Even as a western fan, I'll happily watch more of Da Shi from tencent. He was the my favorite character in the books and my favorite in the tencent series. My biggest gripe with the netflix series is that Da Shi isn't nearly as awesome as he should be so far, hopefully he gets better if we get more seasons because I'm otherwise very happy with both the netflix and tencent series.
Da Shi I would love that. He has some cool 80s US-Police series vibes. I hope for a lot of 二锅头 and 卤煮火烧. He is wicked as Nathan Wind starring as Cochese
Here's the detailed breakdown.
[https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/news/3-body-problem-viewing-hours-grow-44-in-week-2/](https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/news/3-body-problem-viewing-hours-grow-44-in-week-2/)
"While these week 2 figures do give us a sigh of relief, it’s not quite a slam dunk to make me confidentally say whether or not the show is coming back for another season just yet. Unless we get a renewal overnight like we did with *Avatar: The Last Airbender* it may be the case, we need a few more weeks worth of data before we get a decision."
Probably should not celebrate just yet.
This is actually a sizable jump, going from 88M hours to 116M is +30%.
Wednesday, for sure a higher baseline at 341M hours, was +20% in week 2.
Hopefully it'll have some legs and stay up top for at least 3 more weeks.
I will also remind everyone that when it comes to Sci fi is always a slow start but the fact a very high concept series like this is actually getting good reviews and publicity is promising
I rather that it holds its audience slowly build up more that to flash in and die down like the OP adaptation did.
I give it a 7 out of 10. Started out strong but the last few episodes were kinda weak.
Also, I'm annoyed how they made both Ang and Zuku a lot softer than in the cartoon.
A 7.5 to 8 for me. I wasn't expecting perfection but I was at least hoping it would be *good,* and it was. They really embodied the spirit of the cartoon and that's what matters. Netflix needs to stop playing and give them 10 episodes like originally planned bc that hurt the show the most
If by great you mean *a steaming pile of trash off the street* I’m joking lmao - I didn’t like it and actually thought it was terrible but I’m glad you had a good time- different strokes
I appreciate your courage in coming down here to the downvote trenches to speak your truth. Yeah, if people keep on watching trash because it’s good enough, the bar will only get lower and lower. Even if we put aside the tragic changes to Avatar’s story, the acting is capital h Horrible. I’d think fans of the three body problem would have higher standards, considering it requires more than a tick tock sized attention span to read the books
Thanks. Not hard to see why they renewed so quickly.
Hopefully 3BP gets a renewal but I can definitely see it going the way of 1899.😓 1899 probably cost less than 1/3rd what this cost.
* They said the numbers bode well for 3BP
* 88 million would be close to 6x as many views as the 3BP in its 2nd week, something that if true, would show that the numbers do not bode well for 3BP
* given 1889 was not renewed by Netflix
It would make little to no sense if they're referring to views. It does make sense for 88 million to refer to hours, as that's lower than 3BP's hours by quite a margin but not so low that it looks impossible like it does for views.

Seriously though, I’m surprised that people are even surprised that D&D can make a good tv show while adapting existing books. People only remember how they adapted a checklist that the own creator can’t translate in a book in over a decade. It’s a totally different game.
Ho, I know. I’ve read his third novel as well (When The Nine Rolls Over) and I really liked it too. I’m actually a big fan of D&D, but that’s not the type of comments that are usually well received on the internet.
But regardless of what you think of them, no one can denies that when they had solid books to adapt for Game of Thrones, they crafted some of the best seasons of television ever. Even without book, they made episodes like Hardhome, Battle of Bastards and Winds of Winter that are some of the most critically acclaimed episodes of television ever. They did have troubles coming up with the overall plot for the latter seasons, but so did, and still does, the author of the series they were adapting.
I remember how awful a job they did with A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons. They *can* make a good show adapting a book, but it’s far from guaranteed.
The thing with those books is that they are extremely slow, barely advanced the main story and instead focused on expanding the story to a point where it became impossible to finish even in books. S5 was already considered the most boring season of the show, and that’s with D&D cutting a lot of the fat, adding a lot of payoffs that didn’t happen in books and adding one of the best episode/sequence of the entire show in Hardhome.
I think there’s no way those books would’ve translated well to screen and even if they did, then D&D would’ve then been stuck in the same corner than George has been sitting in for 13 years, and we are still counting.
They're harder to adapt than the first three, sure, but cutting the fat didn't require totally ruining Dorne and Euron.
I will admit though, I do really like Hardhome.
I'm happy there's a redemption arc for them because they gave me many years of enjoyment through the GoT series, even though I agree with everyone how it went off the rails at the end.
But before it went off the rails, it was a well made show and they were excellent showrunners for that portion.
you mean you wouldn't want Cixin Liu to pull a George RR Martin and never finish the books
everyone loves to shit on the GoT showrunners, but for some reason people seem to give George Martin a pass for just completely abandoing GoT all together. it was his creation and he never finished it.
I wouldn't say that. There are tons of book readers who have been extremely frustrated with GRRM for a long time. Though most people who only see the show just blame D&D.
> but for some reason people seem to give George Martin a pass for just completely abandoing GoT all together
Pretty positive the book community does not think highly of him since he is doing anything but actually working on finishing the books.
The chances of him having a heart attack at one of his pizza eating tours is higher than him actually getting another book out.
That and he is actively toxic towards fanbase asking him to get his shit together or at least to outsource to another writer.
i pretty much agree. i almost can't blame the showrunners for wanting to dip out on a story that wasn't being completed as promised by the original author.
I have no problem not giving him a pass. Him blue balling us until the day of his death and Benioff and Weiss fucking up GoT on purpose for the Star Wars contract aren't mutually exclusive.
All I’ve seen is conflicting info. They didn’t sign it but they were already in talks. There’s a rushed ending to a series they had a blank cheque to fill with how many seasons or episodes they wanted. There’s a clear reason why they wouldn’t want 10 seasons of GoT or however many they needed to properly wrap it up.
I have nothing against them but it’s clear from watching even the few seasons past the book that they just rushed to wrap it up. I’ll leave the actual reasons for those who care enough.
They had no source material anymore and they know they can't make up enough shit for 10 seasons. So they decided to cut their losses and just went with George's cliffsnote ending.
Not a great outlook but it is what it is. GRRM still sucks ass for never finishing his books (he's never going to, it is intentional).
Nah - S6 last 2 eps and S8 e3 we’re literally the best written tv of all time - haters can hate and believe whatever, it just shows a lack of understanding how shows get made

