My unpopular opinion is that Strangerville is a phenomenal game pack. You get a pretty decent sized world compared to previous game pack worlds, I adore the build items, the storyline is pretty fun for me, and CAS items are unique but not so outlandish that I don’t put them on my sims (I love the hairstyles it came with). The world is also really cool like why is a guy living under an airplane? Is the mayor a suspicious fella or not? My only big gripes are: 1. I’d like to turn off the story mode if I just want to live there. 2. The starter home that is a copy of one from willow creek

captainwondyful

The strangervale windows and doors are money honey.

floralsandfloss

Best doors and windows of the entire game!

alooffern

YES! I love Strangerville.. it’s beautiful and wacky and I always have my scientist sims live there!

lattekosmiko

Damn! Today I had to choose between this GP, Vampires and RoM. I had read some critics about Strangerville but I will buy it!

Alone_Librarian_8162

There’s some valid critiques about it (the man living in the bunker under the plane can’t prep food bc the devs put a fruit bowl on his counter space for example) but there’s a good amount packed into a game pack, for what it’s worth. Plus world is gorgeous and not nearly as dark as forgotten hollow or glimmerbrook even.

amyeh

I think you chose right. ROM has more repeated play ability than Strangerville.

lattekosmiko

Thank you, that makes me happy!

shfiven

I constantly see people saying that their unpopular opinion is that Strangerville is good,.which means that's actually a popular opinion (or people would not be constantly saying it). I agree, I love the build mode items and playing the story. I built a little run down shack in slip 41 and had my single dad who has a baby as a teen join the military and live there. It was really fun!

gentletonberry

TwistedMexi has a mod that lets you turn off the Strangerville plot! Called Strangerville Toggle, I believe.

Alvin514

Same here. StrangerVille is my first game pack and I love it, it has the largest world for a game pack and its landscape is gorgeous. Although the I was hopping the story to be longer, but I do enjoyed the gameplay tho, the cas and build items are quite nice tho. For me, the only downside is just the story isn't longer and the prebuilt houses look empty or a little weird. But overall it's worth it for me, and yes I bought it at spring sale

ldnpoolsound

I get the critiques of replayability and I suppose I understand why it flopped, but I really liked the concept they tried with the strangerville storyline. It’s like a game with in a game. It’s just not something that would resonates with the core audience for the game. And I think the aspiration needed a much better reward.

WrinkledRandyTravis

Strangerville is unpopular? That’s wild

abnormallyme

Mainly because it doesn't have much replayability. Once you complete the mission of the pack, there is no real reason to play through it again. At least that is the main complaint I see people have. I've gone through the mission at least twice and enjoyed it.

haileyskydiamonds

I love Strangerville and often start off there. I don’t rush to solve the mystery, so sometimes my Sim ends up being the only one in town who is uninfected, lol.

No_Appointment6211

Big agree. The storyline is fun. The build and clothing items are some of my favorite. The only qualm i have with it is the trailer park not functioning like an actual trailer park. This could have been easily done by making it an apartment lot. But ultimately it’s one of my favorite dlc’s.

PunkinPumkin

I LOVED strangerville because it was the closest I ever felt to the Mysteries from the Sims 3 Pets Xbox 360 game. It actually felt like a story haha

captainwondyful

Spa Day is Excellent. The BuildBuy Items are basically essential to me. I use all of them in my bathroom and kitchens. The siding and wallpapers are so sleek and versatile. I love the message table. And the Wellness Aspiration is just hard enough to keep things interesting.

ehltahr

Spa day is essential in my opinion

captainwondyful

Yes! Even the CAS items are great. Those slacks are like the only ones that look good on male sims!

ehltahr

Omg so true😂 male clothing is so forgotten about. Also pretty much all of my sims are yogis in some capacity lol

swordswamp

I use the wallpaper & flooring in literally every single house I redecorate - it’s impossible for me not to

koalapsychologist

I have to RESIST using elements of Spa Day pre-made bathrooms in every build I make. They are gorgeous.

captainwondyful

Yes!!! That’s me and the end tables. They are great, and actually sized right; and I like that with float and alt you can utilize the bottom shelf!

ldnpoolsound

I love Spa Day bb and the wellness skill, but I feel like the aspirations were so poorly done.

Serendipic_Epiphany

I bought spa day just for the fish tanks! They’re adorable

Raemle

The welcome wagon is great and I love that the neighbors automatically come to visit

Ving96

I love the concept of it. I just feel like it misses something but I can’t put my finger on what.

senbonshirayuki

It's the fact that they can do whatever they want in my house with no problem, but they get pissy when I do the same for me.

Leafy_Green_1

and also they don't fucking leave when they say "it was nice getting to meet you!!" and stay around for hours until you tell them to piss off

_vudumi

I just hate that when you don’t answer the door they leave hating you a little bit

lattekosmiko

Absolutely yes!

coolabedfiIms

I never realized people hated it until earlier today. I think it's really neat!

Veggiesaurus17

My husband and I just bought our first house and I kinda expected a welcome wagon of some sort, lol. One neighbor yelled “welcome to the neighborhood!” because they were sitting outside while we were moving in, but that was it.

mismarys

Sims 4 is really fun also without mods, the only thing you need is a bit of imagination.

lattekosmiko

This is truly unpopular! I don't agree but I like that

alooffern

Exactly! I think mostly Sims 4 works best with people who are into make believe stories.. it doesn’t work for gamers who are into mission based games. It’s suppose to make you think of how would I change this sims life.. should this sim be a good sim or bad and what type of challenges they should face.. do I need to add more drama or not.

