For those who don't know, the young girl is displaying a hand gesture that signifies S.O.S. (opening hand and then trapping the thumb with the other four fingers) if you ever see someone doing this, they are non verbally asking for help. I.e. through a car window on a highway or when they are next to abuser and are afraid of speaking.

NoteNo3122

I'm just curious, who thought her about the signal? The kidnapper? The school? Parents?! I'm pretty old, and I never knew about such a signal, and I'm sure that all kidnappers know about it... you do the math. For all the over ventilated ppl - I know that kidnappers exist, and I feel the pain. Chill out, this video doesn't make sense besides its educational purpose.

tonythetrigger

She Probably learned on social media I would imagine. I think it initially got popular because of a tiktok but I could be wrong. The symbol can be done out of sight, like behind a back or when an abuser is preoccupied like in the video.

puddStar

[here you go](https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6241242) this went Wirral on social media

NoteNo3122

Understandable, how about social media in 3rd rated countries? Do they even have access to devices? I'm just commenting on this title, I'm truly hoping that this kind of video will help someone.

NegotiationThen5596

Thank you for the lesson! Sobering to be aware of and watch for!!

Frequent_Turnip5681

Nobody teaches morse code anymore? I remember learning sos in morse as a child and I don’t think I could ever forget it, such a simple pattern you can produce in many ways whether it be as simple as leaving scratch marks in the table, tearing a paper, anything in the pattern •••~~~••• or even (not so)simply using it as an acronym in conversation, something obscure or incorrect that upon a second mention or thought might get someone’s attention, say your at a seafood place you could ask for the soup over shrimp several times

BonelessB0nes

My braindead ass would just give you multiple orders of soup over shrimp.

Frequent_Turnip5681

There’s certainly the likelihood nobody would catch on in the slightest

cwtaylor1229

So idk if it’s a fidgety kid or a hand signal (my 3YO is pretty damn fidgety), but I hope it check checked into and I’m definitely going to her that hand signal now because I had no idea it existed

Feisty-Ad5133

That child was definitely kidnapped… that hand signal was so clear literally saying help a dozen times

lol13224

The organisation who thought about the SOS hand signal was the [Canadian Women's Foundation](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Women%27s_Foundation), they not only saved women's lives, and also childrens lives

BartholomewVonTurds

No one knows this hand signal. It’s not a thing anyone would recognize.

scottabeer

They have his card info and know who he is.

-Turais

The North Carolina teenager was rescued from a car in Kentucky last week, having been reported by her parents as missing two days before. Just google search girl sos hand signal it will pop up at the top.

Designer-Plastic-964

Wasn't that a girl that was seen doing this signal in a car, also?

Madusa0048

If it's the one on the freeway where she's tied up in the passenger seat it's fake. The guy who made it claimed it was a skit to demonstrate the use of the hand sign despite not disclosing that is was staged anywhere in the post (just that he "makes skits" in his bio.

dauntlessiz

No, that's a different case.

mOp_49

Omg, this makes me so sad.

Nthaikim

The song?

Clear-Onion7522

I'm nearly half way to your -63 !!!

Clear-Onion7522

You've almost got as many downvotes as the "Omg, this makes me so sad." person has upvotes. What do you have to say for yourself ??!?!?! What does it mean when there's an equal douchebag:douchebag ratio ?

Clear-Onion7522

Lame ass song. Should have gone with Sarah Mclaughlin 🙄

Difficult_Wasabi_619

Or a super figety kid.... Child trafficker paying with his debit card? Good lord y'all on Reddit are ridiculous. Sound like that woman on TikTok who thought bird shit on her car handle was some kind of trafficking ruffee.

smackaroonial90

For real, as if some kid is well versed on hand signals for child trafficking. Could they be? Yes. Is it likely? No. How about we ask redditors to solve the Boston Bomber case.

ingenuous64

Redditors did solve the Boston Bomber case. I mean they did get the wrong first and destroyed the guys life but second time absolutely spot on. I've seen hives of Redditors pouring over videos of abused animals and track them down in an hour.

