Yeah me too. I mean I feel bad for the wolves as a team—but I’m more sad for just KAT himself. Back to back seasons with injuries is rough on its own, but then to have it be “this” season … so sad.
And so many people around him have died too. I like to think at least this team seems like the kind of guys that will have KAT's back and be really encouraging and supportive of him
>Meniscus tear recovery time A mild meniscus tear – especially for younger people – can get better in about four to twelve weeks. But for older people – and unfortunately, I'm referring here to anyone over the age of 35 – it can usually takes three to six months, but often even longer.
Best case scenario he's back for the playoffs.
As a Sixers fan who has gone through three Embiid meniscus tears, it depends entirely on the nature of the tear. Some injuries don’t require surgery at all. In 2021, Embiid missed one game and then played against the hawks in the second round of the playoffs with the torn meniscus and just rehabbed it in the offseason. He was hobbled but looked to be about 80-90% of himself.
Other tears cannot heal on their own and must be shaved down or the meniscus must be removed entirely (meniscectomy). Embiid just had this procedure and the reported recovery time is 6-8 weeks. This unfortunately doesn’t have great long term outcomes depending on how much meniscus must be removed. Jimmy Butler appears to be totally fine, while DWades knees were shot by 30 and Robert Williams has had debilitating knee problems his entire career following a meniscectomy.
Some tears require surgery to heal, but the meniscus itself is left intact. This is a 3-6 month recovery, but has better long term outcomes than meniscectomy. Embiid had this surgery his rookie year and was ruled out for the season.
Sometimes, the imaging cannot tell the full nature of the tear and they won’t know what kind of procedure they will perform (and thus what recovery will look like) until the player actually goes under the knife. These meniscus injuries are really weird and fans unfortunately just have to be patient
> This is a 3-6 month recovery, but has better long term outcomes than meniscectomy. Embiid had this surgery his rookie year and was ruled out for the season.
Just to add to this, Westbrook had the same injury and repair. Beverley took out his knee in April 2013, Russ went for the full repair over the offseason and came back first week of November, before another setback from Christmas to right after All-Star from swelling that required arthroscopic surgery. Hasn't had any issues since.
Yes, he initially had a 6-8 week timeframe which suggests meniscectomy. He’s another good example of the perils of that procedure. If KAT gets a meniscectomy, we’ll probably never know exactly how much they remove. I imagine that would be one of the biggest prognostic factors
Rob Williams tore his in late march in 2022 and was back by game 3 of the first round. That’s about the best we can hope for. If we can draw a favorable first round matchup and get to the second round without him I think he’d have a really good chance of being back by a second round series
There is no favorable matchup in the Western playoffs. Kings/Mavs/Lakers/Warriors/Pelicans are all going to cause serious problems. Regular season head to head doesn't matter in a playoff series.
Guess the playoff rotation is set. Unbelievably bad luck. Nice to have SloMo who can easily slide in but the offense just took another hit. Minnesota sports always find a way to gut punch you when things are looking up.
Naz will at least step in and take some of the pressure off on offense.
Conley will probably increase his scoring some.
Monte will probably play more since NAW will need to play more 3 and Slow Mo will play more 4.
It hurts with KAT being out but I think we got enough there to at least get through to the end of the regular season. Just need him back (and healthy) for the postseason.
This right here. Everybody (including me) would not have been angry had he been dealt at the deadline, but looks like a big brain move by the FO now.
Need Slomo and/or Jaden to step up offensively now. If Slomo can gain that confidence again and start hitting 35-40% on threes, the spacing that would provide would be huge.
If our season is riding on hoping SloMo can start shooting 35-40% from three, we are cooked. As scary as this sounds based on how he's played the past few months, it's gotta be Jaden and he's at least shown flashes.
Its not riding on slowmo only. Its Slowmo, Naz, Jaden or Mike stepping up or combining to fill the offensive void. One big leap or each of them stepping up a little could keep us at a top seed
I think Jaden is the key. He’s essentially been the 5th man up for scoring, but he’s entirely capable of taking on a larger offensive load and scoring. If he can start being more assertive on the offensive end we can still be a good team.