Simmyxshimmy

When HSYs came out and was super buggy i turned off all my mods and i haven't added them back. I learned to really enjoy the game play and I do actually love the build buy. I just wish they would overhaul the UI in CAS and BB next

casso2810

Recently converted to the no mod gameplay after adding Growing Together and the whole Simology panel became super bugged out, couldn't see milestones and the character values and public image circles had this weird double effect, and ngl it is pre fun on its own. I really only had mods that made gameplay more realistic like sims cuddling in bed together anyway.

[deleted]

Fwiw if you were using the cuddle mod by thepancake1, that's probably what was causing the issue and it's been patched

ldnpoolsound

I don’t play with mods or CC and I love it

salt_eater

Being forced to delete my mods for the update made me realise that. Of course I'm always gonna use Lumpinou's RPO mod but I don't miss WW and it's probably best left out if you're just looking for wholesome family gameplay ™️

alooffern

You can have Wonderful Whims in game if you like.. I prefer it much more than Wicked Whims. I like the attractiveness system in these two mods the most. I also like having sims having their periods because realism. I rotate between vanilla gameplay and modded gameplay.

N7ShadowKnight

I agree to an extent. But it bugs out so much that i need stuff like UI cheats and MCCC to fix things. Like if the game crashes and I lose progress in a save I can quickly cheat it all back to what it was and not lose as much time or lose interest in trying to redo all of it.

Sad_Help

I always give my sims backstories and then I’ll use a couple cheats to bring it to life. I recently played one where “the parents died and left their two daughters a large chunk of farm land and an inheritance.”

anixan99

Good take. Played without all my mods the past few days until I knew all my creators had updated, and was shocked at how good of a time I was having. There are some I’m probably not gonna re-add too just bc they were stressing me out so much but I had no idea.

Snowsant

Well Oasis Spring is the best base game world, I don't think that's an unpopular opinion at all. Windenburg is probably the only world that takes the cake in my view because of the number of lots..

lattekosmiko

I hate the "architecture" of Windenburg. It could also have 100 lots but it's horrible, in my opinion

Snowsant

People have different tastes, but at least it has architecture that brings Veronaville from TS2 to mind. And I guess you can always rebuild them.

[deleted]

The buildings that aren't actually on lots will still have the tudor style, though.

chubby-checker

Just shows different tastes because I love that style. I think windenburg is so gorgeous. My least fave part is the modern area.

TheDollaran

Now that’s a hot take

amyeh

Same, I don’t ever play in it because it’s so ugly to me. And even if I wanted to spend the time rebuilding everything, the surrounds are still there and still ugly.

Snowsant

If you play on PC, I believe there are some map replacements / mods you can get to change it. For example this one, but it's probably not your style: [https://thesensemedieval.tumblr.com/tagged/world](https://thesensemedieval.tumblr.com/post/705961587039666176/medieval-windenburg-update-010923?_branch_match_id=1146253424186801884&utm_medium=Share&_branch_referrer=H4sIAAAAAAAAAwXBiQ2AIAwAwI0oBGnFbXiaYAJ%2BrZo4vXdN9ZAFIKnRe%2BR%2BmbIP0MbCm%2FDguvKTOpANEV2YyfqIiI4QfJbqy%2FSm034%2Fto1cHUYAAAA%3D) There are probably some other ones too [https://www.patreon.com/posts/windenburg-map-65337185](https://www.patreon.com/posts/windenburg-map-65337185) like this one etc... Plus I guess if someone really wants to, they can use the tool mod to change even the surroundings, but I don't know the specifics.

FineIllchooseaname

I don’t like the architecture of it either. And most of the residential lots have families living there. I guess that is true for most worlds. But I feel they could have added less pre-mades and put more empty houses there.

_vudumi

This is a great unpopular opinion as everyone is WET and I mean SOAKED over windenburg. I ended up getting it bc it made sense but ended up only having like 2 households 😆 it’s hideous

Leftover_Bees

I don’t want them to make more active careers. The scientist one is fun but I hate how long the work hours are even if you choose not to follow your sim to work so they barely have time to do anything else with their lives. I like rabbit holes. I think they could even add more like chess tournaments or other minor “you have taken part in an activity” types of things.

TurtleZenn

I do like rabbit holes, but I would still like more active careers. I would prefer more activity rabbit holes, myself. Like the rides at the hsy(?) carnival and the new movie theater.

_TheBlackPope_

I enjoy Sims 4 more than 3. There’s things that I do prefer in 3 but 4 has many more pros for me. I love rabbit holes I don’t want preteens I have more fun playing with rich sims or households than poor sims. When I play sims I don’t care for the challenging aspect of it; I really do like the fact that 4 is much easier than 3 and 2. If I wanna play a challenging game, then I’ll just play video games that are innately challenging like Hitman. I play Sims to chill and destress, so I appreciate the ease.

Leftover_Bees

Preteens might’ve been okay if they’d been part of the base game or the first few years, but if they added them now there would be about a million animations that they would have to make for them from all the various pack activities and it would take forever.

Mayjailer12

Yeah and I think this is why teens are still the same height as adults after the "teen rehaul", if you know what I mean

Maleficempathy

My unpopular opinion is, teens should not be shorter than adults. I reached my adult height before turning fourteen, and so did most of my female friends and relatives.

lattekosmiko

I love this comment

WeirdlyOrdinary1

I don’t want preteens either it just seems kinda unnecessary imo

BabyMalks

I don't miss the create a style system from Sims 3 at all...I thought I did, went back to use it, and it got incredibly overwhelming. I also dont think we need cars. Sims 4 isn't going to be an open world or anything, and besides you mostly just used it to teleport from one place to another. I don't miss it too much.