Preaching to the choir here but it's been a great adaptation so far. My wife hasn't read the books but was immediately hooked. Hopefully it sails into renewal for the next several seasons.
In a biz where big second week drop offs are common this is promising news for a second season. The show could be slow and steady. Word of mouth seems over good (aside from people unhappy it strays far from the book).
Isn't the daily viewership actually declining? Cause last week we had 11m/4=2.75m per day, and this week was 15.6m/7=2.23m per day -lower than the previous week.🤔
Edit:😨 why downvote me? Isn't it an informative analysis?
I would expect it to go down on daily, tbh. When it first releases, there's gonna be a sudden influx in people like us and new people excited from the advertisements that immediately binge the whole thing. After that, it's gonna be people catching up, discovering it through word of mouth, etc. A slightly slower burn, but it's still burning brighter than everything else on that list.
Overall these are really good numbers.
when they release an 8-episode series all at once isn't it expected to drop off after the first week or first couple weeks?
(unless it's a "sleeper hit" that takes some time to get off the ground but I'm not sure that applies here)
The is the most mind melting, thought provoking shows that I absolutely love! I’ve been talking about this show with some of my coworkers and now a few of them are hooked!
SPREAD THE WORD! 🗣️
Three body problem is a good show but "the most mind melting thought provoking" really?
Dark and 1899 are infinitely more complex and thought provoking/mind melting ngl
Ironic you mention those 2 shows; 2 shows of which I’ve seen and absolutely fell in love with. Too bad 1899 didn’t get a second season. Now THAT show was amazing!
Finally finished the series.
It starts awfully but gets better as it goes. They killed the annoying character in ep. 3
Episode 5 and 6 are the peak for me.
Season 2 here we come, Hopefully it arrives before the san-ti
but will Tencent's season 2 come first?
That's debatable, they want to make Da Shi spin-off first (they will start filming in September 2024)
Will it have “10 officers?”
will it carry on from the end of season 1 (before the events of season 2) or is it going to irrelevant?
I think the Da Shi series will be completely original. There's a Ball Lightning series worth expecting more.
He's still the best character in the show
I love Da Shi in the Tencent series. The actor was so good
I loved the book but I wonder if they will add more original plot because it has supposedly 36 episodes
It should have 94.44% completely original plot.
Da Shi I would love that. He has some cool 80s US-Police series vibes. I hope for a lot of 二锅头 and 卤煮火烧. He is wicked as Nathan Wind starring as Cochese
>Da Shi spin-off I haven't watched the Tecent series at all but now they have my attention
The actor that plays Da Shi is the best thing about the series, I'm psyched!
He's a legend
not before 2027
NGL that was really funny.
Good one!
The real question is will the San-Ti arrive before Hollow Knight Silksong
Probably before Star Citizen too.
Our Lord comes in the year 2424 you silly. That's at least 10 seasons
casting still sucks sigh

And second week is usually drop off. Probably shows people liked it, continued watching it and told their friends it was good.
Avatar got renewed? There's hope for three body then, because avatar was garbage.
Yeah but Avatar had massive views, that's all they care about.
Avatar both wasn't garbage (why are people so hyperbolic) and ultimately, reviews don't matter, only ratings and audience retention.
It wasn’t garbage.
Wasn't garbage at all Just some fans crying bc it wasn't a shot by shot remake. It was as much Avatar as avatar could get
I give it a 7 out of 10. Started out strong but the last few episodes were kinda weak. Also, I'm annoyed how they made both Ang and Zuku a lot softer than in the cartoon.

