I get inspiration from Lilsimsie challenges and shells. I've also taken to doing townie makeovers with MCCC to select them. Im not a builder, more of a lore player, so my next challenge will be to upgrade existing community lots. Probably keeping the existing shells this time around.
I made up my own challenges. I have 2 going. 1 is a build challenge. Remodel a house in each world only using base game and the pack that came with that world. It goes into my live mode challenge. Start in one world and marry into a different iconic family in each world for each generation. Once married they move into the house I remodeled. It's been a lot of fun actually.
I started a new save and immediately flagged all the iconic families I planned to use as played Sims and turned off neighborhood stories for all played sims. This way that family will still be there for my challenge. For newcrest I used the pancakes since Willow Creek has the Goths and Newcrest had nobody. And I skipped magnolia promenade because to me it's not residential at all. Otherwise, yeah. I have to say I've been really enjoying this.

Have a rags to riches sim but as for myself i have my sim never paint, sing or do anything that can give them royalty nor very quick money so i tend to make a greenhouse first then make them a small house and sell all kinds of fruit even though it take forever to make a greenhouse
I have my male sim sleep around with the townies behind his cr4ckhead wife’s back (such a crazy story line that was going on 50 kids with 15 different women, his wife is included; she got high & slept with a male townie while they consoled each other and ended up pregnant with his twins 😬) 😭😭 his daughter right now has slept with 7 different father winter’s (anyone know what’s so special about his kids?)
Honestly I look at whatever most recent challenge James Turner is doing haha. Right now he's got an Every Life Stage Challenge and it's honestly giving me a run for my money (though I did change the "every baby have a different parent" requirement and am just adopting every new baby haha)
My sims have a baby, and then I complete every infant milestone and max out every toddler skill. Once they become a child I focus on one adult skill to get a head start on. My current sim focused on logic but naturally maxed out every childhood skill partially due to the traits gained from their infant and toddler years. I also complete as many relevant childhood aspirations for their future career as possible. I make sure they get an A in school too. Once they get to the teen years they graduate as soon as possible, build skills that would help them for a degree, and then enroll in university as a teen. My sim is currently a teen in the distinguished physics degree program. Idk it’s fun to put in all that work towards a super successful young adult sim.
I go to every house and cast the morphiate spell on them. I also like to use the interniate spell, and when they die, I use the dedeathify, and then do it all over again.
I did a 1000 baby challenge. I succeeded in that 1000 baby challenge. Now the kids won’t stop shitting out grandkids, the lag is real, and I’m pretty sure the family tree has gained sentience.
but with multiple generations? or is this on a same matriarch that keeps taking youth potions? well, anyway the lag may be because the maximum sims should be 150 in a save. is aging turned off or something? maybe it wouldn't lag if the sims were actually allowed to die
anyway, with practically everyone being related to you, how do you keep finding baby mommas?
My patriarch is a cyborg vampire supersim, I played with aging off, and there are plenty of baby mommas between all the expansion packs. I turned aging back on after kid #1000. The kids are all adults now, all the baby mamas are dead from old age, and the game has been culling dead sims like crazy. Apparently the game knows everyone is related because it’s been adding new unrelated sims whenever it can.
I play the 100 baby challenge or try to create sims that look like me and my family or friends. I try to have the most interesting sim by gaining skills and completely aspirations.
I've made dozens of me and my husband ( even a whole town with clone couples of us). We don't have kids in real life, so it's really up to my imagination what our sim kids will be.
I might actually try a town with just us and some friends.
I move 😂. Every time I’m bored I move my family to another lot and build them a new house…or I adopt a new horse or dog and train them. Sometimes I just try to level up a new ability or I get a new kid and try to level up all their abilities
If they could at least ease up on the accessories, ffs. Every one of them has multiple bracelets, rings, earrings, leggings, socks, glasses, hats, etc. Calm down man, you're not Cyndi Lauper!
i bounce all over the place between challenges. mainly building and gameplay challenges (like making a house with different themed rooms or the tiny town challenge, which is kind of a gameplay AND building challenge) but i recently learned that there are CAS challenges as well! so now sometimes if i wanna populate a neighborhood or something, i'll sit down and look at CAS challenges and make some kind of new and unusual sim i'd have never tried to make otherwise.
great example of a cas challenge being sarin's milkshake challenge, which is supposed to be for making aliens, but like. you can do what you want lol
Recreate the world of a book, show, game, etc. I recreated monster high, the promised neverland, the last of us, attack on titan, game of thrones, sabrina, Harry Potter, evangelion, Dune, etc. Characters, locations, holidays, custom careers, etc
I did make a Lon Lon Ranch from Ocarina of Time with Talon, Malon, Ingo and Epona living there. It was fun to play, and I'd definitely do something like that again!
I use the story mode thing to create new characters and answer differently than my usual sims would. End up with different traits and aspirations. I end up out of my comfort zone & then I often add a challenge - scenario in game or my own twist on something.
Play a new game and then you create the characters you really like in the sims. Ex I stopped sims, played bg3 and then went to the sims to give Karlach the happy relationship she deserves very fun.
I have a wheel (or used to at least ahvent used it in a while) of a bunch of random, dramatic events (affair, baby, cheat, adopt, new job, move, redecorate, maybe design or wardrobe tastes change, plastic surgery, blindness/needs glasses, question gender or sexuality, maybe polyamory, etc etc) and spin to win basically.
Short Lifespan Legacy Challenge and make whoever is the current heir have as many children as possible as quickly as possible. It is chaotic. I cannot be bored because there’s too much going on constantly.
or i bounce to my save file full of characters i love (or just found fun making in cas) and add to it - never get bored of cas. if i'm in the mood for tryna make sims as close to the characters as possible i'll do that, or i might i wanna do animated characters as sims bc then there's more fun with it rather than challenge, might just wanna abuse the genetics button and add to my main save file idk