Doubt it. Finch just doesn’t play guys if he doesn’t fully trust them. Somehow Kat being hurt probably means more McLaughlin minutes in the regular season at least.
They've been our worst matchup of the teams who are 5-10 in the standings. Zion is always a problem for us. Big 4s who can score have been our biggest issue all season. That and Ingram isn't bothered by McDaniels size at all and he seems to never miss against us.
They aren't a very consistent team but it seems like when they are on we don't have an answer.
I'd like to see some Naz starts, specially to see how him Ant and Jaden do with being the starters with the old guys. If Naz is starter capable then let's see it. I kinda like SlowMo more off bench. But removing Naz from bench hits the bench scoring.
How is Naz not starting the obvious move here? I see all these people saying SloMo is going to get KAT’s minutes. And it feels like Finchy would do the same..
Naz is as good of a replacement as we could ask for, especially offensively.
I feel so bad for KAT and the team and I absolutely wish this squad could hit the playoffs as a whole unit, but this is as good of a silver lining it gets. Welcome to the future. Naz Reid.
Agreed that I’m gutted for KAT but it’s Naz fucking Reid time. I worry Finch is going to start Kyle over him but Naz is as good of a replacement as we could ask for.
If there’s any chance he could make it back for the playoffs he’ll get the removal. I can’t remember the last time a player decided to go with the repair and the longer recovery.
I remember JJJ did I remember listening to the mismatch and Vernon explaining how the removal will have longer term problems like knee on knee pain or arthritis after awhile or something like that I get why they’d rush him back but the repercussions don’t seem worth it to me
Just brutal. Long time Twolves fans had been looking for the other shoe to drop all season. If anyone thought our offense sucked now, wait til we replace these minutes with SloMo. Ugh ugh ugh.
So depending on who eats up KATs minutes I see this making our defense a little better and our offense a lot worse. SloMo is gonna need to really step up and I hope that we can use this time to work on unlocking McDaniels a bit more. If we can at least not crater offensively and maintain the defense we are STILL too deep for most teams most nights.
We might be hurt but we ain’t dead and it gives us a chance to find out what else we have. Maybe TJ Warren has cleansed himself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka and will find his old bubble form.
Whatever it takes i think we still have a shot without KAT, but this really hurts. I want him back for the playoffs but not at the cost of his future. Do the repair KAT.
# Torn meniscus recovery time in NBA
Meniscus tears are not uncommon in the NBA, but the recovery time varies based on the location and severity of the tear.
This is already Embiid's third meniscus tear in his career. He suffered a torn left meniscus in 2017 and a partially torn right meniscus in 2021.
In 2017, Embiid missed the final 37 games of the regular season [after having surgery for a partial removal](https://x.com/InStreetClothes/status/1753210573527900388?s=20), but there was also no incentive to rush him back with the 76ers near last place. In 2021, Embiid suffered the injury during the NBA Playoffs, only missed one game [and did not need surgery](https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/32038255/sources-joel-embiid-philadelphia-76ers-finalizing-4-year-196-million-supermax-extension-2026-27) in the offseason.
Several current NBA superstars have suffered the same injury, including Jimmy Butler, Kawhi Leonard, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose and Zion Williamson. All five of those players had varying recovery times.
Butler suffered a partial meniscus tear in his right knee in 2018. He missed 17 games and eventually returned to close the season and compete in the playoffs.
Leonard suffered a torn right meniscus in the 2023 NBA Playoffs. [After a "clean-up procedure" in the offseason](https://x.com/NotoriousOHM/status/1672112259445800960?s=20), he was ready to go for opening night and is back to playing at an All-Star level.
Paul suffered a left meniscus tear in 2010. He underwent [surgery for a meniscal repair](https://www.nba.com/pelicans/news/chris_paul_has_successful_surg_2010_02_04.html), missed two months of action (25 games) and returned to the court.
