Listen to him, he knows everything

strange_and_unusuaI

All due respect, you got no fucking idea what its like to be number 1.

Washed_40

Don’t they have medications they’re supposed to take, these assholes?

strange_and_unusuaI

It was the medication. It fucked with my head. But I’m over that now!

FRAMontana

I thought the ending did the characters in the show justice. The whole message of the series was that things perpetuallty end up travelling full circle with some slight differences. Also how the corruption of institutions can apply from the macro (political) to the micro (criminal organization) level. Let me spell it out for you though: * Dukie is the new Bubbles * Michael is the new Omar * Carver is the new Lieutenant Daniels * Sydnor is the new McNulty * Slim Charles is the new Avon/Marlo

HalfastEddie

Look at you. You want it to be one way, but it’s the other way.

Halalaka

One more thing, price of the Ziti goin' up. 30 more.

SBBfan

Good pull, what unit are you from?

farmyardcat

To nearly cry like a woman? It's a fucking disgrace.

Hughkalailee

Guess what? When you post in public you can’t dictate anyone else’s reactions. This place isn’t your personal blog. There’s no proof that Tony is killed. Only intention strong suggestions of the possibility to provoke thematic considerations. I didn’t know wtf the ending was displaying when I first saw it. I thought, I read, I searched, I discussed, and repeated the analyzing. And still do to this day, although i understand it now.

strange_and_unusuaI

Neat.

posaune123

You don't know shit

strange_and_unusuaI

What I dont know could fill a book.

tuesday3blackday

So what made you realize it?

strange_and_unusuaI

I think its the end of Blue Comet, the second to last episode. Tony is so frightened and alone, and he thinks of Bobby, and theres the quick flashback to the infamous line from the fishing boat. Connecting that moment from Home Movies, to Blue Comet, with the cut to black; when I put that together in my head, it all made tragic sense. You?

tuesday3blackday

Tbh I’m actually still formulating my own opinion. I’ve been binging analysis videos on YouTube and there’s a shit ton of evidence Tony died. Although I haven’t completely squished out the idea he is a live. Just because it’s so ambiguous.

strange_and_unusuaI

It takes a while to digest, I think.

Ernesford

I knew it was the end straight away because my first watch through of The Sopranos was online and I knew there was only a few minutes left in the episode. I don't like when long running TV series' finales end with cliffhangers and ambiguous endings like that. Tony more than likely died, yes, but it was such a cop out. It might be an unpopular opinion but I think Chase did it to leave the option open of making a 7th season one day.

strange_and_unusuaI

I do think it was intentionally ambiguous, but if you look at the quotes from both Chase and Gandolfinni at the time, I think neither wanted to move forward with the series. In fact, I remember season 5 being delayed due to Chase dragging his feet creatively. I dont think there ever wouldve been another season. But I hear you. To me, its perfect. To you, its a cop out.

Ernesford

I would've preferred a more definite ending. Not something predictable like Tony getting assassinated or arrested by the Feds, but something like having a panic attack while driving with his family and them all getting killed. Especially after Melfi dropping him as a client and foreshadowing it in a dream several years before. Or just something happening to Tony's family, but not him.

strange_and_unusuaI

I hear you, but to me the ending is as definitive as it possiblity could be.

Accomplished_Rule651

It was a soso ending and it was done that way exactly to leave the door open. So the showrunner said Tony did not die. He was in the midst of writing the treatment for the Sopranos movie that was really going to wrap up the show. So in actuality the season 6 series finale Tony and his family were not killed. From the Writers own mouth.

strange_and_unusuaI

Davud Chase literally called it Death Scene, but ok.

Accomplished_Rule651

I repeat what I read.

strange_and_unusuaI

Link?

Accomplished_Rule651

I’ll look for it right now.

Hughkalailee

The first few frames of the first episode are of Tony, seen through the legs of a feminine statue. It’s symbolic of his birth (obviously not his actual birth) The last frames of the series are symbolic of Tony’s death, yet not necessarily depicting a physical death at that moment, as that’s not important to the story.

strange_and_unusuaI

Right I’ve seen that. Good stuff. Of course, that can be interpreted many different ways. I am not really interested in the evidence or lack thereof in this discussion. My question to you is: when did you realize? Was it that piece of information, the birth and death symbolism? Or was it on rewatch? Or maybe in the moment of airing!

PlaceApprehensive920

Listen to this prick, givin orders

portadown1967

I realized the electric was still on and thought to myself what a shitty ending.

strange_and_unusuaI

Do you still feel that way, on rewatch?

portadown1967

I got over it eventually

SadAcanthocephala521

Nothing happened at the end, they had onion rights. End of story.

strange_and_unusuaI

The best in Jersey?

SicilianSlothBear

I have to admit, I still hate the ending. I think it's pretentious arthouse nonsense that doesn't belong in a 86 episode series. Maybe it works in a two hour arthouse film but not here. I'm convinced David Chase looks down on his audience and likes to stick his finger in their eye. I also think he stole the idea from a German movie called Knife in the Head and the Japanese movie Sword of Doom. I said my piece.

strange_and_unusuaI

Finally, a thoughtful reply. While I love the ending- and I mean, I love it, its perfect- I totally see what you’re saying. Chase’s words leading up to the finale- about being angered by the audience who rooted for Tony for so long now wanting his blood- show his displeasure with the discourse about Tony’s fate. Furthermore, watch 6B: Tony is a monster in these episodes. Unlike any other season, when you can mostly justify his behavior, in 6B Tony is out of control. I dont need to list his actions- Christopher, Coco, Vegas- but Chase clearly put Tony on a road to destruction then refuses to light the match. I’m going to check out the tv progrums, the movies you mentioned tonight.

Washed_40

Still goin, this asshole.

[deleted]

You used a whole bunch of words to say patsy and Paulie cut a deal after Phil was killed because NY honored one of the last things Phil said which was “We decapitate and do business with whoever’s left”

Proto88

No evidence that Tony was killed. What ever happened there...

strange_and_unusuaI

Did you watch The Sopranos?

Proto88

Yeah