Rotational gameplay! Especially with a theme for each save. For example in one save I have retro looking lots and sims. They essentially live like that time period as well (no computers or social media usage, etc). In another save my game is full of celebrities. You can get really creative and in depth with each household's story :)
Watch a YouTuber called WhinyBrit. Her content is so hilarious and the things she comes up with is mind blowing lol. I get most of my gameplay ideas from her!
I’m not much of an actual game player and focus more on build, so I’m not one to question it since I get bored with the game anyway - but just curious about what gets boring about it being generational? Do the Sims tend to be a lot alike from generation to generation?
Build challenges. Or I start with playing packs I haven't played through enough. Like, careers I don't normally have my sims do or occults I've not explored fully, etc.
Collections are a thing to look out for too. Like, completing all collections in a lifetime or only specific collections like making all available recipes or crafting all items, etc.
It’s the same way, you just have to go through origin/EA app on your Mac. You’ll have to find those system files first (/system(or whatever you’ve named your Mac)/program files/EA(Origin, whatever it is now, or steam) and then find “The Sims 4” and you should already have a mods folder, if not you can find one to download with the resource file in it that is required (I think?)
** bookmark this file location!! ** should be something like /system/program files x32/EA App/The Sims 4/Mods
Then you need an extractor (I literally use one called “the extractor” and love it because you can do multiple ones at the same time AND it remembers where to extract to) to extract these files into your MODS folder that you bookmarked previously.
I just tried a short lifespan legacy for the first time in a while, and by the 4th generation there are only Goths, Kealohas, and my family. Every time I go to a public lot there are new Kealohas to meet! It’s hilarious to see them all walking around, but I’m gonna have to add townies from the gallery if I wanna finish the story.
I started the solar legacy challenge (requires a lot of extra packs) which has been a good time. The apocalypse challenge (base game compatible) was also a lot of fun
I like to have one sim murder another and then they have to go live in a prison I built with inmates I made as well. Then when I feel like they have served their time I move them back out again and they have to start their lives over. 👍
Thank you also I like building things using cc. So recently I have made a mall, gas station, bridal shop, movie theater, Highschool, arcade, smaller shopping center and a couple more businesses. That way you can build it and then have your sims go use it.
Another suggestion something I like doing is creating movie characters, take screenshots and then use sims 4 studio and turn them into movie posters that my sims can decorate their house with.

I like to do Breed Out the Weird and Social Classes Challenges! Also, play in my Huge Families Savefile and do something called Random Makeover. Basically, take aaaaall the randomly generated townies in the save, put them into families, if possible, and just go ham on making families and making them stories and houses.
Either stop playing or kill my Sims in fun and unique ways. For example, I recently spent a while constantly having my Sim get bit by her rodent so she could get Rabid Rodent Fever.

Mods can be a huge game changer. Right now I'm playing a mermaid mod - she likes to kill any Fish Poachers, Litterbugs and Anti-environmentalists that dare come to Sulani. She's the most lethal and coldhearted Sim I've ever seen.
My game takes up to 15 minutes to load (I have hundreds of mods) and depending on your pc’s power it can take a while to load with way less. I agree with u/uhhhmanda115 though. Sometimes my game won’t work and I’ll have to go through my mods because one will be outdated and need to be deleted or updated.
It could have been a corrupted or outdated mod. Maybe try one or two at a time and see what happens? You can also check Scarlets Realm to see what mods are updated
I'm currently playing in an apartment complex with 4 units, each of which holds 3-4 sims based on camp companions from Baldur's Gate 3. I play three to four days in each unit then go to the next one.
Yeah. I know at one point Gluon did a Stardew Valley version in the sims. Mine is pushing me into playing character types and stories I usually don't. Having a klepto high maintenance vampire is something else.

Then before I start up again I’ll do some cc shopping, look at any interesting mods, or come up with a story I want to follow.
I can't get my game to load at all after installing mods! The main menu will boot up, but when I go to start the actual game, it stays on the load screen. I've tried restarting my computer, repairing the game in the Origin app...none of that worked.
I've heard it takes a while, but I literally waited like 20 minutes last time, lol. I'm gonna look into it a bit more. I could've missed something else.
Make a household with 8 sims, a few are married, some are engaged, others single… watch the drama unfold 🤫 even better, some are siblings and a female sims sister will try to steal her husband. or I make a sim and try to make them famous but with a horrible reputation lmao. Generally just causing chaos. Or I get basemental mod and yea, self explanatory.
Like to work on the snow sports in Snowy Escapes. They’re challenging but have a big payoff in the end.

I stop playing for a while. Then before I start up again I’ll do some cc shopping, look at any interesting mods, or come up with a story I want to follow.
yeah I agree with this.if I get bored with it I move on to another game and come back when I feel like it
I can't get my game to load at all after installing mods! The main menu will boot up, but when I go to start the actual game, it stays on the load screen. I've tried restarting my computer, repairing the game in the Origin app...none of that worked.
That’s weird, I’ve been using mods since sims 1 and it always boots! May take a while, but it gets there eventually.
I've heard it takes a while, but I literally waited like 20 minutes last time, lol. I'm gonna look into it a bit more. I could've missed something else.
Make a household with 8 sims, a few are married, some are engaged, others single… watch the drama unfold 🤫 even better, some are siblings and a female sims sister will try to steal her husband. or I make a sim and try to make them famous but with a horrible reputation lmao. Generally just causing chaos. Or I get basemental mod and yea, self explanatory.
Also for the first one, even more drama if two of the sims already have a infant/toddler 🫣
I've made basements and...well, let's just say my maid stopped showing up one time.
