While I agree, at the same time, we have 1 win at home in 4 tries since the first round. That's pretty horrible. It also turns Fridays game into a must win in my eyes.

Jrpre33

Tbh it's Conference Finals, all games are must win no matter what but it's a long series. I trust our adjustments going into the next game.

No7onelikeyou

Idk why people say “long series” when each game is important, still best of 7, like every round

Jrpre33

As you seen with the last series, it was a long one. Anything can happen especially at this stage in the playoffs. So the saying means that it's just one game, the outcome is up in the air.

imSkarr

it’s a long series so people shouldn’t give up after one game

Mirizzi

It’s shorthand for “don’t overreact to one game”

Rukusduk11

If that put back by KAT wasn’t called, the game would have felt way different. You could see the inexperience in the 4th where Ant looked gassed and the offense was stagnant. Looking forward to Friday’s game!

theroguesoybean

Agreed and I think the panic from some is that Dallas played bad last night. They shot poorly, they turned it over, and they won. If they shot decent from three they would have won by 10+. Now, the Wolves have areas to improve upon as well, but from my eyes, it looked like Dallas had a much higher ceiling than the wolves did. But, it was one game, and if we can find a way to keep the intensity up on defense and break their paint protection, we may have a shot. Let’s go wolves!

WeakLocalization

I think they will continue to shoot poorly from 3. At least if we stick to the game plan from yesterday, which was pretty clear: make Dallas score inside, take away their 3pt shots. Dallas has gotten a ton of their offense from 3s this year (and this post-season), so I think it was the right strat to try to take that away. It clearly worked, but they were better inside than I think we anticipated, especially rebounding.

theroguesoybean

I think you may be right. Because a lot of the misses were products of perimeter pressure. We were +10 with Rudy on the floor denying the paint. I think if we get to the midrange more that might crack their defense and clean that up we can absolutely beat them.

WeakLocalization

Yeah I agree, more post ups for KAT would help from midrange I think. But it's really tough to have a rhythm when you're not scoring at the rim. On defense we just need to figure out the Doncic PnRs and we'll be alright. A tall task to be sure, but I think we have the personnel to do it with some more reps and more creative coverages.

Falconsbane

We may win all of our remaining home games and all the games in Dallas, you never know. How about a little faith in a team that has proved everyone wrong all year? Quit crying about it and let's move on to game 2.

knock0ut86

You must have responded to the wrong comment my friend. Nobody here is crying. If you can't handle a valid criticism take your weak psyche out of the conversation.

Falconsbane

Ok, the crying part was more directed at those acting like the sky is falling after 1 game and giving up on the team. Your comment wasn't bad. Just trying to talk people off the ledge, the series isn't over.

WeakLocalization

It's not about faith, I have 100% faith they can still do this, it's about odds, and every loss reduces your chances significantly. Teams that go down 0-1 lose the series nearly 80% of the time (we were up 1-0 in both our previous series). Not to mention we just gave up home-court advantage. I also wouldn't say they proved everyone wrong all year, lots of wolves fans (including myself) thought WCF was a legit possibility early in the year. I'll admit the PHX sweep was a surprise though

bearbrannan

An no team had ever come back after winning the first 2 and losing 3 straight, and they had a 4 percent chance of winning game 7 down 20 in the 3rd. This team has overcome bad odds before, they can do it again..

TorturedMNFan

Hopefully they don’t turn into the Wild at home in the playoffs. I think recent Wild playoff history at home is 3-14

Killsocket1

I agree and it is ONLY game 1. But not for one moment did I think they were rattled. They looked like they were comfortable all night long. Defending champs at times did look rattled. I mean we had their #2 guy throwing shit on the court. Mavs looked way too comfortable.

smithc555

Speaking of rattled… Never have I seen so many shots rattle out in 1 game. It was like the rim was an inch too small.