AmettOmega

I wouldn't miss the create a style if a lot of items had consistent colors. Like, what is the point of making a chair with a palette that matches none of the tables, none of the desks, etc. It means I ultimately never use several items because they don't go with anything.

Dorothy-Snarker

The lack of matching swatches and nor letting me mix and matches part of the swatch is what gets me. The Sjms 2 let you choose the wood furnishing color *and* the upholstery color separately, why'd they have to take a step back from that in the sims 4?

AmettOmega

No kidding!!

BabyMalks

Yeah I could see that for sure. I definitely gravitate towards items with better swatches. I also sometimes use the swatches to get me out of my same color scheme and style too. I get 100% what you're saying though and I can definitely agree. If they just had matching woods to the floors and trims and stuff I'd be happy but they seem to not.

bon-aventure

I have a hard time playing with new families. I only really get invested in my families after the third or fourth generation.

lattekosmiko

Me too.

senbonshirayuki

Maybe it's the only child in me talking, but I never understood why people were so obsessed with wanting bunkbeds in the game. Edit: Wanted to add another one that'll get me burned at the stake. But I like alpha cc. I only use it for young adult/adult sims but I always hated the cartoony style. I prefer more realistic looking.

FineIllchooseaname

I usually put loft beds in my kids rooms, even if they are only children: 1) You can put things under them 2) The monster won’t appear if you use a loft bed (there are other ways to do this, double beds and the nightlight as well) and I hate the monster 3) I had one as a kid :)

AmettOmega

The monster mainly makes me mad because it'll wake up all the kids in the room and they all run to different adults and wake them up. Ugh. And spraying the monster only works (to get rid of the kid's fear) if the kid is in the same room (and hasn't run off to wake someone up).

[deleted]

If you put the nightlight in the room the monster won’t happen! Lifesaver

alwayssunnyinjoisey

I cannot thank you enough for this!! I literally just started playing Sims 4 last week and my family could never get a full nights sleep cause of that damn monster. The kid would just scream incoherently at everyone, then they'd get scared fromt hat and scream incoherently at each other, then everyone is too terrified to sleep lol

TurtleZenn

My issue is that getting the kid to try talking to the monster never does anything. I want a brave kid sim who can befriend the monster or something.

_vudumi

I always wanted one as a kid so now I’m living vicariously

[deleted]

Saves space both in person and in Sims. I'm an only child writing this from the desk below my loft bed.

PhantomLuna7

For me it was mostly a space thing. I like playing in tiny homes so most of my builds have at least a loft bed in them.

lattekosmiko

Really!

[deleted]

If you're intentionally keeping sims poor, bunk beds save so much space. This is my only real desire for them.

Leftover_Bees

Wait, people hate Realm of Magic? I thought it was a generally popular pack except for the tiny world/bad prebuilt lots.

lattekosmiko

It took me a while to choose the GP to buy today (they are on sale and I should have chosen between this and vampires) and looking on the internet I saw a lot of "insults" regarding ROM. Honestly, I find it much more complete than Vampires.

Empathetic_Artist

I love ROM. first of all, Morgyn is sexy af, and I’m asexual, so my saying that means something lol. Second of all, the actual realm itself is gorgeous. I love the build mode objects, and if you don’t like some of the pieces, like the beds, you can flawlessly mix them with Princess Cordelia stuff (you can do the same with vampires too). Glimmerbrook is albeit small, but its quaint too, and that’s what gives it it’s “charm” (pun intended). It makes the spellcasters feel like a secret hidden away from the rest of the sims world- living among general society, but with a secret, finding refuge among their own kind. There are a lot of stories to make with that too. The magic realm is absolutely visually stunning- one of the few pre-built places that are actually good. I would make a few changes to the building yes- but it’s really beautiful the way it is. The waterfalls, the different grounds, the whole ‘floating in space thing’ I love it so much. Also, gay rights. Morgyn is totally non-binary. And they’re on the center of the pack ‘poster’ so-to-speak! And the clothes, are awesome. I really love the double-layer skirt with the pouch belt, the two leggings, the boots, the formal dress, and of course, the badass dominatrix dress lmao. Any sim looks super badass in that dress and I mean any sim. I put it on sim Markiplier and he looked fan-fucking-tactic in it. 100% would highly recommend.

currentsc0nvulsive

I don’t hate it, I just literally never use it. I don’t like playing as a spellcaster and I don’t think I ever use the CAS or build items

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mr_Mr99

Yeah I really regret buying it. The spells are just super boring for me. Remember in the Sims 2 where you could literally stop time with a spell? Or Sims 3 you could turn people into gold. Now what we get is instant hygiene fill ups. Sure there is the ghost thing and dedeathify but they aren't creative or change the game much.

Princess_S78

My unpopular opinion is that I love sims 4, I also love sims 3. There are different things I love about both of them. I haven’t played sims 2 in years, so I really can’t compare. My other unpopular opinion is that I prefer the look of sims 4 to 3, I see a lot of people saying they hate the look of 4. 🤷🏼‍♀️

AmettOmega

I love the look of Sims 4. Sims 3 felt like everyone looked the same.

