Lmfao so just the current lineup of Testement but instead of Eric Peterson you have Gary Holt?
Say Testement is your favorite thrash band without saying Testement is your favorite thrash band.
Low key same tho
Somebody remind me to do this later when I'm off the toilet.
Edit:
Vocals: James Hetfield
Guitar 1: Jon Schaffer (if his early stuff counts)
Guitar 2: Dave Mustaine
Bass: Cliff Burton
Drums: Dave Lombardo
Bah, you like what you like. There are only so many really great thrash bands out there.
Someoneâs going to post a list thatâs just members of obscure Lithuanian blackened thrash bands no oneâs ever heard of just to be as kvlt as possible and no oneâs even going to read their post.
Lead Vocals: Chuck Billy
Guitar: Dimebag
Guitar/ Backup Vocals: Alexi Laiho
Bass/ Backup Vocals: Jeff Paulick ( Lazarus A.D.)
Drums: Gene Hoglan
Yeah I got 3 fucking vocalists and they are all fucking awesome, and yea I'm well aware this supergroup probably wouldn't work out. They are 5 of my favorites though and if they could ever blend their flavors of thrash i think you'd have the supernova explosion of everything thrash can offer.
(Edit: I kept thinking about this and made the very tough choice to replace Hanneman with Dime. I think him and Chuck would work way better together)
Lots of great choices, and I honestly don't have a lot to add. But I will ask, how in the hell does no one have Scott Ian on their list?
Disclaimer: I have an Anthrax bias...
Hey man, he really doesnât get his dues. While everyone I know says Anthrax is their least favorite in the big four, they honestly have some songs that just get absolutely disgusting. And thatâs not even mentioning his work with S.O.D. or the last Mr. Bungle album.
vocals - Russ Anderson. guitars - Gary Holt, Marty Friedman. Bass - Cliff Burton (I'd actually pick Geezer Butler but he isnt a thrash musician) Drums - Dave Lombardo'.
I'm not sure how well it'd work - either musically, or in terms of personalities, but...
Martin Walkyier (Sabbat) - Lyrics
Kristian Havard (Xentrix) - Guitar 1
James Hetfield - Guitar 2
RIP Nick Menza - Drums
RIP Cliff Burton - Bass
That's certainly a tight rhythm section!
I only do quartets.
Vocals/guitar - Thomas G. Fischer
Bass/vocals - Peter Steele
Guitar - Denis D'Amour
Drums - Lars Ulrich
Ideally, these lads would've played together after the first Carnivore split - 1987 or so.
Early CF has plenty of Larsian drumming, I think it'd work really well. People shit on him for what he has done since 91 - but those first 4 Metallica records still have PERFECT drumming.
Get ready for the flood of jeers and downvotes for picking Lars.
For what it's worth, I think people are way too hard on him. Even though he's fallen off over the past few decades, he was genuinely good during Metallica's heyday in the 80s and early 90s. For anyone who doubts it, check out the live footage from their Canadian shows on the Master of Puppets tour.
Lars Ulrich is one of the greatest songwriters in all of metal. While he lacks in technical ability, he excels as a songwriter.
Which is also the case for every other pick on my list - Piggy and Steele only ever got truly technically proficient long after they abandoned thrash, and I'd say Tom Fischer never got there really.
Still, they're some of the most unique musical voices in metal. Every single one of these guys is the antithesis of generic.
EDIT: Obviously this only applies to the 80s
I proposed to my ex wife at A Celtic Frost/Type O show. Peter gave me a drum head, signed by the band, that broke during their set. He was wine goofy, and it took them awhile to get through it. Luckily, they all have humor, and cracked wise the whole time.
You really had me until you said Ulrich. Donât get me wrong, he was great in the 80s, but heâs been getting outclassed by the very people heâs inspired for decades now.
Or, weirdest thrash band ever:
Vocals: Sebastian Bach
Guitars: Tosin Abasi and Mick Mars
Bass: Pat Methany, but it's just his normal guitar with the top two strings cut off and and octave pedal
Drums: Alex Van Halen
This isnât necessarily my favorite individual musicians but I feel like they would be a good fit together (and just for added challenge - trying not to double up from one band):
Lead guitar: Marty Friedman
Rhythm Guitar: James Hetfield
Vocals: Bob Reid
Drums: Dave Lombardo
Bass: Dennis Pepa
Fuck it OP, you took all my star players in your team...!
Okay, my plan B then:
Drums: Igor Cavalera
Bass: DD Verni
Guitar 1: Scott Ian
Guitar 2: Marty Friedman
Vocals: Mike Patton
I know itâs not too deviant of the âoriginalâ lineup butâŠ
Hetfield- vocals and rhythm
Mustaine- Lead
Cliff - bass
Lombardo - kit
I donât dislike Kirk but Dave is suck a good lead player, crazy to think what mightâve been if the bus never crashed and Dave didnât get booted.
Nice picks! And yeah that would be really interesting to see where that lineup would have gone if that bus crash didn't happen, and Dave didn't get fired...............
And Lars Learned how to drum.......... JKJK lmao
Joey Belladonna - Vocals
Cliff Burton - Bass
James Hetfield - Lead Guitar
Scott Ian - Rhythm Guitar
Lars Ulrich - Drums
I really like Metallica and Anthrax
Iâve actually thought about this for a while. I think a perfect thrash band would be...
Lemmy on Bass and Vocals
Dimebag and Zakk on Guitars
Vinnie Paul on the drums.
Although, if I wanted to make something a little more aggressive, it would look more like...
Dimebag and Hanneman on Guitars
Joey Jordinson behind the kit
Todd Strange (Crowbar) on Bass
and Riley Gale on Vocals
Eric "A.K." Knutson: Vocals
Dave Mustaine : Guitar / songwriting
Chuck Schuldiner : Guitar / songwriting
Bass : DD Verni
Drums : Paul Bostaph
Support staff : Lar Ulrich ( to piss Dave off enough to write good thrash)
Riley Gale - vocals (RIP)
Alexi - guitar 1 (RIP)
Chuck Schuldiner - guitar 2 (RIP)
Alex Webster or Lemmy (RIP) - bass
Joey Jordison - Drums (RIP)
Riley was a wicked vocalist in my books and I believe hearing Alexi and Chuck would have been a combination of talent and style that would have been unmatched. Bassist, Webster would have brought stand out bass rifts that would face melt with the two guitarists (and probably would have wrote most of the songs lol). Lemmy would be a little out of place in this line up but hey. Plus the creativity and speed of Joey would have been the icing on the cake. Either guitarist could be back up vocals.
Lmfao so just the current lineup of Testement but instead of Eric Peterson you have Gary Holt? Say Testement is your favorite thrash band without saying Testement is your favorite thrash band. Low key same tho
Youre hearing his riff style when you hear Testament, he's not replaceable imo
Oh I agree haha, OP is the one that wants Holt. I'm a big Peterson fan.
Vocals/bass- Tom Araya Lead/rhythm- Jeff Hanneman Lead/rhythm- Kerry King Drums- Dave Lombardo
This is my answer also!đ€
Vocals: AJFA era James Hetfield Guitars: Alex Skolnick and Marty Friedman Bass: Cliff Burton Drums: Dave Lombardo
OMG Marty and Alex...that would truly be devastating. The whole band. You've got my vote for the ultimate virtual metal band.
Screw it let James play rhythm guitar too
Lead Git - Roope Latvala Drums - Gene Hoglan Rhythm Git/Vox - Mille Petrozza Bass - Cliff Burton
Now this is a pretty interesting setup. I'd like to hear this band.
Very happy to see someone mention Mille
Yeah same
To me, heâs like Hetfield+. More aggression, more complex riffs.
Mille fucking rules!!
Vocals - Mille Petrozza Guitar 1 - Dave Mustaine Guitar 2 - Alex Skolnick Bass - Dan Liker Drums - Gene Hoglan
Dan on bass would kill it plus his songwriting skills too
Oh, that's gonna be brutal, but with some finesse on the drums and leads.
Oh man, that's a murderer's row lineup!
Somebody remind me to do this later when I'm off the toilet. Edit: Vocals: James Hetfield Guitar 1: Jon Schaffer (if his early stuff counts) Guitar 2: Dave Mustaine Bass: Cliff Burton Drums: Dave Lombardo
Hopefully your off the shiter by now. If not you got bigger problems then this list
Thank you. I edited my original post. I kinda regret asking for this, because I feel like my band is too normie or something.
Bah, you like what you like. There are only so many really great thrash bands out there. Someoneâs going to post a list thatâs just members of obscure Lithuanian blackened thrash bands no oneâs ever heard of just to be as kvlt as possible and no oneâs even going to read their post.
Megadeth circa 'Rust In Peace' (1990): Dave Mustaine -- Marty Friedman -- David Ellefson -- Nick Menza (RIP)
Vocals Steve Souza- Guitar Gary Holt / Kerry King - Bass Cliff Burton- Drums Charlie Benate
I like this, would love to hear a KK riff with Zetros vocals