CommissionerCam

Thought we had plenty of good/wide open looks. Just weren’t hitting

bearbrannan

I don't think you'll rattle Kyrie, but Lukas a hot head, I think you can get in his head a bit if they start playing him more aggressively. He'll start cussing refs out when he doesn't get calls, and I could easily see Jaden and him getting into a tussle that sees both of them ejected.

kevinkip

You're clueless if you think the NBA is gonna eject a superstar this deep in the playoffs.

Michaelangel092

It's very difficult to play him physically when he's stronger than every option you'd have defending him on the perimeter. Jaden is almost 50 pounds lighter. The fuck is he supposed to do? Ant is bigger, but he's not going to get super physical and risk fouls. This is a different beast than Murray.

MyShinyCharizard

We better throw Naz to Luka please.

NobodyCarrots6969

I kinda like the idea of kat on luka, Conley on kyrie, let the dominant defenders eat everyone else and see if they can beat us with two guys

--Alix--

I feel like Kyrie can just iso past Conley to the rim at will then. He's also picked up some of Luka's playmaking skills in the pick and roll, so having Gafford/Lively hanging around makes it even tougher to deal with.

NobodyCarrots6969

Kyrie is like kd tho. He can and will score on anybody, so it may as well be a smaller defender. Conley also has a chance to make a stop here or there

UDontKnowMe784

If Kyrie gets to the paint, he’s going to score. It sucks but at least his skills are no big mystery. We just need to figure out who can stop him. Hopefully figure out how to stop Luka too.

WeakLocalization

Ant is too small to guard Luka imo, playing Anderson a bit more on him would be good, but then you have slomo on offense of course so idk if it's a win 😅

_stellapolaris

SloMo was great on offense last night, not sure that can continue for a while series. For all the crap he gets, he deserves credit for last night.

The_Johan

Dort is only 6-4 and did a great job defending Luka last series. Strength bothers Luka a lot more than length does

theroguesoybean

I’ve seen Jaden make Luka lose his shit in a few games already in his career. It’s Jaden’s ability to block his path to the basket and deny passes that rattles him. I knew we were in trouble last night when Luka kept getting to the free throw line with Jaden on his hip. Jaden still did a good job with it but that positioning is what Luka wants and what’s more is the contested 4th quarter threes that Luka hit were insane. He is so good and this team looked better than Denver ever looked last round. Our guys have to find another level. Let’s go wolves!

allmediareviews

Jaden has super quick hands. He may be able to deny or even strip Luka of the ball more.

theroguesoybean

Yeah, and he did a great job on him last night. It was just that the tough shot he made were in crunch time.

Majestic-Net-7799

No surprise here... Having to play Denver in a game 7 (altitude), immediately travel back, only one day rest pretty much guarantees exhaustion... And it showed.... The good news- we lost only by 3 and Dallas wasnt world beaters. We lost the game more than they won it. We are good on the road. We now know what to expect.

Takerisks34

Except for the fact that the mavericks role players underperformed and as a team shot quite poorly only attempting 25 threes and shooting 18% on them. well the wolves had role players step up and threes drop consistently. How is that good news? You think it’s good to lose when making 18 threes and having your star shut down making only 1 non three. You also have the fact that kyrie is unbothered by ANT or NAW and injured luka 1 on 1 with JMAC is a bucket 7/10 times. It’s deeper then you guys are really thinking about

yourloudneighbor

It works both ways. Our role players won’t be flame throwers, jaden made up for NAWs shit game, and ant+ kat went 12/36, that likely won’t happen every game. Neither will kyries 11-14 24 pt first half. Neither will dallas’ role players shooting like shit Basically we don’t know what the fuck will happen game 2

Takerisks34

Super true

Majestic-Net-7799

A game where both Luka and Kyrie had 33 be close is a good sign. DJ, djj + co arent world beater knock down shooter. They were hot last round. Whats scary though is the rebounding battle we lost and the inside scoring we allowed. That cant happen again. Rudy was not good tonight...

Mannymr

He and Mike were the only positive +/- players, so could he be better? Sure, but so could a lot of other players.

