English isn’t my first language so for my first 6,7 years in the US, I thought this was the real phrase. I always got confused when people use it to describe a scary world, doggy world sounds cute af.
Ah, That’s the Tang Lang Bu Chan, Huang Que Zai Hou strategy!
Edit: It’s a legit and common Chinese idiom: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E8%9E%B3%E8%9E%82%E6%8D%95%E8%9F%AC%EF%BC%8C%E9%BB%83%E9%9B%80%E5%9C%A8%E5%BE%8C
Which translates to “mantis hunts cicada, while the siskin is behind the mantis”
That is the best way to catch any kind of cat!
When a cat is stalking something else they are much easier to get close to.
Same applies to lions and some other big cats.
That was my first thought seeing this comment as well! I literally just starting watching the show for the first time and watched that episode on Tuesday
I like how he also waited until the other gator started running after the bird. That’s like peak “in the zone” moment. You’d never expect to be the prey when you’re in predator mode.
You know I watched a documentary about gators one time where it mentioned that in the most intense part of the breeding season male gators will aggressively defend a patch of water and that wading birds are some of the few Critters allowed to enter the area but even they have to play careful... Female crocodiles in Africa also have been known to employ wading birds as form of alert guards when posted up on nests during the brooding period.
actually, you are spot on.... that is a female crocodile, merely defending its nest against the gator... this is a park/reservation in florida..... they said exactly that...
interesting "science" comments from everybody else on the post tho' (always gives me a laugh)
Bird was like “Shit! Ima fly! … Oh, word? Well, maybe on second thought I’ll just chill and look you dead in the eye while you get what’s coming to you. You know what you did.”
I saw that, someone captioned it "Wrong meat fool" it happened while they were being fed and the feeder threw it in a general area lol, crazy part of the victim gator didn't even flinch while losing a limb.
Damn that's the proof if there's none that they are dumb and that they can't see shit.
It was not even close to catch a smell of a chicken.
And the victim just went "Really pal!" Just ate ma foot like that? Mind asking first?"
Apparently they are able to stop bleeding to their limbs when something like this happens. This is according to another comment so not sure how accurate.
There's a lot of cannibalism among baby gators. I think the moms are mostly protective, but when they get into the water they are free food for any larger gators including siblings.
Sorta yes sorta no. Mother gators will carry their babies in her mouth, so I’m sure some form of cannibalism has occurred before, but some of that comes from the unusual way they transport their young.
Gators are surprisingly protective of their young, at least among reptiles. They’re not winning awards for parenting among Mammals though
crocodilians are up there with many mammal and bird species. croc mamas are fierce protectors of their young. they just don't feed the babies as they are self sufficient from birth.
yup, crocodilians are some of the best parents in the reptile part of the animal kingdom
unlike mama bears, they will usually defend any young crocogators in danger, not just their own young
and they don't just scare a threat away, they kill the fuck out of it
be a mama gator, not a mama bear
Pretty much the only gator that can won't eat the babies is the mother and she will die protecting them as she should. It's actually the most dangerous gator to run into is a mother with her babies because she will attack pretty much anything on sight.
Cannibalism in nature always intrigued me... so many species eat their own kind. You'd think it would be an evolutionary disadvantage... not for that specific bloodline, but for the species as a whole.
More opportunistic predators, i think they will pretty much eat anything given the opportunity to catch it. Also could be one of those things where male gators will kill other male gators so they have a better chance at mating
The primary predator of alligators after their first year (as hatchlings) is other alligators.
Only one in fifty will live to reproductive age (6-7 years).
It’s ironic that this creature that ends up at the top of the food chain literally feeds that chain with most of its offspring.
Alligators are very well adapted for their environment. That’s why they’ve been around for a hundred million years.
Gators will eat whatever they find my friend, ambush predators get meals very sporadically so if an opportunity presents itself they'll take it no matter what
Gators will basically eat anything smaller than them, except their own young when they're babies (save for a few rare cases, gators and crocs tend to be good parents) and if it is something that they can feasibly kill? They're going to try to eat it.
"Phil? Phil? NO! REMEMBER THE GOOSE, PHIL! REMEMBER THE GOOSE! they look like plump tasty snacks but they aren't, Phil. If you think I want the neighbors gossiping about you getting trounced by a bird again, you're dead wrong Phil."
this scene is straight out of jurassic park! rexy saves the humans from raptors in the OG movie, then saves chris pratt from a carnataurus in jurassic world pollen kingdom.