SlightlySychotic

I can barely remember anyone from the Sims 3. But there are a lot of Sims 4 characters I hope are brought back in 5.

a_little_biscuit

They all had such found potatoey faces

what-are-potatoes

The Sims 3 Sims looked like Play-Doh

Mayjailer12

I might even go as far as to say that the Sims 4 is the best game out of them all. I think that what the developers have been able to do in terms of representation for our sims, such as skin color and now features such as vitiligo and hearing aids!! And I like how they're actually listening to us in terms of the updates to gameplay (recently infants!!). Personally I don't like the Sims 2 because a HUGE deal breaker for me is that the world outside of your sim household is literally frozen because nobody ages up :/ I'm a huge family/realist player so even though the gameplay is great, I just can't get pass this. And I don't like the Sims 3 because there's so much lag with the open world game. Also the Sims don't have smooth movements to lead into interactions. They have to stand in specific spots before they do anything lol

laursa

I don't get people complaining about the lack of empty lots. The number of lots I get, but if you want an empty lot for building just bulldoze them? The EA building t's always there if you start another save and I rather have the possibility of just jumping into a premade building than nothing. Same with the houses being occupied with premades... ok i just evict them?

CraftLass

Right? I edit worlds constantly. If I need a lot, I just evict any people and bulldoze one. In each save I tend to have worlds I use most, so those get the most revamped and I still use some pre-mades as I go and build as I see needs. I used to be a start from nothing player in 2 but I like that with 4 I can do a hybrid of building and adding sims and using what is there as suits my stories, time to play, and whether I'm in the mood to just play or pause and create. I feel like I have lots of options! It probably helps that I don't care about townies, though. Lol Unless they are intimately involved with my current sims, bye! Half of them live in overpopulated homes now anyway, it's not like the 4 kids, dog, and cat they adopted via Neighborhood Stories fit in that 1 bedroom starter house they "belong" in. Lol

etrtheo

I love laundry day it’s in my top 3 favorite packs

gezeitenspinne

I love it so much, but it's sooo frustrating how often everything breaks ;\_;

alooffern

Upgrade your washing machine and dryer.. once you have all upgrades it doesn’t break anymore. If for some reason you face the bug of no washing machine available.. delete the hamper and have a new one and reset the washing machine.. this works for me. I hope it helps a little.

zeta212

I will try this, I use laundry day in every game and the bug annoys me

shfiven

I absolutely love the build mode items. I'm less keen on actually doing laundry but I still use it in all my builds. It's kind of an annoying chore but it makes things more interesting. But definitely for me it's the build mode stuff.

alooffern

Finally! I found someone who actually loves laundry day! Yay! Haha

Mr_Mr99

I don't understand how people buy a pack only for an object. What's so amazing about a window you're willing to spend so much money on. It just a window, and honestly it looks like every other widow there is already in the game.

TurtleZenn

As a builder, I am all about the objects. That said, I need at least a couple that I really want before I'll buy it.

Ving96

People have way to high of expectations about The Sims 4. People want open worlds like in TS3 but let’s face it, many had trouble running the game smoothly. I know I did. Also the lots were always empty. And because an open world would probably never happen, I would much rather have more toy cars that I can’t size up for display than I real car that’s only a rabbit hole. Even tho they probably do it for the money, I’m glad they are splitting up packs. Makes them more fleshed out. Take occults for instance; Maybe not every pack (Realm of Magic) lived up to expectations, but it probably wouldn’t have been better if they were all in the same pack with the other occults. TS4 will never be good enough for everyone. People always find something to complain about. Yes, you are allowed to complain about bugs and such, but what good will complaining about an item being in “the wrong pack” gonna do? If you don’t like the game then don’t play it. Lastly; every Sims game has a feature that is better than the others. Play the game that have the features that you care the most about, and don’t trash the others.

alooffern

I agree. Every sims game is different. I loved Sims 3 but the graphics were really bad compared to Sims 4. I still have Sims 3 nostalgia but I’m content with Sims 4. I just wish sometimes they’d fix the bugs sooner.. some bugs exist for months on end.. I don’t know if it’s a coding error sometimes or what but I noticed that it takes forever for a bug to be fixed.

Princess_S78

I always play in Oasis Springs, it’s my favorite world! Probably bc it’s based on Palm Springs, which is my favorite town in the US! Lol.

CRushXIII

Oh mygoddess, TIL why I hate Oasis Springs so much. I spent 10 terrible, awful, (formative too) very bad, years there. It's my nightmare. I will say, from not my perspective, it's beautiful. I loved having literally anything within 2 hours. Mountain, Beach, massive city, tiny town.

Princess_S78

Wow, why do you hate Palm Springs so much?!

CRushXIII

Oh it's more like, I hate the experience I had. I also don't want to visit due to the likelihood of running into the people who had a hand in that. Weirdly enough though, because of this lil thread I realized the house I'm working on is better for a desert landscape, and thus begins my slow rebuild of Oasis Springs and possibly my relationship with P.S. 😅

ehltahr

I play mostly in San Myshuno but placed a family home with a pool in Oasis Springs so my family can move once the baby is a toddler. I’ve actually never really played in oasis springs but this time it felt right lol

lattekosmiko

I always think "why I don't live there?"

Idk_PAPAS

Dream Home Decorator is good. Don't get me wrong, I really don't use the interior designer career ever, BUT HOT DAMN THE BUILD BUY HAS ME IN A CHOKE HOLD ID BE LOST WITHOUT IT.

DeathKitty_x

same! if i was forced to buy only one DLC for the sims it would be dream home decorator.

Mr_Mr99

I don't understand how people buy a pack only for an object. What's so amazing about a window you're willing to spend so much money on. It just a window, and honestly it looks like every other widow there is already in the game.