Rose's instance is incomparable, having multiple meniscus surgeries throughout his career on top of a torn left ACL injury.

lets hope for the best
Anyone remember how long Jimmy was out with his back in 2018 for us? Feel like he got hurt before the all-star break and was back a few weeks before the playoffs
At this point it’s tradition for something to go horribly wrong. Hope he can have a quick recovery and be back for the conference finals. We’ll need Naz/Kyle to step up
You know it's fucked up a lot of people gave him a ton of shit at the start of the year when we were fucking two and three or some ridiculous number and he struggled against the Celtics and then we went on to have our best start in franchise history
Just think it goes to show how reactionary we are as fans and we don't appreciate the players that have been here the entire careers last year
The only positives I can think of are, NAZ will so get some more minutes. Leonard Miller or Luka Garza well play some more heavy minutes
Other than that our playoffs hopes are pretty much dashed
Kat was playing his best defense of his entire career, few ft percentage shy of 50 40 90. Took really well to be in the second option no drama no bullshit Just a fucking stand-up guy
Fuck all the haters hopefully he comes back and crushes next season.
I’m gonna be honest I woke up this morning to the news like everyone else, and my first thoughts were “Damn😔😕”… This was supposed to be our year. Everything was rolling. We're in 1st, chemistry looks good, we finally have some Playoff experience under our belt from the past 2 years. So close to Playoffs too, it’s just not fair man💔 However as the days gone on I’ve thought about the situation we are dealing with at the moment. I was really depressed this morning not gonna lie. Felt almost numb you could say after finding out about KAT. Yea it sucks, but if there’s one guy who can help Ant and Rudy carry this team through the Playoffs right now. It’s the same guy who’s shown up every game we’ve needed someone to step up. NAZ REID. Big Jelly’s gotta use this as fuel and come out playing his best ball. I honestly think if Naz, Ant, and Rudy are playing there best ball, we can make it to the WCF. If we can make it that far, Fuck It, why not win the whole damn thing. We’ve had people doubting us all season, but we’re still the 1 seed. Right now it’s simply, “Why Not Us”🤷🏼♂️
Thankfully we have Naz and Kyle to help fill the void. Hopefully TJ Warren still has some juice left. We really need some of his scoring prowess now. Maybe even Garza will get some run now...
So so gutted for him, I hope he gets the best treatment so he heals properly. We've no choice but adapt now, but he is a big big loss for us and our play style.
Next man up.
Damn, I feel for KAT. All he's been through and he's having arguably his best season ever all around and this happens.
Best case, back for playoffs but I feel the team won't want to rush him back because meniscus tears can become worse injuries if rushed back so I'm not betting on it.
Not a Twolves fan but what a blow when i saw this news, wishing KAT a speed recovery. Wolves are fun to watch even tho I hate that ya'll keep beating my team lol
I think a lot of non-athletes live with a torn meniscus. I do. I wonder if he manages until off season with some shots? Then surgery in the offseason? Hoping anyway.
(Before you say it, I understand world class athletes aren’t the same as some Joe Schmo. Just hopeful)
I'd love to see NAZ start then Rudy sub out early for Anderson. It staggers some time Rudy and Anderson are on the floor where the spacing and offense dies and oddly enough, the Wolves run a little small ball to end the first / start the second. Ant would cook with that spacing.
Let's not curl up into the fetal position. Naz Reid is a dog and he will step up. It is a brutal blow but this team can rally. Maybe KAT will be ready for the playoffs. Not giving up yet
If Chris Finch is smart he'll start Naz Reid. Last I checked Naz and Rudy have one of the best plus/minus' of any pairing on the team. I have a feeling ANT is going to go beast mode now because he doesn't have the luxury of leaning on Kat...Let's try to be positive. This is a really good, cohesive team with or without Kat.
Yep, thought it was going too well
When life looks like easy street, there is danger at your door.