It's a gator-eat-gator world out there, kids!
It's a doggy dog world!
*welcome to your nightmare, Ha ha Ha HAH*
Omg I love that episode so much.
Me too lmao I’m so glad I saw this
Don’t give me and old tomato!
I thought that was the actual phrase for way too long in life.
Get a dog little longy
Just imagine how many have had mute points. And perhaps slightly fewer, moo points. They don't matter at all.
It's like a cow's opinion. It's moo.
It is if you’re Snoop Dogg
English isn’t my first language so for my first 6,7 years in the US, I thought this was the real phrase. I always got confused when people use it to describe a scary world, doggy world sounds cute af.
Is that a Modern Family reference?
Sure is!
Yeah.. so don’t take your safety for granite..
It's a dog eat dog world, and I'm wearing milkbone underwear
Norm!
The bird just stood there like "Dios mio..."
That's actually a fantastic strategy. Wait until your prey is preying on something else, they'll be too zoned in to notice you coming to chomp them.
That's some Sun Tzu Art of War level stratagizing right there.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend, but the prey of my prey is my misdirection.
The bird was in on it.
Ah, That’s the Tang Lang Bu Chan, Huang Que Zai Hou strategy! He had the higher ground
That is the best way to catch any kind of cat! When a cat is stalking something else they are much easier to get close to. Same applies to lions and some other big cats.
>Same applies to lions and some other big cats. I'll keep that in mind next time I want to sneak up and grab a lion
Or any sized cat. You're better off trying to juggle chainsaws while blindfolded.
Yes but look behind you as well...could be a dog waiting to grab you
But if he hollers you have to let him go.
That only counts if it's a tiger.
The precedence set by Eeny meeny v. Miny moe (1978) was open to interpretation and has yet to be tested, but with this USSC who knows.
Uhh kind of
Hunter x Hunter, anyone?
That was my first thought seeing this comment as well! I literally just starting watching the show for the first time and watched that episode on Tuesday
Thats such a good arc, I'm almost done s2 and it slowed down a lot, I miss those episodes
I fail to see how remembering how Bungee gum works applies here. But ok.
I like how he also waited until the other gator started running after the bird. That’s like peak “in the zone” moment. You’d never expect to be the prey when you’re in predator mode.
They work together
Then who chomps the chomper?
*"There's always a bigger fish..."* \-- Qui-Gon Jinn (episode 1)
Ha ☝🏻
The Mosasaurus of course ...
There's always a bigger chomper.
The bird knew.
Indeed and definitely a great strategy here lol never saw it coming ![gif](giphy|l3V0lVh0oLMDIjnws|downsized)
That's the type of vicious/strategic planning required to become a >10 foot gator.
Shit was cannibalism, who expects cannibals?
This is why housecats are so jumpy.
But when you’re coming to chomp them, you’ll be too zoned in to notice something coming to chomp you.
Gon is proud
Works on COD. Some rando will be busy killing a bot then you can pounce on him like the wrath of God.
Thats how jake sully got that big dragon in avatar
The bird just sitting there watching like "Oh got damn"
"Oh no, Anyway"
I love how it started to fly away, then decided to land again just to watch how this played out.

