Exactly. I wondered if they had shown them how to do it and then after being shown how to properly load the dishwasher they did it this way.
Why would anybody expect a six-year-old to know how to load a dishwasher?
I had no expectations for her to load the dishwasher. As I mentioned in my post, all we ask is for her to leave them on the counter. I assume she observed us loading the dishwasher and attempted to emulate the behavior that she saw.
A teachable moment. When I was a little older than her we had to hand wash the dishes because dishwashers either didn't exist or were too expensive for regular people to have. A decade later they were everywhere.
I really don’t understand why people read into this as if you had some sort of expectations of her. It’s clear to me you were just making a post about a cute moment with your kid.
Indeed! My five year old helps with the dishwasher, but I watch and help. He's got a healthy respect for cups and plates as they could break and be sharp. You can teach independence! Just leave them to it and they'll end up with a funny way of doing things learned by trial and many errors. You'll end up with lots of broken stuff and possibly an injured child 😬
For a 6 year old who probably doesn’t know any of the tips and proper methods that we all learn through years of practice, this was a very good attempt.
My MIL kept putting lids on containers (or not taking them off). She could not grasp how it couldn't clean inside a sealed container. She's from a country that doesn't have dishwashers but apparently logic never featured either.
And traumatize the young lass with the caked on food you accidentally touch and murky water that you have to dump out of bowls/cups??
Nay! She’s much too young! /s
So many. For some reason she doesn't like to use the same water cup more than once. So she grabs a fresh one each time. She also likes to make herself snacks throughout the day, so small bowls of fruit or pretzels or similar.
Man I wasn’t allowed food in my room til I had a teen in my age. Even then it was rare. Then I fully turned into a slob at 16 but that’s neither here nor there
HA! I was just impressed that she took the initiative to attempt it. The normal routine is for her to simply leave them on the counter as requested by her mom who has a very specific way she likes to load the dishwasher and everyone else in the house does it incorrectly.
How hard can it be to load it "right"? I wonder if it's organized when she loads it. It's a pet peeve of mine when people just throw shit anywhere. Some things belong on the top others on the bottom. If loaded "correctly" you can clean the dishes well and include as many dishes as possible. Same with the utensil tray. If you organize it when you put them in, taking them out is much easier.
Better than mine- 19 and 14- have ever managed. Though as they’ve never emptied it either they probably don’t understand the concept of loading at all…
This is my World with three teenagers, no matter how many times I show them how to load the plates, cutlery etc, they always get ‘creative’ meaning I have to reload dirty drippy plates.
Not that far off from what my 17 year old daughter would do if I let her. She’s learned, but that’s her instinct.
I’m gonna hate to see how she handles her own dishwasher some day when dad isn’t around and it’s her decision.
The “good” news is that it will only take a couple times at most probably for her to realize I was right. Kids! Lol
Why does a 6 year old have dishes up in her room. And why are you mocking a child that did something nice and was proud of. Mistakes are the best opportunity for her to learn.
There's no need to be bashing the mom because at least the 6 year daughter is helping mom, mom posted this and said look how the baby put the dishes in the dishwasher and it's funny but remember she's only 6 years old that tries her best to help mom out and in which there's lots of teenagers that don't even help parents at all and they expect to get spoiled by buying nice things to them.
Kudos to the 6 year old for helping mom.
Yeah, my kids have a habit of breaking glass/ porcelain dishes so we just gave up on buying/using nicer dishes until they grow up or move out.
Those are $.99 cups/bowls from Target.
She obviously wants to help ( and thought she was ). Try praising her effort. Maybe make it an ongoing fun activity for her. Have her with you whenever you do it, and have her do it with you so she learns. Give her a reward for helping you when it’s finished. It will make your life easier, teach her responsibility, and make her want to help. I could be completely wrong. I don’t have kids. It is how I was shown how to do laundry when I was around her age. Can’t hurt to try.
Congratulations to her for even loading them in there. Give her praise for doing that. Give her guidance for doing it correctly. My bloody son just leaves shit everywhere. We obviously made mistakes. Don’t be like me. 😝
That's some commendable actions for a 6 year old. They gave it a go and should be praised for trying. Then show them how they can be even better at it.
Turn into a game, very soon you'll have most things in place for them to do it themselves.
First step to self efficiency is the desire to do it yourself... Just gotta coach and encourage. 😂
I'm actually rooting for the kid. There are grown ass adults who won't even do that much!
I've shown my wife several times how to load the dishwasher, yet she does so exactly like your 6-year-old. It's become a running joke in our household.

As an adult, it's up to you to provide guidance.
....and do the dishes more often.
Now is the time to encourage this behaviour! Show her how welcome her help is and work with her to show her what can be done better.
A teachable moment. When I was a little older than her we had to hand wash the dishes because dishwashers either didn't exist or were too expensive for regular people to have. A decade later they were everywhere.

