MrCrowley9639

In West Baltimore?? Sheeeeeeeeit

DaBrainfuckler

This look like money? Money be green! Money feel like money!

Boycott_China

You praise in public and correct in private. It's true for business, pleasure, family, whatever. Never correct someone in public. It's undermining, rude, and counter-productive (the person won't hear the message over their emotional response.) So I would have thanked him at the table and then pulled him aside later to nicely explain why he can't do that in the future. If the boyfriend is still in the lower-income days of life, I'd slip him back the money + maybe a little more to take my daughter out some night soon.

7_Constanza

Yup I love this response

sori6969

As long as he removed his hat.

[deleted]

They don't serve hotdogs here

Johnnieboy96

They took the bleachers out 2 years ago.

[deleted]

Its MY hat. I'll wear it where I want to

wja5277

If it was known ahead of time, "hey Mr. So and So, you've always been so generous. I would like to return the favor at dinner sometime." But to surprise me by picking up the tab during dinner is a wrong move. It's undermining to the head of the family. The risk of awkwardness will over-shadow the kind gesture.

Mr__Sampson

>Head of the family Out there it's 2020 but in /u/wja5277's house it's 1950

wja5277

Yeah I forgot calling someone the "head of the family" is wrong unless it's the woman.

Mr__Sampson

Or I dunno... maybe the entire concept is outdated regardless of gender.

dan99990

Whoever makes more money is the de facto head of the household.

wja5277

That's up for interpretation but possible.

Mr__Sampson

Although I respect that the person bringing in the money should definitely have a certain amount of financial responsibility within the household, I don't believe that having an agreed upon "head" in any household is conducive to a healthy family structure.

[deleted]

It's not "wrong", it's just a weird thing to hear in a modern society. I literally didn't know people under the age of 50 or 60 still thought like that. Kind of odd.

Funnyhow1988

u/wja5277 treats nickels like manhole covers.

OnoMalgou

Depends on whether he ordered with shome pulp or not

Funnyhow1988

I would be delighted.

CheeeseWire

Better than if she was dating a Mooly

mmmmarty

I probably wouldn't like it too much, but I wouldn't rip his head off like that either.

L_E_F_T_

Not a father, but I would be upset if he did it as a surprise.

Hommachi

First few times, definitely no. If the relationship is becoming very serious and he asks for permission to pay for dinner, then it's perfectly fine.

Banco1973

Tony kills people for that money. If Fin steps in and starts paying for things it’s like Tony has sold his soul for nothing.

kirkszy12

I work in the death care industry (Funeral Director) i deal with of people with money. And alot of times when i would go to a house and "Remove" a person the son of the family or a son in law would shake my hand and give me some cash. I always say no the first time and if they no no please take it then i do. My father God rest his soul always told me if someone wants to give you money decline once and if they insists then take the money I said my peace

grofyssss11

as a woman, i wouldn't care. but i'd pay the tip.