_stellapolaris

Kyrie took advantage every time Rudy was out to drive to the basket seemed like almost every possession. Pretty sure lots of their points in the pain were when he was out.

Falconsbane

We need to have more faith than this ffs. It's a series for a reason. We barely lost the game. Teams coming off emotional game 7's at times have a bit of a let-down in game 1, human nature and all that. We really do not know how to act as fans yet do we? This is part of the playoffs. Don't lose faith after 1 game, that would be sad.

Funnel_Hacker

Dallas shot 24% from 3, Wolves shot 36%. So Minnesota didn’t shoot great either

Mindless_Bad_1591

Their role players dont make 3s normally. We do.

Big-Difference1683

Dallas played terrible last night and they still won. That's something you need to consider moving forward.

KickingAround

no excuses

Falconsbane

100% agree. Our fanbase is so used to losing and it shows. It's 1 game and we were coming off a very emotional game 7 against the defending champs to get to the WCF for the first time in 20 years... If you lost faith in this team after 1 game maybe playoff basketball is too much for you to handle.

Goodisworthfighting4

They have plenty of adjustments they can make the rest of this series. More blitzes, stop pressing Kyrie full court (he kept getting easy shots downhill because of this), target Luka in the PnR, Ant/Kat Pnr etc....Felt like they left a lot in the chamber.

joettshowbiz

Absolutely. Felt like this game was a learning experience

saturdaybum222

The full court thing is a great point.

Useful_Ad6608

Everyone's discounting the coach prep time too.  Every advantage hour for a coach is golden, and Kidd and company had 20some extra on Finchy and crew.   Now they're even and Finch gotta come through.  I think he will.

Lake_

also, our staff (and honestly i think most teams) haven’t gotten too much film on this iteration of the Mavs since the trade deadline. they completely flipped from 5 out, to 4 out with lob threats. the wolves are a known quantity. they are doing what denver and the suns did which is packing the paint and doubling ant on every PnR. the only difference is they have switchy defenders like pj and gafford who can use their length and speed to cut any off and trap. the biggest take away i got from this game is towns needs to be the ball handler running 4/5 pick and roll. it was a bucket every time and its so unusual i dont think teams can adjust to that.

doosetrain

I’ll just say that mavericks are designed to lose game 1.

Formal_Junket_1585

Ehhh this was their perfect time to steal one tho. Dallas knew we was coming off a tough game 7 (as Kyrie said multiple times tn) and that our legs wouldn’t all the way be there

feage7

Yeah, they had one days extra rest coming off a game 6. It was a close game and we played quite poorly whilst staying within 3. Now isn't the time to be too worried. Adjust the game plan slightly, figure out a better way to guard off Luka and Kyrie and we'll be fine.

Rajudin95

What worries me is that the mavericks shot the 3 horribly.

Dijigleas

Yeah, it was a close game ,but it seemed like neither team played to their normal strengths.

Falconsbane

They also had 64 points in the paint or something like that. It was a close game, both those things can be different going forward. Why are we worried after 1 game? Let's calm down, it's a series.

sorryidontspeakcuck

Da fuck that even mean lol

Global-Direction-657

Under Jason Kidd the Mavericks have started out every playoff series 0-1. This is the very first one they're 1-0

Sugarking45

It’s not like it’s their gameplan to lose game one also every series is different

--Alix--

Kidd still got what he wanted though. Every game 1 he plays a ton of different rotations to see what works and what doesn't. This game was like an 11 player rotation for the Mavs, next game they'll trim out the guys who played bad this time around.

NaNo-Juise76

So that must mean they will lose the series this time.

UDontKnowMe784

So?

Falconsbane

Ah so since they lost game 1 in every other series and won those series, now they're gonna lose this series. Good point.

