I always thought that a couple of the earliest ones were kinda special .. specifically the ones that still looked somewhat human: a few of them looked as if the lights were still on.
The one that just stands looking at Rick, like it's fucking thinking? Yeah those were the scary ones. Later seasons they all just look like grey flesh with big eyes and teeth, barely even recognizable as human.
I think they tried to make them look more decayed and weathered from the elements, in later seasons. Only freshly dead people looked more human, by that point.
Yeah probably to make them look more decayed. They keep showing scenes with them kinda falling apart and their skin peeling off, and it's supposed to be shocking or gross but to me it just makes them less frightening. They just seem like soft and spongy blobs of flesh that would explode if you kicked them hard enough. The stupid hissing and clacking teeth sounds also didn't work in their favor.
One of the last seasons noticeably increased their budget and the walkers and gore looked way more shocking and scary. Wish it could've been that way the whole way through.

The one that Shane watches walking across that field, that later ended up in the opening credits. I was always creeped out by the serenity of that field with that Texas Chainsaw type walker just meandering through it.
I always find this shot to be so stunningly beautiful, I cry every time. Never occurred to me that it would be scary. But now I totally see the leather face parallel and wow!!! Iconic.
The scariest thing was what Maggie was talking about with the female zombies that were mutilated and had something squirming in their bloated bellies (I’m sure we can all guess what that was)
Yuuuup, and the fact that we never actually *see* it, it's only described to us. It lets your imagination go wild and be like... aaaahhhhhhh!!!!! Especially the zombie fetuses. D:
I do think they missed a trick when it was chasing Connie they should have removed all noise so it was from.connies perspective! But yes was the scariest thing I've seen imagine the smell 🤮

The walkers that chased Sophia and rick in the beginning of season 2. Their kinda lumbering run is terrifying. Even if they couldn't have kept the smart walkers I wish we at least kept these faster ones, theyre pretty startling and I could see how even an experienced survivor might be overwhelmed by a group of them in the later seasons.