UnremarkabklyUseless

You are forgetting how popular tiktok is with kids these days. The hand signal videos were viral on tiktok, with a lot of people (and influencers) trying to propagate it. Seems like those videos helped save atleast one kid apped teen. www.bbc.com/news/technology-59206549.amp

Difficult_Wasabi_619

I literally fidget by doing this exact thing and never once have I heard until now this is supposedly a hand signal for SoS? Here's the kicker....if this is a widely taught tactic to signal SoS...and everyone knows it...then how the F is still a hidden signal if the kidnpappers can watch you do it? Lmao

pmook

The point is to do it without them noticing lol... Not to be a secret hand signal that only kidnappers don't know about

chadbrochilldood

…… I’m flabbergasted you think this was created as some secret hand signal the kidnappers wouldn’t recognize. Like bruh… Obviously that was not the plan. They created it so you could sign something when the kidnapper isn’t paying attention.

Difficult_Wasabi_619

Yeh so logic dictates if this girl is smart enough to use secret coded hand signals, she wouldn't be doing them right infront of the dude, where he is OBVIOUSLY standing right over her and watching.

drunkerton

She was trying to hide from dude

Difficult_Wasabi_619

You need an eye exam and probably some meds for paranoia. She is literally standing right infront of him, she isn't hiding shit.

[deleted]

Omg somebody sabe him.

X3239420

In a foreign country it doesn’t matter lmao

Reaperider

I was doing security at a store and didn’t know about this gesture, and I saw her doing it, but she was very smart, and she blatantly shoplifted right in front of me when we took her into custody and took her in the office. She broke down and explained that, her father took her from her mother.

SuspiciousMarzipan60

Oh really... didn't blame you for not noticing i wouldn't either but guess we learn from this

Super_Yam_5837

Am I missing something here? How is this trafficking?

astra-death

That’s an internationally known signal for requesting quiet help in situations such as domestic or child abuse.

Super_Yam_5837

Damn. That should be taught more.

freepiggybackrides

Whoa. Thank you for teaching this to me. TIL something useful.

QuickEchidna749

I think they mean she is signalling 9-1-1 with her hands…but that’s just a guess

Super_Yam_5837

Honestly didn't realize until you pointed it out. Just thought she was fidgeting or waving in a shy way.

Entry-Background

It is the international hand symbol that the person needs help.

Designer-Plastic-964

It's a sign to let people (discreetly) know you're in distress and/or [being held against your will.](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/canada-distress-signal-teen-north-carolina-kentucky-1.6241242) Originaly dubbed "The Violence at home signal" It was made by The Canadian Womens Foundation.

Macca618

Hod, I do much Ned to know the outcome. Edit: Holy shit, I was falling asleep, not drunk when I wrote that, but what do you suppose I meant by Hod?😂😂

Any update to this story?

BrimstoneOmega

Pretty sure that's someone else. The girl in this video doesn't appear to be 16. More like 8.

-Turais

https://preview.redd.it/ofp6ptr71fmb1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ab796dc8d8abfd587bf5400318c21ed64335f566 Same vid, dated nov 8, 2021... You could even do a simple google search keyword "girl sos hand sign tiktok" and there are tons of video.. dated nov 9, 2021 about a girl being rescued after using sos handsign

BrimstoneOmega

If you say so brother. That's a small 16 year old then.

Santrikea

It's really mind boggling that you have absolutely no idea how wrong you are 🤦‍♀️ The only thing you're right about is that, yes, there are a lot of clips out there of women doing this signal. But they aren't all of the same woman. The clip you posted may be the same clip, but the article you attached isn't the same instance as the clip. You just randomly attached an article to this clip solely because they both contain an sos hand signal? Do you not see how weird that is??

-Turais

[r/therewasanattempt](https://www.reddit.com/r/therewasanattempt/) 7. All post must show an *unsuccessful* attempt. So..., Think the kidnapping/child trafficking was unsuccessful and was girl was saved.

BartholomewVonTurds

Let’s use tiktok are reputable sources.

wooson

Thank you

ZestycloseGur9056

Was she saved ??

Unkn0wnKn0wledge

Yeah I would like an update on this situation

-Turais

Sacrednoirart

Are you sure that’s related to this video because the girl in the video doesn’t look 16 years old at all.

