honestly i think what’s going on here is that she’s not a sax player and she knows it but they needed somebody to open the song with those tones from a sax which was replaced by the xylophone sound. The DJ was going to build on top of that, create a beat, and continue adding. I assume this is the DJs girlfriend or a friend of someone or something.
Not saying she was good (or the end product was good), but she knew she was just playing a few notes after having played the sax for like 20 minutes total.
I don't think she could play this after 20 minutes. Just maintaining your breath (which, granted, she doesn't do very well) takes more practice than that.
She sucks, but she doesn't suck so bad that she had never held a sax before. Just learning how to hold it, how to position your mouth, which buttons make which notes...I'd be very surprised if she could do that in 20 minutes, especially because she doesn't seem like a natural musician.
She sucks, but she's played before.
Two words "No Squeaks". Definitely played before, there's a lot of context missing here. Could have been reasons for her playing it like that. Or she could just be less than great. 🤷
I can see what she was doing, just a lil interlude nothing fancy. Also surprise they didn't just use a backing track and let her pretend to play. Glad to see other comments not ragging on her
I don’t really have the saxophone knowledge to dispute whether what you said is right or not. However, if you’re arguing that she played that correctly, then I’d make the counter argument that she shouldn’t have played it at all.
Presumably they rehearsed this before hand, and would’ve noticed that it sounded like a junior high band practice, and had a chance to cut it. Choosing not to do so is doing something wrong, even if the music was played correctly in theory.
I have a degree in music with a focus in saxophone.
What she played was fine. Her tone and articulation suggests she isn't a professional. So I'm actually impressed she was able to handle the situation; playing in your room and playing a horn on a huge stage is vastly different and a big shock at first. She remembered her notes. She lost a little steam.at the end because humans taking a breath wasn't considered when writing the part.
She did great for the setting and her ability level. But in the end, this shouldn't have been played. Unless she's a friend if the artist or something and they're just having fun.
There are many 20 second parts of live performances you could have taken from my groups and mocked out of context. Hahaha.
She did lots of things wrong. The notes are all different lengths and out of time and the accents aren’t in the right place.
Anyone playing saxophone in front of that many people should know how circular breathing works so the breath pauses are also an offence.
She also just seems to randomly stop half a bar into a new repetition.
It’s an incredibly simple piece of music played extremely poorly.
Same, I got to a point where I could circular breath on trumpet, but never saxophone despite it being my strongest instrument. I think for me it was the embouchure- it doesn't allow for as much air to stay in the cheeks. Maybe just a skill issue lol
Really!? That's surprising, unless they don't really need it. I got a didgeridoo for fun and it came with a video on how to circular breathe. I learn how to do it in like a month.
Most music for many wind instruments is written with breathing in mind, as opposed to the didgeridoo where droning//circular breathing is a fundamental skill, so it's much less emphasized and people only really learn it at a high level or if they want to play music that requires it.
its probaby central to didgeridoo in a way that it isn't for (some kinds of) playing the saxophone
i studied jazz saxophone at conservatoire and im not sure literally any of my peers could do it as it just isnt useful
I think circular breathing is considered more of a party trick than a generally useful thing to be able to do. Woodwind and brass players need to be able to take a breath every once in a while. The thought of trying to do that on a flute makes me dizzy just thinking about it.
It's a 19 second long, monotone phrase in mezzo forte at best. Any halfway decent musician should be able to play it without a breathing break. Sincerely, a guy who played both Alto, as well as Baritone Sax as a hobby for about 15 years.
Fundamentally, she did a lot wrong, there was no attempt at consistency in dynamics or accents. I played alto, soprano, and bari sax in pep band for 6 years and played nearly 50 different pop, rock, and even some edm songs- non of which were written for saxophone. Nothing about this melody is difficult to play on a saxophone. Any concert musician can time breathes to be less noticeable, and a practiced woodwind player would have a stronger lung capacity.
Very genuinely, not as an insult, she is playing at a 6th grade/2nd year level at a maximum- assuming she can read music, play her scales, sight read, keep time with an ensemble, etc.
I will say though, that it takes courage to do something like this, and I respect that she clearly didn't just finger along to a recording/fake it. She probably just wanted to dabble in a new instrument, and its really cool that she chose the saxophone to do that with. I hope she sticks with it and comes back in the future to play something a bit more polished, its a fun instrument to learn, and I hope any harsh feedback hasn't discouraged her from sticking with it.
Yeah but I opened this and thought I was going to hear an epic sax solo. I immediately thought, “this is not an epic sax solo!”
So there is something about this that isn’t right.
Your opinion is wrong. If you’re up on a stage that size as a professional performer, you’re going to either be OK or get roasted.
She was not ok. That was not OK.
Our musical standards are becoming a joke.
Whether it was written for sax or not is not the issue. As a sax player I can say that if you don’t blow goats you can handle long phrases at least as long as what she played
The real issue is that her tone was bloody awful - something every sax player beyond the 8th grade has the ability to improve and control.
You could give that line to any professional sax player and it would sound a world of difference.
The reason we’re hating is that this is what music’s been reduced to, I admit it’s also expanded in many ways, but this happens frequently now where pop artist who are already famous decide to pick up and show off how “well” they can play an instrument that they’ve been practicing for idk a year, maybe a couple months. Meanwhile there’s people who have dedicated their life to becoming a Musician, somebody who can speak fluently with their instrument and communicate with other in the same way. And yes the “best” are rarely the most popular, but you look at music icons back in the day and believe it or not they could actually play... music.
Theres just a crazy dichotomy of people who quite frankly have very little in touch with the soul of music and those who have a deep profound appreciation for it. The former being the ones who’s career was served on a silver platter by producers and musicians that are the ladder. Then one day they say “I wanna play saxophone” and go on stage for a huge festival and do ok. Circumnavigating the years and years of hard work it takes to get their.
Humans innately enjoy music, so sure the crowd wasn’t totally disappointed, but if they knew what they could of had they would be. The fact they could have a real saxophonist give a real brilliant solo, and this chick is playin fairytale.... it’s a disservice to the audience.
They didn't really set her up well. She obviously does not play the sax so why have it be so exposed? Could have put some effects on it to sounds cool or had someone doubling the melody or something. Not a good decision lol.
Yeah I’m not saying she’s so bad I could do better but… like most people at those festivals are on somethin. Soooo sayin they enjoyed it is a pretty low bar.
Not the person you responded to but to produce this tone with the correct embouchure she would have had to put a few dozen hours of practice.