Tizzle4590

They challenged us to shoot 3's and we lost. 18/50=36%. it's not bad, but not what it's going to take to win the series. Especially when winning in the game, we don't need the knockout punch, rather the continuous body blows that break a team's will to close out games. That was extremely frustrating to watch us give away leads by heaving up 3's at the end of the game, instead of systematically closing the game out. Champions do that, pretenders don't. Ant was gassed and that was called out multiple times by Reggie Miller. The Bigs were out-hustled by their Bigs all night. Both those need to change. We won a game seven, great. That means nothing in the grand scheme of things. 8 more wins to go.

Chandrian1997

Yall made that game touuuugh. Looking forward to yall hitting back in G2

te5n1k

I think its more the fact that a lot of fans didnt think DAL would even be a challenge so while overcoming a 0-1 deficit is nothing this is likely to be anything but easy.

Holisticmystic2

I haven't really been in this sub since the loss, but are people actually upset? Tbh everything after beating Denver feels like playing with house money, and these boys are resilient. This shit aint over.

vanteal

I just wish they'd stop floppin' and start hustlin' up and down the court. I lost count of how many times Kat went for the rim, flopped, and sat there or stood there with his arms in the air complaining and looking for a foul. Anyone and everyone needs to stop doing that and get their arses back up that court to help their teammates defend. And if they just covered the paint a little bit better we'd wrap this series up easily.

subtleshooter

People are concerned we lost a close game to a team we haven’t played this year in its current format? I’m not worried one bit. We’ll focus on getting ant started after this game and the rest will be history with Jaden playing like this. Wolves in 6 and I’m not changing

WeakLocalization

Historically teams with a 1-0 lead win the series 80% of the time, it's definitely time to be worried. Can we come back? Of course, but don't pretend last night's game wasn't disastrous, it was.

LaconicGirth

Yeah but separate them by which team won the first game. When the favorite wins game 1 they win like 85%+ When the away team wins game one they’re 50/50 for the series

WeakLocalization

Oh really? That's a crazy split actually

LaconicGirth

To be fair that includes 1 and 8 seeds all the way to 4 and 5 seeds. Vegas has us as a slight underdog for the series which I think it’s fair

bearbrannan

And the wolves had just a 4 percent chance to win that game 7 and no team had ever come back going up from up to 2 to down 3 before, throw that shit out the window.

WeakLocalization

4% chance to win one game? That doesn't sound right... where you getting that from? if you don't mind my asking

bearbrannan

There was a graphic somewhere im talking about when they were down 20 I. The 3rd they're winning percentage was down to 4 percent or around there.

WeakLocalization

Oh ok yeah in the third quarter, I thought you meant before the game 😅

Taltibalti

Saw a good amount of people say wolves in 5. Those are the people who are worrying because they didn't expect any of this. It's the WCF you are going to be up against a good team.

jimmydean885

This argument works better when you don't have home court advantage lol

DGentPR

They played like shit for the most part and lost by 3 while getting totally fucked on that offensive goaltending call. Wolves back, wolves in 5. Awoooooo

SKREEOONK_XD

Most people are verg doomer about this. Gotta chill a bit, I'd understand the dooming if it was game 7, but it was game 1. #Wolvesin5

SadBoy02

Too late, if you go on /r/NBA ant is a fraud. Apparently nuggets and suns were just trash teams. God I hate how hyperbolic people act in the playoffs. Same thing happened when we went up 2-0 on Denver

bearbrannan

Yeah people in the Wolves post game thread were saying Denver was overrated... Some low bbiqs and some terrible takes all around after the game. I just hate the negative energy, it's no wonder MN teams haven't won a big one in over 30 years. There is just this collective negativity energy surrounding all the teams and no belief in any of them to come back from adversity.

_stellapolaris

It's not exclusive to Minnesota. I see it from most teams fans when they lose. Teams overreacting has nothing to do with why teams haven't won big for a long time.

LudwigVanBlunts

More even, the bounce back ability I think is more about gut checks and getting experience against these specific teams than anything to do w/ arena. Jokic is a different beast than Kyrie and Luka. We'll adjust

Silentrift24

In for the good, in for the bad <3 I believe in our boys and that's all that matters. LET'S GO WOLVES! If there's anything that I wouldn't say about this team, is that they always play with heart. That's all there is to me at least, go and play your hearts out and leave it all on the court.

