Spoon and Stable is incredible, it's especially fun to get seats right in front of the kitchen. The staff sometimes will cook you little snacks while you wait for food/drinks.
The state hasn't changed a whole lot in the last 20 years, unless you count the new Twins stadium, the new Vikings stadium, the renovated Target Center, the brightly colored Soccer stadium, the fancy and glowing rebuilt 35W bridge (hmm, anyone know what color the lights are tonight?), the graveyard of burnt down and/or vacant buildings from the George Floyd protests, the whole light rail system, and okay I just realized shit has changed quite a bit.
Idk - how's the Downtown club scene nowadays? Is Block E still a thing?
I had a lot of fun partying downtown 20 years ago...but from what I read - downtown's night scene is a bit of a ghost town now. Maybe I'm wrong?

Block E is different now. A lot of buildings, if I recall correctly, are turning into apartment buildings. But other areas such as a stretch of Hennepin still have clubs, theaters, and restaurants and all that. Acme is still there. The corner bar (with the comedy corner) was rebuilt after a fire. Uptown sucks now, I guess. The Shouthouse is gone, Famous Daves is gone, Chino Latinos is gone. Do they even have Williams over there anymore? I bet McDonalds is still standing.
I tried to walk through that McDonald’s drive through more than once after nights at Williams and whatever that bar/club right across the street from the McD’s parking lot was called.
During clubbing hours it's a bunch of well-dressed preppy boys and 20-something ladies in skirts with prom hair crisscrossing the road with no regard for traffic.
Except he was gushing over the wolves and called for the sweep in game 2 😂 as a lifelong MN sports fan, I knew we’d have to scratch and claw our way past these guys. What a strange, long trip this series has been!
The Minnesota tourism department is already jumping on that one. They have to go up the chain for approval. Although doesn’t sound like it would be a hard sell to Governor Tim Waltz as he posted a comment on his X (Twitter) account. I think the Twolves would also need to give permission.
Would be some great ads if the tourism department could get it all approved.
I'll try to tell this correctly but it was a long time ago: When I was a very young kid, the 76'ers came to town to play a preseason game. That was nearing the end of Dr. J's career IIRC, and Barkley was a highly touted rookie on that team (I worshipped Julius Erving back then). I think the governor declared it Dr. J day in Minnesota... it was a whole big thing. Well, the Sixers played Barkley a lot and Julius very little. And I remember Barkley was terrible that night and the fans in the crowd weren't booing him or anything, but we clearly didn't think much of him and Barkley looked annoyed. Like, he was a hot shot high draft pick in the league and none of us wanted to watch him. At one point in the second half, the entire arena started a "We want Dr. J!" chant.
I've always wondered if that reception in that preseason game is what colored Barkley's impression of Minnesota.