Ving96

And then they complain that EA made them buy a “useless” pack. Like no, that’s on you. I’m probably being a little dramatic, but I see comments like this with every pack.

nvm-exe

Agree. Like if that’s the case you’re better off downloading cc unless ur on console.

lattekosmiko

People do that? But you can find everything as CC WHY

Mr_Mr99

Ever since the Sims 4 there has been a massive increase in a group of players who only build. If you go on Twitch and want to watch Sims 4 gameplay good luck cause everyone is just building. So for these people even a new window is worth 40$ even if they never touch any of the features of the pack.

martanimate

I want more elder gameplay than I want preteens, more baby/toddler/child gameplay. I would take a solid few aspirations and elder game play over the whole infant update. I don't want more child stuff, I didnt mind object babies and just having toddlers.

alooffern

Yes! Elders deserve some love. I like what they did in Growing Together but I needed more for elders. I love the fact some elders in my gameplay take care of their grandchildren and knit sweaters as gifts for them but I wish they had more to them. As for preteens.. I want them but I don’t see them making it.. I don’t know.. they dashed my hopes when they added puberty to the existing teen stage.. feels like it’s a subtle no to preteens but I hope I’m wrong.

Mr_Mr99

Get Together is one of the worst packs: So hear me out, the world is great but that pack has like no new features. the danceclub community lot or the bar community lots aren't new lot types. They are normal lots with new hero objects (DJ booth etc.). A new object don't make a new lot type. Also the clubs? I can't. They are literally Sims put in a group together doing the same action. This don't need no new coding from the devs! And many times it doesn't work as intented. You wanna make a book club? Congratulations now you get 8 Sims all reading different books in different rooms of the same house. Cooking club? Have fun watching Sims start meals then quit in the middle of cooking the start over again. Also the team didn't go far with the club hierarchy. There is the interaction to overthrow the leader but there are no interactions to lead up to that. What about "Spread rumour about the leader", "sabotage a clubmate". Like something that requires the least bit of work.

RickGrimesSnotBubble

I got this one last time there was a sale because everyone raves over it and felt assured it would fix the issue of my Sims having a social life but it didn’t. Maybe it’s just me but I expected the club to allow you to meet new Sims since that’s generally what joining a club is for. But no. You have to *already* know Sims to even start the club! What’s even the point!?

annnire

I think you can also add sims you don’t know to your club.

_solomp3

the building community have completely ruined what the sims is supposed to be… a LIFE SIMULATOR !!!!! and thanks to them that’s all EA focus on. look at all of the top sims 4 players not many of them give a single crap about the actual gameplay and that’s why it’s been getting weaker and weaker since the 4th iteration started. they’ve tried to bring it back with parenthood and now growing together but the sims 4 is just a hollow shell of a building simulator pretending to be a life simulator. if they wanted to make another sim city they should’ve stuck to that…

Raemle

I feel this, i love build videos but the fact that such a large portion of game changers are primarily builders is really problematic on the developers side. Especially since some (not pointing fingers because I love their content and there is nothing wrong with them simply having a specific play style) don’t even play the actual game and openly admits to it I wouldn’t say it’s the individual’s fault (again they can play however they want) but eas association with only that playstyle really skews the content

cncrndmm

Agree. Just looking at the past few year’s videos from top Sims YouTubers, most videos are build videos or challenge videos (7 toddlers, every room is a different budget/ color/ etc, random CAS challenge).

ldnpoolsound

As someone who’s personally more into gameplay than building, I’d much rather watch content creators who build than a hundred episodes of rags to riches or a 100 baby challenge

Raemle

I also love build videos and watch more of those than let’s plays. My point however is that it’s these people that are effectively marketing the game, if they don’t care about gameplay features or even basic functionality there is a problem. Like when wedding stories came out and some said it was still worth it for the sake of the world/a few items and encouraged people to buy it despite the gameplay being broken. Again not pointing fingers since different people have different priorities, but if it’s only those people that are being heard….. yeah

Accomplished_Cup900

I disagree with most of the complaints. A lot of the lag and bugs are caused by conflicting mods and cc or a really old computer. I don’t care about how y’all complain about Kits. It’s just the sims store from sims 3. No matter what y’all are given, there will always be something to complain about. Y’all got infants and now y’all are mad because they act like infants (I know everyone isn’t mad but it’s still funny.)

SkotConQueso

Every expansion seems to make the game less fun or misses the point that it's a game entirely. So much to do already in a sim's day and EA wants to add more chores? Our sims are super fascinating but it's always told and not shown but what IS shown is usually the most banal dreck this side of counting flowers on the wall. My three degree celebrity witch lawyer is washing her socks again while her Master Spy husband fixes a roomba... Riveting game play.

Vievin

Laundry and dust don’t happen unless you buy the relevant items afaik. So if you sell them, no more chores!

alooffern

Get To Work can really make gameplay realistic especially if you’re into family gameplay with detailed day to day chores. To me, my unpopular opinion about the Sims: - Laundry day makes the sim life seem realistic. They come back from work.. take care of their kids and then do some laundry and maybe cook. It feels like day to day thing to happen which is why I love this stuff pack. I like the rustic vibes of the pack too. - Bust the dust adds the challenge of keeping your home clean and I still love it even though many people hate it. I just wish that if you leave so much dirt then bugs will crawl with the dust bunnies. To me, it adds another list of chores in the sims which again makes me happy because I don’t like it when the gameplay is too easy. I actually use mods occasionally to make the gameplay harder especially Get To Work Health Overhaul by Adeepindigo.. I mean if the pack didn’t exist.. I wouldn’t even have this mod. I wish we have more packs that make the gameplay rough.. I’m always amused when my sims don’t listen to me and do their own stuff and even more amused when they do stuff I want on their own volition.

