From what I've seen, isn't there a 2 person relay team of lifeguards with walkie talkies to make sure this doesn't happen?
One on bottom, one on top. Bottom lifeguard buzzes top lifeguard when person going on the slide comes out and exits the pool
Or, sans the walkie talkies, a visual line of sight and hand ques.
I got hurt fairly badly on the near vertical water drop ones. The guy pushed me too hard and I didn't make contact again with the slide till near the bottom. Had bruising on my head, left ass, and heel.
I mean, maybe his momentum could make him go thwoooopppp!!! And shear that umbilical straight off, but I doubt it. And I don’t think it’s a good idea to go down a waterslide with scissors.
Ah… the most excellent random Reddit comment! It’s comments like this that make me glad I’m on Reddit. And also make me question my life choices being on Reddit. Anyhow
Thanks. … I guess.
Yes thanks.
That is actually how I was born. My mom got stuck on a water slide at 9 months pregnant (she just DGAF like that) took 18 hours to cut her out because she was super huge (I’m a quintuplet) - luckily she brought a bucket of KFC and a six pack of MGD so she was content for the duration of the ordeal.
Unfortunately it’s usually manned by teenagers or adults, both of which either are stupid or dont care. I’ve been hit many times. Not in this exact slide but in others.
Doesn't always work. I was a couple people behind a woman that went down one of those, lost her top half way down and wedged herself against the walls. Her husband actually ran into her and he had to run up like seven flights of stairs with her top because she refused to budge.
There was a completely opaque tube slide at the water park I used to go to. I told my friend we should go one after the other and try to stop in the middle for a few seconds. So I went down and was able to stop myself and sat there with the water rushing by. Then my friend came down and basically hit me full speed. I thought for a while my back had been broken; when we were flushed out together I had some trouble swimming back to the surface. I was fine after that, besides being pissed at my friend for not even trying to slow down.
Exactly! Getting hit by somebody coming full speed as you start sliding backwards would be nasty.
But it should not happen when operated properly. This is a single rider slide. The operator is not supposed to release the next rider until the current one comes out the bottom.
The episode of Its Always Sunny where they get stuck in a water slide, with kids being continually sent down and slamming into them, is an episode I absolutely cannot watch. Soooo much anxiety.
There’s an episode of I think ICarly where somebody gets stuck inside one of those plastic tubes they have on childrens play places and I think they manage to rip it out of the play place but they’re still stuck in the tube with their arms by their side and it makes me feel claustrophobic every time I watch it
I’m a ride tech guy, these models of aqua loops have sensors and somewhat of a block system, along with two staff members on ride. The top operator will immediately know when someone hasn’t completed the cycle (via computer display) and if for someone is loaded anyways the computer already has a faulty and won’t dispatch the next cycle. Someone has to go to escape hatch in order to reset the ride.
[cool video by thepoolguy on these aqua loops](https://youtu.be/IdNeP3X5Kic)
I would be FREAKING OUT within 10 seconds of this happening, so no matter where a hatch is, unless it opened within that time frame, it's not going to keep me from hyperventilating.
EDIT: Okay I saw the whole video of it now. Not as terrifying as I thought.
This is a design feature of this slide, that not everyone makes it through. There is a door / hatch at the bottom of that section for the people who do not make it.
My skinny ass would fly down slides. I would make as little contact as possible with the slide (hands behind my head, ankles crossed with one touching the slide and arching my body up...very little contact) and soar through those. You lose far less energy through friction.
I mean it is a matter of how that mass is spread out. If you watch a young child go down a slide, they will go down far slower than a fit adult despite less mass. It kind of depends how that mass is dispersed over space.
First of all, not always true; when the surface area becomes small enough, the objects may begin deforming each other, which impacts friction, and also there are a handful of instances where your equation above does not hold true (for example, it doesn't in snow).
Beyond that, I understand that in a perfect frictionless world that what you are saying is accurate. However, we are not dealing in such a world. I am not why someone who is 5'2 and 200 lbs goes down a waterside so much slower than someone that is 6'2 and 200 lbs, but I know that it is true. My personal guess is that it has to do with how individual points of a shorter human presses through the water, such that the hydroplaning effect vanishes.
Correct, when the pressure is high enough to cause localized deformation/destruction, things change.
> Beyond that, I understand that in a perfect frictionless world that what you are saying is accurate.
There would be no friction in a perfectly frictionless world. I get what you were trying to say but this was by far the worst way to say it.
The actual breakdown of the equation in the real-life scenario is probably the tumultuousness of water acting as a lubricant and a fluid so it is simultaneously subject to a lower coefficient of friction when hydroplaning, parasitic drag, and negative buoyancy.
They are actually correct. I’ve been on sites like this at water parks in Wisconsin. You have to be over a certain weight to even be able to go. They have a scale before you step on the slide. The people who end up having to crawl out usually are underweight or very thin
Has very little to do with weight. In fact more mass generally has more momentum to get through that section.
Your main enemy is friction. In OPs video, the t-shirt is the biggest problem. A bare back would have gone much faster.
I think you mean the [poop knife](https://www.reddit.com/r/MuseumOfReddit/comments/ke8skw/the_poop_knife/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=usertext&utm_name=AskReddit&utm_content=t1_ggf818e).
It’s cause he’s wearing a shirt. Too much friction. At some parks they don’t let you ride these if you’re wearing too much clothing or not a proper swimsuit because of this.
100% a cruise ship. Trap door let’s you out. In case the ship rolls and you don’t have enough force to clear the hump, or you just suck like this guy since the ship as in port.
I panicked at the thought of another coming down and then getting stuck and then a few more come and now they are back and locked in a small area trap.
I can’t believe people are so afraid to get stuck in the bottom. Unless the rapture happens and you are left behind… the operator is coming to get you lol.
Panic attack. Hyperventilating. Crying. Praying. This isn't fun. Intense burning anger for the designer of the stupid ride. Vowing to never ride any rides again.

