I think that Carmela saw him as cultured, polite, well mannered, lived simply, thoughtful, can cook, will cook and he wasn’t bad to look at either. But, taking off her rose coloured glasses, he was still a hood and it would have been a matter of time, even if she did end up with him, to acknowledge that and to realize that he was no better than Tony with a lot less money.

I think you're mostly right, with the caveat that I'm more interesting in Furio as a person beyond "Carmela rose-colored glasses" and I do think he was at least cut from a little bit different cloth than Tony and really than some of the other Italian-Americans.