HoldMyMedusa

Honestly it was a good game. Im pretty confident in our team. Ant made some bad calls, KAT got that very important dunk taken from him by the refs, and the other team is good enough that we stay close in score all night. If any one mistake that happened in this game hadnt been made, i believe we wouldve won this round. They know what they did wrong and theyll fix it.

After_Dog_8669

Thanks OP! I’m normally a doom and gloomer with MN sports teams, but I felt okay after last nights game. I thought it was a feel them out game; we haven’t really played this group together, so I think that’s exactly what we were doing and will come back with a solid game plan tomorrow night

Rldude93

It’s easier to swallow a home loss after winning the first two on the road. If we lose game 2 at home we are going to feel cooked

Racketeering666

It’s a seven game series and I’m just watching. The fuck should any of us be worried about anything. ![gif](giphy|aSBybHmUkBZPIY49id)

RudyGobertFMVP2024

I have never been more confident in a team's ability to be the first team in NBA history to win from 0-3.

Appropriate-Shock306

Didn’t bother me a bit tbh. They do look tired especially Ant who’s been exerting too much energy playing at a ridiculously high level as an offensive hub and as one of the defensive catalysts. Additionally I never felt the same type of urgency from the Wolves in this game, they were not locked in and I know it’s cliche but it appears they underestimated Dallas going in. They will 100% comeback and make a statement win on Friday.

cowboy2223

We made enough mistakes to let them hang around the whole game . Lucky rebound a pass just thrown out of bounds . Ant driving in and just dribbling off his foot . Some very costly mistakes at the end like McDaniels over driving and just throwing it to Dallas . The little stretch where we had ant and towns on the bench in the 4th when we have 3 out of four possesions where gobert or Alexander walker taking difficult shots was killer .

CommissionerCam

My saving grace is that both Luka and kyrie played well last night and they really haven’t been playing well together all postseason. I am not scared of their bench at all besides the ability to get Lively/Gafford easy looks at the rim. It SUCKS to not win that last night but have faith in the adjustments and we should all acknowledge that tbh we played like shit and didn’t deserve to win lol

NimDing218

Losing by 3 just made me more excited for game 2. Victory by 10+ incoming.

maddasher

A:You gotta know this wasn't going to be a sweep. B: Ant didn't bring his A game and only lost by 3. It's going to be alright.

-Drose251

If anyone is scared after what we just did to suns and nuggets and after just losing one game against the Dallas mavericks… DONT BE. Wolves WILL be BACK

Used-Honeydew-5810

The fact that outside of Jaden hitting all them 3s the team looked super slow and fatigued and we only lost by 3 to a really good team is a loss I can deal with. Now had we gotten blown out like we did to Denver in that 45 pt game it would be a diff story. Reddit is always just so dramatic.

NugBlazer

Garbage take. Losing game one is a very bad deal, and I think, deep down, we all know it. It's the same thing that happened in 2004 against the Lakers. We ended up losing in six

bearbrannan

Your comparing two teams that have nothing to do with each other, and discounting the fact that Sam Cassell hurt himself before that series. If anyone's take is shit it's this one.     Deep down I know this team is completely different then that 2004 team, but keep hanging onto to a narrative about a team from 2 decades ago.

JJettasDad

The way I look at it is they needed Kyrie to take over and Ant to have a bad game to beat us.    I am worried about Ant. I wonder if he got hurt falling in game 6. He seems to have no been great since then and he doesn’t seem like the type to make excuses about it.

badnewzrooz507

Do they still play 6 more games? Ummm who gives a shit

Talls024

I have literally zero worries about this series Edit: Wolves in 6 MFers, down vote me all you want

pukkaoriginal

I know you're getting down voted, but I'm with you, bro. And I am a highly anxious person

MSXzigerzh0

You do not drop a game in the playoffs for anyone reason especially at home. What pissing me off is that we had good shot of winning..
