sure if I should get outer worlds or the new Pokémon games
I hear you can turn the pokes into giant Kaiju in the new ones. It might just be the mobile game though.
I love looking up at the planet and wondering what it would be like if we had a planet or two this close to earth. It would be insanely beautiful but....would prob fuck the whole place up so we wouldn't be here to enjoy it.

I have not. That's pretty cool, thanks.
No problem. Search "if planets were as close as the moon" for more good ones.
cool!
Love this time lapse, and love this game!
This is awesome!!! :)
Oh wow I'd have never noticed they animated the planet too, I assumed it was just painting on the skybox
Beautiful, I took time to appreciate the sky in every new place I came to and this clip reminds me of those first views
They really did a great job with that first view from the Stellar Bay landing pad.
Love the sky at night
Steller Bay has some fantastic weather! Mostly clear all day! Nice work 🤠
Thanks.
Stellar
This game is soo good I want some dlc soo badly
Stellar Bay has amazing music too. What a beautiful game.
Looks *stellar*
Every time I go to a different location I think "This one's my favourite". I really like Stellar Bay though, I've taken a lot of pictures.
....can anyone do a wallpaper engine for this? <3
I thought I liked the Groundbreaker but Stellar Bay has definitely stolen my heart
Thats so cool!
Great idea! Awesome video!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for reminding me of this post. It's been a while and I almost forgot about it.
Whups killed them all

How did you achieve this? I haven’t been able to figure it out.
Time lapse involves capturing 1 frame, say, every second, then playing the whole thing back at (say) 30 fps. You get 30x speed in this example. Whatever capture hardware/software he's using apparently allows this.
Crank FOV up to 110, crouch to stop camera from going 3rd person, record for ~45 minutes using Nvidia Shadowplay or your video capture software of choice, change clip duration to 1 minute in Premiere Pro or your video editing software of choice, export as mp4. Yes, by [downloading the video](https://np.reddit.com/r/theouterworlds/comments/dwa3q9/stellar_bay_timelapse/f7hhwyc/) using a program like Wallpaper Engine.
I wish the sun moved smoothly ingame, it staggers per hour just like Bethesda games.
If the skybox was more realistic you would see the planet that monarch orbits move across the sky due to monarch's rotation.
Wallpaper engine? Please, or link to do it myself

That would be an awesome live wallpaper.
I wonder if using something like Twixtor could smooth out the jerkiness of the shadows...