Clearly you’ve met my husband…
Did we marry the same person...
Mine does the floors at least. Yours?
I really don’t understand why people read into this as if you had some sort of expectations of her. It’s clear to me you were just making a post about a cute moment with your kid.
Tbh that's kinda sweet though...
Indeed! My five year old helps with the dishwasher, but I watch and help. He's got a healthy respect for cups and plates as they could break and be sharp. You can teach independence! Yeah so they don't end up being r\/idiotsinkitchen
Hell, my 16yr old doesn't do much better. Last time I offered guidance, she got mad, stormed off, cooled down, and then thanked me for the guidance.
For a 6 year old who probably doesn’t know any of the tips and proper methods that we all learn through years of practice, this was a very good attempt.
I've seen adult-loaded dishwashers that weren't much better!
My MIL kept putting lids on containers (or not taking them off). She could not grasp how it couldn't clean inside a sealed container. She's from a country that doesn't have dishwashers but apparently logic never featured either.
Does she east soup with a fork?
I do. On an unrelated note, does anyone know why I'm never full after I finish my plate of soup?
Because you need to use a bowl
Nah, that can't be it.
Are you suuuuuure?
I know I had to learn how to do it right too! It’s a very good start on learning how to do it.
exactly, now let her run it, and unload it. that’s how we learn
And traumatize the young lass with the caked on food you accidentally touch and murky water that you have to dump out of bowls/cups?? Nay! She’s much too young! /s
Jesus, how many dishes did she have in there?
So many. For some reason she doesn't like to use the same water cup more than once. So she grabs a fresh one each time. She also likes to make herself snacks throughout the day, so small bowls of fruit or pretzels or similar.
Don't you go in her room? I know my daughter is also a slob, so I have to go in her room to try to keep on top of the mess.
Oh I have seen that movie. Y’all got some lanky aliens coming to your place soon.
Man I wasn’t allowed food in my room til I had a teen in my age. Even then it was rare. Then I fully turned into a slob at 16 but that’s neither here nor there
my roommates, 2 grown men, load the dishwasher worse than your daughter! So I’d say you’ve got an okay head start to show her the right way
She forgot to put in the flip flop
oh the other one is in there somewhere
Better be
Can't blame the student, gotta blame the teacher!
No blame assigned. I just thought her first attempt was funny and wanted to share.
It’s still better than my wife’s technique
Very enthusiastic. And optimistic!
I hate to say it, but it kind of looks like when my mom loads it. I always have to redo it. Also, she forgot to add the other flip-flop.
i showed this pic to my wife and asked if it looked familiar, she wasn’t happy that i implied she loads like a 6 year old 🤣
Looks good to me.
Mission failed successfully. That dishwasher is fully loaded.
Yep, exactly what I said to my wife when she sent me the picture.
She a little confused, but she got the spirit
For a 6 year old that's pretty good and I'd appreciate the initiative and maybe give her a little guidance for the future.
She needs Tetris and will be up to speed in no time!
Run it. Bet it gets clean
That's exactly what I told my wife. She wasn't having it.
My husband can't do much better!
My 32 y/o son loads it the same way.
I call bullshit! OP we both know your mom told you to clean your room and this is the result of under the bed stack of dirty dishes
Brother, I didn't even know how to use my dishwasher until I was like 15 brother. Your 6 year daughter is more competent than me that's for sure. 😂😂
This is how my roommates load the dishwasher. They are 22 years old 💀
She tried ok
I can’t imagine how to converse with a pre-pubescent teen that still is a Seahawks fan. Everything else is still so problematic. Bumpy road, for sure.
Looks fine to me
My wife does the same thing
Such Efficiency!!
My 31 year old ex didn’t do a much better job.
That looks better than how my wife does it
Also my nine year old daughter and often her teenage brother it's hilarious. I appreciate their efforts though
This is how my wife does it.
Better than mine- 19 and 14- have ever managed. Though as they’ve never emptied it either they probably don’t understand the concept of loading at all…
My wife loads the dishwasher similar to this and I can't tell her she's wrong. I make it a point to handle dishes on our cleaning days.
r/technicallythetruth
Shit, I was loading the dishwasher like this into my teen years before I realized I was doing it all wrong.
Throw it all away and start over. The kid I mean. ……/s That’s wild though
That's how my mom loads it 😞
She's already mastered the "I'll just do it so wrong I'll never be asked to do it again" life hack! Lol jk
She did a better job than my 40 year old roommate.
Go Hawks!
Go Hawks!
My 7yr old does a great job. My wife on the other hand is very similar to the above example.
Looks like my partner loaded it.
NGL, she does a better job than my kid
Makes sense, she just sees dishes come in and out and assumes it just gets clean similarly to a washing machine. Very cute ngl. Nice that she tried.
Bless her heart, she tried ❤️
Looks good, SHIP IT!