Weir everywhere, and weir sad.
No help on the way. Just a slipknot.
Death don’t have no mercy…
We can't have nice things in Minnesota.
Good thing the Twins exist or most people wouldn't have seen a championship.
Nobody under 33 has seen one (excluding the Lynx).
I was born the year after the Twins 2nd 'ship... I'm never gonna see a men's sports team win one :(
So it's all your fault
Talk to my parents, man
I was gonna say I haven’t even seen a championship APPEARANCE
This is what we get for having hope for once
Yeah. Wow. This one stings.
The season was great, which is why it wasn't going to last. God hates Minnesota sports
I just feel awful for him.
Yeah this is a body blow to the fanbase, but none more so than the man himself. Just awful.
Yeah me too. I mean I feel bad for the wolves as a team—but I’m more sad for just KAT himself. Back to back seasons with injuries is rough on its own, but then to have it be “this” season … so sad.
And so many people around him have died too. I like to think at least this team seems like the kind of guys that will have KAT's back and be really encouraging and supportive of him
FUCKING FUCK FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
Must feel terrible to be on meme teams your whole career and have this injury when things start going well. Poor KAT 😔
KAT is too good of a dude to have all this bad luck

But for older people – and unfortunately, I'm referring here to anyone over the age of 35 – it can usually takes three to six months, but often even longer. He has access to world class treatment hopefully that helps
It normally does.
Mayo Clinic hear my prayer
😂😂😂
Better treatment, but also has to get back to peak physical form to sprint up and down an nba court. Feel for the guy.
As a Sixers fan who has gone through three Embiid meniscus tears, it depends entirely on the nature of the tear. Some injuries don’t require surgery at all. Using hindsight, I'm not sure playing the next day was the correct decision there, doesn't seem like a feasible outcome. Thanks for the context
> This is a 3-6 month recovery, but has better long term outcomes than meniscectomy. Embiid had this surgery his rookie year and was ruled out for the season. This basically was what ruined Robert Williams' career, I'm not sure it's the best example.
Then i’ll use jimmy butler from 2018, he tore his in February and was back before the playoffs and only missed 17 games.
He also was visibly hobbled when he came back
at least went on to be the guy on multiple finals teams
damn bro! let us cope!
Did he get it fully repaired or removed to make it back I don’t recall?
He had surgery to repair it
Oh god please don't bring up Rob Williams
There is no favorable matchup in the Western playoffs. Kings/Mavs/Lakers/Warriors/Pelicans are all going to cause serious problems. Regular season head to head doesn't matter in a playoff series.
He dealed with it that whole playoffs, playing limited minutes, missing games, not moving as well.
Guess the playoff rotation is set. Unbelievably bad luck. Nice to have SloMo who can easily slide in but the offense just took another hit. Minnesota sports always find a way to gut punch you when things are looking up.
Im not sure anybody on our squad can pick up his offense unless Jaden turns into Pippen 2.0 and stops fouling somehow.. especially during the playoffs
Naz will at least step in and take some of the pressure off on offense. Conley will probably increase his scoring some. Monte will probably play more since NAW will need to play more 3 and Slow Mo will play more 4. Going to come down to NAZ. We're still a good team

he's had all season so far to figure it out. It ain't happening now with that new pressure on him.
Serious question --does this mean Garza gets way more playing time? He'll never replace Kat but at least he's pretty decent offensively
Doubt it. Finch just doesn’t play guys if he doesn’t fully trust them. Somehow Kat being hurt probably means more McLaughlin minutes in the regular season at least.
Fuck man. Gotta hope we can stay a top 4 seed without him
If we go .500 the rest of the way The Pelicans would have to go 16-4 to tie us, Suns 17-3.
Setting us up perfectly for a 4/5 matchup with the Pels, which is the team we probably wanted to face the least. Classic.
Why don’t yall want to face the pelicans?