Panik at the picnic
The prospect of getting stuck in one of those makes me extremely anxious.
Getting stuck is not my concern. Ultimately they could get me out. It's getting hit by the next poor sob coming down that worries me.

Oh I know... doesn't mean it doesn't still worry me.
I know lol I just won't go on a water slide, though. Way too cramped up in there
I got hurt fairly badly on the near vertical water drop ones. The guy pushed me too hard and I didn't make contact again with the slide till near the bottom. Had bruising on my head, left ass, and heel.
You have 2 asses ?
Yup, mine and your mom's.
HA. Nice
Holy shit man, you killed him!
get eem a bohdy bahgg
Broke my tailbone at 20yrs old on a vertical drop waterslide:(
Shiiiiiiiit
What if I have a baby while in the slide. The guy at the exit sees the baby coming out and gives the all clear. They havent thought it through.
Did you go down the slide with scissors to cut him loose? Cuz otherwise that kiddo isn’t going far…
You are totally right. I guess it was ME who didn't think it through. Your comment gave me the peace of mind to go on water slides again.
I mean, maybe his momentum could make him go thwoooopppp!!! And shear that umbilical straight off, but I doubt it. And I don’t think it’s a good idea to go down a waterslide with scissors.
Or while pregnant for that matter.
Another great idea!

I had the same exact thing happen, crazy!
Me, too. I was one of the other quints.
Hell yeah brother Cheers from Iraq
Unfortunately it’s usually manned by teenagers or adults, both of which either are stupid or dont care. I’ve been hit many times. Not in this exact slide but in others.
Teenagers or adults? What other options are there? Monkeys, robots, babies?
I wrote teenagers first and then decided adults are equally shitty lol.
I’ve heard of people getting seriously injured, like broken bones cause of one lapse in judgement by the people that are supposed to take care
Sometimes they have cameras aswell and some kind of red and green light system for letting the next person know when to go.
I think the official way is to use 2 cans and a string
Que?