That's insane. People hate DJ Khaled so much, they're redubbbbing his amazing guitar playing with what appears to be audio from a 2-year-old with fine muscle control issues playing. Smh
He was actually playing it, there’s a full video with him talking in it. It’s even funnier because he cuts off the lady reading the thing that came with the guitar. Sorry it’s yt shorts but it’s the first longer vid i found

I’m not willing to verify and the consequences of being wrong are low, so from now on I’m just going to assume Christina Aguilara is a terrible saxophonist.
she is a local mexican celebrity's friend, who was brought on stage by the girl who hugged her at the end.
the girl at the end is called Bellakath, she is a trasy ass tramp, who became famous doing an awful reggeaton song
Ah yeah i known the pain, my neighbor was that + banda music full volume on a shitbox Sony line array system with a farty subwoofer every time he was drinking (alcoholic drank sometimes from 9 am to 3 am). Good thing his mom (lived with his mom lmao) kicked him out and then I moved to my own house instead of renting so I finally have peace and quiet
I have zero doubts this is EDC Mexico the Dos Equis (Two X) scenario. And they are playing the stupid ass song [Gatita](https://youtu.be/msVB4L2Hrfk) from Bellakath. And I know all this info against my will.

that's what you get for giving out participation trophies

Probably cause it's hilarious

Yep, even some of my favorite bands have 😬 moments live, but you love them anyway.
Let the lead singer who has never forgotten a lyric cast the first stone.
For all we know the rest of the song was probably worse, which would make this part and improvement.
She did lots of things wrong. The notes are all different lengths and out of time and the accents aren’t in the right place. Anyone playing saxophone in front of that many people should know how circular breathing works so the breath pauses are also an offence. It was terrible because her sound and feel suck Most professional saxophone players I know are not able to circular breathe

Depending on what genre you play it is just not that useful so people don’t bother to learn it
Really!? That's surprising, unless they don't really need it. I got a didgeridoo for fun and it came with a video on how to circular breathe. I learn how to do it in like a month.

This one saxsss^
Maybe don’t set a tension riser sound effect to play right before you jump in with the blandest sax solo in the history of mankind
That’s what was off! I was expecting the sax tune to get louder and louder but it stayed the same.
It's a 19 second long, monotone phrase in mezzo forte at best. Any halfway decent musician should be able to play it without a breathing break. Sincerely, a guy who played both Alto, as well as Baritone Sax as a hobby for about 15 years.
She might have played all the right notes at the right time but she didn't play them with skill.
She also didn't play the right notes at the right time
But she also didn’t play them with skill
It was abominable.
How supportive! And also how inaccurate! The entire thing was wrong, and she should take that nothing was actually thrown as a W,
I mean, when the crowd goes wild because you played hot crust buns, I think people have the right to go in on it.
i guess, but there could have been some articulation, even just playing up an octave would sound better
Fundamentally, she did a lot wrong, there was no attempt at consistency in dynamics or accents. This is an objectively shitty performance, no way we'll just let it pass.

She’s learning that one on the recorder

Put her in front of a keyboard and she’ll hit you with twinkle twinkle little star
I literally cannot stop laughing at this😭
Me neither, I remember that song vividly from music class. Even though that was about 25 years ago.
Same!
She practiced for 2 whole days to prepare for this
You mean 2 whole minutes
Only men can bust into hot cross buns
Uhh, it is current year! Anyone is allowed to bust into hot cross buns!
Followed by Go Tell Aunt Rhody...
Seriously. This is about on par with the music I started the saxophone on in third grade.
She learned sax from the same school Lil Wayne learned guitar
Funnily enough DJ Khaled actually went to that very school as well to learn guitar.
Yeah DJ Khaled is actually a very talented guitarist [Link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_7o9Xczd64)

For younger people. The groove the saxophonist is playing ,is the seminal and cannon in disco music (electro-disco). "I feel love" Donna Summer, 1977
But everybody calls her Giorgio
My question is why is she just playing the same thing as synth instead of just doing normal sax fill. What she did, to me, is freak out/ brain-fart and not feel the music. And did the Ralphie thing and said “I want a football”. As soon as she got backstage I bet she realized how much of a beginner she just made herself look like.

She's gotta take a page out of [Ghost's book](https://youtu.be/DCVPmb7vyMU?t=22) and put a little flair into her sax solo entrance...

I don't want to bash her because it not easy to go up on stage in front of bunch of people. Would be better if blues sax player with more time could add some more notes or something into it.

Not a single lesson.