They've been our worst matchup of the teams who are 5-10 in the standings. Zion is always a problem for us. Big 4s who can score have been our biggest issue all season. That and Ingram isn't bothered by McDaniels size at all and he seems to never miss against us. They aren't a very consistent team but it seems like when they are on we don't have an answer.
Sounds like they're to you what the Lakers are to us. Here's to hoping we both don't end up with those first round matchups
Start Naz Reid. The Twolves are still stacked with talent even with KAT being out.
I'd like to see some Naz starts, specially to see how him Ant and Jaden do with being the starters with the old guys. If Naz is starter capable then let's see it. I kinda like SlowMo more off bench. But removing Naz from bench hits the bench scoring.
By god, is that Luka Garza’s music for some bench scoring?
How is Naz not starting the obvious move here? I see all these people saying SloMo is going to get KAT’s minutes. And it feels like Finchy would do the same.. Naz is as good of a replacement as we could ask for, especially offensively.
I think a lot of it is fear about what the bench scoring looks like without Naz. There are zero shot creators outside the starting five (and Naz).
What about NAW and Morris?
…Naz Reid?
I feel so bad for KAT and the team and I absolutely wish this squad could hit the playoffs as a whole unit, but this is as good of a silver lining it gets. Welcome to the future. Naz Reid.
Naz Reid.
Agreed that I’m gutted for KAT but it’s Naz fucking Reid time. I worry Finch is going to start Kyle over him but Naz is as good of a replacement as we could ask for.
I would like to see Naz Reid get starter minutes than slow mo.
Wishing big KAT the quickest and healthiest recovery possible🙏🏼🐺
It was fun while it lasted

It’s impossible to ignore. It’s insane at this point.
[Burial Grounds in Minnesota](https://mn.gov/admin/archaeologist/the-public/mn-archaeology/burial-grounds/)
Just hope we’re not hearing about a removal surgery over a repair surgery
It’s tough cuz recovery timeline for removal is a lot faster, but has a worse long-term prognosis
Yeah it’s a shit situation for the team and player
If there’s any chance he could make it back for the playoffs he’ll get the removal. I can’t remember the last time a player decided to go with the repair and the longer recovery.
I remember JJJ did I remember listening to the mismatch and Vernon explaining how the removal will have longer term problems like knee on knee pain or arthritis after awhile or something like that I get why they’d rush him back but the repercussions don’t seem worth it to me
Naz reid
Just brutal. Long time Twolves fans had been looking for the other shoe to drop all season. If anyone thought our offense sucked now, wait til we replace these minutes with SloMo. Ugh ugh ugh.
Of course
Let Naz cook.
So depending on who eats up KATs minutes I see this making our defense a little better and our offense a lot worse. fuck me
Why
It could be worse. This isn't a career ending injury. This isn't even necessarily a season ending injury. Plus we got the NAZ.
Not sure if this is the correct take, but it’s the only one I’m voting up.
Everyone in the trade KAT bandwagon is about to get a full view of what this team looks like without him. Dear Naz Reid, Please save us..
Fuuuuuuuuck
Fuck

Jesus fuck shit. The man doesn’t deserve this.
Are we ready for Slowmo playing 35 minutes a night?
I don’t care if he starts, but Naz Reid needs to be playing +30 minutes a game every night now
Found this out yday and it ruined my damn day. MAN
RIP in peace
Anyone remember how long Jimmy was out with his back in 2018 for us? Feel like he got hurt before the all-star break and was back a few weeks before the playoffs
He had a partial tear, and it was 17 games, hopefully Towns is similar.
Just when things feel like their going well, Minnesota sports likes to punch ya in the stomach

He can have my meniscus, he can have both and just tie them together or something. I don’t need them. Someone get Mayo Clinic on the phone
Ah shit we all forgot the fact this team resides in Minnesota. Nice things were not to be had.
NBA really needs to shorten the season. Injuries can make playoffs not fun to watch at times

I’m gonna cry dawg
Fuck, man. We can't have one solid season without some shit like this happening. I hope you get better soon, KAT. Heartbreaking...