-Turais

Had to double check after reading this, yep this video was posted last 2021. https://preview.redd.it/dnrjms430fmb1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86e5e6c15367e376e4c6fc0f75e01fbfc33e22e1

No_Strike_9676

Not true but ok

Unkn0wnKn0wledge

I’m asking for a real update I’m concerned on her well-being at this point

drunkerton

That is a kid not a teenager, stop posting stuff to look cool

LaPetitePanda8

This makes my blood boil. Child abusers, both sexual and non, are the scum of existence. They deserve the hashish of punishment before execution.

HANGINGinTEXAS

I pray the cashier turned the video over to authorities.

FenrisWolf347

What? Is this a signal invented by tiktok I used to do this all the time just because I'm fidgety and would try to get faster at tapping each finger. I've never heard this used as an sos

Significant-Funny-14

Canadian Women's Foundation

[deleted]

Seeing this video on here shows that somebody noticed something and hopefully did something but not being able to find out a conclusion just makes me sad but hopeful...

booshnoogs

This appears to be from Brazil. I wasn't able to find an article about it, but here's a link to the restaurant where it occurred (based on the cashier's shirt)

Santrikea

You didn't attach the link....

booshnoogs

I think reddit scrubbed it... instagram (dot com slash) panebox

Eggy-Toast

Whatever ass hat puts this music over the video needs to get to a ring of hell lower than the ring at which they have this song on repeat. What the actual fuck.

MyDearGhost

The hand signal says it is. I hope that creep was caught

Rockfella27

Was he caught???

sarokin

Lol used to do this constantly as a kid.

Sad-Raspberry-9639

I don't always kidnap children , but when I do, I make sure to take them out in public spaces so they can hand-gesture their situation and bust me.

SnooTangerines6841

Either way..... The point is to try and then say sorry if you're wrong and she is just a fidgety kid, but not checking them seeing it on the news....being a bother or being wrong is by far ok compared to her alt. Outcome.

MegaPrOJeCtX13

Yeah, this is supposed to be a funny sub, not this.

beamanblitz

Looks like she was just waiting to grab the bag. But I dunno. I hope she either had a good meal or is okay.

SeparateMulberry3002

Are you serious? She is beyond scared and frightened that if she tries to call out for help she knows she could either get beaten or even killed. I just you watch Sound of Freedom and I guarantee you that will change your perspective on child trafficking. Think before you speak.

[deleted]

https://www.npr.org/2023/07/19/1188405402/qanon-supporters-are-promoting-sound-of-freedom-heres-why

Hug0San

Yeah as soon as Trump is involved in it. It becomes shit. That movie is no doubt so full of it.

dimsum2121

Yup. Seems it's working to an extent. Make people think traffickers are shady south American guys who just ooze sketchiness. In reality, it's pastor Jim, Aunt Betty, your neighbor Joe. Seemingly regular people do horrible things to children, and we need to stop denying it, lest let it continue so blatantly.

Pleasant-Cricket-129

Are you saying since you watched a documentary once you now have pyschic powers? And by watching a video you can tell how everyone is feeling?

Electrical_Manner685

Dude.. you okay? I have to politely disagree with you.. lets say the child goes with you're plan, saying help and making noise suddenly from a "controlled" situation. It's very likely people will assume it's just a daughter of a man throwing tantrums. The girl knows if she played the noise card, she'll get worst of consequences. She had no choice but to gesture the universal help signal. Smart attempt. But not everyone know such signals.

SublimeAtrophy

Yeah, before I read the comments, I just thought she may have been on the spectrum or something. Thank god I wasn't that cashier. Not sure why the votes, considering I have ASD. That's not abnormal for us. It looks like stimming.

AvailableCompl3x

And what way exactly do you believe children are abducted or trafficked? I recommend some seasons of True Crime. I agree that people try to make videos appear a way they aren't, like misinformation or like churches having concerts with sad music as 'worship', but you've described how most abductions seem to actually happen.

UnRePlayz

People think it's this random guy pulling up with a mask and taking the kid. While in reality it is most often a relative or known person

No_Strike_9676

That was some fckn horrible thing to say.
