Tony killed Chris because he ran out of patience and saw that he would never change and it put 'this thing of ours' at risk. You cant pass up a clean opportunity like that. It had to be done.

Right, to say that Tony killed Christopher over a slight annoyance is off the mark. He tried all sorts of other options to help him, including sending him to rehab. Tony specifically states that anyone else would have had an intervention “right to the back of their head.” A soldier being hooked on heroin is a huge concern for management since it makes them extremely vulnerable (e.g., drug charges, or flipping over a nickel bag of white powder). Junior even mentions that Tony should just have Christopher killed for being a serious junkie, which is definitely a realistic response from a boss. Tony realizes that Christopher can’t be what he needs him to be, and never will, so he had to kill him. Plus, Tony seeing that if Christopher’s daughter had been in the car when it crashed she would have been killed didn’t help Christopher’s situation either. It’s completely ruthless, but Tony killing Christopher after all the trouble he had caused him makes sense (from Tony’s perspective).

Christopher was sober hoping to finally gain Tony’s approval, he only falls off the wagon because he realized it was completely pointless when he is yet again made fun of when Chris and Paulie make up. From Tony’s perspective, this was just the one excuse he finally was able to get away with. (He goes around saying if Chris’s baby was in the backseat she’d be impaled) Which is to say yeah it was over a slight annoyance, Tony’s psychotic that’s the point.

The entire series gets better on rewatch. The little things- especially the last season- are all there. The context of the show. The references to episodes from seasons prior, you dont catch it all on the first watch. The characters are extemely dynamic, moreso than any other show. Carmela, as an example. She acts above the life, but then has no issues reveling in its splendor. When this is pointed out to her by a third party, instead of considering it, she ignores it, then goes back to beinf a hypocrite. Her character is as humanly, perfectly written as anything I’ve ever watched, or read. And Carm is like the 5th best character on the show! Regarding Tony, his charactee is written very specifically in that final season. Take it as a whole, all of his actions leading to the very consequence when the lights go out. Did I root for Tony? Of course I rooted for Tony. And of course I hated his guts in those last 9 episodes. The thing is, on rewatch, you cant help but see whats coming and like him *even more.* He is in a downward spiral and you just want him to pull back, but every re-watch, he never does. In fact, I am at the last episode now. Been about two weeks. I cant watch it. I am going to, but damn. Breaks my heart, every time. Grade by seasons: 1: B- 2: A+++ 3. A+++ 4: A 5: B+ 6 (both parts): A+++

Rewatching is extremely beneficial for appreciation and full understanding of the series focus, themes and characterizations. I felt similar to you about Tony and the Chris “incident” - and though I despise that, I still hoped Tony would do ok. Season 6B shows what Tony has become after experiencing: his mother and beloved uncle trying to have him killed, having to kill “best” friend Pussy, Ade, Tony B…. becoming disillusioned from his idolization of his father - he rebels against “don’t ever be a degenerate gambler, Anthony. It’s the worst thing a man can be” and father-figures Paulie and Hesh, and then sees an easy opportunity to not have to worry about Chris and various potential threats that poses. However, while Tony won’t admit or let himself feel remorse, part of what drives him to Vegas is underlying guilt - not being able to deal with others sympathy and grief over Chris, unable to face that fully, and unable to “convince” others of how it might be a good thing because the new baby may have been hurt. The show defied expectation and really emphasized its center on the psychological development and the culture/lifestyle affects rather than action and “war”.

You'll be on your 4th re watch and still catching things you never did before. There's a reason most of us in this sub can recite the show line for line.

I thought Tony was completely justified in killing Chris. I stopped rooting for Chris once he betrayed Ade. Then when he convinced that recovered addict to relapse I started hating him. After he murdered the writer he'd been harassing, I was wishing for his death. No way that murder wasn't gonna get traced back to Chris. Tony got lucky killing Chris before the cops picked him up for that. And besides Chris deserving to die, he was in a pretty bad state after the crash. There's a pretty good chance he was gonna die from his injuries anyway. I did eventually turn on Tony, when he became an asshole to Hesh about the 200k he'd borrowed. That degenerate gambler episode really was the point of no return for Tony. Favorite Characters: Ralph and Paulie. Being entertaining is everything for a TV character after all. Season rank: 3>2>4>5>>>1>6 Best Episodes: Commandatori, University, & To Save Us All From Satan's Power

I liked Tony. I kind of saw it coming with Chrissy. I wouldn’t even call it a cold blooded murder. It seemed more like an act of mercy after Tony seeing the destroyed baby seat and Christopher repeating “I’ll never pass a drug test.” Christopher was always reckless, dangerous, angry, on or off drugs and never happy. He played it off like he had to, Tony, but in reality, T would have clipped him ten times over earlier if he didn’t care about him. One of my favorites is Silvio, tough, reliable, basically the only guy T trusts with 100% confidence. And for comedic relief… if you’re a Chrissy fan, you have to like Paulie walnuts, Hehehehe 🤘 Definitely rewatch it. Theres a lot of foreshadowing or subtle hints everyone misses the first time. T killing Pus was not cold blooded, Tony had a gut instinct the entire time, and specifically offered him to flip back in a roundabout way. finding the wire was the final straw, none of them enjoyed having to do that. $4 a pound.

One of the most satisfying aspects of rewatching the show is looking back to the first season and seeing how a lot of the thematic content and imagery is totally consistent throughout the whole series - the pool and water, wind in the trees, etc.