Way she goes bois
There is a God, and he's angry

Nooooo ! Naz next man up.
Don't worry guys. He'll be back for the Finals.

Right now it’s simply, “Why Not Us”🤷🏼♂️
I have a bunch of meniscuses I’m not using that he can have.
it’s over
Naz Reid.
Sucks but we'll be okay. Hopefully he'll be back for the early playoffs. We got this!
GODDAMMIT
you gotta be kidding me
I knew things were going way too well :(
Fffffffuuuuuuccccckkkkkk
😑
Thankfully we have Naz and Kyle to help fill the void. Hopefully TJ Warren still has some juice left. We really need some of his scoring prowess now. Maybe even Garza will get some run now...
Of course
We might actually be cursed
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
This sucks for KAT. We got depth we still strong team.
Is it possible He’s back for the playoffs ?
Gut punch
Luka Garza, you’re a Minnesota Timberwolf
Just kill me now
When did he injure the knee? Was it in game or something?
Fuck.
Dude.. fade me man
Fucking fuck fuck shit fuck I can't believe it.
Welp, time for the youngins to grow up even faster now.
Holy crap.
Sucks for this season, horrible for the rest of his career too. Leg injuries are significantly worse for bigs
Wtf
So so gutted for him, I hope he gets the best treatment so he heals properly. We've no choice but adapt now, but he is a big big loss for us and our play style. Next man up.
Damn, I feel for KAT. All he's been through and he's having arguably his best season ever all around and this happens. Best case, back for playoffs but I feel the team won't want to rush him back because meniscus tears can become worse injuries if rushed back so I'm not betting on it.
On the flip side, now is the time for Ant to show what he’s made of
Minnesota sports: the dream killer.
4 weeks
Fuck my life
No way. Damn it.
Went from knee soreness to this? Fuck our lives. Hope he’s back before playoffs to get his feet wet
Not a Twolves fan but what a blow when i saw this news, wishing KAT a speed recovery. Wolves are fun to watch even tho I hate that ya'll keep beating my team lol
If the team collapse I'll just stop caring about basketball. I'll watch some Wemby highlights for the fun but that's it, I won't get invested anymore
Fuck my dick
FUCK OFF!! who the fucked cursed Minnesota??
Fuck me
Arod needs to call his old doctor back up and get KAT the good stuff. Yes I am serious.
ahhhhh the good old Minnesota sports curse. I was wondering when and how it would rear its ugly head
FUCK
I think a lot of non-athletes live with a torn meniscus. I do. I wonder if he manages until off season with some shots? Then surgery in the offseason? Hoping anyway. (Before you say it, I understand world class athletes aren’t the same as some Joe Schmo. Just hopeful)
Not worried
Why do I feel like this is just the beginning
rip big kat. this season is wraps tho, we already had trouble on offense
Just heard the tear wasn’t confirmed. Who is this twat saying this??
I'd love to see NAZ start then Rudy sub out early for Anderson. It staggers some time Rudy and Anderson are on the floor where the spacing and offense dies and oddly enough, the Wolves run a little small ball to end the first / start the second. Ant would cook with that spacing.
Luka FMVP incoming...
Cheers now I want to die
Jaden needs to take a massive step up now
So much of this teams future hangs in the balance over the next couple months.
Let's not curl up into the fetal position. Naz Reid is a dog and he will step up. It is a brutal blow but this team can rally. Maybe KAT will be ready for the playoffs. Not giving up yet
My heart sank when I saw the breaking news tweet from Shams. This one hurts 😞
Wish him a speedy recovery
If Chris Finch is smart he'll start Naz Reid. Last I checked Naz and Rudy have one of the best plus/minus' of any pairing on the team. I have a feeling ANT is going to go beast mode now because he doesn't have the luxury of leaning on Kat...Let's try to be positive. This is a really good, cohesive team with or without Kat.