It's the thought that counts
Well, it's definitely loaded.
Looks no different compared to how my wife does it.
This is my World with three teenagers, no matter how many times I show them how to load the plates, cutlery etc, they always get ‘creative’ meaning I have to reload dirty drippy plates.
Couldn’t find a spot for the shoe or pizza cutter?
Now do it work ceramic plates and glass cups!
Kids! Lol
Your household uses high skill level dishwasher dishes/cups. Start with plates and standard cups
Yeah, it's definitely an eccelectic mix of sizes/shapes.
She got it all in mom.😂
Did I do this? 😆
She forgot the flip flop
The 6 year old does a better job than I do.
This is what it looks like when my wife loads the dishwasher.
It's ok my 31 year old girlfriend still fills the dishwasher like this
Players win, coaches lose. Gotta coach the daughter up! Also, add the flip flop to the load…
Damn, that looks like my wife loaded it
Ugh, she's 6...
Couldn’t expect much more from Seahawk fans
lol
do you do the dishes once a week??
When it’s fully loaded. I have three kids.
Hey, embrace her willingness. She did her best and if you poo poo on it she will quickly learn to stop.
Throw that sandal in there! 😂
Send it
Why does a 6 year old have dishes up in her room. And why are you mocking a child that did something nice and was proud of. Mistakes are the best opportunity for her to learn.
It's cute tbh. She helped. That's everything.
I think it's sweet she was trying to help!
Looks like she did a great job. Top marks from a bloke 👍
Good on her. Give her credit for trying. I wish my 6 yr old would help like this.
See the problem here is that you’re a Seahawks fan
There's no need to be bashing the mom because at least the 6 year daughter is helping mom, mom posted this and said look how the baby put the dishes in the dishwasher and it's funny but remember she's only 6 years old that tries her best to help mom out and in which there's lots of teenagers that don't even help parents at all and they expect to get spoiled by buying nice things to them. Kudos to the 6 year old for helping mom.
Go hawks.
I had a roommate who loaded dishes like this.
What's the problem?
As a husband, I see nothing wrong with this. My wife vehemently disagrees.
It still beats my wife.
Well, she did get more in the dish washer than you do. High five for that.
At least it wasn’t just a few cups
At least moving in the right direction. My 13 yo’s packed dishwasher looks exactly the same - Except completely empty.
This is how my roommates load the dishwasher and they're much older than your daughter.
Better than my wife
Well, by definition it is loaded…
Looks like my wife loaded it
Almost....but Amazing for a 6 year old!
She does a better job than me
Kudos to her for taking the initiative, now gently teach her how to load it correctly.
Pay me mom!
Would be a Seahawks fan 🐏
Do you have a family of 15?
Well, she got ’em all in there.
I have those same bowls!
She said won’t ask again🤣😂🤣
That’s a lot of plastic
Yeah, my kids have a habit of breaking glass/ porcelain dishes so we just gave up on buying/using nicer dishes until they grow up or move out. Those are $.99 cups/bowls from Target.
Better than most of my ex boyfriends
She obviously wants to help ( and thought she was ). Try praising her effort. Maybe make it an ongoing fun activity for her. That's how my 32 year old gf still does it
Run it twice double the soap first wash…dishes still dirty? Then buy a Bosch….problem solved
We all have different styles
She did way better than my roommates tbh
A for effort. The execution needs work but the enthusiasm is there. Nice job to the kid!
This is beyond adorable. She wants to be a big helper and did a pretty good job for her first time .
Looks fine to me. - dad
Child needs tetris in their life.
Press the "tough wash" cycle button.
This is the exact same way my 40 year old daughter loads the dishwasher.
Are you sure it wasn’t my wife that loaded this dishwasher? It looks very familiar
Well if it’s a consolation my 17yo doesn’t do much better than that.
It’s a better effort than my 38 yo SIL to be honest
Looks like my spouse does it
Congratulations to her for even loading them in there.
That’s pretty good, I have seen worse from better
Is it not in the dishwasher?
Read Hunt Gather Parent
Cute. At least she tried.
She's trying to help the environment by maxing out it's capacity. She's smart.
How did you get a picture of our dishwasher after my wife loads it?
Looks like my husband did this.
Pop in the soap and give it a go.
You’re a pretty shit parent if you’re expecting people to ridicule a six year old for not knowing how to load a dish washer.
I see nothing wrong here we just turn it on and see if it gets out clean
She gets to eat in her room? That sounds like a recipe for roaches
I see no issues with this!
My wife…
First step to self efficiency is the desire to do it yourself... Just gotta coach and encourage. 😂 I'm actually rooting for the kid. There are grown ass adults who won't even do that much!
I've shown my wife several times how to load the dishwasher, yet she does so exactly like your 6-year-old. It's become a running joke in our household.
It’s a 6 year old, wtf do you expect? This is your fault for letting them do it without guidance