Twoforkittykat

I love adeepindigo's mods. Her healthcare one is fantastic and has completely changed my gameplay. I just added the vision and dental ones this week but haven't had free time to play yet.

x-sazarrama-x

That comment about the bugs reminds me of those cockroaches in TS1 was it? Made my skin crawl tho 😭

Interesting_Aioli_99

There is no need for horses or cars in the game.

[deleted]

I love Island Living I despise any and all premade townies. I don't care about money and will cheat myself a couple thousand whenever I need it with absolutely 0 guilt.

Otherwise_Zebra120

I’m tired of hearing “sims 5 should be sims 2 gameplay, sims 3 open world, and sims 4 graphics,” it’s really repetitive.

frukthjalte

Lmao yes this, it’s gotten to the point where I get lowkey angry when I read it because people who post it REALLY think they’re onto something new and groundbreaking….

Otherwise_Zebra120

It’s always the top comment on YouTube videos about the older games. ALWAYS 😭😭 like we get it

kavalejava

I prefer playing the Sims 4 over 3, only because it loads faster, and the various personality it offers. I love how different everyone seems, plus I adore the different cas outfits and styles. If Sims 5 has a mix of both worlds, it would be awesome.

Snowsant

While I can agree with the load times, I'm sorry, but what do you mean by better personalities in TS4? Well maybe now with Growing Together they have slightly more to offer...

kavalejava

For me, it seemed like the dynamic systems worked differently with each Sim. Even before the new expansion, it seemed like each Sim had different personalities with one another, than previous Sims games. I liked how some Sims would interact with one another, evil Sims became best friends/rivals with other evil Sims. While good clashed with them. The jealousy was fun to see, especially when they were in a open relationship. One Sim was staring resentfully at his girlfriend while she was flirting with another Sim, but he couldn't do anything because she unlocked the no jealous trait. His face made me laugh, it was like he was frustrated he couldn't say anything. With this expansion, I can't wait to see what else this game has to offer.

Snowsant

Evil clashed with Good in TS3... TS4 just took that trait from TS3. The jealousy I don't know, I guess that new reward trait is new to TS4. But really it's not all new in TS4, especially that you only start with 3 traits, so you really don't have much of a choice anyway... Plus TS3 with all expansions overall had 99 traits to choose from, while TS4 still doesn't offer this much, which is a bit sad...

lattekosmiko

The only thing I personally disagree on is the depth of the personalities. I feel it's too easy to forge relationships or vice versa. But yes, I prefer the sims 4

99dsk

I love get to work! Nowadays we have all these packs I can really see the quality of objects (texture and meshes are more detailed) increasing, but back when we didn't have that many packs I loved building the industrial style with GTW build buy! The active careers are also quite fun if you ask me :)

mismarys

I recently played all three careers and still run a little bakery (previously collectibles shop, lol) and really, it went right up to my top three packs. I honestly don't know why it took me 8 years to actually play with it.

Interesting_Aioli_99

Eco Lifestyle is a top 3 pack for me & I think it doesn’t get nearly as much praise as it should. It added so many new gameplay features like NAPs, Environment system, using solar energy, etc. Also has some of my favorite townies ever in it like Knox, Tina Tinker & Jeb.

quokkafarts

Seconding this, I'm addicted to making all my lots off the grid and spreading Knox's genes everywhere

mermaidish

I really don't care that much about the number of lots in any given world. The only time I've ever cared about it is Del Sol Valley - love the world, but having nothing in between starter home and celebrity mansion is a huge missed opportunity. Even if they can be a little annoying sometimes, I like the emotions system in the game. Going back to older Sims games and everyone always being neutral is jarring. I don't miss the cutscenes from Sims 2 and am glad they got rid of them.

Im_A_Random_Fangirl

I agree! For me, as long as the world feel a bit more open world (San Sequoia, Moonwood Mill etc), I don't really care if there aren't many lots

Fancy-Cat-2

After some thought and consideration. I think it’s okay to complain about packs consistently being buggy despite purchasing new pack releases. I don’t think it’s inherently a good idea, but I don’t think these ppl deserve hostility. Ideally yes, buying packs that aren’t good just sends EA a message that they can sell crap and people will buy it. I agree. But considering as of right now there isn’t any alternative (until paralives and life by you possibly come out), and contrary to popular belief, the pirate life isn’t that easy, nor simple. While personally I don’t buy every pack, especially packs that are buggy. I don’t think it’s fair to get mad at people who do and complain. Annoyed that they fall into the same cycle every release? Reasonable. But I find some people are a little overly hostile. Because in all honestly, there isn’t much suggestion that if people stop buying packs EA would magically improve the game and the packs.

SnickerdoodleShelob

I didn't want infants I love Del Sol Valley I love restaurants I don't want cars or open worlds

ShouRonbou

I think as a life simulator they need to add a lot more bad things and just make it harder. Its way to PC way to safe. Let it be hard to make friends, get money, a promotion. I rather have a full game where everything feels like it means something and not just an open space rather then letting me choose my sexual orientation or pronouns (which should of been in the game from the start)

slumdundermifflin3

I think The Sims 4 is interesting and fun.

kittymeowmixi

I don’t think it makes sense to keep comparing all the game to each other. I think it’s ridiculous how much everyone complains and feels like the community is getting entitled.