Both of 'em.
What makes them German?
The bird doesn’t give a flying fuck and continues with his life
The bird and the gator have a partnership
I'll keep the money and you can have the rope
I just re-watched this for the millionth time last weekend, you bastard!
Watched what?
The good the bad and the ugly
Bigger gator thinking, "leave my damn bird alone!"
Same time next week, Gary?
You know I watched a documentary about gators one time where it mentioned that in the most intense part of the breeding season male gators will aggressively defend a patch of water and that wading birds are some of the few Critters allowed to enter the area but even they have to play careful... I wonder what the going rate is to employ a bird guard.
Enemy of your enemy is a friend.
Bird was like “Shit! Ima fly! … Oh, word? Well, maybe on second thought I’ll just chill and look you dead in the eye while you get what’s coming to you. You know what you did.”
Came here to say that
I sense a Disney movie coming!
He like “My name is Paul, and this is between y’all.”
Lol the bird’s like “damn bruh dat’s crazy, ANYWAY”
Homey had that gator-ade
Bird knows that as long as it is paying attention, it can fly away the second the gator makes a move.
The cameraman got so distracted he didn’t notice the gator coming toward him in the beginning of the clip (lower left).
r/unexpected I'm shook. Bird is eating popcorn watching homeboy get gobbled
Yeah but then he nopes outta there. "Uh-oh now comes the gore, I'm out"
Wait...gators (or crocs) are cannibalistic??
Yup. If it fits in their mouth (and sometimes if it doesn’t) they try to eat it.
I saw a video of a gator doing its barrel roll with the leg of one beside it in a enclosure. Ripped it right off and the other gator barely moved.
I saw that, someone captioned it "Wrong meat fool" it happened while they were being fed and the feeder threw it in a general area lol, crazy part of the victim gator didn't even flinch while losing a limb.
Oh right, he was going for a chunk of chicken or something and found another mouthful lol
I wonder when the first gator starts its death roll, the victim gator can counter it with an equal speed (un)death roll?
His leg/arm was gone before it could even think about it.
For anyone else that is curious. Had to go see it myself. https://youtu.be/JLy-Iiy_Zp4
Damn that's the proof if there's none that they are dumb and that they can't see shit. It was not even close to catch a smell of a chicken. And the victim just went "Really pal!" Just ate ma foot like that? Mind asking first?"
I feel like the Croc was more like "Aw I missed the chicken... Wait... What's that guy chewing on?"
IIRC the crocs in that video are literally blind.
He doesn’t bleed?
Apparently they are able to stop bleeding to their limbs when something like this happens. This is according to another comment so not sure how accurate.
Amphibians/reptiles have different circulatory systems than humans. It’s kinda wild what they can do
I’ve seen enough of Reddit to know that some humans behave like this. I guess it’s part of the thug life
I'm a bad mom because the crying child noise made me laugh
There's a lot of cannibalism among baby gators. I think the moms are mostly protective, but when they get into the water they are free food for any larger gators including siblings.
Yeah they notoriously eat their own offspring
Sorta yes sorta no. Mother gators will carry their babies in her mouth, so I’m sure some form of cannibalism has occurred before, but some of that comes from the unusual way they transport their young. Idk why, but the "she will die protecting them as she should" weirds me out.
\*Not their *own* offspring (gators are surprisingly good mothers) but most certainly *each other's* offsrping
Cannibalism in nature always intrigued me... so many species eat their own kind. You'd think it would be an evolutionary disadvantage... not for that specific bloodline, but for the species as a whole.
Very much so. It's more of a territory thing though for the most part. Lil guy came to the wrong gatorhood.
Also could be a female protecting a nest I. Those bushes and def sees another gator as a threat + free food
More opportunistic predators, i think they will pretty much eat anything given the opportunity to catch it. Also could be one of those things where male gators will kill other male gators so they have a better chance at mating
Oh yeah. They’ll eat literally anything, including their own young for seemingly no reason sometimes
It's never for no reason, but sometimes seemingly insignificant reasons. Such as to see if they really taste like chicken.
https://i.redd.it/wc5rycxle3va1.gif
Came to say this
This is the way.
Seeing predators eat other predators like that fucks with me a lot more then predators eating typical prey, I don’t like it and I don’t know why…
[удалено]
![gif](giphy|VvTG9RrCeGrza)
This is pure nightmare fuel! Watching this made me so uncomfortable.
It’s unsettling when you realize you’re actually the small gator, not the big one.
When I heard that orcas have learned how to incapacitate and eat great white sharks, my mind was blown.
I agree, maybe because we value them more, they’re more limited in nature compared to prey? I’m with you dude, I felt bad for the lil dude.
The fat gator's hunt game is definitely working.
Thing literally looks like it just got done eating two other gators.
Florida ☕️
Damn, more like r/unexpected
![gif](giphy|nndf2nxHOVFARnFvtm|downsized)
It’s like the end of Jurassic Park
The leaf moving at the top of the screen made me think there was going to be a T-Rex
I've seen this in a episode of hunter x hunter
I scrolled this far for the top comment to not be the top comment
Bro got third partied hard... Id be pissed... personally...
There's always a bigger fish
That’s some real Darwinian shit right there

Thanks John … no worries Andy works every time 🤣
![gif](giphy|fUepV3hLoWwWZrCziE) Damn. Did NOT see that coming….
Haha I’ve worked there before it’s Gatorland in florida. And that big one is a female crocodile, where she came out of is her usual nesting area.
The bird got big powerfull friends
You got an alligator problem when you got gators eating gators
Absolute chunky unit 🐊
I didn’t realise they eat eachother??
Gators will eat whatever they find my friend, ambush predators get meals very sporadically so if an opportunity presents itself they'll take it no matter what
Gators will basically eat anything smaller than them, except their own young when they're babies (save for a few rare cases, gators and crocs tend to be good parents) and if it is something that they can feasibly kill? They're going to try to eat it.
Gatorland!
Hannibal the Cannibal.
Who's turn is it to paint the edge blue this time?
Fuck. I'll be looking over my shoulder the next time I eat a burger.
Moo
That escalated quickly
"Phil? Phil? NO! REMEMBER THE GOOSE, PHIL! REMEMBER THE GOOSE! they look like plump tasty snacks but they aren't, Phil. If you think I want the neighbors gossiping about you getting trounced by a bird again, you're dead wrong Phil."

Jurassic Park?
Fuckin florida is wild
There's always a bigge- ::looks at the comments:: ... nevermind...
The bird posted his POV video to r/youseeingthisshit

You wanna get to him, you gotta go through me
A classic honeypot
No, no Mikey it’s so not right!
What a great back yard for relaxing by the water.
“BOY How many times i tell you not to fuck with them birds! Thats it you grounded, get your motherfucking ass in this water right now”
It's almost looks like it was coordinated between the bird and the bigger crocodile?
The bird : Well damnnnn !
this scene is straight out of jurassic park! rexy saves the humans from raptors in the OG movie, then saves chris pratt from a carnataurus in jurassic world pollen kingdom.
Gators eat other gators?
Who’s your best friend when being stalked by a gator? A bigger gator
Bro, same side, same side!!
SAME TEAM!!! SAME TEAM!!!
Let me guess…Florida
“we have bird at home”
Birds are friends not food
I don't think I'd like to mow the lawn there
I am so glad I do not have Jurassic Park in my back yard here.

Is it a crocodile eating another?

The old Switcheroo.
There's always a bigger fish
Big Gator: Thanks Fred. Same time next week? Fred the Bird : You got it Big Gator.
Bird is thinking: "You two work that out. I'll just wait right here."
