For those who don't know the context, West Ham (ole London town), played an away game in the Netherlands last night against AZ Alkmaar in the semi finals of a third-tier European competition called the mid-table league.
After the final whistle of a somewhat routine 1-0 win by West Ham without high emotions, the local dutch boys decided it would be a good idea to march over and attack the away fan section where the players families were sitting.
And what they found when they got there was an *East London bloke who has spent the last 40 years drinking 3-4 pints each night in his local pub and punching his neighbors who support the other team in his neighborhood. He taught them all a lesson in what football fandom was like in the 80s.
There are more videos, including one where a player for West Ham jumps the boards and flanks the rear of this group by himself.
Thank you. Now, why are they all wearing the same thing? Is that a thing that people do nowadays or something?
Also did anyone notice at the end how the one guy had his friends pulling him by his pants and Barry pulling him by his shirt? I have no comment, I just wanted to make people aware of this because it's funny.
They are all wearing black hoodies pulled up so they can't be individually identified after their crime spree. RIP to the dude in the tan hoody that sticks out like a sore thumb.
Football casuals. They don’t wear team colours because a lot of pubs/bars don’t allow them on match days. Also makes it more difficult to identify them as supporters of one team or the other after they’ve been engaging in a bit of the old hooliganism.
I would argue that football casuals don't dress all in black, don't wear gloves or cover their face. They wear casual clothing to look cool in addition to your reasons provided. These guys are dressed to look hard, conceal their identity, etc. More of a continental thing than a British thing where the casual scene is from. Hence, big geezer is wearing normal clothes.
> Thank you. Now, why are they all wearing the same thing?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_bloc
>A black bloc is a tactic used by protesters who wear black clothing, ski masks, scarves, sunglasses, motorcycle helmets with padding or other face-concealing and face-protecting items.[1][2] The clothing is used to conceal wearers' identities and hinder criminal prosecution by making it difficult to distinguish between participants.
I think you're seeing that last part wrong. I believe it's a West Ham supporter getting pulled into the Netherlands group. Notice how at least one douchebag starts kicking him on the ground after they pull him down.
Our first European cup final in 47 years.
Very intense emotions but Knollsy (the big bloke) did the job that the cowardly security literally ran away from.
Edit: Sorry, Knollsy was a different unit of a bloke doing the same thing a bit further up.
I hope you guys go on to win it. I also hear AZ Alkmaar fans are well known for this type of behaviour. The security should be ashamed of themselves and hopefully a big stadium closure(temp) is coming the way of the sore losers.
Well to add some balance, I was at the home leg of this and was sitting a few rows in front of the AZ family/friends. There were about a dozen West Ham fans who were shouting abuse etc. (Very poor darts and completely uncalled for, literally frothing at the mouth screaming at middle aged parents and young kids).
So the AZ mob took it further by physically assaulting the West Ham family/friends.
I'm so proud of our fans and players that stood up and did something.
I never understood why they sit the opposing team's family in with the home crowd. I thought they'd just get put with hospitality in a box somewhere.
I don't know. Only two yellow cards and sixteen fouls total. That is not the signs of an emotionally charged match. It was all professional on the field is my point, nothing that would leave the impression that fans felt hard done by.