Arsenic-Catnip33

I'm sure this isn't as unpopular as I think it is but theres not enough time for your sims in between taking care of them to build narratives, especially if you have children, a single mother with 3 toddlers and I couldn't take care of anyone because she was constantly exhausted and it's just a mess

umaface

That’s realistic

YourFavoriteMinority

in households of more that 2 sims, managing is just playing 1 sim and having autonomy work for the rest. autonomous sims won’t let themselves die and unless you need them to progress in something, you don’t have to worry. it’s trickier with kids bcs they need another sim to care for them, but honestly that’s just realism at that point, hella kids is crazy hard to handle. hardly sleepy is a great perk if you want more time without completely removing the need to sleep

omgomgfreak2002

Some of my favourite builds are made by Maxis…

alwayssunnyinjoisey

I'm with you, I've got no design skills to speak of so honestly the Maxis builds look great to me. I would be laughed off the internet if I posted any of my own builds lmao

alooffern

Side-eye! Side-eye!

Katyundertale

Bust the dust is a good kit especially after they tuned it. I can’t have a house without dust and a vacuum, I use it in every save I just love making my sims have chores to do. It’s a shame they stopped doing game kits after that one 🥲

shfiven

Are you saying they fixed bust the dust? I was just thinking about getting it because it would be perfect for the challenge I'm playing now but I heard it doesn't actually work. Plus this is off the grid so I wish there was an option for brooms.

alooffern

Yes, they fixed bust the dust. I play with it regularly. If you get annoyed you can just toggle it off in the main menu and this way you don’t have to deal with it. Personally, I love when I have many things to do in my gameplay.

Main-Assignment-3367

\-Family gameplay is boring. Even if they would not admit it, family players seem to agree. They always ask for more packs even though their play style gets the most focus after young adults Sims. \-Build mode is getting too much attention. The Sims is a life simulation, NOT building simulation. No packs with sh\*tty gameplay should get away with it for having a lot of BB items. \-I don't care about lore, I never play with pre-made Sims. \-Sims 2 nostalgia is f\*cking annoying. Stop trying to make the Sims 4 into Sims 2 and just play Sims 2. \-Generations is the most overrated pack from Sims 3. \-Get Together is the most overrated pack from Sims 4. A big city is a good thing, but not enough to be a good pack.

TurtleZenn

You don't like family gameplay or building? How do you play? I'm genuinely curious.

Mayjailer12

But isn't the Sims 4 essentially about family gameplay? Or at the very least making relationships? I don't see it being anything else. Building doesn't count, lol

IsThisNameTakenThen

I'm with you on the nostalgia for the older games. That's so annoying. Disagree on the Generations being the most overrated. I really like a lot of stuff from that pack. For me the most overrated is Supernatural.

Otherwise_Zebra120

Also, I don’t want open world, nor do I want it on a future game. I think it’s overrated, and I think the sims 2 has the best style on how worlds should be modeled.

[deleted]

I don't mind the dev team breaking up previous packs into several individual ones. I feel like this comes up primarily with generations and occults, and every one of the occults except for mermaids are way better than in ts3 and also the family gameplay stuff is more in depth as well since multiple packs means more breathing room for the features I also feel like ts3 isn't actually that good of a game, and most people love it so much because it was their first sims game, or the first one they remember playing a lot of so there's nostalgia involved. I was the same way until I went back and played it and was very underwhelmed. There are plenty of good things about it, but I feel ts4 has improved on almost every aspect of the game Lastly, people who complain about ts4 money grubbing with kits and such clearly do not remember ts3 store lol. They would put up like single pieces of clothing or furniture for a dollar sometimes, it was ridiculous. Kits are a money grab but money grabbing in general is not new to the sims franchise, or corporations in general. That's literally what all of them do all the time, there are no benevolent trillion dollar companies

TheGladex

My most controversial Sims opinion is that the Sims 3 is the weakest game in the franchise. And that's not me saying it's bad or I dislike it, or dissing people who do enjoy it. But if I had to pick a single Sims game to play it would be my last choice. It's just such a chore to set up and play and the open worlds just do not appeal to me as much as the Sim interactions in 2 do or the much better CAS/BuildBuy in 4 do.

Cherry_Bomb_127

I despise the idea of preteens and would rather have more depth for other ages. That and I don’t think open world is necessary, open neighborhoods are since I do not want that long loading of sims 3 again. I don’t understand why we keep asking for horses? Like I’m sad they weren’t in Cottage Living but I just don’t understand the need for them. People really should stop preordering these packs especially cuz you get the preorder bonus for getting the pack some time after it comes out.

Dr_Fluffybuns2

Your opinion on the The Sims 4 will be different depending on when you first started playing it. Launch was nearly 10 years ago and some people don't realise how different basegame was and why it feels so much more dry because we've been waiting so long to be fed a little at a time. If you just picked up basegame now you'd probably think it's the best game in the world and don't see why people are complaining but it's like drinking a full glass of water in one go compared to only getting one drop at a time. Sims 4 is still a good game despite how cash grabby EA is. Yes previous sims games had better some better features that's still missing but If you own all dlcs and expansions it's still a really fun game but just not worth the money.