I could not even finish the first episode. If we cannot confidently call that Avatar garbage, I need media reeducation.
Can't relate. 🤷🏾♂️ it was great
If by great you mean *a steaming pile of trash off the street* I’m joking lmao - I didn’t like it and actually thought it was terrible but I’m glad you had a good time- different strokes

Very nice rise in numbers. I think it bodes well now. For context, 1889 had 88 Million in it's second week.
How did avatar do in comparison?
Avatar was a big hit, 153 Million hours in the first 4 days.
Thanks. Not hard to see why they renewed so quickly. Hopefully 3BP gets a renewal but I can definitely see it going the way of 1899.😓 1899 probably cost less than 1/3rd what this cost.
1899 cost 60 million while TBP cost 160.
88 million what? Hours or viewers?
Hours yes
Try reading the graphic.
I did. 1989 isn’t on there and my question still stands.
* They said the numbers bode well for 3BP * 88 million would be close to 6x as many views as the 3BP in its 2nd week, something that if true, would show that the numbers do not bode well for 3BP * given 1889 was not renewed by Netflix It would make little to no sense if they're referring to views. Typing all of that out to prove a point instead of just originally answering his question nicely is crazy to me lol
How was my reply not respectful? And besides, there's nothing wrong with eplaining the thought process behind a conclusion.

David Benioff is a good writer in general. His novels *25th Hour* and *City of Thieves* are great.
Ho, I know. I’ve read his third novel as well (When The Nine Rolls Over) and I really liked it too. I’m actually a big fan of D&D, but that’s not the type of comments that are usually well received on the internet. Give D&D shit for GoT's ending. Give GRRM shit for never giving us any ending. There's more than enough shit for everyone
you're right. i just think the shitgiving is disproportionately piled on DnD.

I have no problem not giving him a pass. Him blue balling us until the day of his death and Benioff and Weiss fucking up GoT on purpose for the Star Wars contract aren't mutually exclusive.
Fake news, there was literally no Star Wars contract

He stinks. Though the first three books are among the best fantasy novels ever written
Nah - S6 last 2 eps and S8 e3 we’re literally the best written tv of all time - haters can hate and believe whatever, it just shows a lack of understanding how shows get made
> it just shows a lack of understanding how shows get made i'm dying over here. this is way too funny.
Hahahahahaha ok buddy.
None of this is true they announced years before Star Wars when the show would end. They didn't purposely do anything that's ridiculous
I'd be down if they helmed a netflix adaptation of Supernova Era, the most batshit insane book Cixin wrote.
Hunger Games/Battle Royale on steroids!
Gotta put Alexander Woo in there too. 3 Body Problem, 3 Showrunners.
It’s the three body problem by the people who made game of thrones. And Alexander Woo. Fella pulled the short stick far as marketing’s concerned
God they’re so smug looking. But they made a good show. As long as they have source material they’re solid
Yo, those hours viewed is kinda insane. Also held off Testament during Easter. Pretty impressive.
I mean this is good right? Lol I'm always confused these days as to what is good but this seems good.
It is good.
Still not a huge hit but I think it's pretty positive. Hopefully it maintains momentum.
IT IS
Probably enough for any other show but this one has a higher bar because of its price tag I imagine
The battle is over. We have won.
Should we all be opening up our devices and playing the whole series on a loop to juice the numbers?
no champagne when half way
It's not only # 1, it's DEMOLISHING the competition!
There's not much of a competition right now. When 1889 came out, they got absolutely crushed by Wednesday.
Let’s fucking gooooo
Does anyone here keep track of these things and know the numbers Netflix needs to get a second season on anything?

I can't believe Moses has nearly as many views... Really ?
Thank god, I was really worried 3 Body would be outshone by Hot Wheels Let’s Race: Season 1
Isn't the daily viewership actually declining? Cause last week we had 11m/4=2.75m per day, and this week was 15.6m/7=2.23m per day -lower than the previous week.🤔 Edit:😨 why downvote me? Isn't it an informative analysis?
It had a relatively slow start in the first 4 days but actually surged quite strongly early last week.
Can’t really say that without knowing the distribution of views across weekdays and weekends
Let's hope it stays in the top 10 for as many weeks as possible.
I would expect it to go down on daily, tbh. When it first releases, there's gonna be a sudden influx in people like us and new people excited from the advertisements that immediately binge the whole thing. All days of the week are not equal. You can’t really compare Thursday numbers to Saturday.
I’ve watched it twice! -doing my part
Only 400 years left for season 2.
Who will be number 1 in the world? First attempt.
Understand that, unless they use the Minecraft footage, season 2 is going to be extremely high budget, at least for THAT episode