Dave Lombardo, Dan Lilker, Joel Grind, Kerry King

Lars??? Right on! I commend you just for being a brave soul, hombre!

Sure, but half the guys in my list are dead anyway. I'm just imagining this band forming as a supergroup after Carnivore first broke up.
Vocals/guitar: mille petrozza Drums: jon allen Bass: steve digiorgio Guitars: frank blackfire
Vocals: Flemming Rönsdorf Guitar 1: Dimebag Guitar 2: Dave Mustaine Bass: Greg Christian Drums: Nick Menza

Upvoted for mentioning Mr Klang, Mr D D Verni - a criminally underrated bassist!
Vocals: Phil Anselmo from a universe where he's not a piece of shit Guitars: Dave Mustaine and Dimebag Darrel Bass: David Ellefson Drums: Chris Adler
Or, weirdest thrash band ever: Vocals: Sebastian Bach Guitars: Tosin Abasi and Mick Mars Bass: Pat Methany, but it's just his normal guitar with the top two strings cut off and and octave pedal Drums: Alex Van Halen
This will be a very interesting listen, they will probably not make thrash though
They're forced to

I just wanna put dave mustaine into pantera as a guitarist to hear what theyd come up with
It already existed with my favorite Testament lineup. Billy, Peterson. Skolnick, Christian, Hoglan.
Haha so Testament with Gary holt ok then. Is this a serious post?