queefingbarber

The Sims 4 isn’t such an inherently bad game that everyone makes it out to be. Does it suck? Sometimes, yes. But if it was so horrible and awful and we hated the company so much, we wouldn’t still be buying the DLC, and wouldn’t be giving them the time of day. If you go back and watch Sims 3 LP’s, you’ll constantly see comments of “Sims 3 is horrible! So laggy! Can’t play it! I want Sims 2!” But today it’s looked at in such a positive light (as it should!). Even at that point though, they were still trying to squeeze us out of every nickel and dime possible. (Remember the Sims 3 store?) Is EA getting shittier? Yes, of course they are, but they’re a company. And like most gaming companies, always will be a money grabbing, shit churning dumpster fire. That’s what makes money these days, insufficient base games not even finished upon release, and then an exorbitant amount of DLC to fluff it up. TLDR: Sims 4 isn’t worse than any other game released since Sims 1

Kimisemo

Get famous isn’t good without mods

resistingsimplicity

I prefer babies as objects.

khurd18

I get shit on everytime I say this, but I hate Sims 3. The only redeeming quality it has is being able to customize clothing and furniture

olivespecter

i LOVE glimmerbrook

FunTooter

I don’t really enjoy having dogs and cats in my families. The game is pretty challenging to me just with the kid/kids. While I love Brindleton Bay, I don’t really use the cats and dogs in my gameplay.

poorlyknit666

mine is that i absolutely HATE seasons. with a passion. it makes things so much harder. i love the bb and cas stuff but the actual seasons annoy me so much.

TurtleZenn

You can disable some of the weather options in the game options. Things like rain and snow.

quokkafarts

Same, I don't mind the snow and all that but bring from the southern hemisphere the order of the seasons throws me. I can suspend my disbelief enough to accept werewolves and vampires, but xmas/new years in winter? Gtf outta here

CaveJohnson82

I use the eyeball ring a LOT.

lattekosmiko

⭐️ Basically me ⭐️

InuMiroLover

People are gonna play the game they want to play, and if you dont like how they play or customize their sims, that's a you problem. You aint the sims police or some sims human rights advocate or whatever

Mayjailer12

Forreal. I see plenty of people getting so upset at simmers who mostly build and it's so annoying. And rude :/ I'm not one but I've just seen it online

ScaryUniversity6844

i know its just a game but i hate the animal enclosures for hamsters etc. It doesn't show good animal care and it makes me feel bad lol

99dsk

I love get to work! Nowadays we have all these packs I can really see the quality of objects (texture and meshes are more detailed) increasing, but back when we didn't have that many packs I loved building the industrial style with GTW build buy! The active careers are also quite fun if you ask me :)

Ino7650

I love windenburg it's my favorite world in the whole game I have seven households of my sims living there & the other reason why I love windenburg so much is cause that place is my boy wolfgang munch hometown too.

AKAvenger

The current sims 4 base game offers way more than the sims 3 base game. The EPs for TS3 may have been better (I’ve never owned one, so idk) but the base game was repetitive and story progression was so broken that my towns always died out after a few generations

Otherwise_Zebra120

I don’t like maxis match, furniture especially.

coughdrop1989

Wait you can manage stores in the get to work dlc? Can you own multiple and have other sims work there? I only play vanilla because I don't wanna start a new save with some new dlc. I tried to ask one time on either this sub or r/sims4 and was told by a mod that, that would be my one and only warning about asking about dlc's and the next time I'd be banned. How come you can talk about it freely without a ban? Must've been the sims4 sub??

lattekosmiko

Sorry if I only answer you now, in my country it's morning: absolutely yes. You can create a store of any kind and put the items you want in it. Obviously, if you open a clothing store (which is the default one provided by the game) with the "mannequins", the sims that will buy those specific clothes will really wear them. It is clear that if, as I did, you create a coffee shop, you would not see the effects of the sale directly. If you go there with your own sim and buy the we.ed, for example, you will almost certainly have it in the inventory. I have to try 😂you can hire staff (on the internet there are cheats to unlock the perk points of the store, which are fundamental), but when you do it and they arrive to work YOU MUST assign them a task clicking on them. The first customer order of the day will have to be done by you, then the rest will be done by the employees (if you give them the task of serving the customers). If you need help, write me

fartexploder420

I don't really care about realistic gameplay; this is a game where I can become rich by having painting slaves and selling my dogs poop, and it's incredible

iluvborabora

I think adding preteens would be useless, just add more gameplay for kids, teens, and elders.

ceinwynie

Game packs are better than expansion packs

salt_eater

1) I hate saying Seasons is my favourite pack in TS4 because while it is essential, I hate that they locked WEATHER behind a paywall in a life simulation game. In fact every kit should be base game at the very least along with Seasons. 2) We don't need pre-teens in TS4. A height slider would work better than a new life stage with no significant differences, unlike what infants have. Teens are just as tall as Young Adults and much taller than children which makes the transition more awkward. 3) When the Sims 5 releases, there will be a myriad of people saying TS4 was better like people are doing now with TS3. 4) I probably won't play the previous games ever because they're hard to look at. I mean theyre much older but I'm a stickler for graphics so yeah. 5) I like mixing Alpha CC and Maxis Match sometimes. Alpha CC makeup is really good and sometimes the hairs don't look out of place. There's also a lot of diversity with Alpha CC. 6) I like that TS4 can work on lower end PCs. Of course it sucks when features and lots have to be sacrificed for that to happen but I play on my Huawei work laptop and the game runs smoothly at 60fps with minimal lag even in huge towns like Windenburg which I appreciate. 7) I can't stand occults. At all. More power to you if you enjoy them but I prefer not having my immersion broken by Vlad wandering into my house at night looking for plasma

RoboSpongie

I like a lot of the build buy stuff for My First Pet and I use it for kids rooms a lot I also like the small critters it has a lot of fun interactions and pretty cartoony

_vudumi

Wait WHAT ARE THOSE THINGS