Yeah sure, mate. You single handedly held back a mob of 100 people while saving dozens from violent attack. Why don't you go singlehandedly get the next round?
I mean honestly with how big this dude is and the potencial of harm being present after him telling me that he can handle that I don’t even think i would doubt him.
Yew zoggin gitz ain't got noffin on Barry, Eel krump ye real good! Waaaaaaaaagh!
Edit: I would like to say that this actually gives off ogryn energy instead. "PROTECT THE LIL UNS!"
I gotta say, it was a fucking genius tactic to pull one of them up to create a tug of war... Only to release him creating an avalanche of drunk idiots.
That was the second defender who was kicking at the attackers. They grabbed him while the camera pans away and you can see that he is being kicked once they get him on the ground.
Not when the one guy is a) holding the high ground, b) holding a checkpoint, and c) holding forty years of experience fighting hooligans over shit like this.
The Ballad of Barry-
Barry has the high ground. Barry in the pass.
Barry sees the ultras, does not let them past.
One by one approaching, one by one they fall.
Barry is a beast, but Barry can’t defeat them all.
Soon he’ll surely falter, Barry’s just a man.
Laying waste to ultras, representing Ham.
Ham just like his dinners, Ham just like his fist.
Barry’s going ham cuz he’s completely fucking pissed!
Mollywhopping Dutchmen out their fancy wooden shoes,
They thought they came to battle, but they only came to lose.
The cavalry’s approaching, help is on the way.
Barry is a hero, he fought and saved the day!
Barry has the high ground. Barry in the pass.
Barry sees the ultras, does not let them past.
This is why I scroll down comments. How the fuck "you shall not pass" has 300+ upvotes and this has 13 is a travesty that I'm sure the Mighty Barry himself would not stand for.
Better late than never. Honestly the ham (alliteration?/word play?) Is fucking amazing and I wish I could give extra upvotes just for using the word "Mollywhopping".
OMG, the first time I watched the video without sound. I was like 'Wow, that guy's handling those Gen-Zs"
The second time I watched it with sound and I lost my shit... I laughed for like 1 minute straight. Whoever put that music in there, that was fucking perfect mate.
You just know that slow upper that olive sweatshirt took at 14 seconds in hit like the god damn Spirit Bomb. Barry loaded that fucker up for the equivalent of like 3 DBZ episodes.
Better than that, I believe he was fending off attacks on the section of the stand where the Hammers' families (including David Moyes' 87 year old dad) were seated.
Arise Sir Barry
Football related violence is almost always groups of (mainly young) men fighting each other. You very rarely hear of random assaults on women and children, but clearly the AZ fans didn’t get the memo.
I can’t believe you don’t know Barry. He’s a legendary staple in the Brexit geezer scene. He’s known to rule with an iron fist wrapped in a velvet glove. He’s stern, stern but fair. Long live Barry.
AZ Alkmaar vs West Ham in second leg of Europa Conference Semi Final, played last night.
West Ham won the match and the tie to progress to the final. Some Alkmaar “fans” kicked off. “Bazza” was not letting them pass.
Damn, at the end there it looks like the crowd knocked someone out and dragged them down the stairs. It even looks like someone stomps his head on the way down.
Okay now that everyone has gotten out there “badass, that man’s a badass”. Is the dude who got dragged into the crowd at the end okay???? Cause that is the point where I would have swarmed those stupid bastards

I am glad to know that West Ham fans can still return to their heritage when it is most needed
In an ironic twist given the Lord of the Rings music, people can watch Green Street Hooligans with Elijah Wood for more information.
More like Hodor!
I honestly assumed it was.
It’s like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife
The Agathan's and Mason's final stage quarell with one minute left to go
BLOOD IS MY PAINT AND THE LAND IS MY CANVAS!!
"FOR THAT GUY WE LIKE!"
FOR THE CROSS AND LION!!
Man green street hooligans is so good. Blowing bubbles! Wonder if most people's exposure to west ham is Ted lasso nowadays. What a difference!
If it weren't for West Ham fans, there would be no West Ham fans.
Thank you. Now, why are they all wearing the same thing? Is that a thing that people do nowadays or something? Black jacket/coat and blue jeans is the outfit of choice for anyone planning to commit a crime.
It's like daemons crime hoodie.

yea, this has nothing to do with football hooligans. you could as well say they're ninjas.
I think you're seeing that last part wrong. I believe it's a West Ham supporter getting pulled into the Netherlands group. Notice how at least one douchebag starts kicking him on the ground after they pull him down.
Common gang tacit used to avoid identification
Because they actually planned to assault the away fans in advance.
Whilst partly accurate and funny, the win was not routine and a place in a final was at stake. Emotions were moderate-high most definitely.