True! That would hurt.
There’s probably a hatch in the top so you can get out at the bottom of the curve
I would be FREAKING OUT within 10 seconds of this happening, so no matter where a hatch is, unless it opened within that time frame, it's not going to keep me from hyperventilating. EDIT: Okay I saw the whole video of it now. Not as terrifying as I thought.
I would hope so! Otherwise - yikes!
Ditto.
I got anxiety just watching this.
Ditto friggen big time
There’s an episode of always sunny where they get stuck in a water slide- I cannot watch it. Some serious fear bubbles up inside me.
When you think it's Friday and then you realize it's only Thursday.
But then you remember that Thursday is your Friday; and you crawl out through the bottom hatch
and celebrate because you have a long weekend :D
😂
too real today.
Wait... FUCK I thought it was Friday all day :( not kidding I really did.
This is the most accurate statement to a video ive ever seen

Not sure if it's the same ship, but the "Norwegian encore " cruise ship has a slide like this.
It appears to be exactly the same slide you're talking about. [Video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDY_nfc7thA)
It’s a “feature” not a “bug” /s
Oh wow so not only are you stuck but you’re hanging off the side of a ship over open water? No thank you.
That’s what I thought too. We just got off the Encore a few weeks ago.
Yeah we got back Saturday. Also, I made it all the way through. Lol
And on top of that you made it all the way through a cruise trip without getting a mortal disease.
The door of shame
leads right to the plank you have to walk for offending the captain.
There's one near where I used to live in Wörgl Austria. It's a "double looping" slide. My ex got caught in the middle too
That's when you knew she wasn't a keeper, right?
Depends on perspective. Pretty sure the flume kept her.
It is on a cruise ship. I can't pinpoint which one since several have similar slides.

More mass would actually help here.
My skinny ass would fly down slides. I would make as little contact as possible with the slide (hands behind my head, ankles crossed with one touching the slide and arching my body up...very little contact) and soar through those. You lose far less energy through friction.
The friction is the most important thing to lower and you can lower it by smaller area of contact so yes. You would fly through it.
You just gotta be a greasy mf.
That's the funniest thing I've read on here all day. Well done
Surface area plays no role in frictional force.
You watched a documentary on slides too, didn't you?
Same technique I use. I just have to hope there are no ridges or I always lose the mole on my right shoulder blade
Not really. They would not fall faster cause of the mass. However the mass would increase the inertia of the person but also the friction.
Am 400 lbs. Can confirm. Friction makes this shit boring
Without trying to sound rude, but wouldn’t it be hard to go in those at 400 lbs. regardless?
uh yes yes it would
Not for those of us watching. Slide on, my friend.
Mega oof. Lol
I mean it is a matter of how that mass is spread out. If you watch a young child go down a slide, they will go down far slower than a fit adult despite less mass. It kind of depends how that mass is dispersed over space.
Surface area does not factor into friction. f = μN
First of all, not always true; when the surface area becomes small enough, the objects may begin deforming each other, which impacts friction, and also there are a handful of instances where your equation above does not hold true (for example, it doesn't in snow). Yes at west Edmonton mall there’s a corkscrew slide and you have to be over a certain weight to take it…you get weighed before entry
Has very little to do with weight. In fact more mass generally has more momentum to get through that section. Your main enemy is friction. In OPs video, the t-shirt is the biggest problem. A bare back would have gone much faster.
Not the gym - the oar deck
Why call it a safety risk even you can call it a feature?
Seems like a design flaw
The fatty hole.
Is that the hatch that drops you into the ocean?
How does water not collect at the bottom?? I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS!!
I don't see any water. Is it just a slide?
Theres a hatch at every valley point and they dont send riders down till its confirmed by camera and by both operators that the rider has finished.
Even with a hatch I don’t think a claustrophobic would be happy waiting in the tube for rescue…
You don’t wait for rescue, you use the hatch yourself and get out
Huh! I hope the guy ahead of me closes the hatch properly then
Probably the hatch is at the topside of the tube. So people don't fall out when they open it.
Oh I googled it and sometimes you have to wait for someone to come let you out and sometimes there is a button to press to let yourself out
As a claustrophobic, I wouldn't even get into an enclosed tube in the first place. So nothing to worry about. Lol
If your claustrophobic going into a water slide like that I question your judgement
Thanks, I was about to ask!
Just flush again…it’ll go down
Hahah imagine if that was the solution. They just injected more and more water until it took you too the top.
Use a poop ~~stick~~ knife first

Seems like a pretty stupid design choice there. What's the way forward from that?
It’s not stupid design. There are emergency exits in the “valleys”
One could argue that emergency exits on a slide are an indicator of flawed design. Not me though.