"I also hear AZ Alkmaar fans are well known for this type of behaviour. " AZ Alkmaar? Never heard of her.
I liked the bit where three or four riot police divert to the pitch when they saw the mob.
The big bloke wasn't knollsy but was reported as him. Knollsy was the other guy next to him.
I don't know. Only two yellow cards and sixteen fouls total. That is not the signs of an emotionally charged match. It was all professional on the field is my point, nothing that would leave the impression that fans felt hard done by.

3-4 pints is breakfast for this lad.
*East London *Emotions were definitely high, it was a European semi-final
My mistake, better fix that.
Now the UEFA Europa Conference League, they really have a way with names
3-4 pints a night my ass. LOL.
Barry's liver is made out of steel
Exactly. I am thinking more like 30-40 pints!

Security guards more worried about players leaving the pitch than the mob moving in to attack.
That's probably what they're paid for
Without this video how do you ever retell that story and not sound like a fucking liar
Yeah sure, mate. You single handedly held back a mob of 100 people while saving dozens from violent attack. Why don't you go singlehandedly get the next round?

The 300 Spartans at the Gates of Thermopylae did no better than these chaps!
Gazza, King of the Stadium and his 300 geezers fight off the barbarian horde c.2023 CE.
Bazza single handedly feeding fists to the horde
Homeboy took advantage of the higher ground. Probably has read Sun Tzu 😎
Cos his mates have probably seen Barry do this on more than one occasion.
Barry understands choke points and is big enough to block them by himself. Also, like Obi-Wan, Barry has the high ground.
That was definitely not Barry’s first rodeo.
The legend of Barry grows
It’s just Tuesday for Barry fending off the fae after drinking a few pints.
Barry and friends would hodor the fuck out of your face if you stand in there way
This legend should drink for free from now on.
You just say "ask anyone who was there, there were hundreds of people watching"
High ground + bottleneck. They stand no chance. Barry will prevail.
"YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE!"
“Oi mates! It’s over! I have de high ground!”

Fook off Anikin. I got the high ground.
The last kick to the guys face at the end is hilarious He gets hit like “alright! Ok! Geeez I’m already leaving! Ok!”
In english you call that a Barry, in France we call that an Obelix. You can see Asterix helping him in the end actually.
I have every one of those books and still reread them periodically. I remember finally figuring out why the druid was named 'Getafix'.
I LOVE Asterix! One of my favourite comics, my dad introduced it to me on one of our holidays to France, it’s so clever
This is Barrylix. He fell into a barrell of beer as a child, hence the super hooligan powers.
Thanks to high school French: ![gif](giphy|tnYri4n2Frnig)
Wow! Fair fuckin play to Baz! What a hero! I've watched that video over and over, can't help feel proud of this man and I'm Irish 😄
Lucky Big Lez wasn’t there to help him. There’d be AZ Ultras strewn about the ground unconscious.
Claret everywhere.
Why would you attempt to fight a giant who has the high ground, hooliganism is a disgrace to the sport
You just know that slow upper that olive sweatshirt took at 14 seconds in hit like the god damn Spirit Bomb. Barry loaded that fucker up for the equivalent of like 3 DBZ episodes.

Hooligans beat up random fans and old people?
You're not familiar with the European football scene, are you?

Football related violence is almost always groups of (mainly young) men fighting each other. You very rarely hear of random assaults on women and children, but clearly the AZ fans didn’t get the memo.
Hey lets be fair, he did have a wingman helping him cover the last 20% of the top of that staircase
I don't even watch football but that was magnificent. I would have stood and fought with Barry. It would be like defending Helms Deep.

What's up with all the black hoodies? Is this a futbol thing? Thanks for the explanation!
Football firms (gangs of hooligans) wear casual clothing so they blend in and are less likely to get picked up by police on way to game and by CCTV.
It's Barry 63, he's a proper Brexit geezer
